  1. I love hearing professional chefs saying they prefer store-bought mayo to making their own.
  2. I spent the whole episode irritated it was so glaringly obvious Olympia was onto Matty so she was "the Johnson case" but I almost forgave it for how much Skye P. Marshall nailed it in the final, confrontation scene. I look forward to seeing how this unfolds, especially if Julian is indeed the culprit as that will give Olympia a very complicated set of emotions. I love her. I watched this show I wouldn't otherwise give a single glance because of Kathy Bates, and didn't love the pilot - at all - but continued to see how the big twist from the pilot's end would evolve, and quickly wound up watching for Olympia - a character I initially found lacking in dimension - and not only for her relationship with Matty. She is fantastic, and I will 100% see this season out and then decide whether or not to continue, based on how the big reveal is handled in terms of their dynamic. Marshall's delivery when Olympia asks Elijah "Have I died and I'm the last to know?" about everyone in the firm being weird was perfect. I am also down with gouda and Cristal as the meaning of life. The case, the statute of limitations on IIED, the idea Olympia would have to lobby for a job with the PD office, whatever, I'm trying to let it go as per usual. "What's Door Dash?" was a good line about the time this man has lost, and I also appreciated hammering home how women, especially women of color, are ignored by men, especially white men. These things should be obvious, but they're not, so bear repeating. Matty taking so long to understand the juror, bad enough, but not understanding the complete lack of power of Mrs. B, especially 14 years ago, and threatening her dog? Oh, hell no. That she's abandoned all perspective along the way of this quest for justice, and the repercussions to people who aren't evil, better be properly addressed, or I'm bowing out. I'll need to re-watch this for details as I wasn't 100% focused, but I think despite the total lack of suspense it's a fairly good transition episode as we shift into Matty and Olympia hashing out the events of 14 years ago based on both now knowing who Matty is and what she's after.
  3. Wow, this was a tough challenge for LCK. Has anyone in the history of TC ever nailed panna cotta? It seems like it's usually a disaster, and at best like Bailey's - good, but not quite right texturally. I really thought Tom was going to be biased towards Zubair, given his credentials, so was pleased when Bailey's name was called as the winner. It will be interesting to see how she does back in the realm of competing against numerous people and for multiple judges versus the smaller LCK pond she's been swimming in.
  4. That would explain Boq not meaning anything to me; I have no interest in Wicked (on stage or screen) and only know that it exists, nothing about it.
  5. I wish they hadn't wasted time on having Kristen run back and forth with the mic, but it was nice to see Mattea and Amy in the trivia contest. It's cool that Kat had one of the top three QF dishes, having had only 15 minutes. Massimo was sure a sore loser about being in the bottom. The top three EC dishes were the ones I most wanted to eat, but I ranked them Kat, Corwin, and then Tristan (of course, I didn't get to actually eat any of them -- and I don't think I'd have wanted to sit baking in the sun at that table in order to do so, given how many other dishes I didn't find very appealing). I couldn't decide which of the bottom three dishes I'd least want to eat; I was kind of leaning towards Zubair's, but they all sounded rather unfortunate.
  6. Archive game for me. I ran governor, anatomy, and words and got all but Yemen in java (pretty good for someone who doesn't drink coffee), but missed three each in British TV and stories, so it was not a great first round. I missed three in straits, but otherwise did very well in DJ; I only ran long, but only missed one each in the rest -- Runnymede in history, Clarke in initials, Into the Woods in musicals, and gravenstein in "grave" (seeing the picture wouldn't have helped). I had no guess for FJ, as I rejected everything I thought of -- including munchkins. Oops.
