  1. Wow, excellent article. The writers of OITNB really did their homework -- there are so many parallels since Litchfield became a private prison.
  2. She was hilarious! I wish she was a correspondent -- she was really terrific.
  3. I always thought Rosie's comments about the troops were clear. Other people have said similar things -- just last week Trevor Noah said something similar when interviewing Michael Hayden, asking him if he thought people in the countries where drone strikes take place see us as the terrorists. A valid question, IMO. Rosie clearly supports the troops in general -- her actions and money demonstrate that over the years. I think she was tight lipped that day because she saw the writing on the wall and was struggling to avoid exactly what happened -- an on-air blow up.
  4. Audience member Nik's friend looked pissed last night when the camera panned back to them while Jimmy and NiCk were making mild fun of Nik. And Elle King must have been wearing a very structured corset under her slinky dress -- it gave an odd effect, and an unfortunate bulge in her crotch area.
  5. I so agree. In addition to her enormous wealth, she's an incredibly insightful woman who has spent a great deal of time and effort on personal improvement. It's not as though she lacks the mental fortitude to overcome difficulties -- she's proved that she has that in spades. On one hand, the fact that she still struggles with her weight despite all of that endears her to me, and on the other hand it deflates my hope that I'll be able to do what even she can't.
  6. Wait, what? Did she really do that? How incredibly condescending and obnoxious. I'm an atheist who celebrates a completely secular Christmas, and I have lights up. I'd be so pissed if she deigned to anoint my lights with her smug, divisive, unnecessary approval, and dared to assume that my pretty lights are there to spread her warped word of god.

    Serial

I'm surprised they chose such a high-profile, highly politicized case this time. Many people have already made up their minds about Bergdahl, and have already read quite a bit about this story. I liked the blank slate of Adnan's case, where no one had preconceived notions about the story as it unfolded. I listened to episode 1 and enjoyed it, but wasn't hanging on every word like with the first season. I missed Sarah and the music though -- those were great to hear! I had never heard of a DUSTWUN, so that was interesting.
  8. At one point when Kevin was walking down the hotel hallway, he passed a police officer with a bag over his head being led in the opposite direction. Was that a Mapleton PD uniform? I'm wondering if that was an alternate reality being played out, where Kevin had chosen his police uniform to wear instead of the assassin suit.
  9. Nora brought up her missing children twice in the episode, and both times she neglected to mention that her husband had departed as well. Is she intentionally keeping that from Erica?
  10. Who was that Donatella Versace lookalike who was always standing near Vicki at the baptism?
  11. Were you maybe trying to think of "news flash"?
  12. Two things: 1) At the viewing party, Tamra had just taken a bite of something when she said something that cracked herself up, so she was cackling uncontrollably (at her own joke) while sort of trying to hold her lips closed to keep the food in, and ... wowza, she will NOT like the way her face looked while doing that. And it went on for a while! And the joke wasn't even funny. I had such second-hand embarrassment. 2) When "Cinnamon" called in to the Dubrows' sales pitch, just after Heather used the oh-so-lovely term "tanorexic," Terry said, "No, [the tan] is real, just like these products!" So unprofessional!!! He was clearly being sarcastic about the tan being real, so is he saying the products are a bunch of bull too? (I mean, clearly they are, but he probably shouldn't blatantly say so during a sales pitch.) Hopefully that whole segment was only filmed for Bravo and didn't actually air on Evine.
  13. Oh man, the poor wife who texted during the few seconds that Jimmy was showing her husband's phone on camera on Friday. Saying she bailed on something and calling it "hell on wheels" probably wasn't meant for the whole world to see -- oops!
