Beth Spotswood's Slow News Day is covering this show, yay! http://yourslownewsday.com/60-days-in-someone-gets-a-rash/

JVV's talent is brevity. Sure he has his formula, but it works and we could see it here. Daniel stayed and listened because JVV made it sound like the whole intervention would be really short and he'd be done. And then the two magic words "You going?" Bang.

Brenda got on my nerve especially with the Kenzie Custody dispute... that she ended up "winning" because the other grandparents had the sense to stop fighting. I found her overbearing.
-
I couldn't believe that Barbra used the "get out" towel signal just to whine to the crew about her roomies splitting the Ramen like the world was ending.
-
Maybe it could have supported her weight - but she had a way of throwing herself into a chair that must have put extra torsional forces on the toilet seat and broke it.

S41.E17: Russell Crowe / Margo Price
Toaster Strudel replied to formerlyfreedom's topic in Saturday Night Live
The show came to a complete halt for me with that interminable Bruce Shandling sketch and the live audience seems to have shared my feelings. Pogie's Pepperoni was a gem... I loved when Aidy-as-manager showed up and their heads literally exploded. Leslie Jones in any sketch brings joy to my weary heart. That smile... that energy... she is peerless. -
The dog cases are for me! They're my favorites.

Something else I found interesting, is that the women in the pod seem to have affectionate, supportive, and positive interactions with each other. Barbra tapped into that. In contrast, Tami got started immediately with an agenda of domination and power struggles, and an urgent need to be worshiped and admired. She doesn't seem to realize what leaders are actually made of. Leaders are people that are very invested in the social life around them, who have a high resistance to social stressors, and bring something positive to group cohesion/dynamics. The leader of a room full of sociopaths may be bringing a different kind of "positive" to the group than the leader of a boardroom. I do think in both cases, it's more about influence than coercion. Tami is all about intimidation and negative emotions. She is highly sensitive to social stressors. She is not someone that people would naturally want to follow, or trust to put the group's interest ahead of her own.

There is something "off" about Jeff, the way he moves, looks at people, etc. He is in his own little world, tries to fit in the surroundings, but cannot read the most basic social situation. it doesn't surprise me that he got picked on as a youngster. He is not, in my opinion, fit for a career where you need to exercise authority on other people, and deal with group dynamics. He should concentrate on solitary work.

Social Media & Spoilery Speculation

Everything Mo does, he does for the green card. -
They showed a lot of pee pads and towels... I'll venture a guess that there were innumerable POOP pads that went unmentioned. I don't get what made Lupe so endearing to Gilbert that he'd do all that for her, but who am I to question Cupid's arrows? Her legs and feet were completely out of alignment from all this Jabba-the-Hut'ing around in bed, no wonder she couldn't walk anymore.
-
Would Gilbert have been so shocked and upset to see her eat an extra burrito that she had to hide it in her purse? Lupe, and many people on this show, seem to be possessed by "cravings" - it's a word I never use. i am hungry therefore I eat... but "cravings?" Their lives are dominated by those cravings. For all the psychological mumbo jumbo and "comfort eating" one has to be blind not to see the power of genetics. Her niece Maricela was on her way to 600 lbs. Many of the show participants have extremely obese relatives.

Rob made a Gorn! -
I just love Pimento - most of the characters are charming and light-hearted, but he and Rosa are the ones that bring the pathos in comedy in a delicious way. His stories are always so outrageously horrific. It works for me!

Blaze broke my heart. Most of the time she was playing the role of the brave, hyper-mature child, and I think parroting a lot of the adult ideas and attitudes towards her parents' addiction that she must hear all the time. Probably she gets accolades from the family for playing that role. But then suddenly in the middle of it she couldn't bear the pain, the brave mask would come down, the enormity of the situation would hit her and she would weep uncontrollably like the child that she is. When your mother tries to convince you that you are loved and not at all abandoned because she has "not nodded off on heroin since November" for your sake, even when that's not even true, it's as f'd up as it gets. Poor Blaze.

Intervention: Codependent - General Discussion
Toaster Strudel replied to Primetimer's topic in Intervention: Codependent
Eric spoke very fast and had tics. Something odd! -
I have trouble with the theory that losing loved ones leads to hoarding, for starters. Ann was just nasty and argumentative. I'll bet that the way she controlled people with the hoard extends to other areas of life. I am disappointed they didn't dwell on the dogs, pads & smell... and them being caged. At the end, the boyfriend was saying one thing... his facial expression the opposite. I think he was looking for an excuse to bolt. Maggie's house was a disaster before and after.
-
Maybe it's the editing but I felt that Boston was a nice kid, very sociable, invested in others, which put her in a natural leadership position where people were happy to do her errands, and she liked that. I think Tami is jealous.

I figured that they get a big bonus for staying the 60 days. That's why Robert will try to make it through his punishment.

Mackenzie looked absolutely ravishing on the reveal stage tonight. I ever want to make a a movie about peas I am calling Yvonne.
-
Dr Green is an angel! Dorothy is a saint! This episode was hoarder heaven, LOL
-
Nathan!!!! Hugs! You did so well. This was the most upbeat Hoarders episode ever. I hope you continue to do well.

I know that Schnekhardt or whatever his name is SAID that she wouldn't be working on Sandpiper. But he looks like the incarnation of Satan and even the name of the law firm sounds vaguely evil. The camera, the whole way the scene was setup was to make it look like he was manipulating her and playing her anxieties like a fiddle. Kim knows some dirt on how Saul gets some clients... even though she may not work on the case they will ask her for you know... tips. No way that Satan's attorney, who has the balls to try to hire his opponent in court to his side, will have the balls to ask her to compromise her ethics further. And then there are the big banking clients she brought in. What will happen with them?
