"Shorthanded"

Against Cabe's advice, Team Scorpion heads to Las Vegas for a simple casino job, but a robbery leads to Walter's arrest and the rest of the team is left to clear his name.

I liked it.  It was an original twist on the "casino job" story that's been done to death, and although the plot had its share of "huh?" moments (like needing to break into a guest room to use the Internet, instead of having someone just register for a room in disguise, and the betting/raising money sequence seemed cheesy--have they not heard of bail bondsmen?), overall I liked the mix of action, comedy, and fun.  The judge's reaction to Walter in the courtroom made me laugh.

I liked it, too. Pretty cheesy in parts, but at least Paige had something to do--she was the "new Walter"--taking charge to keep the geniuses focused on working as a team. Seems they tend to panic and not know what to do or which way to turn unless someone takes charge and gives them direction. And Sylvester having to drive the car was funny. Loved that Walter got to see the casino dealer with the smallish hands as a real person and able to help him in the end--I was miffed that he so nonchantly had the guy fired (because he couldn't deal the cards fast enough) without considering the impact this had on the guy (worried about how he was going to support his family now that lost his job). Loved Cabe swooping in at the end to save the team and finding out he arrived because of a "coded message" Toby gave Walter. And I'm liking Happy more--great reflexes in saving Paige from the robber's bullets and shrugging it off as "physics...not heroics". I think the team is starting to gel more, so I'm going along for the ride.

Total BS on Casino Operations. All dealers are table tested before hiring. The casino hired him knowing he was slow. He should never have been assigned to High Limit / VIP areas. Gift wrapped Wrongful Dismissal suit. Just reassign him to the $5 tables and fire the Pit Boss instead.

Yeah logically they would have just moved him to a different area instead of firing him, but I liked the episode. It was fun and entertaining. They should do "Vegas" more often.

Watching Sylvester have to drive the car was hilarious.

I can't believe how quickly this show became a favourite for me.  It's often cheesy and silly, but as long as they have the humour to balance out the cheese and the drama, I'll keep watching. Walter and the judge, Sylvester driving and Happy being so dismissive of praise was a lot of fun. I like the set up that the geniuses plus Paige are like Scoobies and Cabe is the responsible adult in their lives and hopefully Paige will continue to get a meaningful role in the group.

I don't have a high IQ like Walter but I knew it was the daughter as soon as we found out they were framed.  I also couldn't understand why they couldn't let small hands do something different like craps our roulette where it wouldn't matter how big his hands were.

I knew right away that Cabe was going to save them out in the desert but I thought maybe he was having them followed.

I am really liking this show and I liked Paige for once this week too.

Maybe you have higher emotional intelligence, or maybe it was the acting choices + a small set of villians/a motive.

Total BS on Casino Operations.

Among the other points, the first thing they would have tried when a table was losing money was move the dealer (or check; most tables have an hourly total check, and it'd be easy to verify by dealer what's happening.)

I noticed CBS has toned down the "based on actual events", though Walter O'Brien is not (to be fair, this was before this episode aired):

Well, that certainly was a parade of famailer guest actors.  Corbin Bernsen as the casino owner, Alicia Lagano has his daughter (and, I totally had her pegged by the first scene.  She just gave off a suspicious vibe.), Chis Mulkey as Ronny, and Jose Zuniga as the detective.  That was fun, even if Mulkey and Lagano were the only ones that really got any material to work with.  I think Corbin was cast just to be a fake-out.

Probably my favorite episode yet, because I feel like this show knows what it is, and isn't hiding it.  They know they are unrealistic, cheesy, and silly, and that's fine.  So far, I'm finding it well-done cheese.  How can I not love a show, where one of the big solutions is to zip-line from one casino building to the next, and it's so easy, that even both an untrained gambling addict and waitress can do it?  And, I'm liking the interactions more and more.  I've been having the most problems with Toby and Paige so far, so I think this episode did a good job, with having Toby and Walt have some issues and deal with it, and having more Happy/Paige.  Really, Paige's clear girl-crush on Happy is making her way more likable.  And, with Walt in jail, Paige finally was useful on some level, by keeping the three from snapping at each other all the time.

Cabe didn't do much in this episode, but he was still awesome saving the day at the end.  Robert Patrick is the best.

"There is no luck, there's only physics and science."  Awwww.....they are so young and adorable.

I will be glad when Walter quits telling everyone he's a genius though.  And wow - geniuses can talk in near unbreakable code about the planetary alignments at a particular lattitude and longitude.  That was fun,  it was nice to see Toby get to be smart, too.

