  1. I wonder if Letty really does love Jacob? She's doesn't know him and has been subconsciously using him as a kind magical talisman who will somehow make her life happy and fulfilled. The goal has been to GET HER SON with little regard for his own physical and mental well being or her ability to provide those for him.
  2. I rarely-to-never rewatch episodes but am finding I want to savor this and take in all the small details. The trailing swirls on Dorothy's red mistress dress were beautiful for the second time in the tornado as they were when we saw a similar effect on East. What was the pill bottle that Eamonn found outside East's castle? Something that fell out of Karen's coveralls? I seriously want to pack West off to rehab. Also to an orthodontist. Not that it's infallible, but
  3. Hippity hip hooray! I'm so glad Shaun, Roger, and the others are willing to do it. There are episodes I like more than others but overall, the series has never disappointed me. I've watched each season 3-4 times already and always find new facets to enjoy.
  4. Did we know that #3 was in some kind of relationship with that other recruit? I was sorry to lose her but her body just crapped out. I felt really bad for the guy who broke down when he talked about being in the box. That psychological shit will get you. I have to think the producers were behind the scenes begging the instructors to ease up a bit or else they might not have any recruits left with more episodes to fill.
  5. I may need one of those "how long I lasted" clocks from the recaps, because I'm 28 minutes into the first episode and wavering. I can't quite put my finger on why, but I responded very negatively to Neil Patrick as Count Olaf. I'd say he's too much of a caricature except that's the point of the stories so maybe my expectations are out of whack. There's no earthly reason for me to dislike Patrick Warburton's portrayal of Lemony, but I still do. The kid actors are good and the visual design is well done.
  6. I watched only long enough to notice that Chris looked cute in his sweater and glasses. Begone forever, loosely knotted skinny tie!
  7. So Emily is now the only "new" contestant remaining. Inspiring.
  8. I like Jamie (and his fiery wife) now that he distinguished himself and I know which one he is, so go Jamie, I guess. Kristen Kish won five LCK challenges but I honestly don't see anyone having a winning run this early on, so goodbye Jamie.
  9. From what I've heard, they're getting more new converts internationally, especially from South America and Russia. I don't think it's a huge number, but for quite a few years they've been bringing in immigrants to staff U.S. facilities. It's one of their legal vulnerabilities because of possibly breaking immigration and human trafficking laws. Russia has been antagonistic towards Scientology so it would make sense that some gung ho members may be predisposed to leave. Wikipedia has a list of which countries recognize Scientology as a religion.
  10. I wonder if he forgave her for having sex with Sean once he himself had rammed her hard against the wall? The way they relate to each other sexually is kind of twisted, is what I'm saying.
  11. I wish Lisa Marie would join Leah on season 2 and start blabbing. She's such a moneybags that nothing Miscavige did could hurt her, and you know she's got some juicy stories. Once she's warmed up, she could then give us the real poop on her "marriage" to Michael Jackson.
  12. I liked Charlie a lot. What happened to her, again? I may have missed an episode.
  13. The bleeping sometimes takes me out of a scene, as do obviously overdubbed words that don't match lip movements. Unless a show or movie is a constant barrage of curse words, I can't imagine it's that difficult to record two versions at the time of filming and have both available for various outlets as needed.
  14. That's hard core! Like most of the world, I've never been a Neilsen family, but now that DVRs track everything, I like to think I'm making my own spiteful point every time I angrily fast-forward or delete a season pass. Take that, show that has disappointed me!
  15. I thought the actor playing Holden did fine, but his face is so bland and lacking in character. He can't help his face, but he's just not someone who was interesting for me to watch.
  16. Doesn't it seem like "hate crimes" should distinguish between acts committed by a person with a general bias against the targeted group and someone who has a specific beef due to a bad experience? Compare a random skinhead throwing a brick through the window of the Holocaust Museum to Brandon's anger towards an organization he felt had personally harmed him. Seems clear which is actually a hate crime, strict interpretation of the law notwithstanding.
  17. Just when I think Scientology can't get any grosser, I read Lois Reisdorf's account of being part of Hubbard's messenger service on the Apollo back in the 70s. She was around 14 at the time and helped get him dressed, gave him backrubs, lit his cigarettes, cleaned his clothes, etc. Basically the messengers acted as his personal gofers. One of Lois's "messages" was to go slap the chief engineer. Lois said Hubbard always had "at least" his underwear on when they were giving him massages. She said nothing sexual ever happened to her, or that she saw. Yeah, whatever. He had young girls outfitted in short shorts and midriff blouses. GROSS AND SLIMY! I imagine Hubbard smelled like cigarettes, hair grease and rotten teeth.
  18. The great and powerful Elron from planet Toothdecay!
  19. Congrats and thanks to Leah, Mike, A&E, and producers Eli Holzman and Aaron Saidman and showrunner Alex Weresow for having the guts to put themselves on the line to do this show. As even hard-nosed reporter Tony Ortega said, it's scary to be followed, smeared, intimidated and perhaps even sued. Such a crock of shit for Scientology to try to make Brandon blame Leah and others for inciting a hate crime. I understand what they went through but still want to mentally shake the Reisdorfs for leaving their sons unprepared to resist Scientology, even after they themselves repudiated it. Sigh. So many people "leave" the organization but never really examine their ingrained thought processes.
  20. Thanks, @paulvdb. I guess "successful digital strategy" means I was interested enough to idly binge online although I probably would not have bothered to watch week to week. I hope the season 2 premiere includes a generous helping of "previously on" because I guarantee I will have forgotten most of the plot.
  21. Toby earned some of the side-eye around here because he was such a controlling hardliner with his children. I wouldn't have been totally shocked if he'd been charged with hitting them, but rape did surprise me. If he's guilty, I'd find it hard to believe it only happened once. @slasherboy, please do report back! Try some bad charcoal courtroom drawings, too. ;)
  22. So sweet! Thanks for sharing. There's something about a dog (or cat) with white socks that always makes me melt. Try not to smile!
  23. Conway? Yeah, no. I hope others here have better character than me and can report, but I will not be able to watch that. I've already had to take the day to recover from Van Jones and his ridiculous statement (gone unchecked by Seth) that some people voted for Trump because they're resentful of Democrat "elitism." So that means they voted for a New York billionaire who's been rich and pampered his entire life? Go fuck yourself, Van. I'm sick of everybody and their dog trying to explain the election and point fingers in hindsight.
  24. I'm on the other end of the spectrum because I'm grateful for anyone, for any reason, who deviates from a speech that consists of a boring list of thank yous to people the rest of us have never heard of. Dear award recipients: You don't owe them everything, you could have done it without them, and odds are you'll end up divorced from that super supportive and loving spouse.
  25. I started watching because of your recommendation and found the characters to be relatable and the plot intriguing. I had given the show a pass because MTV and middle age usually aren't so matchy, but I think this has broad appeal. Thanks!
