    Chopped 2018

The eventual winner did seem like a nice , humble person... along with the first cheftestant kicked off the show. The lady from Harlem is probably nice too. But her bragging in the stew room that she was going to take it all was off-putting... even though I know she was trying to out-psyche cocky beer drinking chef. She did take getting chopped well... so I give her credit for that. So glad arrogant chef lost... I don't care how good he is. His arrogance and lack of humility bugged me.
  2. Thank you for this post! I thought it was my imagination that I watched one episode of this show and never saw it again. I really enjoy the Great British Baking Show... as well as the Canadian version. 3 baking challenges... straight forward themes, no tricks, no twists... just baking. I love it! I pretty much like all the bakers on the Spring Baking Championship, except the the crier. I'm not sure why.
  3. Alex (Ali) is Michelle's biological son... mistakenly switched at birth with Ryan by the hospital. IIRC, the mistake wasn't discovered until the two boys were teenagers. Alex tried living with Michelle for a little while... but, it didn't work out and he went back to live with the couple who raised him. Guess she didn't keep in touch with... since she didn't even know he went to medical school and became a doctor. I get the resentment on his part.
  4. Rio's attack on Sandra was completely senseless. And I think once she gets over the extreme disappointment of losing the challenge she so desperately wanted to win for her little sister, she will realize she was being silly, mean and thoughtless. Sandra did nothing to warrant that attack. I think Rio's anger was misplaced. She would have had a real shot at winning if she hadn't been tied to sourpuss Christina. But, for some crazy reason she went after Sandra, who hasn't exactly been burning up the competition. Rio has been the one receiving all the accolades... not Sandra. Hope she apologizes. I'm still rooting for her because I think she let that green-eyed monster take over her for a day. Hopefully she's back to her rational, fair and perceptive self next week.
  5. Alex is one of my favorites. I think he probably spends a lot of time with adults... who never really talked to him like a kid.. I say that because he doesn't come off as precocious. It's just his personality and it seems genuine. I do feel bad for the kids when they start to cry. Just want to give them a big hug! I glad Valerie goes over to comfort them and motivate them not to give up.
  6. I have some sympathy for Brendi. She's pretty young... but it seems like life has kicked her down almost from the day she was born. When you grow up feeling like everything is stacked against you, it's sometimes hard to get out of your own way with self-fulfilling prophesies. She can't imagine good things happening for her because up until now they never have. So she becomes her own worse enemy. That can be exhausting for people around her. So I'm glad Rio gave her a little tough-love pep talk and that they liked her shots. Maybe it will get her out that woe-is-me mentality and she can own that look. IMHO she's striking with the short hair. LOL! Well, considering Tyra's track record, the girl probably thought her hair would literally be the color red... like a fire-engine or traffic light! Especially with the lead-up about voting GOP red. Rio is my favorite too! I love her short platinum blond do. She looks fierce... and she seems like a genuinely nice and decent person. No drama, no meanness, no nonsense. I like that in a reality show contestant. I like Coura too!
  7. The designers watch the runway first (like a dress rehearsal)... No judges. That's when they do all their hootin'... hollerin and back-patting. Then the designers watch the runway show with the judges there. That's when the designers notice the judges' expressions while watching certain designs. The designers are silent while viewing the show with the judges. Their comments are edited in to seem like it's all happening a the same time.
  8. Yeah it was cute at first. I actually said "awww" when she called her hubby the love of her life. But it felt a little awkward after that. May be my imagination... but it seems like the judges giggled uncomfortably when she described her cookies as the scene outside her window at the North Pole.
  9. IKR?! I'm also glad she didn't win because she was such an over confident shit-talker. Jeez, the other lady is trying to have some friendly chit-chat with you (like the show producers no doubt encourage) and answering back with nonsense like "Well I'm not going to tell you all my secrets". I loved the WTH? expression the other baker had on her face when Ms. Fondant said that. Lol!
  10. My vote is that he's just being an asshole. He would have been a hero in Trevor's eyes FOREVER if he had pulled off securing that building. I mean he resorted to blackmail, then ended up pleasuring BOTH the husband AND the wife to be Trevor's shining knight. Fiona is in the way in his quest for the holy grail (Trevor). That's all Ian cares about right now (IMHO). Plus, the writers seem to have forgotten Ian's bi-polar struggles.
  11. This is pretty much what Ayana said a couple of episodes ago... something about the lack of constructive criticism from the judges would be Brandon's downfall... because he's not growing or challenging himself. He really thought he had this in the bag. I'm sure he's a nice guy, but he was getting a little smug.
  12. Agreed... It's ridiculous that they're so rushed they don't even really let their cake cool down before having to put icing on it.
