  1. After the tribe swap, when Probst announced Debbie's trip to Exhile, she turned to start walking and because of the angle, it looked like she was about to walk right into the ocean. For a second, I thought Debbie was just going to be like, "I don't need a boat, Jeff - I'll swim there myself. I swam the English Channel when I was 9, and I won a bronze in the 100m backstroke back in Sydney. ". And because it's Debbie, I wouldn't have been shocked if that actually had happened. Also, even though I think Cochran's an overrated dork, I admire him for not making a face or recoiling when Debbie lunged at him and wouldn't let go. She must have smelled pretty terrible by that point.

    Fix The Show

I love the idea of everyone having an idol, but not being told about it - I think it would be hilarious. And also interesting, if they could combine with another player's to form a super idol. I picture a giant strategy shit show. I'm an old school fan, so I am sick of idols altogether, but I'd enjoy the heck out of this twist. Or, what someone suggested upthread - you play an idol, and there's a consequence. Like maybe something is taken away (food/comfort), or you have to go to exhile (if that's ever a thing again), sit out a reward, etc.
  3. @sourpickles I'm right there with you - started from Season 1, and have never missed an episode - and I'm a far cry from being a teenager :P From my time at TWOP and here at PT, it seems as though the majority of viewers are "long-suffering fans", but it's so easy to get locked into that bubble feeling when you're part of an online community. It's true that WE may have disdain for some of the ridiculous components - social media, Tyraisms, music videos, etc. but it may go over well with the younger demographic and casual viewers. If they hadn't seen Seasons 1-8 (I picked a cut-off at random), they may not know that the show used to be "better". But if you get a chance, definitely check out AUSNTM (especially seasons 3-7). I believe they're on season 10 now, and still cranking out international working models - and the photoshoots are gorgeous and expensive. And to get back on topic: I think the problem is that Tyra has done such a great job of integrating herself into the ANTM brand, that it doesn't work without her. I felt that even though I liked Drew, tolerated Law, and didn't miss Tyrant, I was conscious of her absence, and it felt empty. If she's going to be behind the scenes doing her thing and calling the shots anyway, then I'd rather have her on screen, where I can at least snark on her ridiculousness. What I'd really love, is a spin-off. Maybe a modeling 'boot camp' or school type scenario, where they take younger girls and really develop them. Hire a Coco Rocha or Chanel Iman to host/mentor (no Kardashians/Jenners please) and assemble a credible panel of credible industry experts - photographer, agent, fashion editor, rotating designer/stylist, etc. Keep ANTM as Tyra's vanity project, and let her keep casting old, busted, and bowlegged fame whores who just want 15 minutes on the D-list. Then, go back to basics with a new show that may actually produce models that the industry cares about.
  4. I'm curious to see what the demographic breakdown is for this show. Is it mostly older folks who have watched the show from the beginning? Or do teens really tune in? I understand that they're trying to keep up with industry practices and trends to capture a new generation of viewers, but I feel like it's the equivalent of a dad trying to relate to his teen kids by imitating their slang- desperate and pathetic. I watch AUSNTM, and it's a completely different show - a MUCH better show. So would ANTM really suffer and lose viewers if they lost the cray-cray and went back to being all about modeling, like their international counterparts? Or is it just American culture - that everything needs to be over the top and dramatic? There are so many reality shows where people say they don't want drama, just a focus on the skills being showcased (i.e. modeling, singing, tattoing, fashion design, etc.), but I wonder whether this is just a small part of the population. Maybe most viewers enjoy Tyra's antics, and they'd rather have hamsters who have big personalities even though they aren't really models...? Would love to see stats for the ANTM audience!
  5. The most confusing thing, is that Hali was at the bottom of the tribe after the swap, and most likely would have been voted off if the red tribe went to tribal and there hadn't been a twist. So out of all of Debbie's ranting and raving, that's the part that really made me "WTF?!?!". Well that, and her unflappable defense of her gymnastic abilities, and non-angry(!) exercise routine. Whoever said that Debbie and Philip could be soulmates - I've never read a fanfic, but would 100% pay money for this. Watching that scene with Sarah was painful. I enjoy watching crazies who are delusional about their own abilities, but find it embarrassing to watch people who are just bad players pretending to be genius masterminds. Her scene with Troyzan made me cringe.
