  1. Add me to the list - also July 13 :) I'm with you on this. I loved Babs in the 76 version, and I think this remake is completely pointless and unnecessary. Also, I find Gaga insufferable (despite liking her music), so I hope they don't win a single thing for these very petty reasons. Also, I have not seen the movie, so my opinion is completely irrelevant.
  2. HE'S 76 - that's nuts! Also, while cranky sometimes, he still has a pretty sharp sense of humor. Fun fact: When I was 12, I had the biggest crush on Harrison (he was like, 55 at the time), and when all my friends had posters of NSYNC and Jonathon Taylor Thomas on their bedroom walls, I had posters of Harrison Ford in all his middle-aged glory. Anytime I had a sleepover, my fellow 6th graders thought I was super weird.
  3. Jeff Bridges was quite the babe when he was younger. I've only ever known him as a middle aged-older guy, but he was pretty handsome. .....And now I realized that my only contribution to this thread has been to point out hot guys. I am ashamed.
  4. YES! Christian Bale is my version of the girl from Seinfeld who Jerry dated, and she looked really good only in some lighting, but awful in other lighting. Sometimes Christian Bale is smoking hot to me, and other times I think "why did I think that guy was smoking hot?" I think his weight fluctuation has something to do with it. I like him better when he's beefier. The Prestige and Dark Knight eras were best, I think.
  5. I love that Christian Bale's wife looks genuinely worried that he's going to say something awful, lol.
  6. I really want to believe that Idris and Steve Carrell ran into each other backstage and had a mini Office reunion.
  7. On another thread, people are calling him out for objectifying her, but I think it showed remarkable restraint on her part to not objectify the SHIT out of him. I mean, I pretty much dry humped my computer screen the second he came out, so I guess I'm guilty as well.....
  8. I moved to Canada from Poland when I was 5, and I used to watch re-runs of the Carol Burnett show when I first got here. I couldn't speak English and didn't understand anything, but you really didn't need to - Carol was hilarious. I'm so happy for her, and she looks fantastic.
  9. OMG, Carlot Burnett looking all tear-eyed and verklempt has me sobbing in my shitty armchair.
  10. I think I would have preferred to see her host as Yang. I too always thought she was like that in real life, and I'm a bit disappointed to see her all perky and bubbly.
  11. For me it was Alan Rickman :( ......now I'll take any combination of Ripert, Madden, and Morgan Freemon.
  12. I like RIchard Madden, but the show overall is not great. I think Matthew Rhys should have taken it.
  13. I'm loving the HFPA coverage instead of the E!Red Carpet shit show (bye, Giuliana). The hosts are much better, and they're having more interesting discussions with the attendees - more genuine. It helps that Yvette Nicole Brown and Missi Pyle know some of their interviewees personally, and are able to have authentic interaction with them.
  14. The fashion this year is so bad. Either completely boring, or just weird for the sake of weird. I remember watching these shows when I was younger and coveting all the gorgeous dresses, but this year there isn't a single one where I'm like "ooooh, I'd love to wear that". That being said, I appreciate that Janelle Monae has a distinct aesthetic, and she sticks to it. Not always my cuppa tea, but I respect it all the same.
  15. They really should just do a Kids season and have it be for vocalists under 16 or 18. Then they should raise the age limit for the regular seasons and let everyone else compete. As much as I think that Kennedy, We, Danielle Bradbury, Sawyer, Jacquie Lee, et al had great voices, I also think they weren't ready. Having a good voice isn't all it takes, and in all of these cases the singers lacked emotional maturity, depth, technique, and consistency. Look at Brynn from last season - in the span of a single song she'd go from pitchy and awful to sounding really good. And her performances were all over the place. I'd much rather watch more seasoned artists who have been doing this for a while. People may not like someone like Dave, but at least he's always on key. I'd much rather listen to someone who has flawless pitch and knows their dynamics for every single performance, than a 14 year old girl who gets lucky here and there, but doesn't know what to do with their voice yet.
  16. All I'm gonna say, is that Kelly Clarkson performed "I Surrender" on American Idol Season 1 when she had laryngitis - and did a damn good job. Bo Bice and Carrie Underwood also famously performed even though they were very ill (Bo was vomiting seconds before he took the stage). I remember watching some documentary about Christina Aguilera when she was much younger, and she had the flu and could barely stand. A doctor came up to her hotel room, gave her a shot, she rested for an hour or two, and then got up and performed an entire 3-4 hour concert, because she didn't want to disappoint fans. Freddie Mercury recorded an entire album while he was literally dying - and had to prop himself up on a desk while he sang. I know Raegan is young, but she's old enough to compete in a national talent competition. Being "sick" is not an excuse at this level - the show must always go on. Also, she was atrocious last night. I think it may be the worst performance in Voice history (at least tied for first place). I can't help but don my tinfoil hat and think that the producers had something to do with the whole "she's sick" angle, to a) explain why she sucked so bad last night and b) garner sympathy and therefore votes. Then again, I'm not so sure what a set up like this would accomplish :/ Fuck Adam.
