3,905 steps yesterday.

Wiped out today, 2 nose bleeds yesterday and one so far today. Hope that is it. No sleep last night either.  I'm going to be late with a bill if I can't go out to the PO tomorrow.

Could you get a neighbor to post it for you?

My bills all go to my PO box in town so that requires me to go there to pick them up. Not sure I want a neighbor rummaging through my mail.

On my 2nd nose bleed for today. 2nd one is very light. Hope that will be it for the day...

Are you taking Metformin by chance?

No,  haven't taken Metformin since 2015. Controlled with diet and the minimal exercise I can do at this point. Last A1c was 5.5% in June.

Good for you!!

Just asking because it can bring on nosebleeds.

4,902 steps yesterday.

I did a big no-no early this morning when I had another nose  bleed coming, I blew my nose! Lo and below, there was a small wad of tissue in the bleeding nostril! The bleeding stopped almost immediately and so far OK today. I had been stuffing tissue in my nose to catch the blood I guess a piece broke off and got stuck and was irritating my nose.

4,988 steps yesterday. Knee was sore most of the day.

The second of the 2 new patches I tried from minimus.biz didn't do a thing, kind of disappointed. But I did find the first one that worked great (Natural Patches of Vermont Muscle & Joint Comfort Formula-Arnica) on Amazon so will get them next time I order.

Gramto6 - did you always have nosebleeds or did they start recently?  I wonder if patches containing arnica or salicylate (or Advil, Aleve) could be thinning your blood. The patches should deliver less arnica or aspirin than taking them in pill form, but the skin does absorb some.

I have had periodic nose bleeds, but nothing like the last 3 days.  I wondered about the patches too so have cut back on using them. Today I feel pretty good and no nose bleed since yesterday morning. Tiger Balm works fairly well so will use that sparingly.

4,136 steps yesterday.

Well, I did it again! This time I fell down the last 2 steps of the front porch deck. The kitties had knocked one of their food dishes off the edge and I was trying to reach it with my grabber. Over I went and landed in the weeds. First time I have been really glad my yard is overgrown and not mowed!! It was a relatively soft landing, I did get a couple boo boos on my left arm where it hit the septic tank warning device but overall besides a few aches here and there all is OK.

My knee is kind of acting up today so it may be a patch day to calm it down.

4,729 steps yesterday. Wore a small patch for about 6 hours yesterday.  Will not use one again for as long as possible.

Still a little stiff here and there but feel better than I thought I would. I'm too old for all these falls!!

Gram have you tried ice packs for about 20 minutes at a time, several times throughout the day?  My mom does it when hers bothers her and she said it helps.  She got some pretty good ones from the chiropractor.  They have thin covers over them to prevent the cold from being right on your skin.  Plus they have velcro  straps on them to help keep them in place.  It's a thought.  I think Medicare paid for them.  She has a larger one for the back and two smaller ones for knees and elbows, shoulders.  The next time I see her I will ask if she knows what brand it is.  She has had them for at least 7 or more years.  They are good quality.

I have gel freezer packs but am also a fan of bags of frozen peas. They don't get burning cold like ice packs and mold better around knees and other parts. I put them in zip freezer bags which are more durable and leak proof and have two sets so one is ready to go after the old ones are put back in the freezer after ~20 minutes. I put a dishtowel between the bag & my skin.

You can also make your own ice pack. I think you use 1/4 cup alcohol to 3/4 cup water.

I'll have to search and see if I can find a recipe!

The patches and potions don't seem to agree with me, I had 2 nose bleeds yesterday. 3,158 steps Saturday.

When I had knee surgery to replace my ACL, I found the frozen peas worked great - 20 min on, 20 min off.  The trick is to withstand the minute or two of "burn" before it goes numb. Once it is numb there is no pain at all. As I kid I always took the ice off the moment it started to hurt, but once I learned this trick I grew to appreciate the burn and blissful numbness.

Instead of narcotics for pain (one dose made me extremely nausious & dizzy - not good on crutches with kitties underfoot), I just used frozen peas.  I also healed and got my flexibility back 2X faster than the average patient half my age. Cold keeps the inflamation down, and the inflamation is what causes the pain.

Gramto6, if your knee joint moves around a lot (side-to-side), you might ask the doctor about getting a knee brace to hold it in the correct position. That can prevent further damage & pain.  I didn't wear it around the house pre-surgery unless it was bothering me, but did wear it when out and about to feel safe.

3,983 steps yesterday. Only used Tiger Balm twice and an ice pack later. No nose bleeds.

Next time I go out to shop I will get a bag frozen peas and one of frozen corn. I have a couple small ice packs that I used an ace bandage to put on my knee yesterday. Will do that until I go out again.

3,691 steps yesterday. Tiger Balm and icing kept things under control yesterday.

I ordered some patches from Amazon that I had sampled from minimus.biz that worked very well. Natural Patches of Vermont-Muscle & Joint Comfort Formula- Arnica. No camphor. Ingredients are Extra Virgin Olive Oil,Arnica, Cayenne, Rosemary, Lemongrass, and Ginger Essential Oils. They worked as well as the Salonpas patches so will put them in rotation as needed once they arrive.

Have you bought a cane to try?

Not yet. I am going to check Amazon.  The shopping cart helps a lot when I am grocery shopping. The drug store and liquor store always have someone that carries my things to the car for me. I have broom handles that I keep by the side door and the kitchen door that I use when I go outside.

Not to be a Debbie Downer, but don't expect it.  Once one has limitations from osteoarthritis, they tend to be permanent.  For instance, there is nothing that can reverse it in my back.  You figure out how to live with it.

Yeah, I know in my heart of hearts that is true, but I keep hoping...

I'm making a batch of drunken raisins (golden raisins soaked in gin) that are supposed to help with arthritis pain... I'll try anything once or twice.... :)
