AnimeMania July 21, 2020 Share July 21, 2020 “United We Fall” starting Wednesday, July 15th on ABC at 8:00–9:00 p.m. (the premiere is 2 half-hour episodes) “United We Fall” stars Will Sasso as Bill Ryan, Christina Vidal Mitchell as Jo Rodriguez, Jane Curtin as Sandy Ryan, Guillermo Diaz as Chuy Rodriguez and Ella Grace Helton as Emily Ryan. Parenting can be tough. Throw some overzealous extended family members into the mix and chaos will undoubtedly ensue. The profoundly realistic family sitcom follows the trials and tribulations of Jo and Bill, parents of two young kids, as they try to make it day to day as a functioning family. Bill’s very judgmental live-in mother and Jo’s large Latinx Catholic family will never hesitate to let our couple know they’re seemingly screwing up, but Bill and Jo will always have each other’s backs, united against everyone – other parents, teachers, doctors, specialists, coaches, co-workers and especially their kids. Episode 1: Pilot July 15, 2020 Bill and Jo juggle a typical day that starts with a parent-teacher conference and ends with a trip to the ER. After defending their parenting style, or lack thereof, to teachers, doctors and social workers, they find comfort in the fact that their kids are healthy and happy and that they’re all in this together, on the series premiere of “United We Fall". Episode 2: The Biter July 15, 2020 At Chuy’s insistence, Bill and Jo finally enroll Lulu in preschool only to discover she is a biter. While they navigate incident reports and overprotective parents, Sandy explores their family history with an ancestry DNA kit. Episode 3: Date Night July 22, 2020 Bill and Jo reluctantly ask Sandy to babysit after Chuy and Brie convince them to join their weekly date night. Bill and Jo discover they’re a bit rusty at romance, while Sandy discovers she’s a bit rusty at parenting. 1 Link to comment
SoMuchTV July 22, 2020 Share July 22, 2020 Not entirely unentertaining but I had a few nitpicks. Like, why couldn’t the brother or grandma Jane Curtain stay with the baby when they had to rush to the hospital? But hey, Mark Evan Jackson! But I would probably watch it if it was between things I like 🙂 2 Link to comment
AnimeMania July 22, 2020 Author Share July 22, 2020 It is a weird mix of Childish and Adult humor. The Adult humor may not make it suitable for children although everything about it screams this is a family show. Children friendly shows don't have Anal Prolapses and Penne Pasta jokes. No matter how true "Granny loves the Penne" might be. Ratings wise, the show is doing quite well, it helps that there is not much on that is not a repeat. 1 Link to comment
jewel21 July 24, 2020 Share July 24, 2020 I keep meaning to watch this show and keep forgetting. I did program my PVR this evening to record all future episodes so hopefully I can actually discuss this show properly next week. It's refreshing to see a new show on TV, and I like comedies, so I'm all for his. Plus, I like Will Sasso. 1 Link to comment
Deskisamess July 26, 2020 Share July 26, 2020 Episode 2...the mom called the 2 year old a bitch, in front of the older daughter. How does that pass for humor? Will Sasso is too too good for this drek. So is Jane Curtain. Gah. 3 Link to comment
Fostersmom July 30, 2020 Share July 30, 2020 What did Will Sasso do to piss someone off to get punished with this show? Is it too late for him to go back to CBS being the boyfriend for one of the women on Mom? 3 Link to comment
AnimeMania July 30, 2020 Author Share July 30, 2020 Episode 4 “Participation Trophy” – In an attempt to get Emily interested in something other than her iPad, Bill and Jo enroll her in her uncle Chuy’s soccer clinic. Meanwhile, Sandy’s infamous gift-giving habit gets out of hand on an all-new episode of “United We Fall,” WEDNESDAY, JULY 29 (8:00–8:30 p.m. EDT), on ABC. Link to comment

jewel21 July 30, 2020 Share July 30, 2020 I finally managed to catch an episode of this show. I didn't like it... Hopefully it'll improve with time. It's just not very funny. The Hawaiian shirts...the purse...it all fell flat. Oh well, there's always next week. 1 Link to comment

Darian July 30, 2020 Share July 30, 2020 I've watched all episodes and laughed once (the rest of the time, I was bored or cringing). Last week, when Jane Curtin's character confessed all the things that had gone wrong while she watched the kids. That was actually funny. But I'm out. Link to comment

They did it on Home Improvement, Camp Wilder, Last Man Standing and even Step by Step. 1 Link to comment

I don't know why, but I can't stand the brother. At all. Edited August 3, 2020 by Deskisamess 3 Link to comment
AnimeMania August 4, 2020 Author Share August 4, 2020 Episode 5 "My Favorite Marta" - Jo steps in as a role model for her teenage niece, Marta, much to her strict father Chuy’s dismay. Bill plays matchmaker for Sandy who, under the influence of post-colonoscopy drugs, inadvertently professes her love for her first husband, Dave. First Aired: August 5th, 2020 1 Link to comment
MarthaEllisanne August 6, 2020 Share August 6, 2020 I am a fan of Will Sasso and Jane Curtain, but this show does not deserve them. I am not a fan of shows with smart-ass children. Sitcoms should take notes from shows like Raymond, where the children were children, more background than plot line. Even the kid on Two and a Half Men was generally portrayed as a real kid, even though he had funny lines. But United is in the Full House lane. Yes, I know people loved Full House, and the children of those fans will probably love United. Last night the show appeared to add a teenaged girl to the household so we can expect the usual teen angst-rebellion plots (eye-roll). I gave it a try, but think I am out. I am not going to blame Sasso and Curtain for being in the show because a job is a job, but hope they find something better soon. 4 Link to comment

Jane Curtin is a comedy legend, can't she get something better than THIS? Even in pandemic summer with literally nothing else new on, this is just too painful to watch I had high hopes for this. So disappointing. Please goddess, don't let Hitmen be this much of a letdown!! 1 Link to comment

jewel21 August 20, 2020 Share August 20, 2020 I'm not sure I saw one either but I was on my phone quite a bit when I should have been watching. This show is still kind of just "meh" for me, but I think I'm just desperate for any new TV, that I keep tuning in. Does anyone know how it's doing ratings wise? Link to comment

Parents on TV always whine about their kids. Don't have kids if you don't want to put up with everything they entail. You sign up for losing your freedom, sleep, tantrums, endless kid shows, etc. I've never wanted kids. Best decision I ever made, and I've made that clear from the beginning in every serious relationship I've had. 3 Link to comment

Tachi Rocinante August 27, 2020 Share August 27, 2020 Watched the entire run, it wasn't bad. Jane Curtin was actually the weak link for me. Her character is just way too self-unaware. 1 Link to comment

jewel21 August 29, 2020 Share August 29, 2020 I actually really enjoyed this episode, so naturally it would be the season finale, heh. I can't believe I finally start getting into this show, and it's already over. Link to comment
Deskisamess September 8, 2020 Share September 8, 2020 We watched a couple more episodes that were recorded. It's just not funny. I think hubby deleted the remaining shows. I like the actor who played Dave, but his face shows up a lot. Surely there are more actors looking for short term work. There is something off putting about seeing the same actor on several shows at the same time. 1 Link to comment
