  1. I have no problem with a quiet prayer of thanks before a meal out, and that goes for people of any religious persuasion. If other people can hear everything you are saying and you are disrupting other diners, then I would say that is praying for show and goes contrary to what is taught in the New Testament.
  2. I believe the US will go too. It is sad when political strife gets mixed up in the Olympics, which is supposed to be about people coming together for athletic competition despite differences. I still think the 1980 boycott of the Moscow games was a mistake. I remember watching the Olympic trials for the gymnastics team; so bittersweet for those athletes to compete and be named to the team, knowing they wouldn't be heading to the Olympics.
  3. Maria Sotskova skated well, and she's totally deserving of her silver medal, but that arm flopped up over her head in every single jump, twisting around up there along with her ponytail was totally distracting and not aesthetically pleasing. The ISU needs to Zayak rule that arm variation next season. And on a petty note, I thought her dress was the color of a piece of chewed Wrigley's double mint gum. As for tha rest of the field, Carolina skates pretty and the judges love her, Wakaba... why? I was rooting for her. May she make the Olympics and have the skate of her life there. Kaetlyn doesn't skate a clean free again ..... sorry, but not surprised. I thought Satoko's was the most enjoyable to watch, URs or not. I hadn't heard of Alina until this season, but I'm going to be mean here and just say I wish she'd take her tutus and ridiculously backloaded programs and go away until she learns to actually hold a position in her (frontloaded) footwork. Obviously, this event put me in a Grinchy mood.
  4. I love both Jason and Adam, but I'm kind of glad Adam edged Jason in the standings here. I think he may need that little edge in the selection committee's mind. And while he has a history of inconsistency, I think he's been very consistent this year. The quad lutz has given him some problems, but he's been landing everything else well and he has engaging problems that are beautifully skated. And to show he's a boss, he fixed his own injury and skated on to a silver medal at Skate America. Plus 3 GOE for being awesome. Which brings us back to the bleeping quads. I know it's a sport, higher, faster, stronger, blah, blah, blah, but I think the quad race is sucking some of the life out of men's skating. Hats off to Ryan Bradley for pointing out that the Grand Prix Final medalists had about eight or nine botched quads between them. Turn in the air, land on one foot, or two, or your butt, but it's still worth double digit points. I propose they start another event called skate jumping. Dress in those Lycra body suits with the hoods that speed skaters wear, turn off the music (hey, at least we'd escape more POTO, Carmen, and that new warhorse, Moulin Rouge), set the timer for four-and-a-half minutes, and turn the guy loose to quad as much as possible before time expires. No limit on jumping passes. Add up the scores. The guys actually interested in being figure skaters will skate in a separate event.
  5. I had always enjoyed Rippon's skating, but it was kind of like "Oh look, Adam is in this competition. Cool." After this Grand Prix season though, I am definitely a fan. His short program is skated to music that would likely annoy me in most situations, but his program is so fun to watch that I've rewatched it several times this week. He totally owns it. His long is just simply beautiful. Unfortunately, once I become a real fan of a skater, I get very nervous watching them skate, so now I get to be tense watching the GPF and Nationals. I really hope he makes the Olympic team.
  6. I've said it before and I'll say it again....Virtue and Moir are pathologically incapable of skating a long program that doesn't somehow end up being about true love. That being said, I enjoy watching them skate, but no more than I enjoy watching any of the top 10 or so dance teams in the world skate. If I had to pick a favorite, it would be the Shibs, but I think we all know that barring some sort of injury or twizzle disaster, the Olympic podium will be V/M for gold, Papadakis/Cizerone for silver (likely cursing the day V/M returned to competition), and some sort of blood bath of unknown result for bronze (likely an American or Canadian team).
  7. I still shake my head that the likes of People magazine pays these people (Duggars and Duggar-adjacent) any attention. They are getting engaged, married and pregant at breakneck speed because that is all they think is important and about all they do. When one of them breaks away, gets a real education, and writes a tell all THEN People magazine would have a story. I'm not against marriage or kids. They are a very important part of my own life. I just don't understand people who think the whole rest of the world is as excited about their lifetime milestones as they are.
  8. I would think all the money spent on fancy clothes and pictures for an unnecessary, fake second wedding would be better spent on food and proper housing for their dozen children. Silly me. This woman has no idea what true modesty is. She states on her facebook page that people in swimwear minding their own business on the beach is "so sad", yet this spectacle in fuschia is a celebration of their perfect Christian love. Whatever, lady.
  9. Knowing Virtue and Moir, they will find a way to make it lovey-dovey.
  10. So much going on in this episode, but my favorite little moment was this... Bran: "I became the three-eyed raven." Sam: "Ooooh! ....... I don't know what that means." Something about his delivery of that line was just perfect.

