  1. I haven't watched the whole episode, but I watched the first case. I so wish Mommy had brought in her precious snowflake instead of the other daughter. I suspect MM would've had a field day with that entitled brat. At 22, she should be throwing her own parties, or the boyfriend should have thrown it. That's not a milestone birthday. Hell, by 22 I'd already served in a freaking war and gotten engaged! I can't imagine my mother throwing me a birthday bash at that age. Of course, I've never understood why people make a big deal about birthdays. I don't even take off work for mine, so I don't get it. Now that I'm teaching for a living, I can't even say I'm surprised by the case or the petulant daughter's behavior. There are still a lot of good kids out there, but many of them are entitled and overly coddled. You should hear the way they talk to their parents, in addition to how they talk to us. It sucks that the cake was wrong, but the second the daughter showed her ass, Mommy should have laid into her and told her not to let something so silly ruin her party. I think the fight with the boyfriend was the cause for the party drama anyway.
  2. For a game I thought was relatively easy, they had a lot of TS. I ran the DH category and did really well in all the others too. They also were nice enough to give me a category about baseball, which I found really easy. It seemed like the three contestants had the same knowledge gaps, which made for a game that went quickly but wasn't particularly interesting to watch. ETA: I even did well in th French occupations category, and I know very little French and usually roll my eyes when another French category comes up.
  3. It's common knowledge (at least in Philly) that you don't leave your stuff in the car when it goes to the tow yard. There won't be much left in it when you get back. I don't know if that's the case in any other city. If you think that's bad, I was the only one in the chain reaction accident who had insurance, so everyone sued me. So in addition to getting hurt, having my car stripped, and having my car totaled, I had the joy of going into the city at least a half a dozen times to fight various lawsuits. (I was hit from behind and was pushed into a car in front of me, which was pushed in to another, etc.) The jerkwad who hit me had no license or insurance; neither drivers of the two other cars were insured. So they all sued me. They all lost, but it was a tremendous inconvenience for me. ETA: New episode today? I can't wait to get home. It's been forever!
  4. I am ridiculously excited for this episode. I think JLD is one of the best comedic actresses ever. Veep is one of my favorite shows, and I still watch reruns of Old Christine and Seinfeld fairly regularly. I can't remember the last time I was this excited about an SNL episode.
  5. OMG. No one is saying it's not murder. Good grief. I don't know how anyone could think she wasn't abused, but unfortunately people who are often aren't believed. She seemed like a classic case to me, minus her killing him in the end. Most of us suffer in silence or finally get up the courage to leave.
  6. What pissed me off was hearing their gay son lament that he never had time to fully reconnect with his mother because that jackass took it away from him. Once again, a super conservative, so-called religious person has a problem with gay people but has no problem pursuing another woman and soliciting sex outside of marriage. The hypocrisy pisses me off so much. My parents didn't speak to me for months after I came out. I'm glad we did get the chance to repair our relationship. Later in life I found out my father had numerous affairs behind my mother's back. Yet my sexuality was a problem for him because of our religion. Whatever. Anyway, my heart breaks for their son, and I hope he never gives his father the forgiveness he seeks. Fuck that guy.
  7. They may need to replace that first position buzzer after that game. Maybe he couldn't ring in because he broke the damn thing! I'm a huge sports fan, so FJ was an instaget for me. I wished it were harder, because baseball trivia is my favorite. I hate the Yankees, so I wonder if I'd have been judged incorrect for writing, "Who are the stupid Yankees?"
