  1. Ooh, the smirky satisfaction of being right. I love that you were confident enough to open it in front of him, knowing it would be wrong. I'm the fool who always pays a dollar for extra pepperoni on my pizza. When the delivery person arrives I open the box and point out that it does not, in fact, have extra. It never does! I keep thinking they'll learn but I think it's me who needs to. In the same vein, my preferred Chinese restaurant recently added online ordering and I used it once, twice, three times without the restaurant knowing anything about it when I went in to pick up the food. I'm stubbornly dimwitted like that. The hostess: "Just call me!"
  2. Thanks for the tip! That is cheap. My current Tracfone is good until summer of next year but I'll have to remember to check QVC then. I suppose Tracfone makes their money when customers buy additional time but like you, I'd never exceed the starting amounts. At those prices, it's considerably less expensive to buy a new phone each year instead of adding minutes to an existing one. And you'd be getting the newer tech ... although for me that would be more a headache than a bonus!
  3. I don't know about you guys, but if I wake up after a bad dream, I do not bolt upright in bed, sweating and panting loudly enough to scare the neighbors. Yet every single person on TV does that.
  4. Including the audiologist! I used to be one a couple of professional lives ago and although I enjoyed the clinical work, hearing aid dispensing was soul-crushing. I worked in a hospital clinic and actually had a sales quota. Hearing aids just aren't that good -- still -- and the hoards of dissatisfied patients and constant readjustments were brutal. But mazel tov to anyone here who loves it, of course. What do you order? I've heard a lot of people say it's their favorite but I don't know which sandwich to try.
  5. If anybody else is curious, I specifically avoided the sites devoted to it and found this small blurb in wiki. The name is pretty self-explanatory. There is a subculture called "Christian Domestic Discipline" that promotes corporal punishment of wives by husbands. While its advocates appeal to the Bible to support their views, the movement has also been described as a form of S&M and there is a FetLife page devoted to it. I then had to look up FetLife, which is also what you'd think: A social networking website that serves people interested in BDSM, fetishism, and kink.
  6. What would need to change for you? My guess is that a second season would continue to focus on family dynamics, random hometown hijinks, and Tig's developing romance with Kate.
  7. Was that the time Miranda actually encouraged Carrie to natter on? Something like she needed to hear normal conversation to take her out of her own stress, or something. Gawd.
  8. Do most pedophiles and rapists do it just once and quit? Not normally. I don't think Toby drinks (but maybe that will come out, too) so it wouldn't seem to be one crime done while in a drunken or drugged stupor. I have a feeling that there will be more accusations coming.
  9. The ordering box asked me recently if I would mind coming inside because they were in the middle of power washing the drive through lane. Hm. I'm in my housecoat and slippers with no bra, so no.
  10. I was a little put off about Sanders criticizing the Democrats again when he left the party, just like he joined it, in a hot minute. I don't need to hear him still kvetching about how he should be the nominee. I don't like how Seth sucks up to him as a "good friend of the show." Pfft.
  11. That's certainly true and Derek has acted very immaturely. Leaving an irretrievably broken marriage was the right choice for Heather as a person. I was mostly referring to her taking a pasting in the public eye because she's perceived as being snobby and not trying.
  12. Sorry you had to go through that @Portia. It's an awful disease. Tig's thinness was upsetting to me, even though she's always been itty bitty and I assume was cured when she filmed this? She never had any extra weight to lose. I was also a little uncomfortable when she took her shirt off. The breasts are gone but it still seemed invasive for me to be looking at a woman topless. I came across this picture when I was looking up C. diff stuff -- I assumed it was Tig playing around in a wig but it's her mom.
  13. There were 1.087M total viewers for the 9/13 episode. That placed it 43rd out of the top 100 cable shows on Tuesdays.
  14. "You can take it as a pill!" I'm sure I'm not the only one who immediately looked that shit (sorry) up. I mean, there are lots of human tissues, blood, serum, organs, placental stem cells, etc. transferred from one person/cadaver to another, but fecal transplant just sounds so gross! They seriously need to change the name to "intestinal bacteria transfer" or something.
  15. It's a "success" for FYI in the ratings. :) I think the producers could easily find men who are stable, mature, and genuinely looking for a spouse, but they'd be older, perhaps divorced with kids, and not traditionally good looking. I'd watch that but it's not the business American reality TV is in. As for people castigating Heather or Nick, compare their behavior to Jaclyn or (ugh) Jamie. Both were distressed and displeased on their wedding days but they went forward one step at a time. Neither quit. Doug was patient, charming and funny enough that Jamie eventually began to overlook what she saw as his physical flaws. Jaclyn immediately friend-zoned Ryan, but she remained gregarious and willingly engaged in various activities on their honeymoon. After a while, she also began to develop romantic feelings for him. The point is that both of whose women remained open-minded and engaged. I don't think Heather, Ashley, or Nick have done so, which is mostly why they get flamed. They knew what the show was about but still never tried, and that sticks in my craw. These people are supposed to dance for my amusement, dammit.
  16. This is more of a "come ON" reaction, but I still shake my head. I was at the IRS site submitting an estimated quarterly tax payment, which requires users to enter their SSN as identification. There are no accounts or passwords, you just enter your info. The field for SSN is automatically hidden when you type so all you see are dots. Come ON. The IRS doesn't think it might be useful for me to verify that I'm typing the correct numbers? I understand the need for security, I really do. But from the bottom of my heart, I doubt that people who are required to make estimated tax payments are doing so from public library computers or the like because they have zero access to technology.
  17. I don't want to pity them, but the fact that the majority/some of the celebrities are doing the show and faking being bad cooks in order to ... increase their entertainment marketability? Get new gigs? Is pretty pitiful.
  18. I saw this trailer for the upcoming third season of The Fall and for a second thought Jamie Dornan was Toby's mug shot!
  19. I had quit watching before that point, but the constant habit of writers forcing opposite-sex platonic friends together romantically chaps my big saggy hide. Please stop. There are a few very rare occasions when it's earned but those should remain the exceptions.
  20. This must be unpopular since there are so many of them, but I can't stand fight scenes. Or chase scenes. I assume I'm supposed to feel anxious, excited, tense, worried, thrilled ... anything other than completely bored. I can't fast-forward fast enough.
  21. Did JonBenet really weigh 65 pounds? That's high for a six-year old female. This site claims to quote from the autopsy report: "The unembalmed, well developed nourished Caucasian female body measures 47 inches in length and weighs an estimated 45 pounds."
  22. You're probably right. The guy is an artist and was getting his MFA at the time. He had his own (very nice) paintings hung up all over. Why a tacky girlie poster?
  23. What's wrong with speculating? Being gay is not a pejorative. People wonder why Nick's acting the way he is and have suggested: insecurity, awkwardness around the cameras, wanting to let his feelings develop more naturally, intrinsic shyness, neuro-atypical, not attracted to Sonia, not attracted to any women.