    Gymnastics

You got it. The Biellman is where they grab that skate blade and crank a leg up over their heads. It became popular after skating changed the scoring system in the wake of the Salt Lake City Olympics. Apparently it garners a lot of points.
  12. Is Anna setting the record for the world's longest human pregnancy or something? Not that I want to think about the specifics of when M5 was conceived, but if they announced that it was a boy almost five months ago, she must be due like any day. Just what every woman wants, to spend the last days of her pregancy with a bandaid baby doing a photo op at the place your husband went to for his "sex addiction." Good times.

    Gymnastics

I don't claim to know anything about men's gymnastics other than what I observe while sitting on my couch, but I was really surprised that someone who had the kind of meet that Allan Bower did was not named to be the world team. I hope his time will come. The wolf turn in ladies' gymnastics is becoming what the Biellman spin is to ladies' figure skating. Ubiquitous and not particularly attractive.
  14. Jill does look huge. I hope for everyone's sake she is getting proper medical care and plans to deliver in a hospital. Even as someone who has had four kids and generally enjoyed my pregnancies, I just can't imagine being at that uncomfortable last few weeks and thinking "yeah, I will likely be doing this a dozen more times, with absolutely no control over when it happens again." Yikes.
  15. Joy is married already? That was quick. Isn't she still a teenager? Man they hustle things along. I suppose she'll be a mother by this time next year. How many Duaggar grandkids do there have to be before people just stop caring?
  16. Henry VII regarding Perkin Warbeck, the pretender to the throne: "He taunts me with his dazzle." That is perfect. I need to find a way to work this into everyday conversation.
  17. Nobody who know anything about "Anne of Green Gables" would forget to spell Anne with an E!
  18. I'm sure this is an unpopular opinion, but I have not been particularly interested in Sister Mary Cynthia'a story. I find the character almost too meek and mild, though I certainly don't discount the health issues she is facing, especially in light of the fact that there have been a few mentions of her being based on a real person. I have read alll three or Jennifer Worth's books about her time in Poplar, but I'm not remembering much about this story line. What happened with the real Mary Cynthia? Reggie was just a sweetheart. I'm glad he got a somewhat happy ending after losing his mother. I think it was the right thing to do since Fred and Violet are none too young themselves. He is not a child, and a young man of 21 going to a place where he can have meaningful work and companionship is quite what is expected for young adults. I hope the actor makes some guest appearances. I'm glad Crystal got a healthy baby and a lovely smile. As soon as Trixie said a few pointed words to the dentist during the clinic I thought "and there is her next love interest." But I'm happy to be right. I still love this show. I'm sad when Sunday night does not bring me an British period piece drama.
  19. "We Two" is a dual biography of Victoria and Albert written by Gillian Gill. It gives details of their lives before marriage as well as discussing them and their family after marriage. I just finished it a couple of weeks ago, and I definitely recommend it!
  20. Finally made my way through all the 4CC coverage on my DVR. I was very happy to see Nathan and Mirai's results. Hanyu was great too; I thought Coughlin's insight into Hanyu not letting himself get overly emotional was spot on. I would have loved to see the Shibs win dance, but I knew that wasn't going to happen. Virtue/Moir are amazing too, but I did not see anything that made them finish 5 points ahead of the Shibs. Am I missing something? I was also a little surprised they breezed by Papadakis and Cizeron so easily at the GPF. I thought P and C were the anointed ones, but apparently V and M snatched up that mantle the minute they stepped back onto the ice this season.
  21. So Tabitha is getting married on April Fools' Day? I'm sure the irony is lost on that set.
  22. That kid is five days old and has no official name? Maybe Jessa will have another bun in the oven before they "announce."
  23. It takes either guts or stupidity to go for another home birth after the serious bleeding she experienced with her first baby JUST 15 MONTHS AGO. I'm glad both mother and baby are doing okay. It still cracks me up that they withhold the releasing the name like she's just birthed Prince George of Cambridge or something. I'm still waiting for the day that a Duggar having a baby is not news. Come on folks, they are just doing what they are known for. A Duggar girl putting on a pair of jeans, getting a job, moving out of the compound with no headship to supervise her, pursuing a college degree, marrying without having Daddy set it up ( if she wants to marry) and having 2 or 3 kids nicely spaced with birth control (if she wants kids) THAT might be news.
  24. Does anyone know if and when Four Continents will air? My figure skating season pass on my DVR uses to work like a charm, but now it apparently picks up some skating but not necessarily all of it.
  25. I hope both Jessa and Jill deliver in a hospital this time around. I don't see how anything else could be medically advisable considering their birth experiences the first time around. What number Duggar Grandchild will we have to be on before each new pregnancy ceases to be news? Isn't Baby Dillard 2.0 going to be #8? How interesting can it be when people whose only claim to fame is their fertility keep getting pregnant? I understand how it is important to them and their families, but why should it be important to the rest of the world?
