  1. At least they didn’t ramp up the drama to an even greater degree by having Amelia deliver Teddy’s baby in the car. I thought that was where they were going at first. TV births do tend to overdo the screaming, but as she seemed pretty far along in the labor when she arrived at the hospital, I can buy that she didn’t have time for an epidural. Been there, done that. I totally agree there should have been at least one nurse in the room during the delivery. I don’t hate Teddy and Owen (unpopular opinion), but they have screwed over enough people that care about them that at the point I am ready for them to take their baby and to ride off into the sunset (also known as getting onto a plane to Germany.)
  2. Jack and the corn sandwiches and running the kids to see Rebecca in the middle of the night was ridiculous. If I had to choose between a guy who does the Big Romantic Gesture and the guy who can do practical things (Like feed and care for his own dang children while I recuperate from a medical emergency), I will pick the practical guy every time. I am glad that Zoe and Kevin have the strength to call it quits . Whether or not to have kids is a huge decision, and the relationship will struggle if they are not on the same page about this. I hope they don’t have Zoe change her mind, because some people don’t want children and that’s a valid choice. I say this is someone who always did want children and was blessed to have them easily. I don’t think that motherhood or the lack thereof should totally define a woman’s life. I see the flaws and overwroughtness the show has at times, but I’m still in. It entertains me.
  3. I hate to think of the poor little Rodriguii having a stomach bug. Those thin little bodies have very few reserves upon which to draw during an illness. 😦
  4. It would be great to see more variety of styles! But as long as P/C keep winning competitions by 20 points every time they step on the ice, they will just keep putting out more of the same. I’m curious to see if this scoring pattern will just continue through the next Olympics, or if the gap between them and the rest of the field will begin to close.
  5. I still find it amazing the amount of low-level fame some of these girls have by virtue of being reasonably pretty and having the dumb luck to be born into a family with a double-digit number of siblings. I mean good for them if they can turn a profit selling make-up or leggings or making YouTube videos. Make the most of your opportunities! But don’t continue with your modesty tripe when plastering your face all over social media is the antithesis of that word.
  6. Well, another Worlds in the books. I was on spring break this week, so it was nice to be able to binge on figure skating. I didn’t keep count or anything, but it seemed that across all the disciplines that there were fewer splats than usual. Perhaps the skaters are settling into this brave new world of insane tech content. That being said, I am not looking forward to the ladies’ event becoming a quadfest next year. Alina deserved her win and I’m happy for her after the rough season she has had, but something about her skating just doesn’t sit right with me. She looks hunched or something, and the choreography is just so busy. She is the freaking reigning Olympic champion. I wish she would learn to hold a position. Partway through the program she does something that looks like a Charlotte but I’m honestly not sure what it is, because she pokes her leg up toward the ceiling for half a second while skating backwards, then brings it right down. Also, can we put Carmen in mothballs and maybe bring it out again in about a decade? Sui/Han’s perfection, Yuzu and Nathan’s showdown, Jason’s SP were highlights for me. And props to that enthusiastic and gracious crowd in Japan. The skaters must love performing there.
  7. I agree. I don’t think that Jill meant Izzie had no toothpaste or toothbrush unless he completed the book! He probably wanted a special one that maybe cost more than what she would usually spend. As far as incentives go, it’s not a bad one. I’m glad she feels free to go about her day in jeans like most young women her age and has broken away from her “skirts and dresses only” upbringing.
  8. Sui and Han were mesmerizing. My biggest wish for Worlds this year was for those two to win, and they certainly did it in style. The top two Russian teams were strong and clean, but so boring. And the US men are first, second and fourth after the SP. Wow! My favorite part of the SP was watching that amazing Japanese crowd rise to its feet as Jason knelt on the ice in his ending pose. Chills.
  9. We all know they will win, and if they are clean they deserve to win. I just still wish the commentators would make an effort to tell us how what they do is THAT much better than everyone else. Of course, I guess most of us won’t get a chance to see it at all since NBC can’t be bothered to broadcast it on any of their channels. As for the other disciplines, I hope Johnny and Tara can reign in their superlatives about Nathan. I like Nathan and think he can win if Hanyu isn’t 100%, but T and J need to take it down a notch. We saw how the hype train derailed at the Olympics. In the ladies, let’s see if they can commentate without a mention of Alysa Liu since, you know, she’s not at this competition. With the pairs I mainly want to see my dear Sui and Han skate cleanly!
  10. I can’t find any time that any TV stations will be airing the pairs short program or the free dance from Worlds. Sigh. I guess NBC really wants people to buy that Gold Pass.