  7. Quoting myself to say, nope, still don't recognize her. But I like her charity. Totally leaning into the "GOALLLL" shout was a lot of fun, especially Ken admonishing Margaret when she didn't play ball (and then she yelled Gladiator, LOL) so that was a fun category. I can't believe "tie the knot" was a TS, or that none of them knew the "settle down" DD (normally we don't know if either/both of the other two would have known a missed DD had they landed on it). And no one getting Edinburgh, with it narrowed down to two. Islamabad also surprised, as did Buenos Aires. Jupiter and War and Peace were the absolute mind bogglers, though. Even for a celebrity tournament, at a semi-final level, I was surprised more than I expected to be. Margaret was so dominant in her quarter-final win, I cheered her last-minute true DD, but, damn, fucking it up was a bummer. She did not hear me screaming "gondola". My cat did, and wondered what the hell was wrong with me. It would have been interesting to see if FJ had come down to wagering, but good for Kamau.
  8. They were all on TV before, when they did the Rodbell's commercial. Duh, Jackie doesn't have a case, only Dan; nice to see one moment of realism in this lawsuit storyline (although I guess they threw in a line last week about a higher court ruling that allowed for claims previously barred, so maybe that's their basis for the statute of limitations, but I'm not going to go back and check the details). Roseanne's text worrying about Dan if she couldn't work anymore was realistic; I'm glad they're calling back to that time. "Do you have anything domestic, I don't even know this guy" made me laugh. As did "Why?" about starting a hardware magazine. But I hope they're not going down the tired love triangle path here with Seth Green's character. Ben is busy right now, but he won't always be, and Darlene is not immature and stupid enough to spin out over that. And Becky and Tyler are pathetically schmoopy, while I don't remember them being like this last season. It's pretty sad for the sisters to have been more realistic in their relationships at sixteen than they are now. "Not to mention the disability money you'll be getting from your break with reality" and the descriptions of social media were not enough to save the thankfully short-lived influencer storyline, but it was a nice dynamic between Harris and Aunt Becky. I could do without seeing Beverly Rose again since the kid cannot act to save her life, but when she's missing this far after the height of the pandemic, people ask questions, so I understand plopping her back into a scene.
  9. I missed last night's episode due to a phone call, so was a little disappointed to tune in tonight and see that ugly-ass beard again. Not that I like the middle guy's any better, but it doesn't distract me like the champ's; I don't know why I have such hatred for that particular style of beard, but I do. Maybe it gives me Andrew Luck flashbacks. I thought there were two times someone didn't phrase their response in the form of a question in DJ, so figured they had and it was just cut for time (that the Kevin Bacon category took up), but I guess not. I have "Hungry Heart" stuck in my head. That's not a bad thing, mind you. (At least it's not the Kars 4 Kids song.) Good grief, they were terrible in that category. I, OTOH, ran it. I also ran pact, cuisine, and moon, and got all but kachina in words, so I had a great first round even though I missed two in love. In DJ, I ran geography, punctuation, and dead (which I in no way expected based on the category). But I missed three each in the rest. FJ was an instaguess, and all credit to cultural osmosis as I've never seen it or had the slightest interest in doing so.
  10. I barely remember anything about the first season other than I could not stand the host. I can't even pull up a picture of her in my mind, but I remember she was annoying as all get out. I'm not sure I want to endure a second season of her, but thanks for letting us know they're doing it again.
  11. I hate facial hair, period, beards most of all, and really hate that particular one, so, yeah, I won't complain if I don't have to look at it much longer. But that's cute about the cat name, so I'll just think of that to counteract every "ugh" thought (I generally skip the interviews, so didn't know about the kitty.) I watched with my mom so didn't keep track, but neither of us got FJ. I otherwise had a great game, though; I know I almost ran the entire first round, and did well in DJ other than in novels, in which I don't think I came up with a single one
  12. Wow, that Jet vs. Mustache Joe round! Everyone thought Jet had it in the bag after the judges' comments, and then Joe's feedback was also nothing but high praise. I love a good cheeseburger, so for that to get the tournament's highest score, I really wanted to taste that burger. I was salivating over Jet's dish, too. I can't decide if Tiffani's reaction upon Joe winning was just shock or if she was also a bit pissed. Joe was "her" chef, but he's a bit annoying and maybe she's one of those who wanted this to finally be Jet's year. I don't know, I found the shock from both her and Guy a little irritating; sure, it seemed like Jet had it in the bag since the judges fell all over themselves praising his dish -- but that was before they ate Joe's and did the very same thing. By the time everyone was standing there waiting for the big reveal, it was clear it could have been either name. While I like Jet (and don't particularly care for Mustache Joe), I'm really over the idea that now that all the previous winners are out of the race, it's his to lose this year. If Guy believes he's assembling the best of the best, then he ought to believe that in any given match-up, it could go either way. I wound up being happy Joe won. I was happy with all the results, although I wouldn't have been angry had any of them gone the other way. Kaleena really beat the stuffing out of Shota, outscoring him on every single element for a seven-point win. That was an impressive victory. All four of Britt's winning points came on taste, so clearly they didn't much care about all that parmesan. I thought both her and Michael turned in just okay dishes compared to what they've done in the past, so she better get back to form next time if she's going to keep going (but since she's going against Kaleena next, I'm not sure who I'll root for).
