S07.E12: April Fools

Recommended Posts

Anyone else catch the retcon time skip? After 3 TV seasons on his Boot year and getting a "golden ticket" to take Celine through 2 TV seasons for her Boot year suddenly Officer Nolan declared himself a 5 year veteran when talking to LT. Grey about gaining a new rookie who should be in short sleeves soonest since had been with the previous division "for a year"

With some episode remaining I wonder if they will put P3 stripes on Officer Chin since they have already been talking about her taking the Sergeants test. And then a legendary Sergeant McAdams was the FTO for Craig, I guess like SGT Bradford is for Texas.

  • Livy posted "The Purge" alerts across all social-media platforms before changing the passwords, and we can't take them down until IT hacks into the account.

Sheesh.
People are dying and it looks like a recreation of the Rodney King Riots.
When I used to work nights at a college, I could call whichever IT person was on-call at their home to remotely reboot the server if the printers were offline.
Doesn't LAPD have 24/7 tech support?
IDK.
Maybe they had resolved it in an hour off screen?

Agree with the stupidity of this episode.

We get another questionable rookie?  Not the guy's fault that his legendary TO didn't just wash the guy out but really how many bad rookie's does one squad need?

I could care less about Chenford but TPTB seems to think they're golden for some reason.  Meh.

Surprised we didn't see Super Bailey.

Wesley is lucky he decided to call Angela and Nyla for help with his case.

And Miss Social Media?  Glad she was arrested but how dumb are people supposed to be to believe some social media posting and then go out and act on it?  Isn't part of that plot based on some bad movie in the first place?  And yes, what big government agency doesn't have IT and IT that can work remotely?  Also, who gives anyone with public affairs access carte blanche to post anything without going through a chain of command first?  I mean who has what access can be controlled by someone higher on the food chain.  The writers would do better to come up with better inspiration and stories/characters that make sense.

  • [LIVY THE SOCIAL MEDIA "INTERN"] Wait, what are you... what are you doing?
  • [TIM] Arresting you.
  • [LIVY] But I was held hostage. Doesn't that count for something?
  • [TIM] No, you were at the clerk's office filing a wrongful-termination lawsuit against the LAPD after instigating mass violence on the job. You're not the victim here. You caused all this.

How does Tim know she was filing a wrongful-termination lawsuit?
At night?
In the middle of a seemingly city-wide riot in LA???
And why is that relevant to him arresting her?
Where were the script editors?

I enjoy the references to her when she's not on screen:

  • [CLUELESS ROOKIE] I won't let you down.
  • [NOLAN] It's not me I'd be worried about. My wife is a ninja warrior assassin. If she ends up a widow because of you, there won't be enough left of you to fit into a bucket.

It played on screen like folks decided on April Fool's Day that The Purge was real. They went out like the movie characters complete with the mask on some of the rioters. We did see from Rodney King riots that  if folks decided they were going to go there's not much the 300 cops on patrol in the city can do to stop it. In this case nobody was angry at the system, they just had some wanting to "play" in a way a rapist or serial killer plays.

Part of me is saying that if it was the Law & Order universe many/all would have gotten amnesty from a New York Supreme Court trial judge

So much stupidity... the writers, the characters, the show...
Geez...

I totally agree. And if it had been set in any other state but California, I would say it was completely unbelievable.

Particularly if the cops were subject to the "high capacity magazine" ban. Otherwise Nolan/DumbAss could have dealt with that little party without even reloading.

I thought the Legend was just went retired on active duty and was out Smittying Smitty with his last Boot. With the retconning the Boot year timeline also the half year Chief's interview went away where Officer Craig should have been  found out about.

It is fair to recycle Craig, he is drawing pay after all. I'm just surprised he is being sent to a third division and is not staying with Nolan at Mid-Wilshire.

This was the big problem for me. It’s almost as if the writers think that Grumpy!Bradford is the solution to every problem.

Nolan’s new rookie doesn’t enrage me as much as Fake Cancer Guy (oh, I’ll learn their little names when I’m sure they’re worthy of it!) but this is clearly a chance for Nolan to be the Rookie Whisperer. I begin to have severe doubts about the LAPD candidate screening process — or, to include Livvie, its recruitment standards in general.

At least there was no Indestructible Redhead.

I dunno, I actually thought it was a fairly decent episode. Not as much camp as usual, and I appreciated that. Was it believable? Of course not, but I didn’t think it was completely awful either. That stupid Public Affairs girl absolutely deserves to be charged as an accessory before the fact on every single crime committed that night.

I did get a kick out of Grey faking a heart attack to get back at Chenford. And it’s always fun watching Angela and Nyla in action. I’ll just sit here at my table for one…🤷‍♀️

Do Angelenos actually have Purge masks in their closets just waiting for the call? Another silly episode, and I was very confused with the C plot about the murder trial. I wonder if the bad lawyer guy they arrested at the end will be part of a larger plotline in the future.

If I were Bradford, I woulda smacked Social Media Girl upside her head the first time I hollered at her. Insufferable!
