  10. Except for the Felicity/Calculator scenes and the Roy/Thea scenes, I really hated didn't enjoy this episode... Loved: -- The Felicity vs. Calculator computer battles were my favorite scenes in this entire episode. And that last scene where Felicity sees her father and goes, "Dad?" was so great. EBR managed to inject such surprise and hopeful disbelief in that one word. -- Felicity's triumphant presentation (after Curtis' pep talk) of Palmer Tech's new battery was great. I liked that Oliver showed up to support her and unknowingly sat next to her father. The previous scene where they showed Felicity all alone after her bungled rehearsal presentation and after the board member told her to get someone else to do the talk because she was in a wheelchair really showed her vulnerability and that she's not totally okay with being paralyzed. -- I was more pleased to see Roy than I expected. The Roy and Thea scenes were so bittersweet and well-acted by both CH and WH. However, it made no sense that Roy would tell Thea he loved her and then take off without knowing if she was going to be okay. And Thea's speech to Roy was too reminiscent of Oliver's speech to Felicity last season. Well, at least, I'm now sure that Thea is not going to be the one in the grave. She'll probably be cured next week. Hated: -- At the top of the episode, Oliver refers to his making back and forth trips to Central City, which means (at least to me) that he's been visiting his secret son and repeatedly lying to Felicity about why he's been making those trips. After that, the episode went downhill (except for the scenes mentioned above). Oliver, you asshole! -- The entire Nyssa/LOA storyline just reminded of the stupidity of last season's Ra's al Ghul storyline: Thea's life is in danger, and Oliver can only save her by making a deal that requires him to challenge Ra's al Ghul.(*) Only this time, Nyssa is playing Malcolm's role, and Malcolm is playing Ra's role. Why doesn't Nyssa just challenge Malcolm herself for the Ra's position?! Oh yeah, right, for the same reason that Malcolm didn't challenge Ra's directly last year. Because for some reason, Oliver is able to defeat Malcolm, Nyssa and the former Ra's on his own - even though he's unable to take down Double Down and Anarky by himself. I expected Malcolm to be manipulative, but I expected Nyssa to be more straightforward. You know, I used to like Nyssa, but now - after blackmailing Oliver to kill Malcolm for her - I just want her off the show. (* Isn't this just so Arrow? Oliver uses the LP to save Thea, she gets blood lust, and he has to pay the price again and again - this time by fighting Malcolm. Meanwhile, Laurel uses the LP to bring Sara back from the dead, Sara gets blood lust, but Oliver gets Constantine to cure her magically. Laurel pays no price and has no consequences.) -- While the Nyssa vs. Tatsu/Katana fight was probably cool from a fan geek perspective, it kinda served no purpose because they ended up talking it out. And what could Nyssa have said to Tatsu to make her give up the magical (and convenient) Lotus?(**) Nyssa: "I need the Lotus to blackmail Oliver into killing Malcolm for me, so that I can become the new Ra's." Tatsu: "Oh, okay then, that's fine. That's worth forsaking my sacred duty to protect the Lotus." We didn't see their conversation because even the writers couldn't come up with believable dialogue. (** We have magical herbs, magical water and now a magical lotus. It's getting even more ridiculous that there isn't a magical something to cure Felicity's paralysis.) -- Ugh! Oliver thanks Malcolm and shakes his hand. This is the guy who's responsible for killing your parents, Sara, and hundreds of other people. What are you thinking? -- Double Ugh! The flashbacks are just as silly as ever. Now we have a Shado Hallucination telling Oliver that he has to give in to his darkness and referring to his love for Taiana (huh?!). If Shado represents Oliver's subconscious, then his love for Taiana is even more unbelievable than the magical lotus - and probably came out of the same left field from whence sprung Slade's love for Shado in season 2. SA and ER have even less chemistry than SA and KC (which I didn't think was possible). And while ER seems like a lovely person in real life, her acting in these flashbacks is atrocious. When Oliver still had the rock that Shado gave him, I realized that maybe she wasn't just a hallucination but something magically conjured up by the mystical powers of the island (Lian Yu is the Lost island?). -- The fight scenes are starting to get repetitive and boring. Sometimes they seem to be included in an episode just to give Bamford something to do each week. Next Week's Preview: -- The preview for 413 just looks like another ridiculous showdown between Oliver and Malcolm, this time orchestrated by Nyssa. We know that none of them is going to die, so what's the point? I mean, Laurel will probably convince Nyssa to give the Lotus to Thea to save her life during their sure-to-be heartwarming scene together. (Oh joy, something else to look forward to next week!) -- I'm more interested in seeing more of Felicity and her father, and how that plays out (like if and when she finds out he's the Calculator, and if and when he finds out she's been his computer adversary). Question: -- I don't recall hearing the dialogue tease that was spoiled by the Arrow Writers Room. Was it even said in 412, and if so, by whom? P.S. There was a point during last night's episode - it was the scene after Arsenal successfully rappelled from the exploding building to the ground, and he then stood there in his masked leather and faced GA, BC and Spartan, all in their masked leather costumes - and I thought, 'this is absolutely ridiculous looking, why am I watching this show?' Of course, then later I watched Felicity's confrontation with her father and thought, 'that's why'.

