  1. Yes, there were 3 Iron Chefs Japanese it turns out. Iron Chef Italian was Masahiko Kobe. I read that he sadly passed away after a fall at his restaurant.
  2. Iron Chef (Japan) is also streaming on Peacock if that's any help. Most of the eps I have seen are pre-Morimoto. I didn't realize how late in the show's run he joined as Iron Chef Japan.
  3. I finished The Art of Crime on MHZ, at any rate the 5 seasons they are showing. Apparently there is at least another season planned. Those who can't stand "will they or won't they" may get turned off, but I enjoyed the episodes with their artist based themes overall (however the Egyptian episode was pretty weak to me, though it did somewhat address the story of Florence's mother). The final episode of Season 5 was really excellent, involving a victim who left clues based on color codes corresponding to parts of paintings of Delacroix, and a young boy with an amazing memory. I've gone on to Capitaine Marleau, an MHZ series also from France about an eccentric woman detective. I've seen the first two episodes and they were good 90 minute stories with fine casts including some well known French stars.

    The NBA

I wish TNT would run Inside the NBA during the finals even if they can't carry the games. I'm going to miss Charles on this show so much whenever he retires.

Thanks @dcalley for the link. Not that I expect too much from Peacock, but I'm disappointed that their coverage is basically only weekends with little more than NBC. But at least there's no chance of getting Chris Fowler this time with Mary Carillo and Johnny Mac!
  7. Update on The Art of Crime, I just watched Season 2's Two Parter A Wounded Man. Excellent episode but -- warning, don't turn it off until you see the credits.
  8. Speaking of one-season shows, I really enjoyed The Good Guys with Bradley Whitford and Colin Hanks. Whitford's senior agent was caught in his past "glory days" and there was entertaining use of music, one episode even using the Stones' version of "You Can't Always Get What You Want"! (which would never be allowed in syndication I suspect, if the show had lasted that long) I see the show is on Prime, I still have one three episodes I purchased.
  9. I've also subscribed to the pay version of MHZ, and my new nightly show is The Art of Crime. I really enjoy having a show that deals with art every week, and I get to see how much of my high school French I can still remember. I like all the characters/actors though my favorite is Florence's eccentric and cranky art-expert father. I hope they keep finding reasons to keep him around. The stories have been decent I think in that I don't generally guess what's going to happen ahead of time. I have to say though that the first 2-parter of Season 2 with its subplot with the beautiful, compulsive thief - felt at one point like something out of Leverage. She even was blonde like Parker!
  10. It's funny hearing Wednesday tossing around that 60s slang as well!
  11. Probably some of you fans already know this, but I have read that John Astin came up with the famous "finger snap" in the theme song after a stint in the chorus of West Side Story. Just loved those 60s theme songs/introductions, they always let you know what the show was about. Now they get cut for more commercials.
  12. Thanks so much for posting this, it's wonderful.

Yes it is amazing how quickly Carlos has come along. Again, he's certainly exciting to watch, though I have to feel a little sorry for Casper. But they do both seem to be nice guys.

I've been watching Miami also and while I realize that the logo is supposed to be a bouncing tennis ball, it keeps reminding me of a Slinky. Yes I'm old. I'm sorry I wasn't able to watch Iga vs Naomi, but I just can't make myself shell out for Tennis Channel these days, though they have some good commentators. I'm sorry for tennis that Barty has retired but I hope she will be happy with her life. And of course the travel has been much worse for Australians, especially with Covid. I'm sometimes resistant to all the hype new players get, but I will say that Carlos Alcaraz just plays one exciting match after another. How dominant he will turn out to be, who knows but he definitely brings the drama, and in a good way.
  15. I've been lately watching a Youtube feature called "Ask Eddie" where Film Noir fans write into Eddie Muller, host of Noir Alley on TCM, and a version of this question came up. His answer was, as I understood it, to do with movie rights. TCM doesn't own everything they show. They pay to rent a certain number of movies in a certain amount of time, and therefore, apparently, feel the need to get their money's worth out of the number that they have paid for in that amount of time. He also said, if I remember correctly, that he chooses films for Noir Alley by looking over the list that TCM provides. Which is not to say personally that I don't understand the complaint myself, a lot of the time I see the same old standards on TCM and think "again?" but there is a certain economic situation at play in some cases. "Ask Eddie" is a fun watch by the way.
  16. I used to watch a Canadian "Border Patrol" show which featured various people being questioned at the Canadian border. One of the less dramatic ones was an American film director who was carrying a large amount of cash over the border because it was an easier way to pay his crew in Canada, if I remember. The Canadian border staff counted it all and he went on his way.