Some cute moments during OTT ridiculousness.  :)

Glad to see it wasn't just me that was "Why fire Small Hands?"  A bit drastic and that Walter saw no other option for him in the casino showed that he is no so good at giving advice outside the purview of his/ the team's job. There was no reaction other than 'sure, fire him, whatev."

Then to dismiss Paige, again, some more? I get why she didn't respond- the walls of that office are more receptive. Yet, what happened to trying to "not box [me] out"? So the episode just proved that Walter is not to be trusted? I hope there is a time where "the kids" have to choose between Walter and Paige and they choose Paige because she is respectful.

From the smugass base of Walter, I groaned and smiled at the predictable problems he brought onto himself. The judge and everything in jail was great! "Your...intellect gives me reason to label you a flight risk."  The officer writing Walter's case/charges just totally not impressed with anything O'Brien. "I'll let the concierge know..."

Toby, Happy, and Sylvester just are fun. they have quirks, they aren't quirks. There is a difference and it is apparent to me, anyway. From Toby and Sylvester trying to raise money to "The mean lady made me move the car!" (And Walter's "Sylvester?") to Toby in the elevator with the showgirls. Happy was MVP of the ep for me. She was problem-solving, relatively grounded, and gutsy. I think the team's main "Find the Real Criminals" problem was thinking that, in Vegas, Toby could not be in trouble while in the casino. The team already hypothesized that there was an inside person!

While I was glad that Toby and Walter had time to start patching things up after that scene in the police station, I will save my 'aww's for when Walter starts to actually act on this knowledge. Like when he starts not dismissing Paige's ideas.

I'm sorry, after too many seasons of CSI, I would not want to walk through the desert outside of Las Vegas. Too many possibly bad things could happen, not counting wildlife and freak weather.

I liked Gallo coming in at the end. Papa Wolf was not going to let his team get hurt. Robert Patrick does make things a bit awesomer. (I know it's not a real word, but it fits.)

Despite my Walter nits, I am enjoying the whole cast! They look nice and have a good vibe amongst them. I hope they get a full season!

Most people would call whether Schrodinger's Cat makes it out of the box alive a matter of luck. I'm sure there's some impressive technical terminology that means the same thing, but why go there unless you're trying to feel superior?

Schrodinger's Cat...

About the cat...it's dead.  From the get go;  it's imaginary.  About Happy, they know they are social misfits so I don't think anyone's trying to feel superior, I think that's really what she believes - for now.  Life has a way of running you over and smacking you down until you realize its' randomness, and oftentimes, unfairness.  And I don't think any of these kids are anywhere close to that yet.

Paige may be the closest and thus, the reason for her inclusion on the team.

This is coming off my DVR.  It's like morons writing lines for genius characters.  Is Scooter Braun a writer or what?  Just too ludicrous.  I feel like they think the audience are all idiots.

The "Walter gives the dealer he got wrongfully dismissed a secret business tip for instant success as a baker" stuff was the last straw.  And I can't take Happy Poundstone's voice anymore.

Well, Happy's mentioned being dropped off by her dad when she was two. It was in a previous episode, but it was spoken about by her. I would say Happy, at least, understands about randomness and unfairness.  Relying on anything but yourself is dumb in her book, no doubt, so I can see why she subscribes to "physics and science."

Sylvester's reply of "My dad" to Toby's "Who broke you?" made my room get a little dusty.  It was how Ari Stidham said the line, for me.

True and probably a better theory that fits the show.  :)

To me though, she still believes the line's gonna hold, the clips not going to break....she believes in something.  Whereas at my age, I pretty much expect things to go wrong.  LOL  I guess that's what I mean when I say they seem so young to me - and still optimistic in a way - which is nice.  Like they believe the government really can come in and swoop them up and make them a "family."  Ahhh....youth.

In general though the show itself is presented that way, pretty upbeat.  Like we don't see Paige in break down mode over not being able to connect with her child, etc. so there is that.

At some point they will see the wisdom of Marcus Cole:

"Babylon 5: A Late Delivery from Avalon (#3.13)" (1996)

Marcus Cole: I used to think it was awful that life was so unfair. Then I thought, 'wouldn't it be much worse if life *were* fair, and all the terrible things that happen to us come because we actually deserve them?' So now I take great comfort in the general hostility and unfairness of the universe.

Wow, this show gets good ratings?!?!?  It's lucky to be on CBS.

The firing, ziplining across buildings, Happy figuring trajectory of the bullets were all nonsense.

The characters still seem to be nerd clichés and the lead is just obnoxious.

Katherine McPhee is still adorable to look at, but serves no other purpose.

I might give it another ep, but who is watching this?