  17. I can't stand Gabby, and I'm ok for Christian to go too. His Sheldon Cooper shtick was cute and fun at first, but is really starting to grate. I feel like he's actually very aware of how "precious" he comes across, and some of his lines or 'explanations' feel very forced. And I know exactly what the other poster meant re: Gabby being a walking stereotype for hysterical women. It's perfectly fine to be emotional and to admit your weaknesses, but Gabby doesn't just do that - she purposely paints herself as a victim and then goes crying to Christian to 'save' her. Remember that pathetic convo they had when they were drawing in the sand earlier this season? She put on this little girl affectation and was acting like some helpless porcelain doll that Christian had to protect. Barf. I don't blame Carl for saying she was hysterical, because she often is. When she's not crying, she has these weird outbursts during her conversations with people. It's like she can't keep her shit together, and it's awkward and cringey to watch. I was loving Alec by his vote-out - he was great casting. Not a sterotypical bro/douche, not a predictable player, had good social gameplay as well as physical - he was fun to watch. Davie and Nick are my guys now, and I really hope they get to the end. I'd be ok with Christian joining them, despite finding him annoying, because I think he earned it. I really want to like Alison, but I haven't seen anything great from her thus far. Kara was my least favorite on Episode 1, but I've really come around on her too. She's smart, a bit ruthless, and has gotten into a really good position - plus she has a solid relationship with everyone on the jury. I wouldn't be mad if she made F3 either. Surprisingly, I also really enjoy Angelina. She's a hot mess, but makes for great TV, and I respect that she's playing hard. Actually, I didn't even mind Carl, even though his edit wasn't great this episode. The cast as a whole has been really good; savvy players, nice people, not angry/bitter, etc.
  18. SNL has really gone downhill, so I can't root for them. Portlandia and Drunk History are both funnier, smarter, and more entertaining to watch.
  19. I don't know who Hannah Gadsby is, but she is awful. (lol, funny that the comment above is saying the opposite! Different strokes, I guess :P)
  20. I don't think Dinklage had very good material this season, and that's the only reason I'm disappointed with his win. I was also rooting for Nikolaj, who has really become a powerhouse on that show. And that's not easy when you're always going toe to toe with Lena Heady.
  21. I teared up with Bourdain, but lost it with John Mahoney. I've been re-watching Frasier for the 200th time this week, and he is just so perfect. It was my favorite show as a kid, and I feel like I lost a grandfather when he passed. This In Memorium was hard, y'all.
  22. But he was in the top 10 on itunes, so I don't think it was his selection that did him in - it was that Kaleb and Spensha also got the multiplier. I'm thinking it was his Twitter save song choice that got him bounced- unless that's what you were referring to. He also showed a better tone in Save the World, so I was hoping that would come out again - NOPE. I like the dude, but he seems stubborn as fuck about growling through everything.
  23. Britton made it to #10, and I think he may get higher - he was the last to perform and keeps soaring up. Surprised that Pryor is doing so well, but not unhappy about it. He's at 16 now, and one up on Spensha. I think it's going to be a bloodbath for 4th place (assuming that Kyla, Brynn and Britton tie up 1-3).
  24. I've never been a Spensha fan, but she did sound good on "Rise Up", which just affirms my belief that she is in the wrong genre re: country. She did not sound nearly as good in any of her countrified performances. Kyla is wonderful in every way, and it would be a tragedy if she didn't win. Totally agree with the poster above re: Brynn not being able to carry a song. She doesn't have much stamina and control, because what I get from her are 10-15 seconds that are great, and then everything else is kind of messy. She has a cool tone, but I don't think she's really learned what to do with her voice yet from a technical perspective. I am so frustrated with Pryor. I started off loving him, but with every song I just want to shake him and tell him to use his non growly voice, and to save the growls for the key moments. The guy does not understand dynamics. When he sang in his regular voice tonight, it was really good. I just don't understand why he can't use that tone for all of his songs, and then throw in the grittiness as a special effect. GAH. If Britton was going to do Springsteen, I really wanted him to do "I'm On Fire". The kid is super good, but I'm losing a bit of interest in him. Not sure why. Maybe he needs to do something a little out of his wheelhouse to shake it up. Jackie was horrible. Hot, hot mess. Biggest surprise was Kaleb, who I've always found very bland and did not understand what was special or good about his voice. If he had started off singing like that, I think he'd be a bigger contender. I love Rayshun unabashedly. The dude just makes me smile, and I love his theatrics and showmanship. I also love his voice, but I'm the kind of person who adores Screamin' Jay Hawkins and his brand of spazziness and shouting, so I guess it's a personal thing. I don't think he should win, but I would like to see him move forward. My Ideal Top 4: Kyla, Britton, Rayshun, Pryor (only if he cuts that shit out and sings pretty) Who I think will go through: Britton, Brynn, Spensha, Kaleb
  25. Am I the only one struggling to differentiate between Monet, Monique, and Asia when they're in drag? They have such similar face shapes and makeup techniques, and even their shticks are similar....though outside of drag they're clearly 3 different people. Though I swear, if Bob the Drag Queen were to make a surprise cameo, I would just be confused forever and assume one queen had been cloned 3 times. Are we SURE Bob didn't come back for a second go around...? I like Eureka in general, but this is probably the least funny she's been. I thought Miz Cracker seemed funnier in rehearsals and when she was talking about the performance, than the performance itself. I really thought she was going to whip out the Jewish NYC accent too. Disappointed. Still, she was the most fun to watch, and I LOVE her confessionals and ad libs on the runway. I don't normally like the weird queens, but I find her delightful. Aquaria can go yesterday.
