Thank goodness the sex haze for Davi wore off. Ethan really is a dirtbag and a bad person.

IRL the "bad boy" would not be quite so bad as to casually rip off a teacher's wallet unless he was a total criminal type.
Until the theft, Devi's "bad boy" boyfriend seemed like he was just from the "wrong" socioeconomic strata of society.
Oh. And "Ethan" is *so* not a "bad boy" name.🙄
But I'm glad they didn't have time to drag out that story. It was mercifully short.

Paxton (whose story was dragged out) was more like the real life "bad" boy, except they gave him the heart of gold, so I guess they had to create Ethan to be one of the distractions that caused Devi to almost totally screw up her college career.

I think a lot of what Ethan was doing—spray-painting (the wrong) cars, stealing wallets, general misdemeanor behavior—was him trying to adjust to how people now saw him. He grew six inches (or whatever) over the summer and was suddenly an object of lust, something he hadn't been before. That also probably made a different group of kids interested in him. (I don't remember who he hung out with in previous seasons.) How he's dealing with this is incredibly destructive on a lot of levels, but I think there is a reason behind it. It doesn't mean he isn't a dirtbag and a bad person, though I think there's hope for him to realize that his behavior needs a big 180.

Ethan was there for Devi's erotic enjoyment—NTTAWWT. Remember the conversation she had with Eleanor and Fabiola? I don't think she'll need them to help her flush that turd. I'm glad she was able to break up with him.

I don't really understand why suddenly being considered attractive would make someone want to steal, spray paint cars, and be incredibly rude to teachers. I have to believe he was already inclined in that direction.

I do believe it might explain his kissing and flirting right and left. I don't consider that to be as big of a crime as most people, especially at that age.

But the other stuff, to me, is not really an understandable reaction to sudden popularity.

Yeah I agree with you. Theft and vandalism are CRIMES which would get you expelled from school at the very least. Likely Ethan actually is bad news and it’s good Devi ended it.

No way is Devi a woman’s medium or could Ben wear her fitted button down shirt! 😂

I think Fabiola is my new favorite character. I love the actress' delivery of some lines. I'm very invested in her and her robot best friend.

Fabiola has never been given her due. She’s amazingly gorgeous and smart and a sweet friend. She’s the unsung hero of this series.

I thought that Devi jumping to the front of the line was really obnoxiouos behavior and she didn't deserve a second chance.  I'm surprised the other kids just stood there and didn't say anything, like you would if someone jumped the line in the bank or the grocery store.

I agree. I could see it if Paxton and Trent acted that way and it was the norm for the Hot Pocket but Ethan seemed to be the only one acting like that.

Me, too. I am finding myself wishing she was the main character this season.

Speaking of underrated characters, I miss Manish.

I agree and she ended up being rewarded and getting exactly the kind of special treatment she expected.

Although I doubt Devi was thinking shrewdly enough to consider this:
The other kids would not want to ruin their own chances by having their first impression be of the kid who argued with a line jumper.

As others upthread have mentioned, Manish likely did not get a bigger role in this season because Utkarsh Ambudkar is a lead in Ghosts, but, also, his Wikipedia page shows a lot of other concurrent projects too.

Spoiler

I wonder if Nirmala's relationship with Len was added to give Kamala an alternate plot.

Anyway, I just added to my list for next fall/winter's PrimeTimer Award nominations:

  • [Category] Beyond Honorable Mention: Favorite Character Who Doesn't Get Enough Screentime
    • [Nomination] NHIE, Manish Kulkarni
(Kamala’s bf —  because Utkarsh Ambudkar was starring in Ghosts)

Devi really almost blew that, luckily this is television where pulling stunts like cutting in front of the line is seen as charming or something that can be overlooked instead of something that's going to get you nowhere expect on a lot of peoples shit lists.

I am very glad that Devi realized that her bad boy was really just a bad guy. Perfect hair can only take you so far when you keep committing acts of vandalism and petty theft.

Fabiola is really the MVP of this season, even if she has fallen into the same "cant be honest about anything" hole that everyone from this show falls into.

You can tell the show is wrapping up because they keep writing in ways for the cast to all separate by the end of the season.

Oh Paxton, this is just sad.
