During an impromptu get-together with Joanne's family, Noah is determined to make a good impression — so determined that it's a major turnoff.

Premiere Date: September 26, 2024     Netflix

I was upset with Joanne and her sister as they sat by the pool, being so shallow about dumb reasons they dumped men.  (The ick.). And leaving Noah all alone with their family!

Interesting background on Joanne’s family dynamic, though.

I thought it was hilarious how freaked out he was to meet the parents. The jacket in the car whoch he woreover his very casual outfit made me laugh. But I also understand. I never got over my awkwardness around my ex's family-- I am not a shy/quiet person, but I could literally not speak over a whisper whenever her father was around. One day he said to me, after we were together for years, that he can never tell what I am thinking, and all I could do was smile weakly.

I agree that it was terrible to leave him alone with them, and not to help him by talking him up, running interference, and overall backing him up and helping him be at ease, though. That part was not funny and I'm not sure why he didn't call her on it later.

Ohh. I knew they were going to go there with the siblings.  Her sister is liking his brother.

I really don't want them to go there with it, in the long run. I hope they surprise us. I like how This Is Us bonded Beth, Toby, and Miguel together, as non-Pearsons. Hopefully, the Loser Sibling Club will just stay a club. (Maybe Sasha can find Morgan a nice guy.)

I do not think it was rude - not on purpose. Noah might have felt uncomfortable but he has social grace and was able to handle the situation after the initial awkwardness. The sisters (and Mom) were the ones who were the ones who were really struggling with the situation. That's why they all fled from the living room. At first I did not get what was going on because of the whole Ick! thing, but ultimately that was a red herring. What truly upset all three of them was seeing their former husband/father being so comfortable and loving with his new partner and giving him the affection and love they always craved. Noah picked up on that,  hence his talk with Mom in the kitchen.

The whole scene was a great insight into their family dynamics and a giant clue explaining Joanne's problems to commit and her (too) close relationship with Morgan.

Ok, this may be nitpicking, but shouldn’t a show featuring a Jewish rabbi know how to pronounce Hebrew words?  Noah pretends to bless the snacks to make them kosher and says “Hava Nagila”, but pronounces it “HAH-va NIG-you-la” instead of “HAH-va nah-GEEL-ah.  And in the previous episode, the brother pronounces the camp name as “HAH-va-rim” instead of “Hah-vah-REEM”.

Also, no one as worldly as Joanne would not know the meaning of “shalom” or “Shabat.”

Been watching this with the wife, and this is what I was hoping someone else would point out. There's zero chance a woman this age (which I think is at least 35) who grew up in LA or lived there for some significant portion of her life would never have encountered these words.

I thought he was purposely doing it with the snacks, just joking around.  No idea on the second occurrence.

I loved the awkwardness of this whole episode, and Noah remaining calm as the awkward was ramped up.

I totally get the "ick" factor.  I remember explaining this to someone over 20 years ago, how there were little things someone did that at a certain point a) faded to white noise in the background, or b) amplified so much you'd want to drive an icepick through their skull in their sleep.

Ugh!  The siblings!  No!!!  I have to admit, I didn't catch what was on the screen, just that it was from Sasha (I saw something about loser sibling), but Morgan's expressions.  Just, no.  I really like Esther and Sasha, and their whole dynamic.  I don't think Sasha will go there.  I'm hoping for just a really embarrassing moment where Morgan learns that Sasha is just being nice and isn't interested in that way.

This was the best episode yet. Until now I have found the characters too cartoonish but they were human in this one and you could really see, where some of their insecurities lie and come from
(specifically Joanne but also Noah's)
