One is the Loneliest Number: Unpopular GG Opinions
readster replied to mstaken's topic in Gilmore Girls
Some actors can just look the part, however Keiko looks more closer to late 30s now and she is a year younger than my wife. In the revival I looked and went: "Oh, she is going to look like the mother of two children now." My mother made a joke: "Oh, now she doesn't have to pretend to be ten years younger anymore." Then again, I believe everyone from the show has all aged well. I do feel bad it took until Guardians of the Galaxy vol 2 for Sean Gunn to start getting more acting roles. He was here and there since the show ended. -
Past Seasons Talk: From Seattle Grace to Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital
readster replied to maraleia's topic in Grey's Anatomy
Many people brought that up if Cristina was so against children and the main reason she put: "Because I'll end up loving it and my career will go down as a result." Was just a piss pour excuse. That she should have done what you said above, in fact one person said: "Well, Cristina isn't a dog." Well, the problem is, if she is that career focused, and enjoys sex, but as we saw many times, Cristina wasn't really there to be a wife either. Then yes, get the tubes tied, just jump around and sleep with guys who you want to and then just tell people: "Hey, I'm a doctor, let me do my damn job!" As for Teddy, ever since they revealed the 9/11 flashback this just proves that Teddy has been a poorly written on the dime character that NEVER does anything logically. -
Oh I agree, I remember when the finale first air and you see Sam adjusting the picture, my parents went: "That was for coach." They read in the TV guide about the gesture in the final episode. Even though we physically saw Coach for 3 years, Nick Colasanto remained part of the show forever.
-
Yeah and it was due to filming schedules for the actors. Season 3 is very messed up with continuity due to Coach's real life health issues and then death in March of 1985. One of the big discussions when the season ended was what they were going to do about Coach. However, as it basically brought up by everyone that his death was publicly known by viewers and the media. So, they just were going to say he died over the summer and bring Woody in. The cast were leaving it in the writers hands whether they made a full episode over his death when they returned from summer hiatus or not. Both Ted Danson and Shelly Long said it was very hard talking about it and other cast members got chocked up when trying to discuss it during original drafts. That's why they left it to be just between Woody Harrison, Ted and Shelly Long. Though you see Norm and Cliff in the background when the exchange is happening between Sam and Woody about Coach dying and you can see they are getting emotional from the scene. Reala Perlman was purposely off camera because his death hit her very hard.

That was the lottery fantasy story from the last season. Which as we found out was also made up by Roseanne as that season pretty much never happened in anyone's minds.

Patton. Named after the General, originally in the comics, Mike was in military school until he got himself kicked out, but Pat named him Patton as he was actually in World War II, until he got time lost in the comics. Also, Sly's costume on Stargirl as "Starman" is the same one he ware as Skyman in the comics.

Right and it never went back to that. Yes, it was Carla's house, though the way they had her kids coming and going on the series. You couldn't keep track of who was where. Of course said tons about Nick, he fathered the first 6, but outside the first three, he didn't even know their names and if they were his or not.
-
Yeah, especially in the Thanksgiving episode. I mean they had the ENTIRE main cast in there along with Vera walking in (pie covering face) and there seem to still be room. Rebecca's was a bit smaller. Cliff's apartment looked extremely realistic. For Sam all we really ever saw was his bedroom. Least with Fraiser and Lilith's brownstone, it made plenty of sense.
-
They never really explained how Diane afforded the apartment. Plus, the fact how she was going to school during it. Originally, Diane was suppose to be left high and dry from an ex when the series began and only way to pay her rent was to work at Cheers. I also laugh at times that Carla, who had 9 kids before the series ended, could afford to even keep her lights on. Granted, she got her house for a steal since it was near the airport. However, by the end of the series. Only her four oldest kids are either moved out/married/preggers or about to finish high school. She still had the other 5 who are in 1st grade to middle school. Even though when they did the Cheers reunion on Fraiser. She is happy because all her kids are gone even through two are divorced, one is in prison and the other three never talk to her or with her grandkids. Basically Carla was happy she was finally alone and Diane and Rebecca are far away not present in her life anymore. Until Cliff decides to stick around Boston, she admits she almost has the perfect life again.

