S39.E01: Teamwork Makes The Perfect Work

1) I’m not very excited by this cast. Almost all of them come from the most boring seasons of this show.

2) The house they’re in is the same house they just filmed season 2 of USA in.

3) I like that there is only one winner at the end.

4) I liked the daily challenge.

5) I liked the public voting, but I hate that everyone else played it safe and got on the bandwagon to vote for Jessica. I liked that Jessico got to pick who she wanted, but too bad it didn't work out for her.

6) I like that there is no immunity or safety. Everyone is eligible for elimination.

7) I feel like Callum has the same storyline for every show he's on, just being a fuckboy. I remember Callum was on Ex on the Beach, the same season that Laurel was on, with those big ass veneers.

I watched this with a loud crowd tonight, and I’ll probably have to go over it again tomorrow.

A few brief thoughts:

1. Is this the season of the neck tattoo?
2. I’m going to miss the Hopper. Public votes suck.
3. One of the players at tonight’s event was Michele. Needless to say, the crowd did not care for Callum.
4. I’m happy Tula won. I don’t even know where Jessica comes from.
5. Are the legends coming soon? Will they arrive at a specific point in the game? Or will Teege just whip them out randomly?

So, basically, Callum is Bear. Do fuckboys grow on trees in the UK?

I did like the hopper, and I hope we see it at some point on the flagship show.

However, this cast seems a little boring to me so I welcome the opportunity to say names and call out people publicly if it’ll help put some life into this cast.

It seems like they’ll arrive at some specific in the game, whenever the Chaos portion of the game kicks in.

There is a bigger guy with brown floppy hair, who is different than the other big guy with brown floppy hair, who I don’t think has spoken one syllable since he came in the house.  I should have paid more attention to the voting to see if I could figure out who he is.

So this is Croatia again?  They must have filmed USA and then filmed this right after as the rainy season hit over there.

It was either fortuitous that it rained and got that pit muddy or they did some good planning in designing and scheduling that Daily.

The group dynamics and crowd psychology are interesting.  They call it the social game but here, you just don’t want to stand out, like Berna was doing, before Jessica dug her own grave and kept digging and digging.

Just made it easier for everyone to vote for her, not stand out from the crowd.

Did TJ call them puzzle pieces in the Arena?  Just regular tiles to remove and expose the glass floor.

Was there more than one hammer or the first one to get it won?

It looks like the same exact house to me. I remember watching an interview with Michele and she was saying that right after she was eliminated on USA, they called her for this season. I’m thinking this was film right after.

Berna...wtf are you doing?  If you're seriously dealing with issues, The Challenge is not the place for you to be.  I was uncomfortable watching her; seems like she's in distress.  If you're not dealing with issues, and this is just your approach to the game, well, goodbye.

I'm cool with the idea of finding a new champion, but sure seems it's gonna be messy getting there.  Hopefully "messy" in an entertaining way.  Seems there are more than a couple wannbe killers there.  Interested in seeing who can back it up, because it sure as hell isn't all of them, or even most of them, capable of it.

Presumably when they bring in the vets or "legends" they will have a chance at the prize money.

So the champion may not be a first-time winner.

Also only one winner?  So the Final won't be some overly physical task, just running and puzzle-solving, like the time Cara Maria won over Zach I think it was.

My understanding is that the Champs aren't entering the game for the final prize pot. They are just competing in the eliminations, but with a twist.

From what I read in a couple of articles, it seems they'll get a chance to "steal" money from the prize pot if they win the elimination. The Challengers will do the daily challenges to add money to prize pots, and the Champs will compete in the elimination to take that money from the prize pot.

Hmm, we've seen that before, having to go against "bad asses" or something like that in an elimination.

IIRC, some challengers got an easier bad ass to go against in some of the eliminations and got a break relative to the ones they were competing against to avoid going home.

I was amused that we got Johnny Bananas Backpack shown within the first three minutes of the show. That clip will never not be funny. 

When he is facing the camera head-on in his confessionals, Cillian looks like Chef Michael Voltaggio and it freaks me out.

I can’t tell if the Olivia/Moriah/Nurys/Michele/Ravyn contingent is aligned with Colleen, who was also on Ride or Dies with them.

Big T considers Jay, but not Michele, an alliance member. Interesting.

I’m happy that Melissa is back!

Why in god’s name were the men struggling to lift Jay, who is one of the smaller guys and a rock climber, of all people?

Ok I looked at the cast list and there is an Ed and a James, and Ed feels familiar, so I think the silent hulking brunette is James.

Ed was on season 37. James was on either The Challenge UK or The Challenge Australia. I remember James did a heights-over-water challenge where he fell in the water in a weird way and busted his whole face. I only remember his busted face so his regular healed face is not that recognizable to me 😂

But they do look pretty similar. They have the same hairstyle and look like they have the same stature.

There were two hammers, one yellow and one blue. They were tied to the same rope, so I guess TPTB were hoping that the contestants would pull the rope at the same time, but Big T was so much faster that she had no trouble pulling the hammer to herself.

I rewatched the episode. Poor Berna. It feels like she was being left out by the others. Did she cuss out someone’s mother during the preview special? Thank goodness for Jessica deciding that she didn’t want to be there.

Good start. If you listen closely, you can hear Coral’s voice during the opening. Thirty-nine seasons. Damn, I feel old.

I’m thinking Asaf wants to make up for lost time. He’s more or less a more fortunate Nam, but not by much. Nice that he and Jay are pals. Here’s hoping Jay doesn’t screw that up.

One of the least entertaining episodes of the Challenge I've ever watched.  During the daily challenge, I checked my email because I couldn't have cared less how it turned out.

The show goes out of its way to advertise "no vets," then spends half the episode doing vet flashbacks and sound bytes, plus vet previews at the commercial breaks.   I guess that's BMP's idea of fan service.   For me, all it does is highlight how lackluster this current group is.
