I only saw the first set - sometimes all this just gets too nerve-wracking - but I have to wonder if it hurt Frances that he was playing his first night match. Maybe he would haven't had so many issues with his first serve if he'd gotten more used to the conditions, the lights etc. However this is total speculation on my part. I do hope he gets another chance and goes onto win a major someday. I have to think that Carlos is the favorite tomorrow but I suppose Casper might surprise us.
  2. I'm clearly in a minority but I love cilantro. However I haven't made a dinner with it for quite awhile. Speaking of dinner - I am frustrated. I've had a reliable 20 inch Hotpoint gas range/oven for 8 years and now it's taking so long to heat up properly that it's clearly not working. I have to have a service person come in. I remember having to get rid of my previous GE oven when it was running so hot they told me not to turn it on, now this one is so cool that it's barely warming a meal after almost an hour. Hoping they will fix it Wednesday. On the subject of Amazon, I don't think I've ever received someone else's package, but one time they sent me a whole slew of AA batteries instead of one set and another time I ordered a set of plastic food storage containers that came without the lids. Both times they told me to keep them.
  3. This is exactly what many film fans are worried about concerning classic movies. Even fairly recent films can disappear, sometimes due to legal ownership issues, I imagine other times due to neglect. Of course nothing compares to what happened to the silent era with the majority of feature films lost or otherwise destroyed or decomposed due to the flammable and unstable nitrate composition.

About the fist pumping, I can see getting excited in a big match, but yes it really looked bad with Carlos *and his box* working up the crowd after Jannik absolutely gave the game away with errors while serving for the match. I am willing to cut Carlos some slack at 19 but if he's still doing this in 5 years I don't think it will look so cute. And frankly JCF shouldn't be encouraging this. On that note, I *hate* this legal coaching that's been added to the Open. It's a major distraction to hear certain coaches, not to mention physios and whoever else is in the box, shouting out instructions in the middle of the match. It's bad for the players who should be thinking for themselves and I find it really distracting as a viewer. That said, it was a really great match. I had to watch the last 2 hours on my computer on mute, I do have neighbors! But it was dramatic. I still am hoping Tiafoe will win this, but any of the 4 men left are likeable enough!

I discussed this over on the tennis Reddit page. this is typical US Open behavior. They indeed gave Kyrgios the showtime night match slot in every single round, which was totally undeserved compared to the higher ranked players. It’s all about box office and hype to them. They also put Sharapova on the showtime courts back when she was coming back from her drug suspension. They don’t care about fair play. I just think they are trying to elevate him above his actual achievements.
  6. I remember losing the Roku remote also one time after watching a long show or movie and remembered that I had a Roku remote app on my phone. But the problem was that I had to program the Roku settings to accept it. For which I needed the remote! But I did program the setting for the app for the future.

I’m in the anyone but Kyrgios camp as well especially after the accusations that have come out against him. I’d like to see any of Tiafoe, Berrettini Or Alcaraz take it. I wonder what will happen between Alcaraz and Sinner. Carlos has had a lot of losses lately to the Italians, including in the final back in July to my fave young player Lorenzo Musetti. Will Sinner keep It going or will Carlos break through? The women’s side looks exciting as well especially if we get a new champion although I like Iga. Coco or Ons would be exciting.

