Adeejay January 9 Share January 9 Congratulations to The Bear for winning Best Comedy at the Golden Globes. While I am happy for the show, I can't help but believe it was entered in the wrong category, because it is not funny. Hence not a comedy. I love this show, but if I watch it before going to bed, I have a hard time falling asleep, because I'm too stressed. 4 Link to comment

IvySpice January 17 Share January 17 Me and the rest of the Emmy/Golden Globe audience: IT'S NOT A COMEDY. It's a fantastic show that deserves all kinds of awards. But there's a reason we don't put good comedies up against good dramas: the dramas suck up all the oxygen. This is so unfair to the actual comedies and the actual comedic actors, who are achieving in their own (IMHO, more difficult) art form. 13 2 Link to comment

ProudMary May 7 Share May 7 I thought the media thread would be the best place to put this. I'm watching live coverage of tonight's Met Gala on Vogue's YouTube channel. The theme is "The Garden of Time." Ayo Edebiri, who looks lovely, is being interviewed and after discussing the fashion, which is certainly the focal point of the evening, she's asked for any small piece of information about the upcoming Season 3 of The Bear. Ayo's response? "I think Carmy gets out of the freezer." 🤣 For anyone interested in the fashion side, here she is: 2 3 2 Link to comment

Since we can’t do anything about that, I hope someone will start per-episode threads. I’ll try to do it if I get here first, but some of you seem to have access to better recaps, guest lists, and whatnot. 4 Link to comment
ProudMary May 11 Share May 11 The Bear is a Peabody Award winner! 👏 https://peabodyawards.com/award-profile/the-bear-2023/ The Bear flips the script on the familiar adage “you are what you eat,” viscerally highlighting the food service industry’s all-consuming capacity to eat its laborers alive. Created by Christopher Storer for FX on Hulu, The Bear follows Carmen “Carmy” Berzatto (Jeremy Allen White), a young chef from the upscale world of Michelin-star dining, as he returns to his hometown of Chicago to manage the rundown sandwich shop that his older brother ran into the ground before dying by suicide. As Carmy struggles to navigate his own grief along with his family’s trauma, his dead brother’s unpaid debts, and the disorderly conduct of his burnt-out kitchen crew, he becomes obsessed with the idea of transforming the shop into a fine-dining establishment. In the process, viewers are drawn into the relentlessly chaotic, high-stress world of small restaurant ownership, as Carmy builds a loyal staff who share his vision and, by necessity, his addiction to a high-pressure game of day-to-day survival—in business and in life. For its searing portrayal of culinary ambition on a knife’s edge, we recognize The Bear with a Peabody award. 2 Link to comment

ProudMary July 12 Share July 12 From US Magazine: Ebon Moss-Bachrach Reveals ‘The Bear’ Filmed 18 Episodes — Which Were Split Into Season 3 and 4 “When we went in to start season 3, we weren’t going in to make season 3 and 4,” Moss-Bachrach, 47, who plays Richie, recalled during the Sunday, July 7, episode of the “Talk Easy With Sam Fragoso” podcast. “But it swelled and our episodes got quite big — over an hour.” Moss-Bachrach noted that the extra footage allowed for them to start season 4 production immediately, adding, “Some of these episodes were splitting [and we] are not making it into two seasons and now we are going to be making 15 or 16 episodes instead of 10. But we’re gonna do it all at the same time.” The shake-up proved to be a challenge since The Bear wasn’t filmed in order. “I would come in at the beginning of the day and shoot a scene from late in season 4 and then shoot a scene from early season 4 and then shoot a scene late in season 3,” Moss-Bachrach explained. “Jeremy [Allen White], Ayo [Edebiri] and I are in a constant state of rereading through the seasons and trying to remember where your person is at.” There's more to the story at the link. 1 Link to comment
aghst July 21 Share July 21 It's not about cuisine or restaurants. "Omnivore" on Apple TV + is about ingredients which changed the world. The narrator and on-screen host is Rene Redzepi, who owned and ran Noma, which is one of the place where Carmy supposedly worked. The writer is Matt Goulding, who worked on Parts Unknown. Cary Fukunaga is also involved and the show looks brilliant, food porn but some panoramic drone shots. https://www.rottentomatoes.com/tv/omnivore/s01/reviews?type=top_critics Link to comment

ProudMary September 17 Share September 17 Interesting video. (Length: 26:36) Master chef and restaurateur Paul Liebrandt rates every fine dining scene from "The Bear" for realism. Liebrandt has been a chef for over 25 years and owned the two-Michelin-starred restaurant Corton in New York City. He also previously worked at the New York restaurants Atlas, Gilt, and Papillon. 3 Link to comment
