For whatever reason, Marc realizes Dave is horrible and still does nothing. All in service of comedy, I suppose, but it doesn't make me like the fictional Marc any better. The racial storyline was well done, I thought. I've never considered that there might be different comedy clubs/circuits for blacks and whites, or at least different audiences on different nights.

Here's Comedy Central about that: “I was shocked to learn our fans have such keen interest in sex, but so be it,” said Comedy Central’s president of original programming Kent Alterman. “Nikki is the perfect talent to satisfy them.” Not Safe With Nikki Glaser is described as providing a frank, funny, and honest perspective on all things sex. The audience will also be encouraged to share their own potentially NSFW content with Glaser across multiple platforms. I don't enjoy hearing about how sex sent people in the ER so am not sure about the viewer participation. But Nikki is one of the comics that @Midnight introduced me to and I think she's funny, so if I'm still awake in 2016 I'll give it a shot.

I looked up Nikki's new show: Having great success with Inside Amy Schumer, Comedy Central is betting on a weekly series featuring another female comedian, Nikki Glaser. Hosted by Glaser and executive produced by [a bunch of people] and Alex Murray (@midnight with Chris Hardwick), the ten-episode Not Safe With Nikki Glaser blends chats with comedians, pre-taped vignettes and social experiments, with Glaser and her guests sharing personal stories about sex, relationships and other taboo topics that Glaser frequently touches upon in her standup. The series will debut in 2016.

If anyone wants to yammer at him on Twitter, the creator is David Broome, who also produces The Biggest Loser. He's still insisting the show is about "empathy and the human spirit" and not cynical. manipulative, and condescending at all. If nothing else, the observer effect means that the participants (or experimental subjects, if we're being honest) are not following their natural instincts simply because they know they're being watched. How the hell is that uplifting in any capacity?

I enjoyed the first ep with Julia Louis-Dreyfuss, mostly because of their genuine fondness and ease with each other. Even though some are less successful, I'm glad Jerry has continued to include guests other than stand-up comics. But then, I love this show in general and am very forgiving. If I'm having a difficult day I just watch Ricky Gervais on a constant loop as he claws at the dashboard and screams in fear. I've probably also watched the eps with Larry David and Fred Armisen 20 times. I'm curious if there are going to be new Acura ads for this season. The ones with Dan Granite ("I sell cars. You sell you.") garnered a bit of attention in the ad world. If that really was JLD's house, she's living in a very normal looking, un-gated neighborhood smack up against her neighbors just like the rest of us.

Here's the actual Bachelor creator. Maybe Bierko was going Method. ;)

Preach! Considering all our dime store psychologizing about which of them is worse -- let's just agree that THEY'RE BOTH HORRIBLE. All three couples were disgracefully matched from the start. If any of them stay together, it's out of fear and pigheadedness.

Has no one in the family heard of parkour/freerunning? Jedi may very well have started doing it spontaneously, but you know? Look up a YouTube video or watch a commercial or something. It was interesting to hear Jessica say that she and Jair have become close over the past year. I assume siblings in large families have a lot of push/pull and mesh better with some people than others, but it struck me since they're the two oldest and I would have assumed their bond was tight to start with. Oh, Jaeger. He is more than a handful but I just want to eat him up. The four middle girls are getting the Jan Brady edit, lost in the crowd.

Nor does picking your nightgown out of your butt crack after you stand up.

Tiny Houses Ad Nauseam (Except Tiny House Nation)
zxy556575 replied to auntjess's topic in Genre Talk
My main thoughts for the Washington couple were: 1. Bullshit. 2. Why even bother "downsizing" from a 700sf house on the water in the town you're determined not to leave? 3. A former professional baseball player and current business executive should have been able to save more money than this guy, what with the $150K budget. The woman can't be making much more than minimum wage as a shipping clerk for a cheap looking "custom" jewelry company. I assume it's not easy for the producers to find people who really are searching for a tiny house, but now they're just fabricating the entire thing. There's no way that couple bought that house. -
Rachel being asked back seems to fall under the fictional trope of "rogue cops/doctors/reporters who are very good at their jobs so their bosses, who also have a complicated backstory of friendship with the miscreants, overlook a shit ton of rule-breaking for the greater good." Is Craig Bierko playing the Mike Fleiss character? At first I thought he was Chris Harrison.

I enjoyed it but a couple of minor things made me snort. Not to be overly analytical and assy*, but it doesn't matter what the actual order is out of the limos because the editors will subsequently change it so that the favorites will be first or last to arrive. The star also reviews with the producers what his cuts will be on the first night and they wouldn't allow him to let the designated villain go so soon. * But I was isolated, given a lot to drink, and asked leading questions by the producers.

