DietCokeJunkie April 16 Share April 16 (edited) I’m disappointed in the results of the Top 14, so I’m coming here to post. Maybe the title of this thread can be changed to the 2-night 24 to 20 to 14 event? I will really miss Kennedy and Odell in this group going forward. I think Jayna and Nya are very similar and only 1 should have gone through. I would have preferred McKenzie Sol over Jordan. Last, I’m tired of Emmy Russell (I think her legacy as Loretta Lynn’s granddaughter is keeping her around) but I guess she’s getting the votes, so oh well. Edited April 16 by DietCokeJunkie Another thought :) 7 Link to comment
Diana Berry April 16 Share April 16 (edited) Agree jayna and nya very similar. Wish one would have gone with Kennedy. I also feel Abi and McKenna very similar maybe just their looks. I loved all the worship leaders but like they mentioned they may have cancelled each other out. I felt they were really pushing the man with 5 kids so surprised they didn’t pick him. Jordan doesn’t really do much for me not a lot of stage presence. Country singer with beard will do fine already has a hit single .Still feel Mia will be a dark horse. Gemma Violet April 16 Share April 16 Didn't Odell get a platinum ticket from the judges? And then they didn't save him in the end. So very confusing. 4 Link to comment
DietCokeJunkie April 16 Share April 16 Advancing artists tonight on American Idol 2024 Top 14 Abi Carter Emmy Russell Jack Blocker Jayna Elise Jordan Anthony Julia Gagnon Kaibrienne Kayko Mckenna Faith Brienholt Mia Matthews Nya Roman Collins Triston Harper Will Moseley so what’s next week cut? Are they going down to 12? 10? I wish they’d spend less time on auditions and more time with the top 12. 4 1 Link to comment

Yeah, I didn't realize just HOW many of those kinds of singers there were until we got, like, a bunch of them in a row singing all these religious songs. Lots of really slow, sad song picks, too, in general. I like slow, sad songs, but it would be nice to have a little more variety, a lot of the songs were all kinda blending together after a while and sounded kinda...samey. Mind, the fact they're basically rushing through these eliminations doesn't help matters in that department, either. 3 1 Link to comment
Gemma Violet April 16 Share April 16 I agree. Not a fan of the self-penned sad songs, i.e., "Skinny." Don't care for gospel music either, although the singers were talented. I'd like to see more up-tempo happy music. Maybe we'll see that in the upcoming theme weeks. 7 Link to comment
KWalkerInc April 16 Share April 16 It's interesting that 9 of the top 14 came from the first group from the two nights in Hawaii (only one of those singers was cut in the latest episode). They probably intended to keep things fairly even when they set up those groups, but I guess it didn't work out that way! I also hope there will be more upbeat songs soon. I know many of the contestants are going through a lot, but so many of them ended up in tears in these episodes. It was a little hard to watch. Also, Ryan kept tell Kaibrienne that she could have fun with her performance (I guess meaning she wasn't singing for votes or the judges' save), but then she sings "Zombie." And he again congratulates her on being able to have "fun" with the song. Did he listen to any of the lyrics? 4 Link to comment

It's meant to be an angry song, not a "Let me show off my vocal prowess" song. 1 Link to comment
JayDub1987 April 16 Share April 16 Glad we're just discussing both shows here. I'll just share my thoughts on the Top 14. Abi Carter-Think she's largely forgettable. Emmy Russell-I'm a fan. Blame it on my love and admiration for Loretta Lynn if you want. Jack Blocker-I really like him. Jayna Elise-I keep forgetting she's on the show. Jordan Anthony-See my notes on Jayna. Julia Gagnon-See my notes on Jordan. Kaibrienne-Really like her vocals, but her song choices continue to confuse me. Kayko-This might be the winner of the whole thing. Guy has obviously spent years honing his songwriting/vocals/performance skills. I'm a fan. Mckenna Faith Brienholt-She's alright...that's about all I can say. Mia Matthews-Big fan of this one. Clean, pure vocals and doesn't get sucked into the vocal gymnastics of some of the others. Nya-She's good, but not quite as good as she thinks she is. Roman Collins-Love the guy's vocals, and his "Man's World" rendition was really, REALLY good. Thinking he didn't get enough votes based on all the worship music that got done. Triston Harper-See my notes on Julia, but amplify the feeling by 100. Will Moseley-I'm a country music fan, so call me biased, but I love this guy. I hope he doesn't win, but hope he makes the top 2-3. 1 Link to comment
Gemma Violet April 16 Share April 16 (edited) Quote Emmy Russell-I'm a fan. Blame it on my love and admiration for Loretta Lynn if you want. I like Emmy, too. Quote Julia Gagnon-See my notes on Jordan. I really like Julia. I could see her as a big Broadway star someday. She's got the chops. Quote Kayko-This might be the winner of the whole thing. Guy has obviously spent years honing his songwriting/vocals/performance skills. I'm a fan. Same here. This guy's got charisma out the wazoo. Quote Mia Matthews-Big fan of this one. Clean, pure vocals and doesn't get sucked into the vocal gymnastics of some of the others. Ditto. Quote Nya-She's good, but not quite as good as she thinks she is. I disagree. I get Jennifer Hudson vibes. Before last night, I thought she'd get to top 5, but since she didn't make the top 10, she'll probably get voted off next week. Quote Triston Harper-See my notes on Julia, but amplify the feeling by 100. Not a country fan, but he's cute as a button, and his Scotty McCreery voice will get him to the top 2 or 3. Quote Will Moseley-I'm a country music fan, so call me biased, but I love this guy. Not a country music fan, so this is like nails on a chalkboard for me, but he'll probably get to top 5 or top 3 since he's pure country and what the home audience likes. sempervivum April 16 Author Share April 16 Top 20 to 14: I'll predict now that barring any disasters, it'll be Triston/Mia/Will (or Abi) with Triston winning. I guess we're steering clear of the real awkward situation here, huh? Still, seemed very tone deaf of TPTB to end up with Triston vs. Roman, as if anybody (including Triston and Roman) thought Triston would be leaving. The wildcards seemed transparently designed to even things up, although it also means that almost certainly, 1 or more of those picks will leave next week. Jordan over any of the gospel guys and Ajii, including platinum ticket Odell-uh, OK Katy. Coal Miner's Granddaughter in her humble po' folks costume 🙄 At least we got rid of Kennedy and Mackenzie. ('Just an opinion', as Simon used to say) 5 Link to comment
MarylandGirl April 16 Share April 16 I'm sad Ajii didn't make it through--I enjoyed his performances. Especially when Jordan made it. And I'm puzzled by Quintavious instead of Odell--I found Odell to consistently be the stronger singer of the two. Based on past seasons, i figured it's Triston or Will as the winner. I do like Kayko and Jack. And Abi and McKenna. Jayna's great, but I figured she's out next round, sadly. 2 Link to comment
JayDub1987 April 16 Share April 16 Roman was the only save that I liked, so hopefully we can vote these people off again pretty quick. We did that last season with Nutsa and the painfully obnoxious Lucy Love. 1 Link to comment

