NO kidding and basically the excuse is: "But that's how it always been." Many sitcoms just don't really want people to move forward, they act like nothing has changed in x amount of years. Even if the actors age and characters leave the show.
-
Right and if you look at it too, you can at least get farther away with those reality shows, but even looking at dramas that are now filming, they are pretty much doing the same with even more limit with characters to create that distancing.

No kidding and my cousin who went to cosmetology school said it was spot on at times even though the show showed up 5 years before she was born. Something I think that really caused problems was they wanted to do something different with Luanne and even Brittany Murphy wanted more for the characters. However, leading her to go to community college with no drive for 3 years (admitted four times on the show) and then marrying Lucky after getting knocked up by him. Isn't where I think they had envisioned.

Two And A Half Men - General Discussion
readster replied to Meredith Quill's topic in Two And A Half Men
Right and Cryer might have talked about the show running another 4 years and him getting his Emmy. However, that was mostly due to fan base and CBS not ready to throw the towel in despite the fact it was slipping fast by the second year. Plus, Kutcher's character really didn't bring anything to the show. He basically had an ex wife and mother who were jealous of his success and money and then throwing in he acted like people just did everything buy wipe his own ass to where he didn't know anything. Yet could: close on a house, run a business, make a deal with Microsoft, adopt a kid, ect. Yet, buy bread? How me do that? Made Jake look like a scholar winner some episodes. -
True and around season 2, they really figured out the voices of the characters too. They moved from Bobby "that boy isn't right" to Bobby is just comfortable with who he is, but sadly is naive about life, because well duh he is 12 going on 13, which he does by the end of the series is almost 14 and confirmed since the she did at times, let the characters age. The problem was, around season 8 is when you started seeing the classic: "The show has been on a while and now we are going to start being extreme with character traits." I mean you had moments where Peggy would counteract herself 5 minutes after she tried to be the "better person". Dale got more crazy and don't get me started on Khan and Min in that: "Let's break into the Hills house and mess things up." Plus, Fox honestly just kept renewing the show after season 10 because they had nothing else to replace it with and why the show kept spinning with old episodes that laid on the shelf for almost 5 years and ended up "forgetting" important plot points. Hell, Cotton died and magically returned because they finally aired Lucky and Luanne getting married, just to magically flashforward and she finally had the baby. I remember Mike Judge saying that Fox finally told him season 13 was going to be it due to ratings getting to the point The Simpsons and Family guy were doing better than them and by that point The Simpson was on almost 20 years. It's just sad how many of actors including Tom Petty are no longer with us.

Kind of like how Reba was entrapped by the high school principal after the whole situation with Cheyanne and Van's friends wanted to have sex. She didn't encourage it, she was just basically saying that wasn't the reason to get married for it. However, as many schools at that time thought: "sex doesn't exist". Funny post 9/11 teens and adults were: "tomorrow may never come, so have fun." Leading to the odd 06-2010 of: "sex is bad, you will go to hell for it."
-
Yeah, episodes like that are either way way too heavy handed or to where you want to go: "You didn't think much on this episode's writing did you?"
-
After watching the Goldbergs' TIK TOK on how they film now, this makes the most sense, but with sitcoms at least you have less extras and more centered sets. You do have to wonder how various dramas that require more on site filming and larger background characters is going to work.

I agree, plus Brock had the practice going for a long time to the fact that Reba could BE a stay at home mom and why Barbara Jean was hired in the first place. During season 3, we get that Brock was going through depression, but it wasn't UNTIL THAT season that Reba was getting on Brock more for alimony and child support money. Especially after he won a few professional golf tournaments and walked away with a few grand. Up until then, there was NO MENTION of being short on money or how the baby and the other house were eating up his finances. I could have seen it if Reba wanted to take Brock for all he had, but that wasn't the case. In fact, especially after Chey and Van graduate in season 1, that would have taken child support off there as they were legally married and living under Reba's room and were then 18. But once again, we are over thinking any logic to a show like this.

Past Seasons Talk: From Seattle Grace to Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital
readster replied to maraleia's topic in Grey's Anatomy
Nope, unless it's a major plot point, everyone just whips it out anywhere and goes for it. Or drops pants at the drop of the hat and then is: "Wait, how did I get preggers?" -
The fact that after that crash through the dinner that Luke didn't take a tire iron to both Taylor and Kirk was stupid. I'm sorry that would have been me, they would have never found the bodies.

Exactly, that's why when they had Sue with the constant: "Who are you again?" Unless it was the principal or PE teacher, got to the point where you think they were some government experiment going on with the school. Yes, there are clubs you can JUST JOIN and that be it. Also goes back to later on with Brick having the School Nurse's son just SHOW UP and try to out smart Brick because he could. Plus the fact, WHERE WAS THE ADVISOR? It was like on other shows where they had cast members on: school newspapers, film clubs, ect. They either have a teacher who looked like they walked off the street or acted like the teens just ran the clubs. IT DOESN'T WORK LIKE THAT! AS for Axl marriage, that was the writers signing Grammer to a long contract and thinking making her so stupid, she could only dress herself would be funny. When it all backfired after like 3 episodes, they rather just run the episodes into the ground than pay the actress straight out for a FAILED storyline. Even McDerment who played Axl thought the story was completely dumb and even more when they immediately paired Axl with Sue's friend. He said: "Then what was the point if they just wanted to throw me together with Lexi?"