(ComicBookResources article, page 298 of Social Media thread) -- Pic of ME as Vixen posted. (TVLine article, page 29 of Spoilers thread) -- On Vixen episode, WM: "It will be a standalone, yes. We really needed someone to come in and give Oliver some help with magic. One of the things we’ve been exploring this season is 'How does Oliver deal with magic, specifically with Damien?,' and she comes in for a very high-stakes, amazing episode. She’s done a great job [voicing] the cartoon on CW Seed and she’s a tremendous actor in her own right. We’re really excited." (TVLine article, page 29 of Spoilers thread) -- Per WM, Vixen will appear in an Oliver-centric episode. WM: "She'll play a big part in kinda helping Oliver with a really emotionally wrenching storyline that we're gonna be exploring episode 415." 12. This means that everyone should've known about Superman. So that kinda undermines the whole astonishment at metahumans and Barry's super speed. Also, I hope Oliver acquires magic of some kind in order to level the playing field.

  14. I really want a flashback of child Felicity with her father, but I don't think I'm going to get it.
  15. MG has said that the tie-in comics are part of the show canon, so if you consider both what happened in the comics and what happened on the show, it looks like Laurel and Tommy first hooked up way before she made the decision to stay in Starling City and not take the big law firm job in San Francisco. In Arrow Volume 2, Chapter 26 (Lapse), the following happens: -- The comic panel says "Three Years Ago" (two years after Oliver's "death"). Laurel is at a bar club with a few law school classmates. They're studying and drinking beer. She spots Tommy who's partying loudly at the same bar with his friends. She goes over to him and asks him if they could "dial it down a bit". He tells her that she could loosen up a bit and that it's been "two years since the accident" that killed his best friend and her sister. They argue (she thinks he should've changed after people they both cared about died, he thinks she has a stick up her ass). She leaves. Later that night (he's wearing the same clothes), he shows up at her apartment to apologize. She says that she wants to let go and kisses him. They end up having sex and she says "this can never happen again." -- The comic panel says "Two Years, Eight Months Ago". Laurel shows up at Tommy's door, she says, "This can never...", he says, "Understood," and they have sex again. -- The comic panel says "Two Years Ago", Laurel graduates from law school. Laurel and Tommy have sex again, and she says, "This is the last time." -- The comic panel says "One Year, Nine Months Ago". Laurel and Tommy have sex again, and Tommy says, "I know, last time." -- The comic panel says "One Year, Six Months Ago." Laurel starts working at CNRI. -- The comic panel says "One Year Ago". Tommy and Laurel are sitting in a restaurant. He says, "That's what you said the last time, and the time before that." She says, "I know. But I'm moving on and you're still the same old playboy." -- The comic panel says "Six Months Ago." Tommy is in bed with two unidentified women and hears on the news that Oliver is alive. Laurel