  8. Talk about a sentence I never thought I'd read. It's hard enough for me to get up the energy to vacuum the carpeted areas of my house. No way am I vacuuming my bed too! I remember this case from the first time it aired. It was nice to see a towing case in which the plaintiff was actually wrong. It was also nice to see one of those slimy tow drivers lose. As much as I dislike them, they're usually within their rights to tow. My hatred of towing companies goes back to a car accident I had in Philly in 1999. My car wasn't driveable and got towed. Since I was taken away by ambulance, I didn't get to take my possessions out of my car. At the tow yard, they robbed me blind. They took everything from my car that wasn't attached to it: my laptop, CDs, travel mug, even the change that was in the change compartment. I ended up having to file a claim with my homeowners insurance to get reimbursed for all the things that had been stolen, minus my deductible of course. Freaking assholes. Every time one of them shows up in a court case, I root against them.
  9. My guess is that it wasn't exclusive enough for him. He still had a chance of running into a "redneck." I don't remember my 40th, but that's because my brother and sister-in-law held a party for me at their bar/restaurant and offered free food & drinks for everyone. I'm sure I had a blast, based on the pictures I've seen, but I don't remember a single thing from that night. I've never heard of this expression, either. Now that I know it, I hope it comes up on Jeopardy. They're good at asking about expressions I've never heard of.
  10. Thanks for the warning; I can't wait to miss it.
  11. Thanks for the response. It seems like that was quite a while ago.
  12. I wasn't a fan of the last episode, but I laughed when I saw these two posts back-to-back. For me, my problem with the show is that it's taken on a tell me don't show me approach. There is too much of the characters sitting around talking about an issue. Yes, there was some of that in Season 1, but the characters also went and did things, like going to the protest, which is still one of my favorite episodes. Now there's very little action and mostly just them sitting around and being told by Jerrod what they should think. I'm trying hard to support this show, but it just isn't working for me.
  13. I prefer Bud Lite Lime and Mich Ultra with Lime, but that's because I'm fancy like that. (Or it may be because I'm too lazy to cut up my own damn limes.) I hardly ever get to watch JJ anymore now that I'm teaching high school at night. By the time I get home I'm so fed up with my students' bullshit I don't have the stomach for JJ's litigants' bullshit. Sadly, I'm pretty sure I'll be seeing some of my students on JJ in the near future since most of them have the backgrounds and decision-making skills we see so much on the show. I try to binge JJ on Saturdays, but so far I haven't read much here that makes me think I've missed anything. I have about 40 episodes on my DVR. The People's Court, my other favorite court show, has been in reruns forever, so I'm really suffering!
  14. I was rooting for Sabrina because, although she started at the bottom, she was a strong contestant and quick at picking clues. I thought it was a good game overall. I got darjeeling and was surprised Sabrina missed it. I also got white beans, which especially seemed obvious after someone guessed wrong with green beans. I'm not into astronomy but did get FJ as an educated guess. I'm trying to remember who the last five-time champ we've had was, and my mind is failing me. Anyone else know? It seems like we've had quite a few multi-day champs and high-winning champs but very few five timers so far this season, but I could be wrong.
  15. I agree with you on all fronts; I just don't like the way the case was handled at all. I think she let her annoyance at the plaintiff for getting his friends to leave negative reviews cloud her judgment on the case. It sounds to me like the defendant was dodging the plaintiff until the warranty expired so he would have a defense for not fixing it.
  16. At least it wasn't beer. (JK; I actually like BL but couldn't resist.) I'm so confused about the schedule. Some nights I seem to get new episodes and some nights there are repeats. I've got a DVR clearing party scheduled for Saturday, but based on all of your comments, I may just hit "delete" and be done with it!
  17. It seems like you're trying to simplify what is a complicated issue. If she was, in fact, abused, and a lot of people here including me think she was, it's much more complicated than her just ambushing him. When one is terrified of another and finally snaps, that can manifest itself in many ways. One of those ways may be in an ambush, but the root cause of it is still the abuse. If you ever saw The Burning Bed that's what I'm talking about. Yes, the husband was asleep at the time she killed him, and some might say why didn't she just leave. It's just not that simple.
