I LOVE this movie. Can I say that as a person who's not really a Star Trek fan? I have nothing against it, I just never got into the whole world except for occasionally watching TNG back in the day.

I love this movie so much and I've seen it many times.   The sequence on the planet is fantastic.  "Miners, not minors!!" "Did you guys ever WATCH the show??" "See, they're going to help the little hurt one" "Let's get out of here before one of those things kills Guy"  "CAW CAW"

I've seen the "Never Surrender" documentary; it was fun.

One of my all time favorite movies. When I heard that Alan Rickman had died, my first thought was 'there goes the Galaxy Quest sequel 😢

Also not a Star Trek fan but I loved this movie too. I love the ending at Comic Con where the fans think they did it all just for them.

Even those fans were much nicer than the more toxic ones we deal with today.

I love that the superfan (Justin Long) that they were initially so dismissive to actually wound up helping them save the universe.

I think what's great about this movie is that it can be enjoyed by people who are fans of the series and those who aren't. Some of the jokes might be appreciated a bit more by people who are more aware of the Trek universe, but otherwise, it's a movie everyone can enjoy.

I love this movie so much. I seriously think it's pretty much perfect.

I mean, the characters are so good, the plot is fantastic, the actors are all terrific (I am not the biggest Tim Allen fan, either personally or professionally, but he's great here), and the effects are gorgeous.

I still think Colantoni should have been nominated for an Oscar for Mathesar.

I love that Guy is Crewman Number Six but he's also genuinely smart and clever (which is part of his problem -- he's a fan, he KNOWS he's a redshirt!). My single favorite line in the entire thing is "I know! You construct a weapon. Look around, can you form some sort of rudimentary lathe?" because Guy is just SO COMMITTED to THIS as solving Jason's situation! And let's not forget "It's an ALIEN PLANET! Is there AIR? You don't know!"

Alan Rickman was so incredible, and the best part is that he's effortlessly funny (I get indignant on poor Dane's behalf every time I see that dinner scene and Jason is eating STEAK and poor Alexander has alien bloodticks! I totally would've been like "BRING ME SOME STEAK.").

And then he breaks our hearts with poor Quellek! (that scene breaks me every time -- Patrick Breen is SO good there too).

And then there's Shaloub as Kwan!

Fred (slowly and casually, a bit stoned): Hey, Commander. Listen, uh, we found some beryllium on a nearby planet. And uh... we might be able to get there if we reconfigure the solar matrix in parallel for endothermic propulsion. Whaddaya think?
Jason Nesmith: We'll do that!
Fred (adoringly, to his bashful engineering team): That's right again! That's... come on, group hug! (and they all come in for the hug)

Also, how many people here watched the DVD with the Thermian dubbing?

(sheepishly raises hand)

I made it about 5 minutes in. I laughed myself silly then had to turn it off.

As great a comedy as this movie is, and it is great, one of the all time best, that moment is just heartbreaking.

This is one of those rare movies where I can't pick a favorite character. I absolutely adored each and every one of them and each actor played their character with so much heart. This is easily in my top five favorite movies. It is very close to threatening Clue for the #1 spot.

"Guy, you have a last name!"

"Do I? DO I?!?! Mommy!"

Alexander: "Are we there yet?"

Notice the parallel between the young human fans and the Thermians too. In their innocence, Mathesar and his friends believe that Jason and the others really are heroes that can save them, just like Brandon and his friends want to believe that it's real. Brandon getting so excited when Jason tells him that there really is a spaceship (right as he's saying that he knows none of that stuff actually happens) is exactly what a teenaged comic/sci fi geek would do. We need more fans like Brandon.

I so agree. I actually think that's what makes this movie so special -- if it was JUST hilarious, sure, that would be great. But the real poignance and pathos of Quellek's final moment with Alexander, or of Mathesar's courage ("Sarek, what about my people?") and heartbreak (his "But why?" kills me every time) -- those things give the movie so much richness. I really do care about everyone in it so much.

Every freaking thing Sam Rockwell does in this is just perfect. Guy collapsing on Gwen here. Panicking and holding his breath when the doors open! ("Is there air? You don't know!") Or the immortal, "Did any of you guys actually WATCH the show?!"

I love that, and you've expressed it so eloquently! Brandon's reaction of "I KNEW IT!" is, I swear to God, exactly what mine will be one day when Gandalf shows up or I find that entrance to Narnia. All of us who love Sci fi and fantasy secretly know that somehow, it's all real.

My favorite scene (among many) is when Jason and Gwen are trying to get through the chompers.  Gwen's growing hysteria about the chompers and why are they even there, and yelling "this episode was badly written!"

If you look close enough, when Gwen and Jason first see the chompers and realize they have to run the gauntlet of them, she very clearly says 'Fuck that!' but they dubbed it so that it comes out as 'screw' instead. "Whoever wrote this episode should die!"
