  1. Thanks @bmasters9. I only read the NYTimes online and there tagline isn't there. I think it should be. Of course digital is not "print" but in the age of online conspiracy theories the need to be "fit to print" has never been more important.
  2. Good luck with your appointment @TattleTeeny! I remember that I posted here about my credit card being hacked and having to change all kinds of recurring payments. Now another one has been hacked! I swear I am a careful person. I have to go to my records now and see what card I am charging my prescriptions to. Among other things . Can't believe this.
  3. I seem to see that a lot with kindle books. I have to wonder if it's some kind of software glitch that happens when they translate the text to whatever Kindle is based on. I used to scan magazine texts sometimes for one of my jobs and it never came out perfectly.
  4. I really liked the vet episode. Just the right mix of multiple suspects and comic relief with Frodo and his pet. I particularly liked the scene where Chalmers was in the office and one person after the other gave him the exact same runaround. I did kind of suspect the killer though as the show went on though I wasn't at first sure why. Missy's been a great addition to the show I think. The actress is funny and she gives Chalmers someone to relate to and trade quips with. I wonder how long Mike's marital status will hang in the air. When Beth said she didn't want to play footsie I didn't think she was talking about Hercules!
  5. What made me think of it is that apparently there is no word for "hot flashes" in Japanese. Again, this is purely speculation on my part. But there are good reasons not to eat a lot of meat.
  6. I never thought I'd talk about this online but: I had terrible cramps for decades and then when it came to Menopause? Not a single hot flash or night sweat or cramp or anything. My tentative theory is that I stopped eating meat most of the time but who knows.
  7. Haven't watched yet but as far as cameos go, I'd love to see Marsha Warfield come back as Roz. But who knows, maybe even John Astin as Buddy?
  8. I was talking to my family over video and heard loud thunder out the window at least four times here in the city. It's been absolutely awful all weekend. My Ipad was telling me that my neighborhood was in a "flood zone", a bit of hyperbole fortunately. Still I am happy not to be out there walking in it. It's been really cold too, with temps in the low 50s and feeling like the 40s at times. It should be a lot nicer in maybe a week.
  9. I agree with all the above, he should be reported, In the meantime, you can get a locksmith to put a deadbolt on your door that you can lock on the inside. Call today before it gets to be night time so they will come today. Also 311 may have advice.
  10. @oliviabenson is there somewhere you can stay overnight? Or go to the nearest policeman and report him?
  11. I think my best looking doctor was my dentist. He was pretty handsome. Unfortunately he's semi retired so I don't see him in the office anymore. They say he rarely comes around. How time flies I guess!
  12. My smart TV turning into a dumb TV today. In the middle of the day the remote, which had 2 new batteries, decided not to power on or off, change volume, input, whatever. The only thing I could do was run my Tivo from the Tivo remote, but then the volume went dead on Tivo. Somewhere in that time I tried removing the TV batteries and re-inserting them, the pressing the power button for a long time. Nothing. Then Sony mysteriously did a reboot. Still no sound on Tivo. Then in the evening the TV volume suddenly came back on. Then TV remote goes back to working. Meanwhile I figured out the Tivo to Sony remote control code so now I should have another working remote. Until tomorrow?
  13. Yes it may not really be the end of Abby/Neil. Not saying that I'm hoping for it, but I can't stand Pete Holmes at all so I hope Abby at least does break up with Rand. The funniest part was Dan trying to get one of the prisoners to throw the drink at him and the actor failing at it. It was funny to see Bearded Guy again - I missed his first name, but isn't his middle name Marilyn? Hopefully they will start to have more in court characters and scenes. Right now I don't think there's much more to be gained with all the "personal" story lines.
  14. Not going to say much yet because I've only seen episode 1 of Season 12 but I'm sorry to see Malcolm go. Of course he was obnoxious but he and Vera had so many memorable exchanges in a dark kind of way. Will have to see how the new coroner works out.