Right and how banks and property managers had to waive evictions due to the pandemic. This would give Dan time to get money together and since he is in the target range of the virus, he would have to have others deliver or do grocery shopping for him until businesses moved to phase 3 in June. Giving Dan options for many home improvement projects people started in the summer. Sadly, I think the writers will use COVID-19 to explain how Dan didn't lose his house and why Darlene and the kids are still there. Plus, they can write off with Mark doing remote learning and Harris stuck working drop off/curb side for the Lunchbox. Let's just see if the writers are thinking like that.

The problem with LMS is that at times, the story might be thought provoking or a "good" message is there. However, when it is also played for laughs of: "Ryan and Mike are just being trees in the middle of the road" it comes off as bad. Goes back to what I was saying about Ed back in the "Sunday Brunch" episode with the restaurant. How he said he "hates fat people" and is also very stuck that "fat people always come to a brunch." He not only stereo types but also that Mike and Kirstin don't point out: "But it's more money in your pocket and we are reaching out to a larger customer base". You know, something all businesses from Fortune 500 to ma and pa stores try to do. Plus, the entire: "Bear in store we can't let Ed find out." Which he did and played it to make Mike and Kyle look like buffoons, even putting their lives in danger to make them squirm. That comes down to cruelty, and it's NOT FUNNY!

Married With Children - General Discussion
readster replied to Meredith Quill's topic in Married With Children
Yeah I get what are you saying. I also the transitions to more of an extreme around season 7. I mean, Marcie I think went way, way too far. I mean I get she became more annoyed with Al being her neighbor so long and Steve leaving really embittered her. HOWEVER... during that time, her bank would have been questioning her "women's movements" back then. In fact, Marcie's group were much worst than No Mame ever did. -
It's funny how watching the recent episode where Brad started writing with the school newspaper with "Hey Yo!". It was actually a sign of how people were looking for quick and stupid news they found different than to be "informed" of the late 90s and early 2000s. Vs the: "Want it instant now even if it isn't true" today.
-
Yeah no kidding, the writers looked like idiots so many times during these episodes. They couldn't even bring up logical reasons why family members who SHOULD BE THERE weren't.
-
With the show resuming production, they have a lot of cliffhangers to resolve. Much like many banks and being in Illinois, things were put in hold for a while, and then add in the stimulas bill. Plus, people doing more "at home projects". I could see Dan with help from Ben with safety guides getting enough work to just keep the house from being foreclosed on. Plus, you could also add in that the Lunchbox went to curbside pick up and online orders using Mark's knowledge of coding and programming.
-
The one thing is going to be resolving cliffhangers from last season. I mean, Dan's mortgage problem could easily be fixed with the fact that when coronovirus happened.

Spoilers and Spoiler Speculation: Benchmarking
readster replied to stopthestatic's topic in Grey's Anatomy
The problem is, I don't see Grey's making this look "realistic" enough for any of their characters. Even if they "skip" as they have said in interviews. There are just things you can't do on TV that are really happening to medical institutes and so forth. In fact, I doubt Grey's would talk about how patient rooms are more clean than their own hallways. I mean you have hospitals where patients don't have to wear a mask because the rooms are so clean, but nursing and doctors DO HAVE TO wear a mask when they go from room to room. Plus, proper ways which is to sanitize hands before removing masks or putting them on. Now, people at home, talking about things and more facetime with video conferences. Yes, in fact could drastically reduce filming and show costs as a result making things easier on filming in general. Hell, they want to keep with the entire Owen/Teddy crap. Them being stuck at home most of the time, force them to confront all the crap they have been keeping secret and could lead to a full split up. Which has been happening to many couples during this time. -
Two And A Half Men - General Discussion
readster replied to Meredith Quill's topic in Two And A Half Men
Alan had gone to the point, he would have mooched off ants and been seen living in a gutter. The show could have actually reversed things and had Alan has the bread winner for the first time in years when they fired Charlie Sheen and brought in Ashton Koocher. Instead they made Alan to the point he mooch off a mall Santa Claus and Jake couldn't apparently read anymore. -
Yeah, just because Brainwave can use his brain to do everything from erase memories to create TK shields doesn't mean he magically isn't as frail as any other human. Icicle, showed he was blasted very hard by Stargirl was caught between both forms and why Mike smashed him with the car.
-
Truth on both points. Those chairs could be returned very easily, especially with Amazon's policy or hell get credit for all the money spent for things they need when they fall apart, you know like a: sink, book stand, couch, ect. I mean the chairs that Brick was so easily ordering and apparently getting ONE DAY shipping cost from $50-$75. He easily spend around $800. Then with Frankie, no way would she be able to be on facebook all day at a dentist office being the ONLY other employee there. Maybe at the car lot, because business can very on days, but not for 3 years on a dentist office. Plus the stupidity of her and Mike not knowing you have PAY for the mini bar.

Maybe this will be the catalyst for using the belt since that's what Sylvester used when he was Star Spangled Kid.
-
It might be the real Sylvester, but is it Sylvester from this Earth or this time line?
