From Laurel Brown's site - Arrow is #6 on Tanya's list, #4 on Kyara's list, #1 on Danielle's list, and not on Laurel's list at all... It May Be 2016 But… Here Are the Best Shows of 2015! JAN 1 2016 Laurel Brown http://www.docbrowntv.com/it-may-be-2016-the-best-shows-of-2015/

Then why not just call her Apple.

For non-comics readers, giving Felicity the code name "Oracle" would make no sense. An oracle is someone who gives out prophecies, I believe (like the Oracle of Delphi from Greek mythology). So given a choice between the two, I'd prefer "Overwatch" over "Oracle" because at least it would describe her role on the team better. (I'm assuming the EPs want the code name to make sense to viewers who aren't familiar with DC comics as well.) However, my first choice would be a different name altogether.

Another Laurel Hurley tumblr post (following up on above Laurel articles)... theyarerealtome asks: 100% on board with your goldigger!Laurel. I've always wondered why the middle class Laurel hung out with Starling's billionaires, but with Laurel's driven personality, I can absolutely imagine her pushing to go to the Queen's private school (scholarship, rich grandparents, parent's scrimping?) and climbing up into Starling's elite. It would also add layers to Moira's approval of Oliver/Laurel, maybe she could see some of her ambitious, ruthless self in Laurel, despite her "do-gooder" appearance. ITA. One of the reasons that Felicity really stood out is also one of the reasons why Oliver & Felicity's relationship stood out. EBR adds little extras - not changing or supplementing dialogue, but just physical acting things - that really spark her character. In the same way, SA and EBR add little touches and gestures and looks to their scenes that aren't scripted but that really enhance their interactions.
-
Forgot to add: The above 314 dialogue also seems a little inconsistent with the tie-in comic, Arrow Vol. 1, Chapter 14 ("Call to the Bar"), where Quentin tells young Laurel to protect her younger sister, Sara, because in their family, they protect those who can't protect themselves and then, at the end of that story, they show young Laurel giving food to a homeless guy and looking at a catalog for Starling University's pre-law program.

Following up on the Laura Hurley tumblr posts and the Untitled TV article on Laurel (posted in the Media thread)... CNRI wasn't Laurel's first choice of law job. She first planned to work for a large law firm in San Francisco. I think the EPs' version of Laurel is that Sara's death made her want to save the world, but something changed her and made her give up that dream and go corporate instead, until her father's rant set her straight (see dialogue below from 314-"The Return"). However, they still didn't do a good job of explaining why she would stay with the smarmy, cheating pre-island Ollie. Also, the good girl Laurel did not seem consistent with the snitch sister Laurel who sabotaged her sister's chance with Oliver and then dated him instead. The show has not done a good job of developing a consistent character in Laurel. Laurel: "What are you doing here?" Tommy: "I heard you decided to go corporate in San Francisco instead of saving the world in Starling City." Laurel: "I realized that maybe the world can't be saved." * * * Quentin: "Wow, you really have a thing for these rich bad boys, don't you? I mean, you think maybe, just maybe, one of 'em getting your sister killed would have gotten you cured of that." Laurel: "Dad!" * * * Quentin: "I'm sorry, was I embarrassing you?" Laurel: "No. Yourself." Quentin: "At least I know who I am. And I'm not becoming someone I'm not. Hanging around with billionaire playboys like some kind of gold digger? Taking on a sell out job in San Francisco." Laurel: "Is that what this is about?" Quentin: "When Sara died, you said you wanted to go to law school 'cause you wanted to make the world a better place." Laurel: "Wetherby Posner is one of the most prestigious firms in the country." Quentin: "You said you wanted to help people. All you'd be doing there is helping fat cats get fatter." Laurel: "You know, maybe this sermon would have a little bit more credibility if you weren't so lit right now." Quentin: "Well, I don't need to be sober to see what you're doing with your life. I just wish you could, too." Here's another inconsistency - the above flashback seems to indicate that it was Sara's 'death' on the Gambit that made Laurel decide to become a lawyer and save the world. Yet present-day Sara says to her, "Laurel Lance, always trying to save the world" - which indicates that Laurel was like this before Sara 'died'.

Here's my bitterness for the day... Why is it that the romantic relationship is the only relationship that falls prey to the belief that happiness equals boredom in tv land? The hero's brotherly relationship with his best friend/right arm can remain strong throughout a series without complaint (Oliver/Diggle, Crichton/D'Argo on Farscape, etc.). The hero's father-son like relationship can remain solid throughout a series without complaint (Barry/Joe West). But the idea of the hero's love relationship remaining strong throughout a series seems to trigger the Pavlovian response of 'oh, it'll get boring, let's break them up or create angst'.

From Laura Hurley's tumblr postings... anonymous asks: You've mentioned that you don't enjoy the Laurel Lance character and were put off by her since the beginning. My question is, if you were an Arrow writer, how would you write LL? What background history would you have given her, how would you have made her BC? How would you have written her relationship with Oliver? Dec 29, 2015 6:52 pm http://laurawritesabout.tumblr.com/post/136216829253/youve-mentioned-that-you-dont-enjoy-the-laurel anonymous asks: I've not seen many people present Laurel as a gold-digger pre-Gambit, although I think I can see your point. Would you mind explaining your thought process behind this? Dec 30, 2015 5:27 pm http://laurawritesabout.tumblr.com/post/136282918961/ive-not-seen-many-people-present-laurel-as-a
