shantown September 18, 2022 Share September 18, 2022 Parts 3 and 4 of the documentary air on Wednesday, September 28, 2022 beginning at 8:00pm eastern on MTV. Part 3, airing at 8pm: Underdogs are the true heroes of The Challenge, achieving against all odds and climbing personal mountains, all while overcoming an extremely competitive environment. Part 4, airing at 9pm: What makes a legend? Wins? Physical dominance? Mental toughness? Cool under pressure? In a game as intense and complex as The Challenge, the only answer is all of the above. shantown September 29, 2022 Author Share September 29, 2022 Ooof, I admit that the segment on Diem had me a little teary. For as much as some of the on-screen personalities annoy me, these are also a group of people who have known each other 10, 15, 20 years and have gone through a lot together - on and off screen. Was not surprised that they didn't have a talking head from CT. I imagine that's still a pretty painful loss to talk about. Was happy to see Sarah Greyson get a segment in the underdogs episode. The original elimination queen! Also nice to have someone from the early era. Every other segment was middle era (Diem, Devyn, Derrick) or recent (Jordan, Nany, Leroy). Derrick is not an underdog to me though. Being small and having been a drunken fool on his earlier seasons doesn't make him an underdog. Is it just because he did so many seasons? The fact that they put Johnny last and not CT was a travesty. The "Banana Backpack" alone puts CT above Johnny for me. Love the talking heads from people who competed or hosted or worked on the show. I don't need to hear from celebrity "superfans." Plenty of people online are fans and can talk about watching the show, but that doesn't add anything of substance to a documentary. Though admittedly, I'd rather hear from them than Nelson. He just bugs me. 1 2 3 Link to comment
AntFTW September 29, 2022 Share September 29, 2022 (edited) Correct me if I'm wrong. They said Jonna the greatest turnaround or transition from mediocre to beast, and that's probably the only thing I disagreed with. I think that honor belongs to Cara Maria. Cara's game SUCCKKEEDD. Cara was bullied so much in her early seasons. Each season she improved until she eventually won, I think, at 7 or 8 seasons into her Challenge run. AntFTW September 29, 2022 Share September 29, 2022 Also, one thing they showed was Laurel's elimination against Ninja Natalie. I remember the rumor was going around at the time that Laurel was offered a redo and Laurel declined. My memory is fuzzy but I think they said Ninja said it in an interview that they offered to do the elimination all over again because they fucked up, and Laurel declined. Link to comment

Others have spoken online about her helpful and caring advice. I think her social game has been incredible, and as genuine as can be. The same way Wes spoke about how they come do the challenges for a variety of reasons, I think there's a lot of ways one can be considered the greatest. (Is it just wins? Solo wins? Based on format you won in? Money won? Eliminations won? Fewest times having to go to elimination? Something else?) Wes owns the smarmy jackass character. He's so good at it. He know you're either going to hate to love him or love to hate him and actively works towards that. I love how much he gives to the Challenge, not only physically but in trying to make it good, entertaining TV for the viewers. 4 Link to comment

Personally, I don't think GOAT status is just from winning, it's whole package that they bring to the show. To me, their GOAT status doesn't come from the fact that they win the game, but it comes from the reasons why we root for them. 10 minutes ago, shantown said: I think it's two different kinds of turnarounds - for Jonna it was starting to play for herself in the All-Stars seasons. 3 of her 5 regular challenge seasons were Rivals (twice) or Exes, and the other two Zach was still there. After Jonna's second All-Star win, I would love to see her compete on the flagship again. Jonna's evolution just on her 3 seasons on All Stars is its own story, and was amazing to watch. Just on the 3 All Stars, you can see her improving each season she came back. Edited September 29, 2022 by AntFTW 1 Link to comment

mojoween September 30, 2022 Share September 30, 2022 Well balls. I had a conflict on Wednesday so had to cancel the recording of episode three, figuring I could just catch it on the app. NOPE. Only eps one and two are still on there. Of course MTV doesn’t rerun it because that would mean they would have to lose two eps of the eleventy seven Ridiculousnesses they air on the reg. Fingers crossed it’s On Demand. Link to comment
millennium October 1, 2022 Share October 1, 2022 Jordan should have been a GOAT, not an underdog. He has killed it from day one. Sarah Rice should have been an underdog, but she got no recognition at all except for being Bananas' plaything. While Cara deserved the GOAT honor, she also deserved to be on set rather than Paulie talking for her (which makes the cynical side of me think that the process begun on War of the Worlds 2 is now complete). Kam a GOAT? Evelyn Smith received not even a mention. I also would have put Ashley, Emily, Paula, Camila, Jenna, Kaycee and others ahead of Kam. How ridiculous. Featuring select Challengers on these two episodes has left me feeling like a lot of fun, familiar faces are missing. It seems very incomplete. The previously unseen standoff between TJ and Laurel was pretty intense. TJ's anger seemed to be a defensive reaction to having screwed up. Ninja's stupid gloating expression in the background was a great reminder of why I can't stand her. Why so damn much Jemmye? And those other two nobodies, the actor and the screenwriter? 1 1 Link to comment

