S04.E18: Local news and Sinclair Broadcast Group
Lantern7 replied to Athena's topic in Last Week Tonight
My best guess? Back in the halcyon days of The Daily Show, John was put into service as the unofficial butler. Today, he's cashing in the favors. Or maybe those actors are big fans of his. -
S04.E18: Local news and Sinclair Broadcast Group

Typical LWT episode before the four week break . . . dig in on the president, show a New York weatherman acting weird, showcase a problem few people know about, give us new villains to watch out for, then go into a weird direction. And he bonds with his TDS buddies, and fools around with messed-up wax figures. -
Heads up: teaser trailer for FLCL was released at Anime Expo. Dunno when it'll air. Might be a new story, might be a continuation, might be a retelling. I still think the story was good at six episodes, but I guess we'll see.

Nice. So even Elise, Bert and/or Phil were tired of their "antics." Then again, they had won, so of course they wouldn't be considered. Perhaps no past winners were meant to come back, and the producers stuck in Uchenna & Joyce near the end of the process.

"Kevin and Drew"??? [/hadtocomment] I don't know . . . I was thinking that Elise & Bert might have had a plan for how the genders would be split should there be an all-star season, and that BJ & Tyler might not have fit into the slot that Eric & Danielle were awkwardly shoved into. I will concede that the "Hippies" probably would have qualified for "Second Chances" had Eric not choked in the end. I mean, they did have all those adoring fans.

The Master/Missy: "Detestable Chap . . . All Of Them"
Lantern7 replied to Lantern7's topic in Doctor Who
Alternate plan for Missy, had Michelle Gomez not walked away. It seems wrong in a lot of ways, but I would have liked to have seen that play out. -
Like I said, if the Frats won, Bert and Elise might not have thrown Eric & Danielle into the mix for TAR11. And I don't know that they would have wanted a fixed number of teams gender-wise, so the "Hippies" might have been passed over.

I'm okay with Eugene not looking that much like canon Arseface. For one, Arseface was pretty fucked up. For another, Eugene's mouth looks like an arse. I'm not sure if you can stick a shotgun in your mouth and wind up with that. Then again, if you stick a shotgun in your mouth and fire, you're probably not gonna live to be called "Arseface," except by a coroner.

That reminds me: doesn't the Doctor have a Clara-sized hole in his memory? How would he remember her? i mean, with Rory, you can say that the crack in time from Eleven's era put the Doctor into the universe where Rory no longer existed. Or maybe Moffat doesn't like it when Doctor Who actors get more roles as time-travelers. ETA: Just found this image. As far as farewells go, I think it would be appropriate for Capaldi's Doctor to meet the original, since the actor has been a fanboy from the very beginning.

I slept through the Mets' win. Not only did Asrubal stay a Met and intact, he hit a go-ahead homer. Now I wish I had went, though I would've left during the rain delay, certain that they'd blow it against the Phillies. Did Clint get a proper haircut before the game? He looked shaggy on the back page today. Still thinking Steven Matz has everybody beat in terms of rookie debuts. If anybody gets close, his grandpa in the stands having a ball would put him over the top.

That was epic. And odd. Basically, Bill is now kinda/sorta sentient water like her crush from "The Pilot." And they're going to explore space and time together. Now I'm wondering if they'll bump into Clara and Ashildr. I hope not, because I'm thinking Maisie Williams has bigger things on her plate. Ditto Jenna Coleman. Not to mention that Clara sucks as a character, and I don't think Chibnall (sic?) can improve her. You gotta admit, if we don't see any incarnation of the Master for some time, this would be the perfect end. Two scorpions stinging each other to death because that's what they are. Also liking Missy's weaponized umbrella. Sonic umbrella? Laser?? Pity Seven never thought of that. He didn't even have the screwdriver. Just a companion with a penchant for explosives. I like the idea of the Doctor coming full circle, though I wonder if this would be during or before One's adventures. Thanks to BBCA, there were no credits. Had to hit AVClub to find out it was David Bradley. Hey, if you're going to get a new actor to play Hartnell's version, why not get the guy that played Hartnell? I'm hoping Moffat doesn't do too weird with his finale. I mean, what if the Doctor becomes brain-damaged/amnesiac, regenerates into something younger and female, and the First Doctor adopts her as his granddaughter? And the next season picks up after "The Dalek Invasion of Earth"? That's some weird-ass fanfic to be had. I think I'm gonna miss Nardole. I would've made a bigger deal about him being more/less than human. I can't remember any Doctor carrying around a deadpan snarker. ETA for @theschnauzers: Richard Hurndall played One in "The Five Doctors."

Animal memes from Cheezburger. Those aren't obese dogs in #2 . . . they look like Shar Pei puppies that are supposed to be that wrinkly. While I'm thinking of the breed . . . Paddington tries (and fails) to diet, and one of his feline friends goes nuts over a butterfly. I like Paddington's ears moving at the end of the clip.

CBR goes over character wants and not-wants for Outsiders.

Normally, I would not post before an episode, but I need to alert anybody watching on BBC America: the episode runs for ninety minutes, and it starts at 8:30 p.m. this evening. Please spread the word to your fellow fans.

Are you in Atlantic City tonight? Do you need an excuse to leave Atlantic City? Then you might be interested in this. -
There are only two more Attack on Titan episodes left. Is Toonami going to keep it in the 12:30 slot? I wouldn't be that surprised. Ditto if they plug the second season at 3 a.m. once Ghost In The Shell wraps up, even if it means skipping that anime's second season.

Thanks to the latest episode, we now know Mike Tyson's birthday is today. Now . . . what is that in Computer?
-
When is Capaldi's final episode? Tomorrow or on Christmas? I was thinking that we'd have a situation where the Doctor and Missy hug and regenerate together, and we end up with a bizarre-brained hybrid that might not be that good for the universe. Does anybody else read Doctor Who Magazine? Years ago, somebody wrote an essay about the most Doctor-like performances. The top slot: Gene Wilder as Willy Wonka. I don't remember the exact list, though. If it's updated, I'd recommend John Noble as Walter Bishop in Fringe. Astrid was a kinda/sorta companion, right? And Gene was K-9!

Looking to see if anybody else has been following the series. Also, Disney XD will be running six episodes tomorrow morning starting at 9 a.m., followed by Pokémon the Movie: Volcanion and the Mechanical Marvel. It wasn't half-bad. Updates? Well, Lillie's egg hatched, and it turned out to be an Alola Vulpix . . . a white ice-type that's cute. Lillie now has the nerve to touch her new partner, but not anybody else's. In the latest episode, Ash and Professor Kukui found out that Rockruff had been going to a Fight Club. I know, Kukui likened it to a dojo . . .but come on. Basically, wild Pokemon beat the snot out of each other in the name of training. In the end, Rockruff mastered Rock Throw, and it got adopted by Ash, because Kukui never "caught" it.

I just want to state that I do not care about baseball the way I used to . . . and more importantly, I did not wish immediate and extreme harm on the Yankees, especially to a guy who never even got an at-bat. That is friggin' cruel.

Mets are rebounding, but they're looking into getting help. Big help.

It's official . . . we have a month to go. Well, maybe a month and seven days if CN/AS runs "Rickshank Rickdemption" first.
-
Awwwwwww. Maybe it was an Atlanta thing, and he would've stayed healthy and won at least a dozen games for the Mets. Seriously, how does a guy that old and heavy stay in the game? And now I'm concerned about R.A. Dickey. How has he been lately?
