  1. I think the color on Erica's dress would have looked better if the sheer material was white (and then left the gloves off). I honestly can't decide between Lily Gladstone and Emma Stone. They are both so good.
  2. I know it won't happen, but I have my reasons for hoping that Barbie upsets one of the categories tonight. What channel does do you all like for the red carpet arrivals?
  3. I'll jump in from time to time for the red carpet, but we have company coming for the ceremony.
  4. This is exactly how I felt about it. I can appreciate the set design and costumes, hair and make up and cinematography, but it was a bit too stylized and avante guarde for my taste. Emma Stone was mesmerizing, though.
  5. My daughter was diagnosed with diabetes last year. She doesn't used either of these drugs, but when I heard about this, I wondered if there would be an issue with runningout of stock. I know weight loss is a difficult thing for some people, especially when genetics is involved, but I was able to lose a lot of weight and only put 10lbs back on, by eating less, which involved reading labels for serving size and calorie count, and exercising. I know it's hard and takes a lot of time, but I maintain that it's the best way to go.
  6. I think the one I hate the most is when one character refuses to tell their spouse/partner/friend/parent the whole story of what's happening with them (or tell them anything at all) and it makes for, at best, a lot of confusion and, at worst, a lot of anger between the characters.
  7. I liked reading this first one. He wasn't snarky and, unless I overlooked something as I was skimming through it, it sounds like he watched and finished all of the nominated shows.
  8. This is so cute: Hannah Waddingham carried the bag her 9 year old daughter made her to the SAG Awards.
  9. I watched Zone of Interest and Anatomy of a Fall yesterday. Both of them were slow, but I expected that. Zone of Interest was a very simple story. There was no real conflict among the members of the family, so it was simply watching a normal family work on their house and gardens, watching the kids play and learning about the husband's job and an argument or two. There was nothing really new--we all know about the Holocaust and we all know that most Germans shrugged it off and went on with their daily lives like nothing happened. Putting aside the basic story, the film is a work of art. The directing choices, the cinematography, the symbolism, the set design--all of it was beautiful. They used small things to make their point about how awful it was: The looting-they'd take things from the Jewish prisoners for themselves, how the kids played with their soldiers, people closing the windows during the times they were burning the bodies, etc. It was all very matter of fact--just a way of life during that time. The best part, though, in regards to the film making, imo, was the juxtaposition of seeing the beauty of the home and gardens and surrounding areas, and what we were hearing. The sound effects and score were used to good effect. Anatomy of a Fall was more interesting, but still not very exciting. It was really well done, but was simply a movie that brought you through a court case from the death, through the investigation, the trial and a verdict. There was no surprise ending or twist. It's pretty much what the title says it is.
  10. I don't think Marvel's problem is "superhero fatigue ". I think that if Marvel had maintained the same quality of writing and world building that they were doing in the first 10 years, they'd still be going strong. I know I'd be still buying advanced tickets to see the latest movie on opening weekend if that were the case.
  11. I really enjoyed it. I heard it called "outrageously funny" and I, personally, wouldn't go that far--I thought it was more serious with some funny moments.
  12. As someone who grew up in a small town, the only time I saw worship of kids was if they were really good at sports. I mean, so good that everyone was convinced that they were going to make it big* in whatever sport they were good at. In our town, it was the boys from one family and their game was baseball. It was maddening, but it still wasn't quit up to "Rory" level worship. *It did finally happen: my classmate's son is in pro-baseball now and was instrumental in them winning a big game last year. That's great for him, but you'd think he and his father, uncles and cousins were the only kids in town.
  13. High school labs have all kinds of chemicals and a lot of scientific equipment.
  14. I was really ticked at the entire town in Gilmore Girls for being angry about not being able to go to Rory's graduation even after Lorelai told them they only get so many tickets. Then to be angry that the ridiculous party they planned without even listening to Lorelai was going to be canceled because-wait for it-Rory got an amazing job offer and needed to leave in 2 days. *gasp* How dare she?! 🙄 It's a small (totally unrealistic) town, so I get the disappointment, but come on.
  15. I'm going to try to watch as many academy nominated films that I can before the show. This past week I watched: May December: Ugh. Sorry,I thought it was boring and the only nomination I could have gotten behind would have been Julianne Moore. Nyad: Very interesting and intense at times. It got a little old after a while and it's not a fast paced movie, but I liked seeing how they dealt with the problems she encountered in her first 4 attempts. I really don't know why anyone would put their mind and body through that, though. Annette Benning and Jodie Foster were really good. Flamin' Hot: It was cute American Fiction: It was great. I'd seen it described as "outrageously funny", but I don't agree with that. I thought it was more of drama with some funny moments. Great acting by all.
