Totally agree that Ben rules, and Richard is gaining for me. However, does anyone else feel that anger is beginning to be more important than laughter? I think there's a lot of ugliness lately, which isn't being balanced by humor. Just me? Okay.

Chitown girl, word. I'm so sick of "on demand" not being "on demand" at all, except when someone at the channels wants to put stuff up. I'm just seeing Episode 6 now (april 18) even though 7 and 8 are up. And forget the lie about putting episodes up the day after their air - just doesn't happen. I absolutely adore Olivia Colman. Must go see what else she's done.

S03.E09: Do Mail Robots Dream of Electric Sheep?
Catherinewriter replied to ElectricBoogaloo's topic in The Americans [V]
I'm afraid I've forgotten how Gabriel failed Philip. Anyone? Elizabeth is beyond redemption for me. I know it's the writers' doing, but still. And it's also the writers' fault, as there is absolutely no reason for Elizabeth to go upstairs to see who's there. As long as no one comes down (and Lois Smith would have had no reason to do to so), Elizabeth and Philip could simply have done their work, keeping an eye on the door above, and then left. On the other hand, it was a wonderful scene for Lois Smith and so I'll shut up about it. -
Kathira, thanks, I'll look it up. Just incredible land formation. And all the green expanses, I assume nearby?

Dobian, I thought we were supposed to assume that the offices would be paid for with part of the $30,000 bribe Jimmy took from the Kettlemans. But then, since he "did the right thing," and returned the money, he no longer could afford it. I also wonder about how Mike is going to explain having all that money to turn over to the DA. God, this show is so in my bones already. I want it to go year round.
-
I don't want to see Jimmy become Saul. I just don't. I love Jimmy as Jimmy.

Oh, Seabass, would you have let a man say he had something of value in his backpack, and then let him open the backpack himself. Some characters are too ignorant to live, and they don't. But it's hard watching them, when the real baddies get away with so much. I didn't see the first two seasons, so can someone please tell me why Zach wants Boyd dead. Is it naive to think that our favorite characters will make it through the series alive? I suppose so. Ain't Loretta a trip. Hope she survives. Will really miss this show. Really

God, Olivia Coleman is a treasure. Speaking of scenery, does anyone know where the show is filmed. Those incredible cliffs are both sublime and threatening.
-
There was once a character on Grey's named Christina. Remember her? God, I miss her.

SlackerInc, it wasn't her climbing out of the well that was so terrifying, but climbing out of the TV, at least for me. CarpeDiem, agreed about the train station, and also the train. As it pulled into our view I thought it so lovely and wondered why society was so dumb to get rid (mostly) of trains. Some forensic questions: I was trying to figure out how the guns would be handled in an investigation of the cops' deaths. Mike's gun, the registered one, was taken by the soon to be dead cops and then presumably taken away by Mike after the event went down. The gun in the car was a ghost gun, or whatever you call one that isn't registered, right? So even though the Philly cops know that Mike did the deed, they have no forensic proof, right? This was definitely an Emmy performance for Mike, but I want Jimmy back real soon, Gilligan.

Thanks, editorgrrl, I don't know where I got Pete. But good to know my brain isn't dying. Such a good show.
-
I've seen all the shows to date and I'm confused about Pete. What was all that stuff at the end - his reading a book in his security cubicle, a car pulling into the lot, his sitting in his car watching a woman (who, you all say, is probably his daughter-in-law), and then his being arrested. Is there a backstory to this that I've missed, even seeing all the episodes? I love Jimmy and I love Bob Odenkirk. I hate it that he's going to turn into a less fine person than he is now. That is all.
-
Pretty much what others have said about the episode. But here's something I don't think anyone has mentioned: When you come out of an 18 hour surgery on your BRAIN, why are you put in a room that might as well be on the first floor of the hospital,, and where anyone and everyone can walk by and look at you, and eventually come into the room. I couldn't even with that. Is there no ICU at Seattle Grace Mercy West, or whatever it's name is now? Hope they find some way to keep Geena Davis.

