This seems like it would be a big challenge for Will. And Triston. Curious to see what Jack will do with it. I think he's the main contestant left where I'm like, "Oh, I wonder what he'll do next?" Now that Kayko is gone.

I could imagine countrified versions of some of Adele's ballads, so I don't think it will be too bad (although I agree that they can be hard to sing).

Since you mentioned Jack, who I also like and find interesting, I could see him doing a killer version of Easy on Me, maybe with just an acoustic guitar.

As far as “songs that make you want to dance.”

-Couldn’t understand half of what Julia said. But we can’t vote her off because you know….sad story.
-Tristan can’t keep breathe while he sings and dances like he needs medical help. But hey, sad story. Also, he thinks he’s really good at everything when he’s actually good at….telling a sad story.

-McKennas version of Katy’s song was weak. Her cosplay was weird. But hell, she’s a grown woman who is void of all coping mechanisms, so….sad story.

Emmy: “I was hoping you’d say I should get up and move around! Because I’m not gonna do that.”

We’re free falling toward a final two of Julia and Tristan because…..reasons?

last season, I was on this forum and I said Iam would be a failure as a winner. I was right. If either of those two who they’re forcing on us wins, it’ll be a repeat.

I didn't mind Julia's cover of "Roam", her vocals sounded almost similar to the original at times, which was nice. Though when they said B-52s, I naturally thought "Love Shack", 'cause that's a pretty obvious dance pick (I certainly always want to get up and dance when I hear it :p).

That was a really good cover of "Rolling in the Deep" by Will. That song really works in that style/musical genre.

Yeah, that was kind of weird. It would've been nice to see more of the "songs that make you dance" picks be...danceable?

I like Julia but that dress was atrocious on her.  Her her strong voice is better for Broadwaythan pop music, and she will need acting and dancing lessons. But she cd somehow go the way of Jennifer Hudson with a great role. IDK.

Love Ciera....I think she's the most beautiful woman ever.

Did Emmi forget words... several times? Please vote her off and put her out of her misery.

I don't think I care who wins.... odds are they won't go anywhere without a niche: country, .pop, country,  gospel, country, Hawaiian,  acting chops, and an amazing PR/agent luck, and miracles. What/Who did I miss?

I think Abi wd do fine with torch songs, like in piano bar settings. She kinda gives off a   Diana Krall vibe...smoky like Lionel said.

Oops. I meant MacKenna.

Abi is more  like Sara Bareilles in looks and voice.

Does she write any songs? I don't remember.  She wd do well to start writing songs to create her own niche.

But I get the feeling that she  and her family is religious, so she may look to the gospel circuit fur a working career. Either way,  penning her own music is a bonus.

I read somewhere that a Loretta Lynn fan site is power voting for Emmy (an organized project as opposed to just random LL fans voting).  Does anyone know if there's any truth to this?  It's got to be an organized effort--I don't see how random LL fan votes here and there could make such a difference.

Don't know about that, but Loretta Lynn's Instagram is strongly promoting her. That's all they've posted about since this Idol season started.

Thanks.  I just visited there and saw there are 312,000 followers and someone posted that Emmy's mother is running the site.  If that's true, it figures why it's become an Emmy fan page.  The comments are interesting.

It's not a big deal, but I was surprised they let Will say "shit" during "Rolling in the Deep."  Several others have sung it over the years, but they always had to sing something else during that part (although I have the studio version by Haley Reinhart and she was allowed to say it then, just not on the show).

Ryan said something about how they were opening the songbook of Adele for the first time.  I guess that just meant it was the first time it was the theme, as a lot of people have performed Adele songs on the show.

All of these contestants (w/ the exceptions of Jack, & Triston) are terrified of up-tempo, rhythmically challenging songs so I knew the first go-round wasn't going to be the greatest. I liked Will's "Give Me 3 Steps" & Jack doing Little Richard. Abi kind of went back to the Brng Me to Life vibe, & Triston pretty much did want I thought he'd do. Emmy, Mackenzie & Julia all struggled mightily.

At least Mackenzie went out on a good note. That Adele cover of a cover was as strong as she's sounded since her mystery illness.

Emmy continues to look more confident & assured on stage. I just wish the vocals lived up to the moment. This was better than Walk the Moon but still wasn't a total hit. I feel like next week has to be the point where her race comes to end..