I didn’t see the end of the match live, but from the clips it looked to me that Frances didn’t go OTT celebrating. In fact the ESPN hosts mentioned that. I have to say that from what I’ve seen Alcaraz, whom I also like, does a lot more fist pumping these days. Anyway congrats to Tiafoe. Big win for him. So Chris McEndry twice said that “younger players” beat the top two seeds? Kyrgios is older than Medvedev.
  9. They are projecting a high of 97 tomorrow in New York City. Seriously, I think this will be about the fifth day in a row of this.
  10. Is the permanent daylight savings thing a done deal? I thought it had to be passed by the House after it ran through the Senate with no opposition (because some people weren't there or weren't paying attention). Personally I hate the idea. If they want to get rid of the time change I think it should be standard all year. Growing up and in fact most of my life I would have said that summer was my favorite time of year, and the point about getting dark early is a good one, I just hate it when it's dark at 4 pm or so. But to add to the other comments above, these recent heat waves in the Northeast (I'm in NYC) are just horrible and it's far from over. I had thought I was going to have to replace my "portable" AC (the kind with the hose that goes to the window) because it was barely cooling at all but when I went to replace the filters I found that the hose had come loose. Fixed that, and now I'm fine in the apartment more or less but hate the idea of going out in this cement city.
  11. Yes I seem to remember the undertaker from Over Her Dead Body in which the famous poet faked his death and a young woman's body was found in his casket. I like the progress with Gina's character also. I hope that if Mike and Beth break up she doesn't go back to stalking him. I believe a Season 9 is in the works for this show.
  12. I happened to visit the show’s website which linked to their Facebook page. There was a post there stating that Elizabeth McCrae, who plays Mrs. Marlowe, decided to leave the show after Season Seven. Sad to read but apparently she is fine, maybe retiring. She will be missed! She really provided some of the most memorable moments of the show. I wasn’t too impressed with the nugget episode either, the leading female guest stars were pretty dull I agree though I liked Missy and her comical run ins with Chalmers - is there a future between those two? - and I also like what they are doing with Gina accepting Mike having Beth in his life, and Gina suddenly befriending Kristen in response. Nice twist.
  13. There are 6 episodes scheduled for Season 8 according to this page Jared was played by Pana Hemu Taylor, he did some work for Mike at his home and was often featured in various episodes though not as a detective. He did help out Mike in solving some questions though, for instance in The Dark Angel.
  14. Given Mike's multiple marriage history it's certainly possible he has a child that hasn't been mentioned previously. There has been mention of his sister and nephew before. I miss Jared also! I don't think he's made an appearance since the duck episode.
  15. No appearances from any of the semi regulars in Season 8, Episode 3. The story did have some interesting characters, but not a whole lot of humor unfortunately. A nice guest dog though! I miss Mrs. Marlowe also, perhaps they are still taking precautions due to Covid with older cast members.
  16. Actually yes @shapeshifter Part D does have a deductible. What I get is timolol 0.5 gfs, gel solution, 90 days worth. I think there is a generic version out there but I am not sure what it is, I will have to ask the doctor. @StatisticalOutlier I checked and my last wellness visit aka physical back in November was no charge to me. As far as the supplement goes I've only had it since May 1, so it hasn't applied to all my claims but I will see what happens for the ones that haven't actually charged me yet. There may be a deductible involved there also.
  17. Yes, I have Part D and also a discount drug card that came with Part G. Neither seems to help. Thanks The eye drops cost is still a mystery. I may ask the eye doctor about it next time I see him.
  18. Just one comment about the annual physical under Medicare. The first time I had mine with my doctor, the office apparently didn't code it as a "wellness visit" which is what Medicare insists on calling it. They tried to charge me over $500. I notified the office and after some wrangling the fee was reduced to the very small "wellness" charge. No problem since. I do live in New York by the way, in regard to some of the other issues. I've recently had a couple of xrays and an ultrasound to figure out why I was having a lot of pain in my left thigh and am being charged very little although whether Part G is helping there I'm not sure. (The pain is much less since I've had a lot of PT fortunately.) Drug costs are outrageous I agree. I take eyedrops (timolil) and can't get anyone to fill it for less than $100 though I swear they used to be closer to $10. Fortunately the little bottles last a very long time.

  20. I've watched only Season 8 Episode 1, tonight. Enjoyable comeback episode. I have to say that the extended opening featuring the return of the Oades boys had me thinking of Larry, Daryl and Daryl. That said, I did like the way the story ultimately played out. It was interesting without being too obvious although I strongly suspected the guilty party well ahead of time. I miss Mrs. Marlowe as well! I hope she will be returning. I have to say though that I always love a scene with the dreaded attorney Dennis Buchanan, I just find him hilarious although he didn't have as many classic lines as in the past. As far as the message on Mike's phone goes, I hope/think it's not from Gina. He still seems awkward in her presence for good reason!

Am I losing my mind or were McEnroe and Fowler praising Joker for handling "off the court" issues this year? You mean refusing to get vaccinated against Covid like every other player, going out in public after testing positive, lying to trying to get into Australia after said refusal, that kind of thing? How can they make statements like that with a straight face? How is any of that not totally his doing? By the way under current US law he will still not be eligible to play the US Open, are they going to try to make that not his fault as well? Sorry for Sinner, but I do think the young players have a great disadvantage in the lack of experience in best of 5 matches. Maybe the experience will come with time.

Here's the BBC clip of the parade of champions event. It was so great for me to see Borg, Edberg and Federer especially! So many great memories. It seemed odd to me at first that they started with one time champions, two time champions but then it made sense as it built up to Roger the 8 time champ. Sad that Martina the 9 time champ got Covid and couldn't make it. It did seem so random to see Martina Hingis who was once so dominant next to Goran the ultimate out of nowhere champ. Nice though to see Petra, Simona and Angie Kerber though only Simona's still in the event. Of all the clips the most memorable was probably Jana Novatna crying on the Duchess' shoulder. At least she came back to win in a later year. Venus looked great! Too bad she and Jamie Murray lost that close match in the mixed.
  23. @laredhead, if I remember correctly it was implied that they were former lovers. Usually the best thing to do is to re-watch any scene with Mrs. Marlowe, she always seems to reveal the relevant gossip especially about past events. Looking forward to seeing this show again! Not all mysteries can combine humor with sympathetic characters as this one does.

I didn't see the match but Bublik is certainly known for...shall we say uneven play to the max. And he has admitted not loving tennis. As far as I know underarm serves are not technically against the rules though. I did see Alcarez again today and it's stunning how quickly he is adapting his game to grass. I can see him someday turning into an absolutely dominant player without ever becoming boring.