  18. Thank you so much for posting this. I get really angry when I see people blame victims of abuse for not "just" leaving. It's not even remotely that simple. I was in a very abusive lesbian relationship for five years. Now, I'm a tough Army vet who can kick almost anyone's ass, but I'm not violent. So I wasn't used to hitting people out of anger. That was how she handled everything. Before I knew it, she had me convinced I was worthless and unlovable and had completely alienated me from my family. One day I finally got up the nerve to tell my older sister what was really happening behind closed doors (no one who knew us knew it was going on.) My sister told me the next time my girlfriend puts my hands on her I should kick her ass. I don't know why I'd never told myself this, but my sister somehow giving me permission to defend myself clicked with me. Sure enough, the next time that horrible woman put her hands on me, I laid her ass out. Then I threw her out of my house. I say all of that to say this: you don't know what's happening behind closed doors, and it's not just as simple as "leave." Disclaimer: I'm not saying she should have killed him. I can't support that. But I understand.
  19. I caught the pec thing too. It turned me off of Milton immediately.
  20. I consider myself pretty good at state capitals, at least I used to be before I turned 40. Yet I still shouted, "Anchorage" with full confidence. Yep, I know the capital of Alaska is Juneau. But by this time I was halfway into my third Moscow Mule. I'd like to think I'd have gotten it correct with more sobriety.
  21. It never ceases to amaze me what passes for "attractive" in our society! I notice it with women moreso than men. If a woman has blonde hair and blue eyes, she is inevitably described as attractive. I have no idea why that is. Are there attractive blondes? Sure. Are all blondes attractive? Hell no. And the media rarely describes an African-American woman as attractive, I've noticed. That's the intrinsic racism we have in our society. That being said, I've NEVER thought MF (ha!) was attractive and wouldn't even if he weren't a racist POS who contributed to the prosecution losing its case. Someone upthread mentioned what a good writer he is. I'll never know because that guy would never get a dime of my money. I won't argue the merits of this case because I'd rather just talk about how brilliant the actors are and how fascinating the show is to watch. I went into this one with much trepidation but am so glad I took Entertainment Weekly's advice and watched this. Sometimes it pisses me off; sometimes it makes me laugh; sometimes it makes me cry. I couldn't ask for more in a show, and I'll truly miss this when it ends.
  22. I got Richmond, ballistic, Kim Campbell, pantheism, Booker, and tobacco. I liked the words that should rhyme category and got 4 of 5. I also got FJ. What a fun game to watch. It went quickly, boards were cleared, and clues were picked almost in order. I like the new champ but would've been fine with any of them winning.
  23. I agree. I like that he didn't get a new girlfriend right away. That wouldn't have been realistic to me. I have that Cars song still stuck in my head. It replaced Oye Como Va, which was stuck from when I watched Black-ish the night before. Now I need another old song to take its place.
  24. Yes to all of this. I thought for sure she was going to ask for a raise or a loan or something. At my last job they hired a receptionist who was a Hispanic woman in her early 20s. She and I were the only people of color in the company, so we became pretty fast friends. She didn't braid my hair while I was naked in my damn tub, but we hung out once a week outside of work. She started to make comments about my Amazon packages that came to the office, my new car, my having a nice house, all that stuff, and comparing my situation to hers. I finally had to tell her that I live the way I do because of education and experience. I also shared with her that in my 20s I struggled too. I don't know why but a lot of young people I meet don't understand the concept of working your way up. Anyway, as usual this episode spoke to me. It did sound harsh at first, but he's right. You can be successful without finishing school, but it's even more work. I like that he was real with her about it.
  25. That's how I knew it, too. I guessed Y2K for FJ. When Alex said the correct answer isn't the obvious one, I thought he meant that Y2K was wrong. Chernobyl never even crossed my mind. I felt pretty good about my game yesterday until FJ. I got most of the TS's, not that I can remember them now. I'm an Army vet, so the NATO category was easy for me. I really liked the movie category. Oh, yeah, I got Seven, which I think was a TS. All in all, it was a pleasant game to watch without excessive jumping.
