  2. Pierre Boulez has died. He was 90. http://www.bbc.com/news/entertainment-arts-35241250?SThisFB
  3. Elizabeth Swados has died. She was 64. http://www.nytimes.com/2016/01/06/arts/elizabeth-swados-creator-of-socially-conscious-musicals-is-dead-at-64.html
  4. I suspect that the show, Sir Terry, and Ms. King are all making reference to "The First Blast of the Trumpet Against the Monstrous Regiment of Women," an extremely mysognyinistc pamphlet written by John Knox and directed at Mary Stuart (& Elizabeth Tudor & Queen Mother Catherine de Medici): https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_First_Blast_of_the_Trumpet_Against_the_Monstruous_Regiment_of_Women

  6. At this point in the semester, I often wish I had a bottle of scotch in my desk drawer. Sadly, I am not a character on television.
  7. I love this one. Sadly, I doubt I will ever actually see it on tv. http://www.upworthy.com/a-canadian-shelter-sells-older-cats-like-used-cars-and-its-pretty-effective-and-hilarious
  8. A friend posted the ad on Facebook. I googled & found a few articles about it, as it has not aired yet. Here is an article with the ad embedded (sorry, don't know how to post videos): http://www.towleroad.com/2015/09/tide-to-go/
  9. I have a friend who is battling cancer, and he has found comfort and pleasure using coloring books. This is the first commercial I have seen, but I have read a number of articles about how helpful it is, as well as a number of coloring books specifically meant for grown-ups. I'd sort of like to try it, but I was never good at it as a kid.
  10. Since when is "recreate" a verbal form of recreation?!
  11. I hope your cat recovers fully & soon! My Artemus Squeakifur likes to accompany me so that he can bite me when I can't escape... (To bring this back to television, yes, he is named after the character on The Wild Wild West)
  12. John Oliver has a response to/spoof of that dreadful hamburger/hot dog/potato chip concoction. And a whole lot of very important information to go with the humor: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=i8xwLWb0lLY
  13. The late, great Bea Arthur continues to support LGBTQ youth from beyond the grave! I always loved her, and now I love her even more! http://www.newnownext.com/construction-begins-on-homeless-lgbt-youth-residence-named-after-bea-arthur/07/2015/
  14. I think they forgot to add an important comma: http://screamer.deadspin.com/banner-urges-englands-world-cup-fans-to-come-on-their-g-1713712446
  15. Here is a mistake CNN may never live down: http://gawker.com/cnn-mistakes-isis-style-dildo-flag-at-pride-parade-for-1714409153?rev=1435436550575&utm_campaign=socialflow_gawker_twitter&utm_source=gawker_twitter&utm_medium=socialflow
  16. Alas, David, it has been my experience as a college history professor that most of my students are completely unaware of history (& geography!), whether they allegedly learned it in school or not.
  17. This KLM ad is adorable: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=NK-T_t166TY
  18. You'd think I'd know to look at the bloody dates, right?
  19. Another great one taken: Ruby Dee has died. http://www.washingtonpost.com/entertainment/celebrities/ruby-dee-actress-and-civil-rights-activist-dies-at-89/2014/06/12/d4c3e4d2-f250-11e3-9ebc-2ee6f81ed217_story.html
  20. This might interest and amuse (I suffer from extreme technotardation, so I hope the link works -- it is to a PBS podcast of an interview with Mary Norris, author of Between You and Me Confessions of a Comma Queen): http://www.pbs.org/newshour/bb/new-yorkers-comma-queen-offers-guide-grammatically-insecure/#.VXeaYocc_BQ.facebook
  21. Yeah, the writers clearly don't realize that Tarrytown is within easy commuting distance! I feel your pain about missing the chance to run into IG & ADG, as they filmed in Kew Gardens & I missed them, too!
  22. Here is a very different Victor Garber -- starring in Godspell! http://www.tcm.com/mediaroom/video/307787/Godspell-Movie-Clip-Save-The-People.html
  23. I guess that mistake was less dangerous than this one: http://7online.com/news/man-beaten-to-death-after-livery-cab-mix-up-in-long-island-city/527867/
  24. Loving your Marathon Diary entries, but I have a small correction to this one: the low-rises are still standing; the Towers are the buildings which were imploded.