  14. I agree that Tamra's scenes with her mom and Ryan weren't the most riveting television, but I really appreciated seeing some family scenes instead of the show being 100% fake parties/lunches. I miss those family moments that used to be so prominently featured. I laughed when Terry asked Shannon if it was her birthday and she said, "It was, a long time ago" and then leaned close to his ear and murmured, "It's just an excuse for a party, Terry." Tamra yelling at Brooks was lame. It was blatantly clear that that whole thing was producer driven. She wasn't genuinely upset, Vicki wasn't upset, Brooks wasn't upset, the rest of the cast was scattered around the perimeter passively taking in the scene ... it was just SO boring. I think the producers were dismayed that the talk between Vicki, Brooks, Meghan, and Jim wasn't a screeching showdown, so they sicced Tamra on Brooks over a dumb minor comment to "make sparks" (™TheView).
  15. At my school, we just changed clothes -- no showering, and our bras/underwear stayed on the whole time. Did the trans teen say they showered together, or just changed clothes?I didn't see the show, but controversy about this issue always makes me wonder how people feel about homosexuals using the same locker rooms as those they're attracted to. That never seems to be an issue (rightly so), but the trans issue makes people uncomfortable.
  16. Richard Gere is in incredible shape and is still a very handsome man, but what was up with his brown lower tooth?
  17. Yes, totally. She also reminds me a bit of Jane from Breaking Bad.
  18. Since half the board sees TPing as no biggie and the other half thinks the twins' punishment was way too light, I think Shannon & David struck a reasonable middle ground with the letter-writing consequence. TPing in and of itself doesn't really bother me -- IME, there isn't ill will behind the action, but I will concede that it's a hassle to clean up. I do, however, notice that all the examples of TPing given in this thread mention middle and high school. These girls are 10, which is usually 4th or 5th grade, right? I do have a problem with them being out unsupervised late at night.
  19. This hair? http://www.realitytea.com/2015/08/11/vicki-gunvalson-defends-criticism-meghan-king-edmonds-jeff-lewis-opens-fired-living-spaces/ It looks like nice, heat-styled waves to me -- I thought it looked cute. But then I'm sick of the all-straight-all-the-time trend. I agree that next week's Brooks storyline should be interesting. Although I was bummed to see Megan's "The psychic said" tacked onto to the front of her "Brooks doesn't have cancer" revelation. Damn editing monkeys, previously making it seem like she was somehow privy to insider info!
  20. Just to offer another perspective, I make those fruitcake cookies regularly and really like them. I cut down the amount of apricots, increase the amount of figs, and add sunflower seeds to make it more like a trailmix cookie. I love them! And yes, the dough freezes very well.
  21. This scene was painful. The desperation on Shannon's face when searching for the bar was unsettling. It reminded me of the time I met an old friend I hadn't seen in about 8 years for dinner, and she was so consumed with finding cigarettes that she absolutely could not focus on our conversation at all. I ended up leaving about 30 minutes in, she was being so unbelievably rude. I recognized it as the face of addiction though, and I saw that same face on Shannon in last night's episode. The way she visibly relaxed and breathed a sigh of relief when the bartender told her they had vodka was so clear. Girl needs a flask in her purse if she's going to be that single-minded about drinking. And asking David repeatedly, "What did you say to Eddie? What did you say to Eddie?" was all kinds of odd. This is total speculation, but it gave me the impression that it was some therapy-related BS where she "needs total transparency" from him, and "can't feel safe" unless he immediately and truthfully answers any and all questions she chooses to hurl at him.
  22. Hi LabLover! Was it at Loco? I did a charity ride there last month and was dying laughing at how absolutely spot on the over-the-top instructor character was on this show.
  23. Yikes, that slow jam with Jeb Bush was painful. "Caucus tease" and "master debator" jokes? I'm surprised Bush's team was okay with that.
  24. I really enjoyed the pilot. One thing that kept taking me out of the show a bit was that the Rachel character looked and acted very much like Kate Mara's Zoe from House of Cards. And then she was paired with Constance Zimmer on top of it! It was like the Slugline girls quit D.C. and moved on to become reality TV producers.
  25. Yes!!! Flo was a cute concept for a while, but now they're just shoving her down our throats. I especially hate the commercial where she plays every character. And all her damn voices in the radio ads are just as annoying.
