  1. Yikes. Hopefully, she didn't get into too much debt.
  2. Lately, I've been barely watching HH or HHI. From time-to-time in the past, I have quit watching for months at a time. So sick of hearing the same descriptors and phrases: "I'm not a fan of" [you're not allowed to say "I don't like"], "deal breaker", "wow factor", "modern farmhouse" [vertical, wide, and almost always white board and batten siding and 2 stories seem to do the trick], "outdated" [not the latest soon-to-be-outdated trend]. What people want is frequently what they've apparently seen on TV, or, in other words, tomorrow's "cookie cutter" requiring a "complete gut". Often I have wondered how many other people listen to house hunters declare their need for more room for their shoes and clothes and think that this does not reflect well on their values. Yeah, sometimes I'm too serious. I would love to see a House Hunters series, at least for a few weeks, of non-North American people purchasing homes in the US. I'd like to hear their comments about our homes, and what they'd do to make the home more to their liking.
  3. I had to rerun the show when I heard that was a 2004 home. It looked like something built decades earlier and wasn't at all taken care of. When was the last time a woman looked at a typical bedroom closet and declare it a "good size"? That was different. I thought I'd gone through an entire episode about someone buying her first home for her and her kids without hearing the phrase "generational wealth". But, nope, it didn't happen. Out of curiosity, I wanted to see what kind of home $520K would get you in my region. This is nearly 2700 sq ft, 4-2-2, $515K. Built in 2003. [Builder grade interior, but clean and well-maintained. No ocean for hundreds of miles, only scenery is sky and tops of trees, back yard not much more than a large covered patio.] I wonder what this house would sell for in southern CA?
  4. San Diego to Madrid I thought the couple was fine. He was still coming to terms with the new lifestyle in Madrid, adjusting his mind to living in a smaller place, even living in the city. He was clearly the homebody and stated that they ate at home a lot. She was all on board and was more interested in living in Spain (and eating out), and not having Spanish charm inside the place that they got. They were pleasant and pleasant with each other. They had some pretty decent places to choose from.
  5. It was dilapidated and dangerous, but it also housed the book. It no longer served a purpose as others will know of the stories it contains. Now they need to digitize the damned thing. I don't normally pay much attention to actors' talents; I've never been one to recognize anything but incredibly bad acting. But Leah Purcell's performance was so convincing. She's the director of "My Life is Murder" as well.
  6. They showed a picture from when they first met. She definitely aged differently than he did.
  7. Raleigh I was impressed when they looked at the loft and designated it as a room for Camden. They also talked about a room off the kitchen where he could play and they could hear him. Grandmother/mother showed no tendency to be a helicoptering parent! (Yeah, I know she's parented before, but this kid's circumstances were special and I could see even a seasoned parent becoming a major worrywart.) So kudos to her.
  8. Kitchen-wise, this lady wanted whatever was considered "the latest" on HGTV, and neighborhood-wise, I think she wanted something from an early 1960s TV show.
  9. No. That's why I attached the photo. She also admired a marble counter top, which, she was told, was granite.
  10. And she loved, loved, loved things, too. Including the hardwood floors. It was the realtor who asked, "You do?" And she said nothing more.
  11. That first place they looked at...I saw how the guy declared the first bedroom as being good for his father, and then they looked at a nursery and wondered how her mother could possibly sleep in a bunk bed. At first, I was thrown by this, but then I got it in my head that the mother is not going to live there permanently, and will be returning to Medellin eventually. I was glad to see Lucas back. There was another Aussie male agent, and then there's Maxine, and I like that they all are a bit edgier than most of the other agents we see, which I enjoy. Nice places. I could do without that pool.
  12. I don't know, @Orcinus orca. I'm seeing trees, too. Do ever get to see boats? Is this private property? Does the water get almost too warm late in the summer? I have seen some of the lakes (not the Greats) in different parts of Canada, I believe up in Ontario. Some of those places look pretty to me, the water looks so clear, and jumping off docks and swimming so appeals to me this time of year.
  13. I can't speak for lake living. I would imagine that you usually have a view of land surrounding the lake, maybe some docks. I was reflecting my boredom living on the coast of the ocean or the sea where your view is only sky, water, and some sand, which was the view in this particular episode.
  14. Not feeling all that water view stuff. It's fine when you're a tourist, but as a resident, looking at water and sand can be extremely boring, as can walking on the beach each day. I'd rather be up on a hill with a swimming pool overlooking greenery, homes, and the sea. It's cooler and you're removed from the inevitability of strange, possibly rowdy people walking in front of your place at all hours of the night. That area is only going to attract more people, hurricanes, and bad storms. I approve of their one-bedroom choice. Tyler can check into a hotel if he doesn't like the free room and board and the pullout bed.
  15. Damn, you're old. (From someone who knows that the man is Jack Weston, former lead in "The Hathaways".) Nowadays, toddlers can get on their iPads and YouTube "how to pick a lock". I supposed having your kid tethered to a leash is out of favor, too. Both good ideas.
  16. There you go, thinking about yourself again. What about our entertainment? Our need to come here and gripe?
  17. And I thought a horrible job casting the older Alice. First, she doesn't even look a little like the fairer, blonder Alice. And second, when I first saw her, I thought she was depicting a younger Sally Morgan. Had I seen this actress in another show, I would've thought, "She reminds me of the actress who played Sally Morgan in that dreary Aussie drama about flowers." I'm thinking that there will be some dramatic revelation about June that completely explains why she is the way she is, and will therefore sway the audience back to having some respect for her. Something that Twig doesn't even know about.
  18. Guess I'll have to gut the kitchen.
  19. I'm fine with a bathroom off the kitchen. It doesn't have to be used during meal time. That leaves lots of hours during the day when it can be used, including the time when someone is in the kitchen cooking.
  20. So sorry, @edie3 and @cameron, that you failed as parents. Harsh reality, I know, but as your friend, I think it's good that you embrace the truth. I'm sure I speak for everyone here when I say that if you need to talk, we'll listen. We'll stand around my humongous kitchen island, sip on chardonnay, pick at finger foods, and talk, HH style.
  21. And the answer is.... When the 5 and 2 year old are paying the mortgage. Maybe a few bed time stories about things that go bump in the night would bring about an attitude adjustment in those two. 😈
  22. I know this is nit-picky. But it hit me like a ton of bricks. I am not a barber or a hairdresser, and haven't been in a shop in more than 12 years. These guys are getting their hair cut with the cape on yet nothing around their necks to keep the hair from going down their collars? Someone really dropped the ball on this! 😏
  23. Yeah, I've not traveled outside North America, but between HHI, YouTube videos pertaining to differences between countries and geography, and the Acorn shows that I watch, I've learned a lot of lingo of some of the Commonwealth nations. I would consider it a major coup if I were to go to Australia and manage not use the word "shrimp".
  24. Not showing off, just showing some knowledge and respect for the location. No way I'd throw around the word "yard" to showcase my ignorance/arrogance when I know better.
  25. I interpreted "homeless" to mean he was between homes, just as he was between jobs when his relationship ended. Didn't think of him as living on the street or broke or down on his luck. Just newly single and getting re-established. I vaguely remember this episode but I do remember thinking how he was being overly dramatic with his "homeless" angle.
