All the Buzz: Media for Yellowjackets

I just watched a Yellowjackets sneak peak and now I really want to hurt Shauna and Lottie.

  Reveal spoiler

I'm guessing the animals died because they froze to death and had no shelter to retreat to.  They were going to be food anyway, but it's still sad.  If they had left when Nat wanted to go, the animals could have been freed.

Same.

The numbers are out and Season 3 had a 19% increase in viewership, and a 54% increase in streaming viewers. (That says a lot about what a great move it was to license S1 to Netflix.) The S3 finale was the most-watched episode of the series, and that's always the dream of a network, to have a show continually increase in viewership. It also goes to show that Reddit or Xitter is not necessarily representative of the viewing audience.

This means pretty clearly that the delay in renewal is about whether there should be one or two more seasons, and if one season, whether there should be more episodes. Obviously with this kind of performance Paramount would love to see the show go as long as possible, but it's not that kind of show. The teen part is nearing the end of their time in the wilderness. This has been Paramount's buzziest show and with S3 achieving its best numbers yet, obviously it's going to get to complete its story. But the showrunners have to know before writing S4 if it's going to be the final season or if a S5 would be the last.

That sounds right to me too. There's too much left with the teen timeline to wrap up in a normal length S4, but the adult timeline isn't making it through another two seasons. In the teen timeline there are still a number of deaths to go before the rescue, then there's the rescue itself, coming home, whatever terrible thing the YJs did after they came home, and how they picked up their lives afterwards.

I don't think there was ever any doubt it would get renewed. I did think it was a possibility they'd make season 4 the last though. The writers seemed like they were really accelerating the plot this season.

But with how well it's doing, I fear Showtime will try to milk it for all it's worth and end up going too long.

They could do the Mad Men route and film one long final season and then split it and space it into two seasons to milk it.

The two final MM mini-seasons that were split into 2014 Spring and 2015 Spring really come across as one (better) cohesive-themed season now (re-watched during pandemic) whereas when originally aired I was thrilled to have every episode I could but felt vaguely annoyed and grouchy for the obvious stringing us along gimmick by AMC.