They'll each totally blame the other, so their internal lives continue failure-free.

It has made me wonder about all those "burner phones" constantly referenced on crime shows. Even if you pay cash, the phone indicates where it was purchased? And what store doesn't have video surveillance these days? I wonder if there's a secondary drug dealer market for untraceable phones.

It also occurred to me that she probably could have gone back to stripping, which I understand can bring in fairly decent money. But that would have been out in the open and it was evidently more important to her that she maintain her "well-off suburban mommy" facade. In her head, how long could she have kept this up? It's not really a life for 50-year olds with children in college. From all accounts she was a good person, albeit one with bad taste in husbands. I'm not blaming her and sincerely feel bad for her, her kids, her family and friends. I'm in no way passing judgment on sex workers in general. But when I try to understand her choices, I just can't.

It took me until maybe 10 minutes in until I realized I'd seen this profiled before. Different presentations, indeed. I agree with everyone that Paige should have sold the damned house (which, btw, wasn't all that palatial, other mommy group friend). Nor do I believe that, upon meeting her, people were blown back by her beauty. A little overboard with the hyperbole, folks. She must have been getting some spousal support from her second ex, right? I don't imagine that even high end hooking would have brought in the $10K+ a month she would have needed. If the guy who killed her was typical of her regular clientele, how much could she have been charging anyway? Sad story all around. Her parents and brother were indeed very dedicated.

It also occurred to me that Tracfone is getting a lot of unwanted publicity from Dateline lately. Like, I almost feel guilty for having one now. I stupidly bought mine online with my own credit card and have continually added minutes, so I'm sure the police will be busting down my door any time.

Ha! I always walk down the stairs with a butcher knife pointed at my chest in case I fall. The daughter claimed she pulled out the knife in order to do CPR, yet she apparently ran outside instead. I did like how the editors framed her entire interview prison style -- from the neck up against a gray background -- to trick us into thinking she may have been convicted. Then the camera finally pulled back at the end with Mank confirming with her that she'd been cleared. Her husband was weird, too.

Can you help me get it? I'm asking sincerely. Did the other comic's drinking and womanizing and fart/racist jokes make people laugh? Was Louie's discomfort with it funny, in a meta way? What about his eventual acceptance, and tears? Is it amusing to watch someone have a deliberately dreary and miserable life? Is it that I simply don't appreciate absurdest humor? I've spent a lot of time watching and trying to understand and like this show and have no idea why. I am able to differentiate between Louie the character and Louis CK the person but I don't know why CK would put this out there as a weak, depressing doppelganger of himself. Does he find it funny or is it therapy? I kind of tend towards the latter and am uncomfortable being privy to that. I tried to watch the Louis CK stand-up special and only got through about 8 minutes before deleting it.

Police often short-sightedly suspect someone simply because that person didn't conform to their idea of "normal" behavior after a death or during a 911 call, but dang. The victim's daughter was practically giggling during her interview with Josh -- that frozen, smirky smile never left her face. In this particular case, I wouldn't have believed her story either. Why on earth does Diana go to murder someone without a weapon or, apparently, any sort of plan? I'm done with speculating why a random stranger would agree to murder someone for $10K. Sigh.

Say Yes To The Dress - General Discussion
zxy556575 replied to Rhondinella's topic in Say Yes To The Dress
Yes, all that, but ... I could not believe the bride lost 55 pounds! Seeing her previous scenes, I would never have said she needed to lose even 10 pounds, and that's taking into consideration that people look bigger on camera. It was nice to see Dianne again. Despite her preference for high-priced gowns, she's always been one of my favorite consultants because I feel she's very genuine in her concern for the brides. Uh, about that prom dress special? I honestly thought there had been an editing error and the bride fitting segments were spliced in by mistake. What a mess. I actually liked that show from a few years ago about the two sisters and mother in New Jersey who own a dress shop, but this was not prom shopping. -
I did laugh at the "guy with a Guinness" doing the selfie judging. I don't mind D'Elia (well, I don't really dislike any of the regular panelists, so ... low standards) and I thought him totally cracking up over someone else's joke was nice. Many of the comics are so focused on looking down at the podium screen to get their next joke that they don't fully participate in the extemporaneous nature of the show.

I was at a hypnotist's show once and he did some preliminary work directed at the audience to find a few suggestible types to come on stage. I felt myself going and had to walk out to the lobby to clear my head. Hey, I had gone to laugh at the monkeys, not be one. It is possible for people to be inadvertently hypnotized through the TV, so I think it's fairly standard not to show the entire process.

I think he's trying to say that he wishes her experience doing some minor acting/modeling had been discussed because not to do so caused some people to believe she's an actress and everything is faked.