  6. My boyfriend and I were both very "WTF" after the Kawan/Malek battle because it seemed like Kawan wasn't even trying - just doing the bare minimum. Malek looked like he was trying too hard to overcompensate, and the whole thing felt awkward. I also would have given Malek the win. Man, John Legend comes across as very uptight. How dare the dude misuse the pronoun of his song! I mean, I get that being prepared is key, but these two guys are singing in front of 2 superstars on camera on a TV show....wouldn't you be nervous and slip up a bit?? IMO, he came across as a bit douchey here, and I haven't seen much warmth from him in other episodes either (even when he was mentoring Gabi, who he previously knew) I think the combo of Alicia's hippy dippy blathering about finding truth and brilliance and DJ Khaled's "woa, that was sick" or "bro, you gotta feel it" make for very poor mentoring. I was glad they showed Alicia working with the band and singing some examples, otherwise based on her performance the last 2 seasons, I would question why she's even here. Tonight was the first time I really felt like Adam should take a break from the show. He seems disinterested, barely present, and his halfhearted joking with Blake has gotten so old, I wouldn't be surprised if it was scripted. Maybe Blake should give his spot to Luke Bryan for a season - I don't listen to country so I'm not familiar with him, but he seems fun, and genuinely digging his mentoring role. Would love to see Ben Folds from Sing Off take Adam's place, but I feel like he's way too technical and dorky. I could see Ed Sheeran doing well as a coach or maybe WillIAM, who's a judge on the UK version.
  7. It just amazes me that you can post quotes, interviews, and examples - and even real footage- and people will still decide that their interpretation of a person's behavior is right - evidence be damned! I don't really care about Malcolm one way or another, but I've never seen any proof that he's a misogynist. He has allied with women of all ages, he has complimented women for being tough competitors and smart strategists, he's referred to his Mother with great respect....I don't recall seeing any footage that shows him being sexist, or any behavior outside the show to support that either. Ditto Brad. And I personally think this applies to every player who has ever played Survivor - you can't judge their actions within the game as having anything to do with who they are outside the game*. It is literally good strategy to vote out those stronger than you, so why wouldn't Malcolm or Brad or whomever, vote out women who they perceived as either physical, social, or jury threats? Women banding together to form an alliance isn't them being man-hating feminazis, and men banding together doesn't mean they're sexist assholes who hate women. These people are doing ANYTHING to get to the end. There are so many factors involved, that it's impossible to tell whether in-game actions are indicative of real-life personality traits and views, or just strategy. (*except Colton - petty sure he just sucks as a human being AND Survivor player). Anyway, re-watched this episode and forgot that Andrea kicked butt in the challenge. Still pulling for her to go far, but her lack of screen time gives me little hope. I think her perky blonde cheerleader persona makes people underestimate her. Girl has game, it's just not being shown.
  8. Yea, I agree that pro athletes don't necessarily have an advantage - they are all retired and past their prime. Sure, they may have that natural athletic gene that makes them "good" at just about anything physical, but there are so many other factors involved in Survivor challenges. They take ideas from popular sport but add a bunch of other elements. And ditto that I'd rather have a young physically fit person on my team than a 45+ guy who used to be good at throwing a ball/bumping into things. I mean, if it's Gary the Landscaper vs. Ozzy or JT, Id pick the latter every time. Maybe my memory needs refreshing, but didn't Jeff Kent totally suck at some of the challenges everyone thought he'd ace? Anyone remember Olympian Crystal from Gabon and her legendary challenge prowess? Lol.
  9. I really don't have a problem with Brad calling Hali 'blue eyes'. It's possible to use a nickname as a sign of affection or friendship - it doesn't necessarily imply sexism. I call my male colleagues all kinds of nicknames and other female workers do as well, so that in itself doesn't make him a douche. Last week's TC he was complimentary to her, so I'm not seeing the blatantly sexist attitude others are. He obviously knows her name. I just don't really have a problem with him - not sure why he inspires so much ire based on what we've seen here and BvW. I'm sorry to see Malcolm go, but I loved this TC and was grinning like an idiot throughout. I'm a sucker for drama, and the show brought it, so I can't hate Jeff for letting it unfold. It DID make for good TV. I've been watching since the first season, and I generally fall into the camp of loving 'old school' survivor where it was just about watching people interact, form relationships, problem solve, etc. - the social experiment. Now, it really is like the Michael Bay produced version of Survivor with the constant one-upping and BIGGEST, BADDEST, MOST AMAZING MOVE EVER, but damn if it isn't entertaining.