  11. I was assuming the 4CC ice dance competition would feature a lot of good performances, but that H/D would skate away with the title. I was so glad to be wrong about the latter. I agree with the poster upthread who said that they never thought they would actively root against a US team, but H/D have made it possible. Their utter shock and dismay in the kiss and cry made my day. I am terrible, I know. Maybe this will shake up worlds a bit. But only a bit. We all know P/C will win with a ridiculous score. I don’t dislike them. They are great. I just don’t think they are that much better than everyone else. In the men’s and ladies’ I am so sick of hearing about the UR’s. I understand it’s part of the rules and needs to be mentioned so viewers can know why some skaters who don’t make highly visible errors are getting dinged. But it gets tedious. Sometimes I just want to enjoy the performance. And every time Tara mentions a UR I think “Girlfriend, if they judged skating today the way they did 20 years ago, you would be so out of luck with that roller-skater double axel and teeny-tiny triple loop-triple-loop combo.”
  12. And no matter what H/D achieve on the ice in the future, they will never be Meryl and Charlie because Meryl and Charlie were always humble and gracious. I missed actually hearing Zach’s comment, however, because whenever Andrea Joyce “catches up” with them I fast forward. I can’t stand to listen to them talk.
  13. Now we will get to see how much of the remaining Nationals coverage is devoted to gushing about Alysa and replaying her free skate rather than, you know, actually showing athletes is the other disciplines skating.
  14. I’m right there with you. Congrats to Alysa Liu on her win, which was deserved, but you know that NBC will now be pushing the Alysa Hype Train hard, and I don’t think it will be good for anyone. There is a long road still until the next Olympics, and Alysa is going to meet puberty somewhere between now and then. I also find Johnny and Tara’s crowing “Oh look out Russia and Japan, we have one too!” to be kind of tasteless. I think if either Bradie or Mariah had stood up for their entire performances, the result would have been different.
  15. Potholder looms... I certainly went through a phase with those. One Christmas I made my mom, both grandmothers and all my aunts pot holders on those. Bless their hearts, they actually acted happy to receive them!
  16. I know it is silly and petty, but something about Jill wearing a sleeveless top while a couple of the little girls sport black tights with white sandals just makes that picture even more bizarre.
  17. My thoughts exactly! Yes, they are extremely good and certainly deserve their win, but I don't see how they are 20 points better than everybody else. I am not a skater and I don't know all the technicalities of ice dance, but come on. I'm surprised that no one has mentioned Hawayek and Baker's beautiful free dance. I wish they had made the podium, but I think they were pleased with their effort. In the absence of the Shibs, they are my favorite U.S. ice dance team. I would love to see them dethrone Hubbell and Donahue at nationals, but we all know unless H/D make some mistakes, that's not going to happen.
  18. The writers seem to have a hard time accurately representing the climate in parts of the country that are Not California.
  19. It's been over a year since Nurie's grape chewing gum suitor disappeared, hasn't it? Jill has been very busy of late, birthing blessing #13, soliciting donations after her daughters' car wreck and hauling the entire family across the continent to drop Timothy off at aviation school. She now has time in her schedule for round 2 of project Find Nurie a Man.
  20. Congrats on the baby, but I cannot stomach the weird spellings either. I have also seen kids with it spelled Jaxen and Jaxsen. I see lots of kids' names since I am a teacher in a (gasp) public school.
  21. Just gotta say this is my favorite thread in the Counting On forum. Sorry Duggars, you are boring, and I quit watching years ago. Jill R., however, is the gift that keeps on giving. I would never want her to have the platform of a TV show, but if it ever happened I'd watch as a guilty pleasure. And then I'd feel guilty for supporting their show, but it would be a dang train wreck and it would take strength to look away.
  22. Jill acts like she is the only person who has ever seen a kid off to start their adult life. Kids go to college, move to other states to pursue careers and even go into the military where they may have VERY limited opportunity to communicate with their families for long periods of time. Jill needs to get over herself.
  23. Good for Jessa for choosing a quality program for her children, but why are Jill and Jessa "homeschooling" when their kids are barely three (is Spurgie even 3 yet)? Why can't you just read to your kid, converse with them, have some quality toys around, let them color and draw, maybe practice letters and wordplay if they are interested? Kids that age learn by playing and doing. A lot of formal instruction is not needed. In fact, it can be counterproductive.
  24. I watched season 1. I tried to like it because it was Anne, but I really didn't. When Season 2 came out I just couldn't muster up any enthusiasm and I chose to skip it. I feel like they have done to Anne what Michael Landon did to Little House by veering wildly from the source material and filling it with anachronistic situations and attitudes. The difference is that I could actually stomach Little House because it just had some of that classic 70's TV cheesiness and was part of my childhood. I don't feel compelled to put up with what they have done to Anne. And just to be even grumpier, I find the actress playing Anne grating. Megan Follows and book Anne could be annoying yet endearing at the same time. This girl, not so much.
