tessaray August 5, 2021 Share August 5, 2021 Finally some casting news... Faith Hill, Tim McGraw and Sam Elliott to star in the show. https://deadline.com/2021/08/taylor-sheridan-yellowstone-prequel-to-star-tim-mcgraw-faith-hill-sam-elliott-1234809265/ From the article: 1883 follows the Dutton family as they embark on a journey west through the Great Plains toward the last bastion of untamed America. It is a stark retelling of Western expansion, and an intense study of one family fleeing poverty to seek a better future in America’s promised land — Montana. Elliott is set to play Shea Brennan, a tough-as-nails, handsome cowboy with immense sadness in his past. He has the herculean task of guiding a group from Texas to Montana, and he does not suffer fools. McGraw and Hill will portray James and Margaret Dutton, the respective patriarch and matriarch of the Dutton family. Additional cast to be announced. Link to comment

But I am not thrilled about the casting of Tim McGraw and Faith Hill. They aren't actors. Also, they are married in real life. I can already see the slew of articles asking them how their real-life marriage adds layers to their portrayal of a married couple onscreen. I also was hoping more for a "Deadwood" style western with more of a TV western town and the stories around the town (how the Dutton family came to be, how they met, how they acquired the land, how they defended and expanded their lands, etc). But here, the show appears to start with them already married, and deciding to move from Texas to Montana for a better life. Instead of "Deadwood", this looks more like it will be akin to "The Grapes of Wrath". It just sounds so bleak, and I am not sure if I am looking for bleak. 1 Link to comment
tessaray August 5, 2021 Share August 5, 2021 I'm not familiar with the acting ability of the leads, other than Elliott but if there is a large enough ensemble it could be okay. I'm concerned about that bleakness as well. It doesn't need to be Wagon Train or Little House on the Prairie but I'm not up for misery porn. 3 Link to comment

spacefly August 22, 2021 Share August 22, 2021 Sounds like "Lonesome Dove" to me. Without Tommy Lee Jones, Robert Duvall and Danny Glover. Maybe they should have cast Rick Shroder. Link to comment
Angeleyes August 31, 2021 Share August 31, 2021 I posted about this in the anticipation thread, but I’ll post this here too. ShortyMac January 9, 2022 Share January 9, 2022 Casting news - Tom Hanks’ wife, Rita Wilson https://variety.com/2022/tv/news/1883-paramount-plus-rita-wilson-1235147225/ Rita Wilson is set to guest star on “1883” at Paramount Plus, Variety has learned exclusively. Wilson will appear in an upcoming episode of the “Yellowstone” prequel series in the role of Carolyn, a storekeeper at Doan’s Crossing who helps Margaret (Faith Hill) decompress with some whiskey punch. Wilson’s role on the show makes her the second member of her household to appear on the series. Her husband, Tom Hanks, appeared in Episode 2 of the show in the role of U.S. Civil War General George Meade. 2 Link to comment

I'm looking forward to seeing how she does as Carolyn. 1 Link to comment

blackwing January 17, 2022 Share January 17, 2022 I'm not sure how many episodes are in this season or when it is scheduled to end. But the cynic in me thinks that a week before the season finale, they will premiere "6666" in the hopes that people who subscribed to Paramount Plus for "1883" will keep it for "6666". I for one will not fall for their "6666" trick. I already suffered through enough 6666 on Yellowstone proper this past season. 2 Link to comment
mythoughtis January 19, 2022 Share January 19, 2022 (edited) It seems that paramount plus believes in the one episode per week or less of any show. Thereby ensuring you will pay for multiple months and then find another show on it for multiple more months. Makes sense, since they are basically an offshoot of CBS and are used to that method of providing content. Edited January 19, 2022 by mythoughtis 2 Link to comment
The Pretender February 15, 2022 Share February 15, 2022 Woop woop 1883 renewed for a 2nd season & yet another show about the Duttons. Count me in. 3 Link to comment
blackwing February 16, 2022 Share February 16, 2022 I would still hope that the Duttons get to Montana by the end of this season. I don't want another season of them travelling on the road and facing hardship and bandits and weather. How far is Boseman from Yellowstone Dutton Ranch? I hope Season 2 explores this fledgling town and how it grows. As for 1932, presumably this series features Kevin Costner's parents. Prohibition, the Great Depression, etc. I'll watch but I will ask in advance that Sheridan not include an Elsa-type nor a Jimmy-type. 1 Link to comment
circumvent February 27, 2022 Share February 27, 2022 So, Sheridan's shows are Yellowstone, 1883, 1932, and 6666 The money must be good because he is looking a lot like the Dick Wolf of Modern Western. Spin off everything you can, don't care much about the quality of the writing or acting. Have one or two good actors on each show, make sure the cinematography is impeccable (although it gets boring sometimes, the endless panoramic views without anything happening to advance the story), rinse, repeat. 1 Link to comment

Sheridan bought the actual 6666 ranch a year or two back for $347 million, so he's got a big mortgage to pay. Link to comment

Bought a ranch, now needs to sell the cowboy idea to the masses to pay for his splurge. No wonder he seems obsessed with the theme. 3 Link to comment

But why is Sheridan himself saying there won't be a season 2 then? And with that many shows in the air that's a big workload even for a brilliant mind like Sheridan. And on another note hearing that monotonous voice over in that clip made me appreciate Elsa/Isabel May's soothing voice even more 😅 2 Link to comment

The cast only signed on for one season. By adding on to Season 1, TPTB don’t have to deal with contract negotiations, and increasing salaries. 1 1 Link to comment

Is there an official source for the information in this video? It seems to me like all of these various "entertainment websites" around the world with weird internet addresses that just cobble together other sources' information and brands it as news. The fact that this is clearly a robotic computer voice makes me think it's somebody in a foreign country that is just typing words into a computer and putting it together with still shots from the show to make everyone think it is authentic news. If this is indeed true, then I think a Yellowstone Season 5 Part 1 followed by 7 eps of 1883 Season 2 Part 1 followed by Yellowstone Season 5 Part 2 followed by 7 eps of 1883 Season 2 Part 2 would be a great plan. But I would like to see some more concrete source other than some robotic computer voice put together from some guy in Germany or India or China or wherever. I'm pretty sure anybody can make a video and post it on dailymotion. 1 Link to comment
The Pretender March 4, 2022 Share March 4, 2022 There's so many different versions on how this will play out now I really don't know who or what to believe. I usually go mostly by what the showrunner says and Sheridan has said there's no plans for a season 2. Unfortunately imo. I read somewhere else that this new show, 1932, will start with one episode back in the 18?? something and then jump ahead to 1932. Doesn't sound so bad to me as we will at least know how the Duttons settled and if indead James got shot in 1893 and died from that wound. If that one episode also includes a tidbit about how life is going for Josef, Thomas & Noemi I will be even more satisified (well if they are indead living large as I imagine them to). 3 Link to comment