It's been how long now, and there are still so many jerks, Djokovic prominent among them, who still won't acknowledge that the vaccine protects those around you, not only yourself. He doesn't live in a bubble! On a brighter note, I watched Felix Auger-Aliassime get his first title victory in a dominant performance against Tsitsipas in Rotterdam. It would be great to see Felix as a real slam contender.
  18. The switch to change black and white shows to color was sometimes unfortunate I think. Personally I feel that it was very detrimental to the noir look and feel of The Fugitive, despite the show getting a huge rating for its finale. I wonder if it would have worked well for Perry Mason either. I did read that The Dick Van Dyke Show would have aslo gone to color also if it had been renewed.
  19. I've been watching this show off and on, but I haven't yet tried the final two-parter of Season 2. And now I'm not sure if I want to. I guess I didn't remember the romance between Matilda and Daniel from last year, but Daniel comes off, I totally agree with @BlackberryJam as so drippy that I don't even want to see the character at all. And the delay on the central "mystery" of Matilda's mother is getting ridiculous. I like in general the idea of a "light" mystery show that doesn't become gruesome, in that respect this show reminds me of Agatha Raisin or Shakespeare and Hathaway, but unlike those shows and unlike Brokenwood Mysteries (which can get more serious at times) I just don't find Queens of Mystery the least bit funny. Maybe it's me, I don't know. I do like the cast but I'm not sure that's enough to stay with these story lines.
  20. I am just catching up with some shows. I was glad to see Queens of Mystery back, but I have to say I'm disappointed that with so few plot lines per season that the writer of the first show ripped off the entire tony spa setting and even the early murder scene from last season's Brokenwood Mysteries (The Witches of Brokenwood). Do these writers really think fans don't watch other mystery shows? I agree that unfortunately they are also dragging their feet way too much on the mystery of Matilda's mother. If the reveal doesn't make much sense in the end it's going to be a big letdown. I haven't caught up with the new Vera episodes yet - I have only seen the first 2 of Season 11 - but I am looking forward to that later this week.

I am really happy for Barty. She has such a wonderful, intelligent and varied game, and she rallied like a champion to pull away in the final. Collins can be proud of playing her so close, but Barty has accomplished so much already - not only for winning her home slam, but she is the only active player besides Serena and the Big Three to have won majors on all surfaces. And she seems like a lovely person. It was such a touching moment when her supporter Evonne Goolagong came out as a surprise to present the trophies. Well done.

I always thought it was a waste that Marat didn't go into the movies when he retired. With his looks, personality and sense of humor, how could he have missed? I have to say that watching on ESPN plus has worked for me. I've managed to completely miss Fowler and the Mac brothers so far, and there are no commercials on the daytime replay matches. And when I watched that rather amazing tiebreak last night between Nadal and Mannarino, it was much less annoying coverage. The biggest problem for anyone in the US East coast is just that you have to go to bed just when things are getting dramatic but there's not much anyone can do about that.

It's so odd, I watched some match replays on ESPN plus during the day, and there was not a single commercial, just a card from ESPN saying they were in a "break". Then I tune in the women's matches in the evening and get bombarded with obnoxious commercials. It's so odd, but I guess they are putting all the ads in prime time on purpose? I've turned the sound down most of the way just to minimize the irritation. I was able to re-watch Felix's match and he does look good, lets hope for a good run.

I watched Monfils - who looks in great form by the way - on ESPN plus and the British commentators only made one reference that I heard to Djokovic "not being here". Of course I try to tune in after the matches start just to avoid talk like that!

@Harry24, it looks like the place to watch is ESPN plus. I keep it just to watch the 3 Slams ESPN carries each year. If you don't have it I think it's about $6 a month. So glad to be able to focus on the tennis! I'm so glad Djokovic didn't get away with all this shady behavior, and while I understand (I think) why the government didn't press its case on the falsified travel declaration, it is clearly his responsibility to know what he is signing, and he certainly knew what traveling he had done. The AO and its director look awful in this as well for trying to bend the rules for him. I wish they had held off the draw so Rublev could have had the vacant spot, but I guess the lucky loser will be happy. All Djokovic had to do was get vaccinated like millions of other people and for the good of everyone around him, but he didn't. I wonder if he thought about his legacy as sportsman at all during this time.