is at CNRI and also hears the same news. Then there's a nighttime scene where Tommy and Laurel are walking together. Tommy says that he saw her and Oliver head out. She says that there's nothing between her and Oliver any more. Tommy says that he thought the only thing between her and Oliver was "us". She says that there is no "us". He asks, "Then what would you call it?" She says, "A lapse." He says, "Quite a few lapses. Your place, my place, my place again." She says, "Come on, Merlyn. We both know you're not a one-girl type of guy." He says, "Depends on the girl." -- The comic panel says "Now." Tommy and Laurel are in the kitchen. She asks if the birthday boy is excited for his big dinner. He seems unsure and says that 27 was really good to him. She says that his best friend coming back from the dead is a reason to celebrate. He says it wasn't just Oliver returning from the dead, but "us - after everything that's happened, I didn't think we'd get here." She says, "Well, I'm glad we did." They kiss. In the flashbacks shown in Episode 3.14 (The Return), aired Feb. 2015, which would've taken place during the 3rd year that Oliver was away, the following happens: (Drunk Quentin comes up to Laurel, Tommy and Thea.) Quentin: "I'm sorry, was I embarrassing you?" Laurel: "No. Yourself." Quentin: "At least I know who I am. And I'm not becoming someone I'm not. Hanging around with billionaire playboys like some kind of gold digger? Taking on a sell out job in San Francisco." Laurel: "Is that what this is about?" Quentin: "When Sara died, you said you wanted to go to law school 'cause you wanted to make the world a better place." Laurel: "Wethersby Posner is one of the most prestigious firms in the country." Quentin: "You said you wanted to help people. All you'd be doing there is helping fat cats get fatter." Laurel: "You know, maybe this sermon would have a little bit more credibility if you weren't so lit right now." Quentin: "Well, I don't need to be sober to see what you're doing with your life. I just wish you could, too." * * * (Later) Laurel: "Tommy Merlyn. Are you stalking me?" Tommy: "Just checking on you. Things with your father seemed, uh, they seemed tense. Your roommate told me you were taking a job here. I said that couldn't be true, that you were going to work for a white shoe firm." Laurel: "Ah, I was. And then someone reminded me why I became a lawyer in the first place." Tommy: "You want to tell me about it over dinner? Hey, hey, hey, it is just dinner." Laurel: "How many girls have you used those three little words with?" Tommy: "Those are the only three little words I say." Laurel: "Fine. Just dinner."

  18. I have no idea who would be saying that dialogue tease or to whom. If it's Oliver, it comes off as callous regarding Thea. CW PR should not be calling the new lair "Foundry 2.0". The new Arrowcave is not anywhere near the foundry, but in the basement of Oliver's campaign office building. S1 - Arrowcave is in old QC foundry. S2 - Arrowcave is in old QC foundry, with backup lair in secondary, unidentified location. S3.5 - Arrow(less)cave is in basement of Palmer Tech. S4 - Arrowcave is in basement of Oliver Queen's mayoral campaign headquarters.
