  1. Not a fan of Penny's hair ears on top of her head.
  2. No idea how I got it, and it certainly wasn't an instaget, but somehow I did manage to come up with Washington for FJ. I must have seen old photos of people selling apples somewhere. I wasn't able to get too many TS, though -- just term and Oahu/Sunday. Some of the place/date ones I knew either the place or the date, but not both. Congrats to Lisa! I still have to root for my fellow Microbiologist. Sam acted like he was tired and/or bored, leaning as he did. Yeah, but he missed the year....
  3. If they had only had audio and hadn't shown the clip, I wouldn't have gotten it -- Willy Wonka doesn't sing that song in the movie. The candy store guy does. I don't even know if that guy has a name.
  4. I'm not a fan of Alan, but he is marginally less bad than Austin, so I'm not sad he beat the crap out of Austin. Oh, and Austin, Alex didn't ask you about your money, you jerk. I barely paid attention because Austin and Alan, but I did get the TS of Landing, Hammerstein, dugout, and alibi, which was a complete guess. It was the only thing that made sense, and I'm a little surprised that none of the contestants tried it. I probably should have gotten FJ, but I didn't.
  5. No kidding. Other than the board-hopping, it wasn't a bad game. Lilly wasn't nearly as annoying this time around -- maybe because she didn't have to wear her college sweatshirt with the sleeves pushed up.
  6. Tim, Tim, Tim. Myanmar is not only not in the southern hemisphere, it is far from landlocked. Bhutan is so very wrong as well, but at least it is landlocked. Perhaps they got their Tropics confused? That said, I knew it had to be somewhere in Africa, but couldn't come up with anything. Much tougher FJ than last night! I did get a couple of TS, though -- sugar maple, purple, and Mozart. Sugar maple as a TS surprised me, too.
  7. I happened upon a showing of Notting Hill last night, in which Rhys Ifans (Xenophilius Lovegood) plays Hugh Grant's flatmate. His character and the one played by Emma Chambers sort of get together in the end, and I couldn't help but think that the two of them could certainly be Luna's parents.
  8. Except by Buzzy when he was introduced and also when he won. I'd forgotten how annoying he is. I didn't give the game my full attention, but I did get the TS of Silver Bullet Band and Ford Fusion, both of which were surprising to me. FJ seemed obvious enough to me that I second-guessed myself. They're in honor of Cindy Stowell and represent colon cancer.
  9. It wasn't the new champ, it was the girl who looked like she was about 12 -- Nicole? -- whose upspeak went into registers only dogs can hear.
  10. I'm sure they do -- have you seen the elaborate kits? I never had Legos as a kid (we had Lincoln logs and tinker toys -- wooden ones!), so I never got into them, but man. Some of those sets are pretty awesome.
  11. I also said Quito for FJ. I missed a lot of the show because I was trying to regain my hearing after end girl's high-pitched upspeak broke my ears. But, after Upton Sinclair was (incorrectly) guessed, I was able to get Sinclair Lewis. I always get them confused, too. I also got statins. I like the new champ mostly, but yeah, that put-upon attitude has got to go. Her Lego Alex was just a little bit awesome, though.
  12. I think the baby was meant to sound like Howard’s mother, and that’s why she sounded odd.
  13. I guessed Adams, too. That we've had two presidents named Johnson completely escaped my memory. Clearly I need to brush up on U.S. History if ever I want to go on Jeopardy! My excuse is that my U.S. History teacher in high school lo these many years ago was often either hungover or on his way to being drunk. It surprised me a little that Kelvin started near the bottom of the categories. The (admittedly few) folks I know who are on the spectrum like order and would never start anywhere except at the top. That was a shocking TS! I got that one, along with galaxies, savory, club, library, Boys Of Summer, and Centerfield.
  14. I'll probably go, just so I can snark on it after.
  15. Yay, new champ! She was on fire -- which means she'll probably flame out tomorrow night. Do people who don't live on the East Coast really need all that much explanation and a picture of the Appalachian Trail? Granted, I live about ten miles from it, so I could answer that one from the picture before they drew the line in, but still. I was glad that the new champ (cannot remember her name!) pronounced it correctly (according to those of us around here, at least). :) I got da Bears and powder blue, but because I always get them confused, said DeNiro instead of Pacino. I know, they are nothing alike, really, but I get them mixed up anyway.
  16. I had high hopes for middle guy tonight. Oh well. FJ was an instaget for me. Maybe the clue writers think that Eastman and Kodak film are before everyone's time. I also got Dean, post hoc, and To Sir With Love, and am sad that that one was a TS. There may have been others, but I have trick-or-treaters!
  17. And every night (and day, for that matter).
  18. Watership Down? Really? There is a boat in it, I guess. I did like the other guy's guess of The Ballad of Captain Crunch, though. It made me laugh. Unfortunately, I drew a complete blank for FJ. I kind of liked Morgan's miniature donkey story, but her vocal fry while she was telling it was killing me. TS and missed DD I got include glutton, antepenultimate (just from knowing penultimate and knowing that the answer needed to start with ant-), Warren Zevon, Ahab's leg, shirtdress, Tulsa, and Fort Wayne. Made me sad that no one knew Warren Zevon and Werewolves of London.
  19. Well, I knew FJ would have to be a small (or narrow) country, but Central America never occurred to me. I picked Chile. Oops! A better choice than Brazil, though. You don't suppose the judges would have accepted "That motel where MLK was shot" do you? I could not come up with the name of it for anything. However, I did get the surprising TS of MIT (particularly surprising after Harvard was eliminated) as well as tang, LSU, Cat Stevens, petals and phototropism. I can't believe they felt the need to show a photo of Arnold Schwarzenegger.
  20. Good gravy re: FJ last night. Maybe the writers thought people would not say Clue because it was the obvious choice? I can't think of anything else it could possibly be, so not sure why anyone wouldn't go for the obvious choice. I was sad that no one knew Spirited Away -- one of my favorite movies ever! I also may or may not have yelled "Goblet of Fire!" and "North Carolina! The state, not the people!" at my TV. Other TS I got were 1990s, Emerson, and the surprising TS of Mauna Kea -- if it isn't Mauna Loa (which is active and erupting), it's Mauna Kea. OTOH, I do a lot of crossword puzzles, and never know which Mauna they're looking for.
  21. Poor Mary Grace, bless her heart. But I'm sure she's real nice [/Gomer Pyle]. I didn't get FJ, but I should have! Cayce first led my meandering brain to K.C. and the Sunshine Band, then Kasey Kasem, and then time ran out before I could get to Casey Jones, who had better watch his speed. Some awfully boneheaded guesses, and surprising TS -- like when Nan said Scotland and no one else was able to get Scottish, and when no one was able to even take a guess at Thousand Islands. I had no idea on that one, but it seemed like a good guess. I also got nightingale, FM, Pindar (which I suppose isn't really a TS now), Archbishop of Canterbury, and spruce.
  22. I said brainiac for FJ. Highbrow makes so much more sense. Nan got lucky to win this one. I did get a bunch of TS, though, including undergraduate, thunderbird*, Waylon Jennings, Margo Martindale, World Health Organization, and choir invisible. He is an ex-parrot! *Clearly none of these people have seen Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them!
  23. And it ends with the two of them doing Neil Diamond karaoke! Definitely one of the best eps.
