For the win.I know I'm supposed to hate Matthew, and I do, but I just couldn't get past how ridiculous he is. He's like a little kid dressed up in his dad's suit screaming at anyone who doesn't play along and pretend he's a grown up. That, combined with his utter certainty that he's the smartest guy in the room (and the specialist snowflake that ever snowflaked) and his complete lack of awareness of how he comes across just ends up being more pathetic than anything else. Momchelle can go any time now. I believe that she literally never spoke without using the word "mom" or "kids." And what was with the condescending "and what did you learn from the judges" crap? Matthew was way out of line in his response to her but she was definitely poking the bear. So far I really like Jay, Rue, the tallish Italian food truck woman, and Eddie (I could watch him cook healthy food all day long. And if he wanted to drop and give me twenty every now and then, I wouldn't object).

Pink, since you've seen the taping, can you tell us if Angela comes across as a villain to you? Do they seem to paint her as the bad guy in the breakup?

Girl Meets Meta, Easter Eggs, and Flashbacks
Gbb replied to methodwriter85's topic in Girl Meets World [V]
Speaking for "the viewers," yes. -
On a lighter note, has anyone else found themselves randomly saying "Boom, boom" in the tater tot voice? Just me?

Sounds like they might be going to tone Ava down a bit. Fingers crossed. Auggie is better this season; maybe Ava will be too.

Girl Meets Meta, Easter Eggs, and Flashbacks

He meant she was too young for heels, that dressing too old takes away her vulnerability. -
I don't think we're supposed to see Josh as the bad guy at all. I think we're supposed to see Josh as a decent guy determined to do the right thing. He's been properly appalled at the idea of dating a 14 year old (if a small part of him might be intrigued at the idea of a possible someday). The other guy at the party also reacted exactly as he should have at the idea of coming on to girls in middle school: Ack! and a step back. I loved how supportive the girls were to Maya, but I agree they probably should have tossed in a "and who knows if you'll even feel this way in 4 years" when they talked about her being 18 and going after Josh. That could have been the reason for Josh's "Thanks for planning out my whole life" line. I definitely agree the writers have to tread lightly with this storyline for a few years because the alternative is either sad (Maya constantly in unrequited love with Josh) or ick (Maya in requited love with Josh).

I kind of think Michael Jacobs was damned if he did and damned if he didn't when it comes to Angela. It looks like he never intended to have Shawn and Angela together after all this time. As much I adored them in the BMW days, I'm fine with that. High school sweethearts that make it together into adulthood aren't exactly the norm, and Shawn and Angela were/are both broken people in a lot of ways. Still, by the end of this season it looks like most of the BMW cast will have been on the show. Not to bring Trina back would have been a real slap in the face--to her and to BMW fans. So he has to bring her back but not have her available for a relationship with Shawn. So I get why he's doing it the way he is. All that having been said, I'll agree with everyone that it sounds like it's going to be handled more clunkily than it should have. I'll wait until I've seen the episode to decide for sure.

The more I think about it, the more enamored I am with the "dorm party" scene. It was such a pleasant surprise to see the college girls immediately understand what was going on with Maya and take her under their wings rather than playing to stereotypes and have them be bitchy or pitying or dismissive, or some combination of the three. I also really liked seeing Riley as the one pushing Maya to do something scary rather than the other way around. And though it was played for an OTT joke (that I found hilarious) we may have gotten a tiny glimpse of the future with the football players and Gamma Gamma Nu girls. When they do make it to college, I can see Riley as the one who fits in more quickly into the social & sorority scene than Maya. Finally, I really love how they showed us that Maya's crush on Josh is based on something more than the Boing!factor and that the fact that she sees him as a loving and caring person is a part of her attraction to him. Of course, with Josh being set up to be around more now, they're going to have to play it carefully to avoid the ick factor until Maya's character is older.

I actually much prefer this format to the teams. Last season I rarely made it through an episode and just didn't care much about anyone involved. I thought the new format was fun and light and it kept my attention a lot more. I enjoy sibling hijinx, though, and thought the ending with Drew in his princess dress on the Vegas strip was good, pure fun. I can see how it would bug anyone who doesn't.