  19. SUMMARY OF 412 SPOILERS: S4, Episode 12: Unchained -- Production code: 412. Director: Kevin Fair. Airdate: Feb. 3, 2016. (412 Australian promo video, page 30 of Spoilers thread) -- 412 dialogue tease: "Problem is, I’m a one-patient man - and I’m already committed to you." (ArrowWritersRoom tweet, page 30 of Spoilers thread) -- The Calculator (TA) uses his advanced skills in computer science and internet manipulation to blackmail Roy (CH) out of retirement to do his bidding, which leads to an epic battle with Team Arrow. He is set to appear in two episodes, beginning with 412. (TVLine article, page 26 of Spoilers thread) -- On whether the Calculator is Felicity's father, WM: "“Definitely tune in... We are very excited about this character. He does have a connection to Felicity. We’re just really thrilled. Tom Amandes has been amazing in the role and is bringing a lot of kindness and a lot of malice to this character.” (EW article, page 29 of Spoilers thread) -- Roy will only be in one episode (412). He'll have scenes with the whole cast and with Thea. (MG tumblr posts, page 26 of Spoilers thread) -- On Roy's return, WM: “Whenever we bring people back, we always have a very specific character reason in mind... He’s going to have a really cool and emotional story with Oliver and Thea.” On the Calculator, WM: "There’s a connection there... It may not be what people are thinking, but there’s definitely a connection.” (TVLine article, page 30 of Spoilers thread) -- WM: “The real impetus is that we wanted to see where he’s landed, what has happened to him... And when we find him, just like Oliver in 410, we find him slipping back into some old habits, but with some surprising reasons for why he’s doing what he’s doing.” (Variety article, page 29 of Spoilers thread) -- WM: "Roy will be coming back to the show in a very surprising way. He'll be, like Oliver, sort of falling back into some old habits. We just actually cut that episode and there's a scene between him and Thea that will hopefully make everybody cry, it's just amazing. Colton and Willa [Holland] are just gangbusters together onscreen." (ComicBookResources article, page 29 of Spoilers thread) -- On Roy's return in 412, CH: “It's really exciting, it's also really sad towards the end. Something really sad happens... You get to see Roy just be super ecstatic. Not kind of moany-groany like he used to be. He's super stoked to be back in the fold. He's getting the hang of things again, kind of picking up pretty quickly. He's just really happy to be there and actually to work with Oliver and work with the team again. It fits in so cohesively, the way they've written the storyline, and it's just going to make fans excited.” Per CH, the “sad” thing has to do with love and relationships. (IGN article, page 30 of Spoilers thread) -- CH: “I come back to help the whole entire team and it's great because he really takes charge. It's not just following what everyone else is saying. He really does take charge and do things on his own, which is really cool, which is what he wanted from the get-go. They trust him." (IGN article, page 30 of Spoilers thread) -- Per CH, he’s “positive” that we’ll see more Roy down the line, and he hopes that he’ll show up at least once more before the end of the current season. (IGN article, page 30 of Spoilers thread) -- Nyssa (KL) will be in 412. (TVLine article, page 29 of Spoilers thread) -- Per WM, Nyssa “is going to take on Malcolm in a really ambitious and full-scale way, and she’s going to be asking Oliver to do some pretty dark things." Also, the topic of Nyssa’s onetime lover Sara’s recent resurrection won’t come up in the “gangbusters” episode - partly because “she is off time traveling on Legends.” (TVLine article, page 29 of Spoilers thread) -- Per KL, Nyssa makes her move against Malcolm this week, and her revenge mission is partially motivated by what Malcolm did to Sara. KL: "I think that was the final straw. The League of Assassins and the way it was being run by her father over the years had become increasingly more dark and sinister the more he used the pit. And then between trying to destroy Starling City and eventually bringing back Sara from the dead, knowing she would never be the same person and sort of damning her soul forever, not knowing that there was a Constantine out there. I think that was the final straw for Nyssa - that abuse of power the League of Assassins seemed to be having within itself and then amongst the world. I think with the instruction of Sara Lance a few years ago, her outlook started changing and her perception of the League of Assassins' role in the world started to becoming more and more negative." (TV Guide article, page 30 of Spoilers thread) -- On how Nyssa will attempt to take down Malcolm, KL: "There will be epic fight scenes, for sure. But she needs to go on a little bit of a journey before she actually runs into Malcolm and confronts him. There are a couple things she needs to do along the way and I think the audience will be shocked and a little confused. She has a confrontation with Tatsu. They have a great fight scene, so I'm excited for that. But yeah, lots of fighting and lots of manipulation. We'll see if she eventually gets what she wants." (TV Guide article, page 30 of Spoilers thread) -- Per KL, we'll find out in 412 if there's anyone