It looked like she just finished painting her house. I guess she was going for an authentic coal miner's daughter look (her grandmother as a little girl, maybe), but heck, Loretta Lynn was known for her elaborate and dressy clothes when she was performing on the stage. She'd no doubt be scratching her head at this. 2 Link to comment
Meowwww April 17 Share April 17 There were a lot of what I call sad-sack songs, too many IMHO. It got hard to listen to. The gospel type singers had amazing voices and charisma (I got goosebumps) but not for Idol. I’m a fan of Mia, Kayko, Triston, Jack, and Will. 1 Link to comment

LuluJoy April 18 Share April 18 There are so many talented folks in this group. I liked all 3 gospel guys but understand that they would end up splitting the votes. I feel like Julia, Jayna and Nya are all belters and will end up competing for votes as well. I love Kaibrianne's tone, but I wish she could control her emotions a little better. Seems fragile. Emmy and Kayko are both lovely, but their voices are simply not as strong as the rest. Kayko gets by with strong songwriting, but when he has to sing some covers as the competition goes on....not sure. My favorites are Jack, Mia and Makenna, but again, there are many deserving folks in the top 14! Pretty good variety of music genres yet at this point. I'm sure when it gets down to the late stages there will be a larger number of country singers per capita because this genre seems to have the most faithful AI audience. I'm not really a country fan, but I think all the country singers left this year are particularly good. 2 Link to comment
PhD-Purgatory15 April 19 Share April 19 Kayko & Jack stand out because they seem to be the only happy individuals having fun with Idol. Everyone is different shades of bleak (or their doing Gospel for the Lord).. Really annoyed that America voted Kaibrienne through. Exhibit #9,342 why we need someone with Simon's perspective (or even KP in her early seasons) on the judge's panel. If you can't make it through a song, either pick a different (less emotional) song or get off of this show. Obviously the WC's were mostly done to bring some "balance" to the Top 14. Still annoyed that Abi did MCR and didn't give any nods to how Black Parade should sound. Triston just depresses me. I mean clearly the kid is scarred for life from being homeless and growing up basically on the streets. He's also a dead-ringer (vocally) for the country singer Tracy Lawrence which is always a little jarring. Emmy still seems terrified, and yet her vocals seem to get stronger the farther she makes it in the competition. I do hope the producers force her & Kayko to do some covers and not use originals every single week. Roman is so OTT it's ridiculous. For me, for you it's harder to watch him than it is Jack & his bizarre facial contortions. Sad for Ajii, but I was worried that the Audioslave song was the absolute wrong choice. Really nobody should be coming within 40 miles of trying a Chris Cornell vocal on this show. Will is probably your winner, although I do think both Mia & Makenna could push him all the way to the final. Julia was definitely better than her previous two songs but I'm still not a major fan.. Good riddance, Jennifer and your horribly unpleasant voice. Stick to writing songs for other people & you'll have a very productive career behind the scenes. 2 1 Link to comment

I feel like Kayko is very manufactured and I haven't been liking him but I do appreciate that he's got fun energy even if, again, it doesn't even come off genuine to me. Jack and his smile are a breath of fresh air. Also, he reminds me of Rafe from Outer Banks look-wise, which is nice lol. My faves were/are Jennifer, Ajii, and Jayna so it's kind of hilarious to me that none of them made Top 10. At least Jayna got saved. She's 100% gone next week though. 2 Link to comment

Kayko seems like he's watched Dear Evan Hansen a few too many times, he's very, very musical theater. But he is having a blast up there and I would much rather see that than watch Emmy be shaky and terrified every week. I finally figured out who Jack Blocker reminds me, but it's kind of an obscure one that I only know because I watch old episodes of Murder She Wrote constantly, lol. https://www.album-online.com/detail/en/MWEyYThmMA/sean-o-bryan-brother-s-keeper-tv-1998-alb1044855 3 Link to comment