Yes, TJ made a mistake by blowing the horn... but SHE screwed up and was begging for a redo based on that. So she loses and she wants a redo... sure, it was a glitch, but still... trying to get a redo on something she lost. I just can't stand the woman. Then you have Wes, who is also cocky and insane and full of himself. Yet, I love him. He's a true jacka$$ but I love him anyway. Maybe it's a sexist thing in me... A couple days ago I listened to Bananas' podcast where Laurel was the guest. Bananas insists that she's warm, funny, a great friend, loves animals (she just got her degree in veterinary medicine), and he admires her ability to not show any emotion as part of her gameplay. All I can go by is what I see on the screen. Her flat affect, the way she over-enunciates her words (particularly noticeable on the podcast), her obsessive perfectionism, and her apparent lack of empathy lead me to wonder if she may have something like Asperger's. It always cracks me up when peoole deem someone a nobody just because they don't know them. Jake Johnson is a very in demand actor who was one of the leads in the popular New Girl on Fox. He also starred in a bunch of hit movies like the fourth Jurassic Park movie, Tag, into the spider verse, let's be cop and a bunch of other projects. Not a nobody and him and working partner are genuine big fans and made a project about the show. They aren't just random people there like Kim Kardashian. I don't know why people care about super fans speaking anyway. They shouldn't be there in place of people from the cast but they add another important perspective. Entertainment doesn't transcend unless it really hits with the audience. Derrick is very much an underdog. Come on now. People thought they could call him out for years just based on his size. People also didn't take him seriously for years. He had multiple things against his success but became one of the most respected players out there. 8 hours ago, forevertwentynine said: I might be the only one, but this just solidified my Laurel hate. jsm1125 October 2, 2022 Share October 2, 2022 (edited) I also wonder why Evelyn (or even Emily Schromm or Sarah Rice) wasn’t mentioned as one of the best. Having said that, I do understand the Kam inclusion in the GOAT discussion. She has a rare combination of physical, social, political and mental strengths. I mean, she managed to carry Kayleigh, who is a pretty atrocious competitor, nearly towards the end of Final Reckoning. I actually do quite like Wes, but c’mon, Evelyn ran their alliance in Fresh Meat II until they both screwed the pooch. Still quite surprised we didn’t hear anything from Beth or Paula. Beth for what I hope are fairly obvious reasons, and Paula because she and Evelyn were the female faces of that middle challenge era. On a really random note, imagine what Laurel and Michael from BB24 could do as partners in a season. They’re both incredibly good at all challenges and seem like they could be robotic enough as players to gel well. Really, Bananas? You’re still thinking that Sarah making a move for herself and her partner (Jordan) in Exes II was a betrayal? And I’m sorry, but I don’t buy for a second that the option of taking all the money would have even been an option had Bananas not made the final In Rivals III. Lantern7 October 2, 2022 Share October 2, 2022 (edited) Watched the GOAT episode. Had to clear DVR space, and there's a chance I'd save the Underdogs episode (which I haven't seen yet) because of Sarah's involvement. Hey, at least it was nice that MTV remembered to bring in A Sarah. The last bit of Laurel's segment shows that when BMP drops the ball, it can be a huge mess. Yeah, they cut out the crotch-chopping, but then you had TJ trying to shut her down. If Laurel decided there and then to put Teege into another coma, I don't think he would have been able to stop her. Wes' inclusion was expected . . . but aside from his win in All Stars, he has two titles. Conveniently forgotten: the many times his strategies backfired and he was sent packing. Johnny in front of a green screen after Rivals III, broken up about what he did to Sarah . . . I can't. Really, I cannot. Only thing missing was his idiot cousin Vince pouring Visine into Johnny's eyes. Johnny knows that his brand is being a bastard. He had Sarah's actions in BOTE2 in his back pocket, and he used that to take the money . . . something he brings up a lot. I'm really hoping someone flattens him. Right, that was the elimination when Wes had to restrain Georgia with duct tape and Bear had to do the same to Nany. Georgia wriggled and treated Wes to a "sing-songy" which seemed to utterly break his concentration. Bear won (but to be fair, it probably wasn't the first time Bear ever tied a woman to a chair). There's just not much "untold" in these episodes, and a lot of what they are mining is more recent so I haven't even had a chance to forget things yet. I also think they chose a lot of their underdogs and champs based on who was doing interviews. And a lot of the folks doing the talking heads are the same ones showing up season after season, so I'm not getting anything new there either. Still watchable. 1 Link to comment

Lantern7 December 30, 2022 Share December 30, 2022 (edited) Finally watched Sarah Greyson’s segment. Man, they left out a lot . . . like how her team voted her into the Gauntlet after Laterrian knocked her off a log during a mission, how she was second out of the snake-filled pool (yeah, really) from her team and they voted her in, and other stuff. On the bright side, they didn’t bring up the stuff with Theo. I’m thinking that the producers didn’t want to bother explaining him, but I’m grateful because the mere thought of Rachel and/or Veronica taking the high ground makes me a bit sick. She did look good. Next time I see her in-person, may I not be weird around her like I was a few years ago. That also applies to most reality folk I like. I was such a dork getting myself to meet Sophia last year. Edited December 31, 2022 by Lantern7 1 Link to comment
