House Hunters International - General Discussion
mojito replied to formerlyfreedom's topic in House Hunters International
San Diego to Sunshine Coast I didn't get the impression that this mother-daughter duo had just arrived in Australia. When the mother said "drug store" the daughter said she thought they called it a "chemist" here. I thought that was a clumsy way to make us think they were newly arrived in Australia. But the daughter's accent said otherwise. I know from experience that, when immersed in a culture, one can absorb somewhat of the local accent fairly quickly. (Meanwhile, you can have someone who has lived in the US from another country and they never lose their accent.) That said, it wouldn't surprise me to learn that Australians who hear the daughter speak roll their eyes because they know she's trying hard to sound like a native. For me, the mother was a little cultish and new agey and the daughter put on an innocent, starry-eyed act. My bullshit alarm kept going off. I suspect a seedy backstory. -
I agree, there's plenty more story in these characters. We all have twists and turns in our lives, and interests that might surprise other.s. Plenty of fodder for future plots. New pairings of the characters could be interesting, too, as we (and they) learn of mutual interests. Isaac and Sass could suddenly find themselves hooked on tennis (even for totally different reasons like athleticism for one and emphasis on manners for the other); Hetty and Thor could be a good team at charades, etc., or could have fun catching up on pop culture together. I still think that the discovery of a literal Underground Railroad tunnel leaves the door open for inter-ghostal visitation between two or three homes. I would love to allow the Mrs. Farnsby (the ghostly one) to mingle, too.

@Tipsymcstagger, I'm sure some would say that the writing was brilliant because it strung audiences along, but throughout, I felt that the convoluted telling of the story was merely trying to manipulate the audience, and this is one reason that I have major doubts that I will follow up. At one point, I found myself wondering if the truth was embellished for entertainment's sake. I don't even trust this content as factual.

I'm still wondering how I even stumbled on this show as I haven't watched ID in years. This show has left me with some pretty dark thoughts and conclusions: To whom did Natalia's mother think she was turning her daughter over? Did she sell her into prostitution from the start? What's the story on the "agency" that made this adoption happen? I cannot stop thinking about how Michael deserves to be in the slammer and treated like the bitch that he is. Maybe one of the younger boys will sell his story to ID in a few years, and somehow put Michael and Kristina through the court system again. What's up with Michael's wife? Who would marry such a sorry excuse for a human being? He's a drama queen with no balls. Who needs that? Anyone else suspect that he has some major sexual dysfunction issues? When the neighbors discussed Natalia coming into their homes and going into their refrigerators looking for food, all I could think of was that she sounded like a raccoon. Is anyone else unsure whether or not they could gather up enough interest to watch the continuation of this story?

Gouda, The Netherlands Bad place for babies. "Three months later" and the baby didn't grow at all. Those people don't even know how to pronounce the name of their city! How has this gone on for so long?! If your agent has to ask you about how large a turkey is, it's a good bet that it won't be easy to find one there. -
We saw Sam's mother getting sucked off, didn't we? I suspect that like us, and like TV "experts" on the subject, the reasons someone gets sucked off (if you even believe in heaven) are unknown. Even the ghosts are only guessing. I would think Isaac would want to purchase a few TVs with part of his money. I don't care who gets sucked off (if anyone actually has), as long as the show remains as entertaining as it is. Change can be good. And if it's not, that's the way TV goes. Probably by next season, people begin complaining about how stale the show has gotten.

I based my opinion on this, which is as revealing as most people get, and also shows the area where body builders usually look the most freakish. -

I didn't care much for the photo, but I greatly appreciated that unflexed and in normal clothes with normal skin coloring, she looked just like any other slender woman. Body builders often look pretty freakish in their civvies. -

To be such a fitness buff, I would think that she wouldn't mind taking the dogs out for a walk once or twice a day. -
I can't imagine being so desperate for a place to live, and being so tied to a region, that you'd pay that kind of money, which could buy you a very nice home most places in the US, and have to deal with the stench of pigs.

