  1. I totally get that... with normal people in real life..... But on this show, where the woman often make suggestive comments about each other's body parts, attend parties featuring a stripper named RiDICKulous, opening discuss use of sexual toys and aids, and simulate sex acts with each other (Margot and Kandi comes to mind), "Let's have a 3-some is par for the course, and shouldn't be taken seriously.
  2. Phaedra's real problem wasn't that Kenya flirted with Apollo. It was that Apollo flirted back. She's mad at Kenya because she can't bring herself to be mad at the person who actually wronged her..... Apollo, her husband. That's also why the Nene/Peter flirting thing wasn't a big deal. Nene flirted with Peter. But Peter wasn't interesting in Nene....AT ALL...
  3. I don't think that Porsha is self aware enough to consciously do this. She's pretty simple in her thoughts. To her, THOT is a fun girl and that's what she wants to do right now. So she doesn't mind bring called the princess of THOTLandia. I doubt she's put much thought about the misogyny behind the term. Or that she's at least 10 years too old to consider herself a viable THOT.
  4. Fox would not renew AI every year, if it didn't make money.... A heck of a lot of money. Enough to pay it's 3 judges millions each year, and still make millions. I just found Harry's be grateful because AI is paying you .... off putting. This is a business arrangement not a charity project. AI chooses the contestants, not only for their talent, but probably more importantly on their ability to make money for the brand. That's why we had contestants like the Seavy kid. Why there's rarely an unattractive or grossly overweight person on the show. I stand corrected, from the interwebs it appears contestants probably make about 10% of every itunes song sold. Leaving the remaining 90% split between AI, song writers/producers, and apple.
  5. When Harry mentioned all the money AI spends on Quentin/the contestants, he neglected to mention how much money AI makes off of Quentin and rest of the contestants. Their songs are on Itunes every week. At $1.29 a pop, they are easily selling several hundred thousand worth of songs each week. The contestants don't get any of that money. But Harry and AI in general treat this like college sports. Where the colleges reap all the financial benefits of a hot industry by using cheap labor, and then act like the cheap labor should be grateful for the microscopic compensation they get.
  6. I hated the whole exchange with Quentin. He was standing there looking like he was about to cry, and Ryan pushes him to talk (I know it's his job.....). He was clearly emotional, and not at his most eloquent. Harry was out of line. He deliberately goaded a young man that was already clearly upset on live tv by calling him ungrateful and basically telling him to quit. He could have addressed it after the show or during the break. Glad Quentin got a chance to clarify and he did it gracefully. If he had any "contempt" in his voice towards Harry, rightfully so. Harry drove the bus over him on live tv. His fate is sealed.
  7. I do think that part of Phaedra's message to the young men, was that despite their circumstances that can still achieve their goals. it was a great messge and I'm glad she did it. And I hate to defend Greg of all people, but he was married to the mother of his 5 children.. And based on his and Nene's wedding spinoff, he did have a relationship with them, even though they didn't care for Nene. I would not put him in the irresponsible father pile.
  8. Looked like keloid scarring. Not uncommon in African American skin. I don't think it was intentional or spelled anything. Just probably an injury that keloided rather than smoothly heal.
  9. Got to say, I did not miss, Niecy or David at all. Enjoying the Sheldon/MJ late night phone calls, and slow (for MJ) relationship build. Not looking forward to how the show will mess it all up. I can totally see her not saying anything. To her, the situation was normal. She wasn't afraid, she knew how to pour a bowl of cereal and get herself ready to school. Her mother may have told her not to tell anyone else, or she'd be taken away. Kids will do anything to protect their mother. Happens alot with abuse/neglected kids.
  10. "9....{sniffle, sniffle}....to 5" Yeah I'm pretty sure that balcony scene is an homage to the Five Heartbeats, rather than Suge/Vanilla Ice.
  11. I'm pretty sure Suge Knight got the idea from the movie The Five Heartbeats. Big Red dangled somoene over the balcony over some music royalties.
  12. There hasn't been any new episode threads since the 2nd ep. But I noticed that people made comments on the 3rd episode on this thread, so it looks like this is turning into an all episodes thread. Loving the MJ/Niecy dynamic. Both are right and wrong and many levels. Did Niecy do the do in MJs bed so that she could watch it later in the survellience camera?... Also enjoyed them touching on the professional Latina perspective with her producer and her date. When she snapped at him, for complimenting MJ about her immigration piece, and being a proud latino... felt like a very real coversation, and one I've never seen on TV before.
  13. The "N-word please" look on Naomi's face when she saw that Hakeem necklace was the best piece of acting she's done on this show.