  13. Aw, this is cute (and answers my question as to whether they'd always intended Adam to stick around or if that evolved as the characters/actors worked so well together [the latter]):
  14. You're probably thinking of Kaleena.
  15. Paying means you did it right. You don't want to owe estimated and not do it, but if at the end of the tax year you're writing a reasonably-priced check to the IRS rather than them writing one to you, it means you didn't give them more money during that year than you actually owed; it was yours, not theirs, to do what you wanted/needed for that time.
  16. That's probably the only episode in which I was ever enraged at Susan. Yeah, Mark is her friend, whatever. You don't call another woman a bitch, and you sure as hell don't, after a total clusterfuck of a night, say "she's just covering her ass" when Coburn clearly delineates the astounding "chain of errors in judgment" Mark made -- he missed pre-eclampsia, underestimated the fetal weight, missed a placental abruption (that he never even later caught; it's not until that moment when she physically points to the clot that he sees it), did an "ill-advised" (heh, that seems to be generous) forceps delivery on a baby that's too big, and then an absolute hack job of a C-section.
  17. I'm the oddball who doesn't like his '80s TV movies/miniseries, but I'm a sucker for '70s disaster movies, so that's the role that immediately sprang to my mind.
  18. I think it was earthquake, but, yeah. Although, in fairness, that particular incident with stuff flying everywhere was because Massimo tripped as he approached their station. He didn't seem to be running any faster than most of them do at the time. Between that and the booming voice, he seems like he might be a lot, but thus far they all seem to joke about it in a good natured way.
  19. While I have no problem looking at my unmade bed (with or without sleeping kitty), I would convulse if my wallet was arranged any other way.
  20. No matter how much you think you're prepared for the mental challenge of something - from watching previous versions, reading about them, even talking one-on-one with those who've done it - you can't truly know what it's like until you're doing it. I have no problem believing someone signed up for TC thinking one thing and then found out differently once they got into it.
  21. Massimo also knew his myriad flaws, but what saved him is at least his dish tasted like his assigned ingredient while hers didn't even have that one thing going for it.
  22. Same here. I probably would anyway, but I recently re-watched seasons one through three, so the C.J. vs. Sherri Wexler smackdown was fresh in my mind. I watched with friends, so didn't keep track, but I know I had a great game. In the first round, I was terrible in book, only getting immortal, but I think I ran everything else. I did very well in DJ, too. And FJ was an instaget; I'm not sure where along the way I picked up and retained that North Korea = the hermit nation, but I did, so even though I'd never heard of the other nickname, I was all set.
  23. I was really good at that -- but do not miss it!
  24. It's pathetic how few restaurants, even some pricey ones, do a proper crab cake. Too much filler; it should be right on the brink of falling apart. I pretty much only eat them homemade these days. It had been a while, but we had them at my parents' house Tuesday night and I'm eating the leftover one for lunch right now.
  25. I hardly ever watch this show any more, but I happened upon that episode and watched for the first time in months if not years, and it's some fuckwits buying rather than adopting a pet. Back to channel surfing.