Tea drinker here. But as a ghost who can smell but not taste, I'd be all for a coffee klatch instead. Coffee smells great, and the history and culture surrounding coffee is more interesting (I've watched a couple coffee documentaries). I write this as one who has never taken more than maybe 6 sips of coffee in my entire life. Just want to add something about broadcasting. In the 1930s, radio broadcasts had a surprising reach throughout the US. Even the Waltons had one up on the mountain. Hetty's family had one of the first telephones; you can be sure the home had a radio, too, in the 1920s. I doubt that anyone in the Hudson Valley was cut off from the world.

I'm gonna miss Yenko. 😔 At least he got in some of the last words.

May 4, 2023 : S2E1 Cramped home in Huntington Beach (I think) with a backyard right (mostly a patio) next to a seemingly busy street. What looked like vinyl floors. Main bath looked like a second bath in any ordinary home built in the late 1970s. Someone paid $1.1 M for that dinky place. Unbelievable.

Then you must love it when English-only speakers mispronounce Tijuana, which they almost always do? Even people who studied Spanish will look at the word and say it incorrectly. Porto's got nothing on Tia Juana. 😏 They don't really care. They're just killing time with the fake scenarios. Originality is not their priority. They just want to keep cranking out these episodes. They know people will tune in anyway. -
I liked the show, but I can see that it may have run its course. I do appreciate shows that run a compelling story for a short season, and then end. If this gets a second season, I will check it out.

Didn’t Brandy say that the lamp looked wobbly so it caught her eye? I liked the suddenness do the proposal and marriage. A nice surprise because the show was considerate enough to not keep us abreast of every aspect of their relationship. I liked how Rodriquez and Rankin bit their tongues with Yenko. The man just needs to be paid attention to once in a while. I like the character of Rankin because he’s so flawed. And I like the way Rodriquez reacts to him. Looks like I like a lot of things.

Did anyone else expect the groom to look like Shrek?

I have never said, "Oh, HAIL no" aloud so many times watching HH as when I saw the flora of Callawassie. It is really pretty, but along with that flora comes some fauna I could do without. Birds are probably nice, but I'd have a hard time focusing on them as I worry about slithering and stalking critters. It's a special kind of person who finds swampland in the southeast appealing.

I thought Yenko also sympathized with the woman, like maybe he suspected that she had stuff going on in her head, much like his wife did. Also, he had to be flattered by her attention, too.

Maine to France Nice to see a HH who doesn't want to be in the city center, in a walkable area, close to bars and shops. The homes were interesting; I would've chosen the one they did. Interesting arrangement this couple has come up with. It's nice that they're following different paths for awhile. I liked what she said about how the kids aren't going to be raised in the house and that it's not often that they'll all be visiting at once, so a third or fourth bedroom was not a necessity. I liked the agent's excitement at finding a large mushroom. ("Anyway, sorry. I'm Stella.") I worry, though, where the wife is going to craft or set up her vlogging studio or install her gym. 😏 -
They want to appeal to a certain demographics, and apparently, that demographic includes people who would rather not think and need everything to be obvious or explained to them. Subtlety, irony, dry wit is lost on them. They take things literally. My eyes roll whenever I see a poster write something like, "Are we supposed to think/believe that..." Some people are uncomfortable with thinking or interpreting for themselves, forming their own conclusions. They need their thoughts confirmed by others. Fortunately, there are alternatives to US network TV where shows have a limited season and viewers get quality rather than quantity. We could use more channels like Acorn where good shows can go to be watched by a more appreciating audience. Whoops. 😮 Fell off my soapbox. I wonder if shows like Alaska daily consider it a major coup to be picked up by ABC as opposed to a channel like HBOMax, where they might have a better chance to thrive?

He was my main reason for tuning in, and now he and the Regina and Morales characters are my reasons for staying. In another world, the latter two could've been Cagney and Lacey 2.0. They don't exchange a lot of words, but they seem to understand each other well.