Loved it too. I agree the show has really hit its stride this season. I hope they keep it going. I'm really loving the mix absurdity and (semi) real life lessons. Speaking of which... Especially now that they've winked and nodded at the absurdity of Cory being their teacher again and not *really* teaching history, I'm totally on board with using his classroom as a frame to build that week's moral around. I like the classroom scenes and don't really care how they make them work.

It was either a celebrity episode or an All-star episode. I think it might have been one of the all-star rounds. I just remember Ted saying that they would have production clean the ice cream machine and thinking "Hm, they don't normally do that. I guess it's because it's a special episode."

S12.E01: Auditions #1: Memphis And Dallas
Gbb replied to Tara Ariano's topic in So You Think You Can Dance
Maybe I'm being very naive, but I assumed Paula really did call Richard Simmons. Just because he hasn't been making a lot of public appearances doesn't mean he doesn't answer the phone when a friend calls (if she is one). I hope for Kiosh's sake it wasn't just a joke. -
I'm bummed to hear Alton Brown won't be on this season. A little Giada goes a long way, and somebody's got to fill the missing time. I like Bobby fine but I don't like Bobby and Giada together. There's something smug and self-satisfied about them that becomes exponentially worse when they share a screen. Alton can be kind of an ass but he's really good at puncturing the cloud of hot air that envelops the Bobby & Giada Show. I'm afraid they're just going to be insufferable now.

Season One Talk: Spring Baking Championship
Gbb replied to Meredith Quill's topic in Spring Baking Championship [V]
Well, damn. I've been rooting for Dwayne all along, mostly because I went to grad school in Oxford, MS and hung out in the City Grocery bar every Friday night with my friends. (We couldn't afford to eat in the restaurant). But I'm compelled to say that Alan totally deserved the win tonight. His cake was absolutely beautiful, and Dwayne's looked like ass. -
Wow. I just came across this article about GMW on Forbes, of all places. It's extremely complimentary. Here's a taste: Read the whole thing here: http://www.forbes.com/sites/merrillbarr/2015/05/18/girl-meets-world/

Is it kosher to post the preview?

Do you have Hulu? You can watch most of the early Top Chef Seasons there, which is what I did. Some of them are classics, imo

Me three. I'm not really an Anne Burrell fan but I can totally see myself throwing the same little hissy fit out of frustration and the stress of competition (complete with shoving the thing that was dripping water everywhere) then having to find the producer afterward and apologize for being a bitch.
-
Yep. I finally conceded it was rigged when they praised Hung's dessert over Anne's then gave her the win. I didn't realize how much I'd accepted it as fact until I looked at the 4 contestants for last week and thought, "Jet Tila has the biggest Food Network presence, so he's winning this one." And damned if he didn't. The fix is in :(

Actually, I saw on their Facebook page that they've started their own construction company, T&C Construction, so I think we've seen the last of Izzy. I totally understand it from a financial perspective, but I'm going to miss him.

Here's a thought I can't shake about Shawn and Katy. It's probably darker than Disney wants to go, but it does reconcile the "Shawn is never truly happy" thing and would let Maya's story continue to mirror Shawn's, and it would give some kind of meaning to this S&K rush-to-relationship, IMO. What if Shawn and Katy do become involved, maybe even getting married, and then Katy dies or is killed in an accident? If would give Maya a ton of story/angst to play out and it would give Shawn a reason to stay around.
-
I don't know. Izzy's only been in 1 episode since the Craftsman ep and it could have been recorded earlier for all we know. Now 1 episode into the new season and still no Izzy? I hope I'm wrong but I suspect he may be gone :(
-
I'm weirdly enamored with Danielle Fishel's reading of the line, "Not long" when Shawn asks, "How long does [Cory] have to live." Anyone else notice it? The acting choices she made with her facial expression, body language and tone of voice we're all unexpected but just a great way to go.

I just checked this week's ratings at TV By The Numbers. Eps 1, 2 and 3 got a .5 and Episode 4, with Shawn and Mr. Feeny, got a .7. Bodes well for the show and for Rider fans, I think. The ratings for Friday's episode aren't up yet, but I wouldn't be suprised if they got a bump from Eric as well.