I'm surprised Julia didn't do Skyfall..

Jack & Will picked smart Adele songs for their voices/styles. Jack veered into Buble-land for the first time in a while. Triston also picked what I thought might have been a strong song, but his vocals were lacking a lot..

Abi's the vocal unicorn. However she doesn't have the country mulitiplier & easy likability that Will has or the sob story/underdog tale that Triston has. Now what she might have is a final three of herself, Will & Triston that would involve Will & Triston splitting a lot of votes & opening it up for her to take the title. Jack's the unknown quantity. If you believe that the order Ryan rattled off tonight wasn't actually random, then he's sitting in 2nd to Abi. He's also musically on another planet to everyone else whose left. And unlike Kayko, he isn't actively attempting to sabotage his own chances at trying to win this whole thing.

She is stunning. I was taken aback lol.

I will vote for whomever makes the F3 with Will and Tristan in an effort to keep one of them from winning because my goodness there is nothing special about either of them at all. I think it's pretty obvious one of them will win though, unfortunately.

That would have been an awesome choice. I think she is the best vocalist this season, but she's been struggling to show "who she is as an artist," as they used to say. Most of the genres don't seem to work for her. Actually, I've had trouble envisioning any of them as artists after the show, except for the country singers.

That's one of Idol's fatal flaws (IMO anyway). At least w/ Will & Triston (and Mia even) you get the occasional Luke Combs or Lainey Wilson, or Kelsea Ballerini song. Actual current country artists on the radio. So you have at least some sort of idea where they might fit in (or if they would fit in) in the current landscape of that genre.

You just don't seem to get that (or at least as much of that) from the pop or r&b artists. I remember back last week or the week before on judge's pick night and someone had a Tate McRae song (not even the current current one, but You Broke Me First which is still like less than 9 months old and gets played on current pop stations)..

That surprised me too, especially because they were in a close up on him at the time. That definitely wouldn't have been allowed back in the day.

I thought Will did well with both genres and his Adele song worked very well in his style, very good choice. His inability to even do the 2 steps he'd agreed on made me laugh, he leaned on the crutch of high fiving the audience to distract from his lack of movement. But I'm fine with that, I don't think it's necessary to make a whole new persona just for one song.

As for dancing, I really wish Tristan would stop. He has such an unfortunate build, short and chubby with those weirdly baggy jeans and his style of dancing really accentuates all of that.

Usually I think his vocals are fine, but that Adele song really, really showed up the weaknesses. I don't know if it was the wrong key or just a poor choice, but he did not sound good at all.

Jack is doing his usual thing, I don't have strong feelings about it. He's good and he seems extremely confident or comfortable with himself, but I can't think of any performances that really stood out to me or that I'd look up to revisit.

Emmy seems so sweet and so genuinely surprised (as are the rest of us) each time she advances, but at this point, it's definitely seeming like some kind of power voting bloc must be behind it, I find it hard to believe she's connecting with this audience so much to survive all these eliminations on her own.

The Country juggernaut will be very difficult to take down in the 3 person finale.  They will likely vote for Will AND Tristan until the Final 2. With Jack, we have seen that type of winner so many times before.

There's a pattern, and not a good one.  Except for Abi, everyone in the Top 5 are Country singers or have performed a Country song.  The pure Pop, Rock. R&B, Gospel singers are all gone.

I wonder how Emmi will feel knowing her mom phone-engineered her (maybe)  win.

Plus seeing as how she is uncomfortable and just not ready for prime time or even wanting the big spotlight or limelight in this giant venue is kind of doing her a big.   disservice in the long run...serious panic or anxiety attacks waiting in the wings for her.

She seems to be more an introverted song writer vs. Front stage soloist. And her voice is not that strong or versatile.

It could be a case of a stage mother wanting this more than the child wanting it.  Maybe Emmy would be perfectly happy being a behind-the-scenes songwriter.  She certainly gets a case of nerves each time she's on stage.  In the early days of AI, I remember more than one Idol saying to those who came after them, "If you think Idol is tough, wait until you get in the music business."  Of course, Emmy has probably gotten a lot of advice from Loretta Lynn, and the music business has changed to the point that artists can now put out their own music instead of relying on a record company, but still, Emmy is entering into a business that's not known for consistency, security, or peace of mind.  I hope she's doing this (performing) because she wants it and not for any other reason.