  10. Quiz sounds like he's going through puberty. He has that awkward in-between voice that men have right before their voice cracks. For that reason, I didn't care for his performance and I wouldnt have picked him. Felicia's voice is just silk. Happy Blake stole her, and I think she'll do well on his team. Hopefully he doesn't give her dumb cheesy 80's songs like he did Kourtney last season. Brenley looks like Kesha to me, and I thought her performance was a bit frantic. I also find that kind of voice grating, and I thought Lauren was the clear winner there - she has such a mellow tone and lovely lower register. I was beyond frustrated with the Missy/Anatolia pairing, which was so obviously telegraphing an Anatolia win - especially with that song choice. Look, I get that coaches have their favorites going into it, and that some people are fodder, but at least make it seem like it's somewhat balanced and fair. Missy never had a shot, despite her being the clear winner based on voice and performance alone (in my opinion). She did all the heavy lifting on that song, had a lovely tone, and really did the best she could. It was an annoying song choice and got a bit shrill, but I don't blame her for that. I'm over the cutesy tweeny bopper thing, so Anatolia can bounce anytime - I find her very shouty. I'm not even old, but who the hell is DJ Khaled?!?! My bf and I both had to google him. I feel he contributed very little of substance. Lastly, CELINE IS A GODDESS. I've always appreciated her fun-loving dorkiness, and people can make fun of her accent and chest thumping all they want, but she's an absolutely incredible talent. I loved that j-chosen was so starstruck by her - I feel like any real singer should be. P.S Whenever any of the coaches/mentors sing riffs on the show it makes me miss Christina. She would belt out a note or two and just put everyone to shame. Adam's Happy Birthday was embarrassing - as was the little phrase we heard Gwen sing during the auditions.
  11. Yea, I liked the Brad entry myself. After Bvs.W I admit to thinking Brad was a colossal douche, but after this last episode I thought back to WHY I hated him and couldn't think of a single reason. I agree with Mario that Brad may have gotten a raw deal. Anyway, I'm willing to give him a clean slate and see what happens in Game Changers. Also, Ciera sucks, so not seeing why ragging on her is such a crime.
  12. Agreed - really do not like that rule if it's true (not doubting you, slowpoked, just the source). So what if each member of an alliance took turns walking by and trying to pick up the idol to suss out who had the clue - would production stop them every time? Kind of ruins the mystery. Also, wonder what "intervene" means in this case.
  13. The thing is re: goat killing, that while on an intellectual level people can appreciate that it's hypocritical to be horrified, it's almost always an emotional reaction that you can't really help. And for those who haven't been raised on farms, hunting, etc., it's a visceral response because we don't have that same insight into the butchering process - food shows up on a plate and we eat it. But when you see the goats hopping around and being all cute and goat-like, you immediately form an emotional attachment. It'd be different if they went on reward and were served roasted goat; there probably wouldn't be any complaints about that. The fact that it's televised is a major factor too. I don't care if you hunt or raise farm animals to slaughter - I just don't want to see it on my TV!
  14. Wait, why was it ignorant and short-sighted? I'm a Michaela fan, but she had just outed herself as being smarter than the average bear, and they knew a merge was coming. Also, I would not want Michaela on any jury (too bitter), especially if I were Jay. You can hate the move because it got someone you like voted out, but I hardly think it was ignorant
  15. Remember in Gabon when those morons decided to kill and eat that poor turtle? I know it's hypocritical, but I give zero fucks about eating chicken or fish - I do, however, have a huge problem with eating goats, boars, turtles, etc. ESPECIALLY when these people have rice, fruit, vegetables, and an ocean full of seafood to eat. It's just not necessary. I didn't even like that they chased after and tied up the goats - why do you have to interrupt these animals in their natural habitat? I'm not some tree-hugging vegan, but I hate that they even handled the goats to begin with- especially the baby. Unnecessary! Also, I am confused. Brad Culpepper......he didn't suck. Like, I watched this episode just waiting to shout obscenities at my screen, but then... PLOT TWIST! Brad Culpepper decorates the camp and tells us about his love of antiquing. He refers to Hali not as some naive, ditzy girl but as a "budding attorney" and gives her props on how well she's acquitting herself at TC. He has a convo with Tai and gently persuades him to change his vote using subtle manipulation. I mean, granted, it's Tai, but still - I feel Like Brad Culpepper is slowly morphing into Fasier Crane. Just watch, next episode he'll tell us he has box seats at the opera and buys vintage sherry. After seeing his dorky little skip+song, I'm officially on the Malcolm bandwagon. Still does nothing for me physically, but he's a cute person. Also, on a shallow note - has Sierra had work done? Her face looks very off to me. Like she's had fillers in her face and lips. Not even going to mention The Eyebrows....