  14. Geraldo seemed to follow the mood of the Trumps in the Vivica vs Kenya fight. Up into that point he was on the Vivica is the winkest link train, until the Trumps seemed to support Vivica over Kenya. I've watched Kenya on HW and I believe she (and most of the other HWs) plays a character most of the time. Or at a very minimum play up certain parts of their personality for the cameras. I can't go as far as to think that she or any "reality star" are that vile IRL. Kenya is good at creating reality show drama, that's what they hired her to do. Vivica unfortunately sealed her fate as being 3rd place by calling Kenya out her name. No way she makes the finals. She was justifiably upset, but she did go g-fab.
  15. This one of the few times that I felt Sasheer's natural speech pattern works well with the character she played. She fit in well with the golly-wow tone of the skit.
  16. While I love the acitng on this show, I must say that Lee Daniels is knocking it out the park, directing the episodes. I'd guess a lot of the acting choices from Taraji and Terrance are at his direction. The quieter scenes, like when Cookie first walked into Lucious home, a lot about the characters that words could not convey. He definitely has a knack from inserting everyday realness into his projects.

    S01.E01: Pilot

Another scene where Taraji rocked it. She conveyed so much in that scene without saying a word. Pride, shame, nervousness, love... she got all that across.
  18. I'll admit to only half watching this season, but I never realzed how ripped Jeremy was until this episode. Most of the muscle guys they cast on this show walk around shirtless preening all the time. But Jeremy seemed to keep it covered most of the time. One more reason he seemed like a standup guy. Would love to see him in an All-Star season.
  19. I may be in the minority here, but I felt bad for Chantelle. I thought she very calmly and eloquently described her issue with being called 'Panda'. She explained that she didn't think it came from a place of negativity from Yu Tsai, but he seem to take in personally and accuse her of having an attitude, rather than just apologizing and agreeing not to use his pet name anymore. She seems to get accused of a lot of petty stuff that for whatever reason is never caught on camera. Changing makeup and hair, insinuating she hooked up with Keith, having a bad attitude (or at least any worse attitude than the rest of them). You'd think if she was that bad, they'd have more on camera. Shei is two faced for telling Keith anything.... I didn't get why Keith was so mad.... Unless something really did go down. The rest of them just seem extremely negative towards her, it would no wonder she kept to herself and tried not to engage in their drama.
  20. The standup comedians almost always just do their standup routines during the monologue. Louis CK, and Kevin Hart immediately come to mind from recent memory. Unfortunately, SNL book very few actual stand up comedians as hosts. It's more often comedic actors like Jim Carey. I honestly don't want to see Chris Rock do a song and dance routine or a monologue written by SNL writers. Although he makes his money doing funny movies, his true talent is stand up comedy, so I was happy he choose standup material for his monologue. I enjoyed the show as a whole. Although the Rock/Leslie Jones skit was horrible. I do wonder if Sasheer will make until next season, especially with the addition of Leslie to featured status. I'm just not seeing much range from her. Even in her most prominent sketch on Saturday, the dance party Youtube channel with Rock, she could have taken it so much farther with her physical comedy. Aidy does oversexed big girl, Vanessa does quirky happy lady, Cecily and Kate are fairly versitle but Sasheer seems to be stuck on pretty, valley girl side kick mode. And pretty valley girl just isn't that funny.
  21. I'm binge watched the last few episodes and the reunion. Chrisette is quite the special snowflake, isn't she? Is she an only child? Her recording her conversation with Chante really bothered me. Besides being illegal, what was the point? She said she wanted to play it back to Chante and discuss it with her. But she recorded it after episode 3. Why you just now bringing it up to her at the reunion? So what if she said she was being upstaged by newbies? From Chante's account, it sounds like the initial "mean girls" text and subsequent (recorded) conversation was meant to be a joke. Kind of made me wished she'd played it. Just felt like the girls were instructed to pick on Chante for the drama.
  22. Anyone who watched Tim Gun's show, Under the Gun, would not be surprised of his 'interpretation' of Sandhya's PR experience. He took the same approach of siding with the 'mean girls/boys' against Natalie (I think that was her name) on that show. Natalie was bullied personally and berated for her designs, and Tim Gun joined right along with them.
  23. One of my favorite scenes was where Dre was talking to the teacher about who is best qualified to discuss Harriet Tubman. At one point he says "Because I'm... (points to top of hand) and you're.... (points to palm of the hand)". This had me dying, as it's something my grandmother would do when talking about white folks vs black folks.
  24. The look Mellie and Fitz shared after the park ranger told her the crime was solved.... was everything... that it all.