I agree with all the reasons people have mentioned for the low/shrinking viewership, but I also suggest a couple of technical problems. Americans does not run the previous season before a new season starts, which is a big no-no. Also, and this truly bugs me, Americans doesn't go to On Demand until after the next episode airs. I.E., if you miss Episode 1, you can't see it until AFTER episode 2 airs and 2/3, and 3/4, etc. This is a truly f--ked up way to keep viewers' interest. Don't understand it at all. Justified goes On Demand the next day, perhaps other series, too, I don't watch any other FX shows. Can someone remind me how the carjack guy was identified as someone of interest? As in, how do they know he works in the same department as Lisa, etc. And no way he was still alive. Also, has anyone kept track of how many people each of them (Philip/Elizabeth) has killed? Outright, not as a result of some ongoing action (as in the Central American thing).

I think what Rebecca discovered about Clay is that he's been castrated. Any other ideas? And what the hell was that scene in the basement with Kai and Clay? Presumably they were both prisoners of someone, yet Kai was able to walk upstairs and shoot everybody. WFT? And did Clay kill the messenger guy whom Rebecca was using to take either money or drugs to someone, or did he just knock him unconscious? Not that it would have bothered Clay to kill the kid - just wondering.

Agree with posters who say Emily doesn't know what she's awakened by messing with Kai. But since I don't have much feeling for her, don't care. God, I've become a real bitch. I feel I should remember who horse lady is, but I don't. And as much as I felt for Chayton before he killed the very innocent concerned neighbor, that's gone. Take him out. Also, isn't horse lady the same actress playing the wife of the FBI agent in "The Americans"? Agreed, theft in the green building was a bit yawn. Couldn't tell what was happening. Also, how did they get away. The base guys were out there, they could certainly see the car and it's license plate, no?

God, I'm so naive. When Huck injected Andrew I snorted and scoffed, "Well, when he wakes up he can just tell them who did it." Again, I'm so naive. Wonder what you use to put someone into a stroke. But if anyone would know, it would be Huck. Or Jake. Or ..............
-
OhWell, agreed, this season is just too on edge. Who will live, who will die? Show, do not kill: Ava, Boyd, Raylan, Tim, Rachel, and most of all Bob. He's just classic. You can kill everyone else, including Ty and Avery and especially Catherine - she's a bore. I know you're listening to me, show.
-
I agree, Emily can leave any time. I don't recall why Rebecca is estranged from her parents? Can someone briefly recap? Thanks That was sad, the imagining of what might have been. How many times do people do that, and yet we seldom see it acted out.

Jellyfish Queen, I think that will be a problem throughout the series for those of us who have seen BB, but I'll trust Gilligan and Odenkirk to make it work. For me, even knowing that he wouldn't die, there was the pleasure of the convoluted and passionate ways he escaped dying, in addition to saving the skateboarders' lives.
-
Well, I love it, even with scenes that are too long (the grandmother on the steps, i.e.). I especially love imagining the filming of the two skateboarders in the desert. "Now, guys, I know it's hot and the tape on your mouths is uncomfortable, but here's what I want you to do. Pay attention to the dialogue between Saul and the others and whimper, whine, scream, try to shout 'No', move your bodies around frantically, etc., whenever it's appropriate given the dialogue. We'll let you wash the sand out of your mouth when we're finished." And I think Odenkirk is a treasure. Not to go back to BB, but he's a much more decent person than WW. WW wasn't even decent before he broke bad.
-
Surprised at the many negative responses. I loved it, could watch Odenkirk all night - he's such a compelling loser and I like the brothers' relationship. One caveat. Should we assume, given Tuco, that the two hapless skateboarders are now dead, because I'd have trouble with that kind of mini-massacre so early in the series.

In response to all our comments about ridiculous lines, arcs, etc., I wonder if any of the actors ever speak up and say, "You know, Julian, that's really a gratuituos line, could she say something else?" How much power do you think they have to question things they're expected to do, say, etc? Anyone have any idea? Re the Julian love for Mary, it seems to me that Dockery is in the best position to speak up. If she wants to, that is. Here's a terrible thought. What if what we're seeing, hearing, is the result of cast members speaking up, in which case, what were the original lines? Arrrrrhhghghghghghg
-
MarkySnark, absolutely. I didn't necessarily think it would be Mary, but I thought for sure that someone was going to go down. Is a steeplechase simply a form of horserace?

"If you think your husband routinely might be killing people to the point where there has to be clarification as to which dead person you are talking about... maybe he's not the best person to build a future with, Anna." Chattygal, this is so incredibly brilliant that I can't think of anything to add. So I won't even try.