  16. I'm praying to any deity who will listen that this boot order is wrong. I know that players change, and it could still be a dynamite season, but nothing about the final 3 - or hell, even the final 5- makes me want to tune in. This one's going to be a real struggle. Bring on the newbies in #35!
  17. Tony is one of my favorite "characters", so I'm disappointed by his boot. I've always been annoyed by Ciera, and I think she's way too cocky; she always speaks in this smug tone that implies she's some strategic mastermind. Glad she was the first one gone. I've always enjoyed Sandra as a character AND as a player, but I'm liking her less now....Unless she's purposely making herself into a goat by broadcasting her "queen" status, in which case I question her strategy. I usually like All-star seasons but this one made me feel zero excitement. I'm sick of these people; even the ones I like - Malcolm, Cirie, Varner, etc. I just don't want to see them on Survivor anymore. We've seen their stories, we know who they are....it's just not interesting. Someone upthread mentioned a season of "Crazies", and now I DESPERATELY want this to be a thing. Can you imagine Philip and Debbie comparing notes on working in the "Federal service" and trying to one-up the other? And then throw in Coach, Tony, J'Tia, Judd, Shane, Natalie Bolton, Matt the machete-sharpening weirdo from Amazon all on one tribe?!?! That would be my Survivor dream. Also, even though I don't find Malcolm or Joe physically attractive, I disagree that Malcolm has no personality - I actually find Joe fairly bland and lacking gameplay, but Malcolm has always been a pretty aggressive player and quite sarcastic/witty. I fell off the Ozzy train in Micronesia when he gave that god-awful speech at FT about his love for Amanda, but he looks bloated here. I'm here for Michaela, Aubry, Malcolm, and Andrea.
  18. Haven't seen the episode yet, but wasn't she a contestant from several years back? Back-up singer for Michael Jackson, I think. Did something happen to her?
  19. Ok, but it's awfully convenient that this "snafu" occurred on the last award, which is also the most coveted, and this year in particular, there was a lot of social/political drama leading up between the two movies that the "mistake" happened to. How does the envelope system work - you'd think that since it's the LAST award of the night, they wouldn't be picking from a stack, they'd be tossing the ones that were already read out (if there are in fact 2 sets of envelopes for either side of the stage), so by my common sense, there was 1 envelope left to give to the presenter. Since they make such a big freaking deal about security, and chaining the briefcase, and counting the votes and checking a million times, how is it possible that this whole process was so sloppy - sloppy enough that someone could have made a mistake? I get it if it was your office Secret Santa pool, and two names got picked twice because Cheryl from Accounting accidentally wrote duplicates, but this is the OSCARS. It's never happened before - why now??? Again, why in a year where there was a ton of pressure from a racial perspective, was it a mistake between Lala and Moonlight, and why this particular award? Why did this not happen to Short Film or Sound Editing? The ratings have been failing for awhile now - maybe they saw how much press the Steve Harvey incident got and thought it would add to the Oscar hype. It just sounds so unbelievably sketchy to me.
  20. If anyone watches Australias Next Top Model, this exact same thing happened in their season finale - the host announced the wrong winner and then awkwardly had to "take back" the title and give it to the runner-up. Was great fun. This legit looks like a setup to create buzz and get retweets. Why would WB get the lead actress envelope? Why would there have been more than one?
  21. I don't know why, but I find it very annoying when young actresses get up to the stage all breathless and rambling. I know they're probably nervous/excited, but you'd think they'd have more composure in this business. Editors sometimes have more poise! Anyway, I don't like Emma Stone, and I'm probably alone in that opinion, so I'll see myself out!
  22. Subjective- but I think it's crap to dismiss someone's work just because ALLEGATIONS have been made against them. I love Denzel, but found him lacking in Fences. To me it felt phoned in.
  23. Innocent until proven guilty, y'all. He was terrific, and he deserved it.