  16. I'm rewatching Criminal Minds (skipping the occasional episode for various reasons) and I'm wondering around what season people think it becomes torture porn? Because there are several episodes in the first three seasons that I thought were really horrible in regards to the kinds of way the unsub was killing/raping/torturing their victims. One of the reasons I skip the occasional episode is because I can't stomach it again. I finally finished Gilmore Girls. That last season was a slog. It took me two days to get through the first episode of A Year in the Life. Was them forgetting about Rory's boyfriend (including Rory) supposed to be funny? Because I thought it was awful. I tried the first episode of Northern Exposure and it really didn't grab me. The only character I really liked was the young assistant in the doctor's office. I may try another episode or two, though, because I know it can take a series time to get it's footing. I did, however, watch the first two episodes of Lie to Me and really liked them. I'm going to keep watching that one.
  17. Logan in Gilmore Girls thinking that it was a good idea to ask Rory to marry him during a party at her grandparents house. I like the guy, overall, but that was dumb move.
  18. I'm on the final season and have 3 (maybe 4) episodes left. Emily did have some episodes where I thought she was about to start changing for the better, then she reverted back to her old self. I forgot another reason I opened this topic: Because I didn't watch these shows, I have no idea if my opinions on them or their characters and story lines are unpopular or not. So, speaking of GG, I really like Logan. He still has some issues to work on, for sure, but overall, I think he and Rory have been good for each other. He's matured (and still is maturing) with her and she's starting to stand up for herself a bit more.
  19. I haven't seen most of the movies, but plan on watching as many as I can between now and show day. I was surprised and disappointed that Robbie and Gerwig didn't get nominated, but I told my husband last night exactly what @FilmTVGeek80 said: I can't get totally behind outrage because of the nominations it did get. @slowpoked after I saw Oppenheimer, I went online to read the reactions to it and was surprised that, at the time, no one was talking about Emily Blunt's performance and mentioned in its movie thread that I thought she would be a strong contender for nominations this year. I'm happy to see it.
  20. I've never truly binged a show, but Call the Midwife the one that I went through the fasted. I can't believe it hasn't been nominated for Emmys. Between the acting and the writing, it's a beautiful and at times, heartbreaking show. I like Criminal Minds because it's one of the few shows where I've liked all of the characters through all of the seasons. Some more than others, but they've all worked for me. I also liked the balance of the characters' personal lives vs. what the show is supposed to be about-crime solving. I really don't know what to say about The Gilmore Girls. I've had to take breaks from it for several days at a time because it was getting tough to get through. I mean, why hasn't Emily shown any growth? Richard show has some growth. Even Mrs. Kim, who I never really liked, show has shown some growth. And what does Lane, of all people, see in Zach? Yes, he's turned out to be really sweet, but I've never found them believable beyond her having a crush on him, but not lasting beyond a few dates. I'm not even going to talk about them having sex only once, her thinking it was horrible and that everyone lied to her, and then not really being able to learn more about that before getting pregnant with twins.
  21. I've started watching older shows that I missed the first time around for whatever reason and have occasionally wanted to remark on them, but the forums are either very slow, or I don't care to comment enough to start long discussions in them. I thought this could be a thread where we can jump in and comment/discuss certain story lines, characters, specific shows, etc. So far, I've finished Veronica Mars, am 6 episodes away from finishing Gilmore Girls and am still plugging away at NCIS. During quarantine, I started and finished Criminal Minds and have started re-watching the first seasons. I'm thinking of starting Northern Exposure next. I've thought of making this thread a few times over the past couple of months, but finally decided to start it because I wanted to note that now, in season 11 of NCIS, I'm finally enjoying the show. Before I was hanging in there because my husband really likes it, so I'm watching it with him and I don't hate it, I just don't get the hype. I haven't found Tony as annoying this season, so far, anyway, and I really liked Ellie from the minute she was introduced. Please don't tell me she turns into a horrible character--if she does, I'll watch it unfold in real time. I did like Ziva, but I'm not missing her as much as I thought I would.
  22. Yes. I love Paul Rudd and think that he's aging pretty well, but I don't get those memes, either. He's definitely, and quite obviously, aging.
  23. I saw this today and really loved it, too. I went to the 10:30am showing, so there were only a few of us there, but hopefully, it's getting more love at the later shows. I also thought the acting and directing was really good. It's visually beautiful , too.
  24. Don't pilots on private planes have to submit a flight plan?
