S01.E02: Along Came a Spider

Perception over knowledge and social game over clue analysis. Guess Michael wasn’t kumbaya enough for the rest of the house and played the guessing game too hard for the others liking and rubbed everyone the wrong way. Should have known from the episode title that he was going, not Brittany.

And Logan is damn good. He was able to figure out the Spider-Man and euphoria clues and just turned that completely around. If Dominique was the guesser Brittany would have gone home. I also got to say Logan is a hottie and very charming and wonder if he’s figured out others already.

I've lived in Wisconsin for 5 decades so even though I don't follow the Packers (or any sports), I would have pieced together the clues for Favre. However, anyone other quarterback/team/fan nickname and I'd be lost. Which is true with several of these players' relatives. Chuck Norris, yes. Zendaya, no. I wonder what demographic the show is aiming for.

Yeah, I have no idea who Zendaya is!

I first heard of her when she competed on Dancing with the Stars…she was a Disney kid or something.   But now she is Mary Jane in the Spider-Man movies.  She also stars in the series Euphoria.  She is Emmy nominated for that show as an actress and as the youngest person ever nominated in the Producer category.

My daughter was just the right age to watch Shake It Up when it originally ran on the Disney Channel, so I was subjected to many, many episodes during its run.  So, I've known who Zendaya is since then.  When that ended, she (Zendaya) moved on to another Disney show whose name escapes me.  Along with the other things @DEL901 mentioned above, she was also in movie The Greatest Showman.

It’s too bad Pepper is terrible at the game play and always in the B2 and chosen as the guesser, since her relative is among the least likely to ever be guessed.

Who is her relative?   I must have missed the reveal.

There wasn’t a reveal on camera. It’s a spoiler. I’m not clear what the protocol is for revealing information that is otherwise available on the internet, so I won’t say unless it’s considered OK in the thread.

I think that's

Spoiler

what the spoiler option is for. I've seen a wide range of guesses for Pepper's relative, ranging from Dean Martin to Bette Midler to Maya Rudolph (and more!).

She is even an Emmy winner for Euphoria.

Pepper reminds me of Susan Sarandon, and Dominique looks & sounds like Loni Love.

Dom is like a carbon copy of Loni Love. Looks like her, sounds like her, same mannerisms. I would be shocked if she isn't related to Loni Love.

According to the internets, Pepper’s Claim to Fame is…

Spoiler

that she is Dean Martin’s granddaughter via his son Ricci Martin. IMHO, Dean is far too old school for the other contestants to even know about.

Please spoiler tag any info you get from googling. Thanks to those that are doing that!

I appreciate the spoiler bars even if the answer is just a google click away. I have a feeling that everyone's identities will be known by next week at the latest lol, but having even the slightest element of surprise and mystery makes it more fun, at least for me.

Speaking of which, at this point, as far as we know, 4 of the 10 remaining contestant's relatives have been figured out by at least one other person: Amara, Brittany, X, and of course Louise.  With nothing to do all day but stare at that wall, along with other clues being dropped along the way, and sharing of info, I'm sure some of the more clever ones like Logan have figured out many more.

What did LC say in the voting booth? That people think they know who her relative is but they're wrong? Someone was convinced she's Forest Whitaker's relative, was that who LC was referring to? Once that person said it, I couldn't unsee it.

The strategy on this show is interesting. Even the initial introduction of revealing two truths and one lie has to be carefully considered. Some of them kind of bungled that part of it. If the show gets renewed I expect future contestants will be more circumspect.

I'm loving this show so far!

One thing I dont get about the show. Are viewers supposed to also try to figure out the famous relatives? It seems like some are revealed on the show, for no reason, while others are a mystery.  Maybe they just haven't figured out the format yet.

A week or 2 before the show aired, the Jonas bro hosts were on The View. Whoopi said her granddaughter was going to be on the show, and they joked about how she said or implied that Whoopi was an adult film star.  I guess I think the show would be better if the TV audience was kept in the dark about the relationships. (Even though we'd all be googling to try to figure it out.)

I also thought it was odd that two contestants revealed their relatives the first night, and one did this week. I thought it would be everyone or no one.

I'm with you, I prefer the big dramatic reveal at the end. When Brittany, Amara, and especially Louise end up getting called up to the stage by the "guesser" it will be anticlimactic.

I think I would have guessed Whoopi was Amarah's grandmother even if it hadn't been said.  Whoopi has one child, a daughter (Alex) who I've seen a few times on The View for certain holidays or events.  Amarah is the spit and image of her mom Alex.

I think because the entire season is pre-taped, they made the decision to give the audience some extra information so they know more than the celeb contestants, but not everything so there’s still some mystery. If the show was happening in real time, like Big Brother, they probably would have made a different choice.

I wrote down all the clues, if that helps anyone.

1. orange (Orange is the New Black - Laverne Cox - X?)

2. mustache

3. olives (Pepper said she believes the clue is for her because every martini needs olives - Dean Martin?)

4. agave plant (runway queen in the 80s - Elle McPherson, from Australia - Lark?)

5. pickle

6. gym mat (Simone Biles - Louise)

7. astroturf (football - Brett Favre - Brittany)

8. belt buckle (coupled with the "big green tractor", Jason Aldean - Logan?)

9. bowl of chili (reference to Rozonda Thomas, Chilli from TLC - Kai?)

10. pottery clay (Ghost - Whoopi Goldberg - Amara?)

I heard good things about this show and it’s fun.  X is a hoot. I’m almost surprised he is not famous.

I know who Zendaya is too, as I too have daughters who watched Shake it Up and the Spy show she was in.  And yup, Spider-Man.