in the LOA who's still loyal to Nyssa and how that affects her journey. (TV Guide article, page 30 of Spoilers thread) -- On how Oliver or TA become involved in Nyssa's plan, KL: "They are completely immersed into her plan. Whether or not they are willingly immersed into it or just being forced into becoming part of her plan is yet to be seen. But they are definitely very much integral in her plan to become Ra's al Ghul." (TV Guide article, page 30 of Spoilers thread) -- On how Nyssa would be a different Ra's al Ghul, if she became the new Ra's, KL: "I think the introduction of Sara Lance into her life, and then eventually Laurel Lance (Katie Cassidy), it just brought an aspect of compassion out of Nyssa that had never been nurtured before, nor encouraged by her father or any member of the League of Assassins. I think finding love and learning about the different shades of black and grey and white in the world, and that everything isn't right or wrong, do or die. I think that she'd become a more compassionate leader. I think she would definitely lead by example. I don't think that she would do the initiation process of destroying the city that she came from, which, ironically, is Nanda Parbat. I don't think that she would necessarily stick to a lot of traditions of the League of Assassins. I think she would go out and forge her own." (TV Guide article, page 30 of Spoilers thread) -- KL: "I hardly have any scenes with John. I'm in pursuit of him. Barrowman is on my mind. Most of my scenes are about trying to get to him. You'll see what she goes through to accomplish that. Nyssa does eventually reunite with Team Arrow in a very unexpected way. Again, it will be interesting to see how people react to her once she reunites with them." (ComicBookResources article, page 30 of Spoilers thread) -- KL: "Pretty much up until this point, she's been locked in a dungeon and plotting how to get out and how to kill Malcolm Merlyn. Vengeance is very much in the forefront of her mind and ambition. But there's a beautiful and very interesting respect that Malcolm and Nyssa have for each other. Even though they are now sworn enemies and rivals -- and Malcolm knows that Nyssa is very much in pursuit of the title, and that at any moment she could strike -- because of their shared history, Nyssa won't strike him when his back is turned. And he doesn't try and kill her when she's sleeping in the dungeon. Watching the next couple of episodes will be a lot of fun." (ComicBookResources article, page 30 of Spoilers thread) -- KL: "Between Laurel and Nyssa, the two of those girls have such an amazing relationship. It's complicated, based on loss, friendship, regrets and love. I do have a beautiful scene with Laurel. The two work wonderfully off of each other, but there's so many layers to it. The way the writers crafted that scene is quite spectacular." (ComicBookResources article, page 30 of Spoilers thread) -- On how much we'll get to see Nyssa and Laurel together over the next two episodes (412 and 413), KL: " I think it's next episode, Katie Cassidy and I have a wonderful scene together. ... It's a very beautiful, sad and yet intimidating scene. I'm really excited for fans to see it and to see what the fan reaction is." (TV Guide article, page 30 of Spoilers thread) -- Katana’s next appearance promises to be “surprising.” WM: "We loved that Tatsu last season kind of evolved into [Katana], so we’re really excited about her return. It was great to have Rila [Fukushima] back and to see that character again, but it’ll be kind of a new, surprising way that we do it.” (TVLine article, page 30 of Spoilers thread) Episode 412 or 413 -- On Nyssa making her move in an upcoming episode, WM: "Nyssa has had a long-standing feud with Malcolm (John Barrowman) definitely since episode 403, but it also predates that. She’s going to be basically putting a knife in Malcolm’s back for the rest of the season, and really changing the nature and the context of the League of Assassins as a result." 20. FYI, the Arrow S1 tie-in comics provided more information on the development of Laurel & Tommy's relationship during the five years while Oliver was away... Two years after the Queen's Gambit sinking and Oliver's "death", Laurel ran into Tommy at a bar and they ended up having sex. They continued to have off and on sex for the next three years, and finally ended up an official couple sometime after Oliver's return, by Tommy's 28th birthday.

  23. Sorry, guys, but I still don't think it's Laurel in the grave. Even if KC wanted to leave the show, I think they'd just have Laurel leave Star City and keep the door open for return appearances. However, if a big screen movie of the Black Canary is planned, then I could see them killing off Laurel. Laurel has as much storyline in 4B as anyone else not named Oliver (conflict between being BC and ADA, having a big role in taking down Darhk). And for S5, the EPs are going to have to come up with new storylines for everyone. Laurel having the goodbye scenes with Sara on Arrow and LoT could've been more about giving KC more screen time and exposure than anything else. She is still the second billed actor on Arrow and her character is a costumed comic superhero - unlike Lance - and these EPs are all about the costumes. So I would still be shocked if Laurel is the one who dies.