Robins and Harris are both involved in the series, Robinson more who is writing the upcoming Brainwave and Brainwave Jr episodes. I'm hoping they keep Jr's mother's history intact since she was the stepsister to Sylvester. I really like the show is keeping the villain conspircey going on in Blue Valley. However, being more of the Injustice Society instead of the Dragon King running everything. Plus, we actually have Cindy's mother involved in the series, something that was barely two panels in the original book run.
-
Also since Geoff Johns who created the characters or brought many of them back in modern comics is both the show runner and writers. It allows him to expand on things he really never got to. Stars and STRIPE was only 15 issues if you count issue #0. The show already has a different set up than the comic and he expanded on the school cast a bit more. I have to say the principal here and her son being embarrassed by her was great. Plus, Mike is a little younger here so they can play with his character a lot more than they did in the main comics.
-
There is a reason why they are called "The Injustice Society of America". I have to say I loved the ending when Icicle froze up the monitor and how the Gambler watched him do it. You know the Villains are returning. Interesting we are getting more use of Cindy's mother in the series. She was barely touched on in the comics.

I agree, it was kind of like how Fraiser and Lilith got together. These were two that were constantly calling things out on each other and after what is still the most hilarious TV interview. They get together and away they go. I felt their marriage as thrown out more for Bebe's Broadway work and after Fraiser was green lit and Bebe still couldn't really show up much in the first season. They decided that was it for their marriage.

Yeah, I'm sure someone was upset over something with money. Usually how shows get cancelled. Networks tend to beat shows into the ground that are making constant money for them, especially in syndication. Other times, there seems to be a more personal reason behind the cancelations. Then you get shows that are "saved" by networks that really should be left dead and buried. It's an odd industry.

Solomon Grundy. Born on Monday... sorry I couldn't resist.

How true, I was 4 when the show premiered and while my parents watched it, I really didn't much of the jokes until middle school. I was finishing my freshman year when the final episode aired. Watching it now, I see why it was such a funny show and understand the stories very well.

I found it interesting that with all the "aids awareness" of the mid 80s to early 90s they still had it where Sam, Carla, Diane and to a point Rebecca were just whipping it out and having sex. Even with the talk about Sam possibly having a low sperm count, Carla just needed to be touched on the shoulder and she was pregnant. Rebecca talked about being drawn to men with money and pretty much had a "wild" college life. Yet, the show didn't want to even bring that up. Brought up a lot of other great issues when the writing was there. However, while other shows were thinking: "Less sex" and "lusty and busty" Cheers pretty much went on. To Norm, sex was a chore. Fraiser and Woody had pretty normal lives before, during and after marriage. Cliff had it so rare, he never knew if he was good or not unless he was told.
-
Yeah, all we know they knew each other during Sam's drunk days through Nick of all people. Then when Sam got the bar, he gave a job at the bar. Everything else is pretty clouded there. I did like that Sam saw that Nick was still an over grown, dumb ass while his life has gotten pretty under control. Something that always bothered me about Anthony. He was willing to defend his father, but even in the horrible Tortellis spin-off, he acted like his father was this great guy. He was really crap.

I think they were also trying to write Ross more like Season 1 with his ex's pregnancy and him trying to be careful not to cause something that made him an "outsider" to his own child's life. I mean if you look at it, by season 8, Ross not only has been divorced three times, but ended up having a baby with two of them. The third being someone who he still loved and cared for. Plus, if you look at Rachel how she was handling things even after revealing things too Ross. Why wouldn't he be just take the hits and just smile and not deal with it. By season 9 and all the crap with the first few episodes, Ross saw Emma A LOT MORE than he did with Ben the first few years. It was like things clicked and Ross went pretty much back to normal... until Charlie happened.

Season 4 is a very: "What are they doing?" season. You had strengths in it, one being Woody's introduction and working with the cast. Even Diane's situation at the church made little sense at the beginning of the season. So much even the nuns wanted to kick her out and you wanted to smack Norm. Because everything was seriously his own damn fault. Fraiser had leaps and bounds the most character development. Sadly, we got the rest of Carla's "stupid/spoiled" older kids that season. Season 5 was a great reset with Rebecca coming in and Sam trying to get his life together again. Honestly, Diane leave was the best thing that could happen because you saw the writers had just given up on her character.

Even Dr. Green's dialogue is horrible and the situation he was in made the lines even more painful. Just all around it was an extremely bad episode, I remember even NBC hyping it up back in the day. I think they knew too just how BAD it was going to be.
-
Yep, Night Court didn't happen until 84, which was a year later.
-
It was such a well done episode too.

Right his nickname was based on the Boston Red Sox in major trouble and Sam was called in to save the day for the team. Reason why got his name. Plus after he left baseball, and had some kind of payout from his contract was how he got the original money to buy Cheers and Coach followed him to make sure Sam didn't really end up in the gutter. Why he was the main bar tender for years when the show opened up.