  15. I feel like I'm having a similar issue. Decluttering is tough for me, especially living in a NY apartment where there isn't a lot of space and you pretty much have to mail donations to get anyone to take them. It occurred to me this week though that maybe I could give away some of my unopened photo chemicals. What with my vasculitis and also some recent pulmonary issues I don't think I should expose myself to them again for the foreseeable future. I did email two places in town to see if they or their students might want them for their darkrooms. One was kind enough to send me a polite no. If I don't hear from the other, I guess I will have to haul this stuff to the next Safe Disposal Event in June.
  16. Tacos Grand Central. The quesadilla was okay though. Barnachos was even worse, the sent the nachos ingredients in separate packages so I had all this liquidy cheese all over the place making a mess.
  17. Funny (not ha ha) that this should come up but I just ordered a Seamless delivery after being tired from laundry day. My favorite Mexican place, Baby Bo's Cantina in midtown Manhattan, went under around last November and I simply cannot find a decent substitute. Thanks to Seamless I paid about $25 for an adequate cheese quesadilla and an awful serving of nachos. Why can't these restaurants make nachos by, you know, heating the whole thing up and not dumping warm cheese on cold chips? I know that restaurants really suffered during Covid here, but now between delivery prices and the outside seating still taking up half the sidewalk it's all getting pretty irritating.
  18. I actually worked for a Film Society for a good 15 years so I did see some unusual and classic and sometimes really strange movies, but not nearly as many as I could have I suppose. I must have been the only staff member who never programmed anything. I especially love the art of silent film because it's so different as a means of expression, not only the silence but the fact the film often wasn't made at natural speed but could be sped up or slowed down according to what the creators wanted. I"m a big fan of The Silent Comedy Watch Party with Ben Model and Steve Massa on Youtube. They still have a new episode about every month. The last film I have seen in a theater? It may have been Werner Herzog's 3D movie about the cave paintings (not making this up).
  19. I have a question about the second show. So apparently Gaia wasn't really Gaia? And her own mother couldn't figure that out? And Mike et al. didn't even question in passing then that maybe the mom might be part of the scam? Not saying she was, just odd that it didn't come up. Or did I miss something?
  20. I'm sure the musical was meant to be deliberately awful, but aside from getting to see Frodo dance I was really wishing the opening would have been cut in half timewise. It kind of reminded me of sitcoms staging a musical episode so the regulars get a chance to sing and dance for a change. Not sure why they thought the Statue of Liberty was a good idea either though it made sense as the thing that finally drove Missy away. I really liked Missy in her first appearance in the otherwise awful cowgirl themed episode, and was hoping they could bring her back for more scenes with Chalmers. Then when I thought she might be the killer I was really annoyed. Fortunately she wasn't so I hope she comes back. Great to see Dennis Buchanan again. His twisted legal logic always makes me laugh. I could have done without Ralph coming back, though, he makes my skin crawl. I miss Mrs. Marlowe and Jarod too.
  21. They seem to run the Torchy Blaines every few months, I think I"ve seen all the ones with Glenda Farrell.
  22. It apparently went up to 88 here in NYC today. Way too soon. However it's quickly dropping back down to the 60s tomorrow for the foreseeable future. I wish that the rain wasn't coming with it though!

Djoko losing to the brilliant young Italian Lorenzo Musetti is the best thing to happen all year for me! Lorenzo had been really struggling for awhile, and I hope this will give him the confidence boost he needs to keep improving. Can't wait to watch on replay.
  24. I read the NY Times, Washington Post, Guardian and other newspapers online. I have a bad habit though of subscribing to a fine art monthly and then forgetting to download it. Let's see, there's Medium Format Photography, Aperture and the Noir City Newsletter that I get for donating to Eddie Muller's Film Noir Foundation... Some of these were the subs I had to check when my credit card got hacked but fortunately I had put most of them on Paypal anyway.
  25. I worked at a fine arts organization and when I left after 15 years was told that they "don't give references". I ended up getting two, one from my former executive director (at that place) and another from a co-worker who joked "What are they going to do, fire me?" This was about 17 years ago though.