  13. Totally hooked on that show! No theatrics, trash talking, running around... and they're in a lovely tent. I still enjoy the American baking shows... but, there's something so calming and delightful about the Brit version that makes me enjoy the show even more. Plus they give them the appropriate amount of time to bake and create.
  14. Well, I was thinking they could have eaten Alex's plate... since she was following the instructions. Mute point now I guess... since she went through to the next round.. contaminated food and all! LOL!
  15. Right... Look at the hateful comments over two dads feeding their kid Campbell's soup. I can't imagine Will appearing in a beer ad would be welcomed with open arms. OMG... yes! Why in the world are the writers trying to keep them together. Why is Gunnar begging Scarlett to love him when it's very clear she's just settling for him. My heart would be broken if the person I loved moped around and acted like they were in mourning over the one that got away. Run Gunnar and find someone who loves you back. Let Scarlett raise her baby on her own!
  16. Yep... IMO, all the other contestants were cannon fodder. Almost from Day-1, I predicted these 4 would be the last one's standing with Tyler and Cig being shoe-ins for the final! Between the two I'm not sure who I'm rooting for. I like them and their work equally (well up until Tyler's theme park Tiki God). Heh!
  17. Now that's a bonafide STAR! I would love to see DVD on this show. He can still cut a rug... saw him dancing on FB last year looking quite spry! :-)
  18. I worked as a dresser at a local fashion show about 25 years ago. It was a small event but the ladies were all working professional models. I was amazed at how ordinary these ladies were without make-up. But, they were all super thin and could walk their butts off! But, that was when I learned the magic of makeup!
  19. I know I shouldn't like Emmett. But, the actor is just so darn cute I can't help myself. The hair, the eyes the chemistry with Bay. (Swoon) I miss the original recipe Bay and Emmett. (sigh).
  20. I doubt she learned her lesson... as evidenced by her ridiculously passive-aggressive meltdown in the stew room. This is what I heard: "(sob) Well, ladies it's been real. Looks like standing up for myself is going to send me home. I know I have clashed with many of you here... For that all I can say is "whatevs". (sob) You all know I can't keep quiet when someone is attacking me. I thought they would see how fabulous I am... But, nooo! Now I'm going home... and my dream is over thanks to that ugly old hag Stacy! (sob)". It didn't register to her at all that her performance was horrible, on top of her stank attitude. She's been told she's special, beautiful and fabulous her whole life. Even the judges have bathed her with nothing but superlatives. So, she can't handle criticism... or someone who has a personality (and attitude) bigger than her own -- which Stacy does.
  21. Right! In my family it was basically saying don't get "too big for your britches" and try to "buck up" and challenge me... because I might verbally/emotionally/possibly physically smack you down. LOL!
  22. What was crazy is the way Marissa kept telling Courtney she wasn't talking to her. But, she clearly was talking to Courtney. LOL! Poor Courtney. Everybody just keeps going off on her. Not sure if Marissa is playing Kyle. Maybe she is gender fluid, but is really turned off by how clumsy, needy and crass Kyle is being. I agree with an earlier poster who said Kyle wasn't exactly eloquent when she blurted out what she wanted to do Marissa. People like to be woo'd. To go straight from cute flirting to someone saying they want to lay on top of you and then screw you... on TV... may be just a bit too much for Marissa to handle. There's a whole lot of feelings and comfort zones to deal with in what seemed like 24 hours. Too fast Kyle. Slow the hell down. And please stop following Marissa around like a little puppy. It's not a good look on someone who keeps claiming to be "BAD ASS".
  23. Hate drama too.... especially when having to listen to debaters from the school of Maury P. (loudly talking over someone and repeating your point over and over again.) It seems the African woman (sorry I can't remember names) didn't seem to get the point. Yes, POC are ultimately from Africa and of African descent. But, many of us do not know specifically where we're from. Many, if not most people of other groups can trace their ancestry back hundreds and hundreds. Sadly without the efforts of Alex Haley, most of us cannot. The African woman seems to be argumentative and opinionated. She made a good point about professionalism and not touching the clothes on the rack... but, why be so overbearing about it.. and then to bring it back up in the kitchen. People like that drive me crazy. Let it go!
  24. I agree with your whole post. But, I must confess, right or wrong... I absolutely and totally romanticize Ian and Mickey's relationship. But, I think my fascination with them as a couple has more to do with the actors than the script. Their chemistry and acting choices (mainly Noel Fisher) are right on point.... like when Ian brushed the hair from Mickey's neck so he could kiss it right before they started having sex. Noel's expression really sold the moment... that it wasn't just about sex but that Mickey really missed Ian and is totally in love with him. That upside - down kiss and hope that he would see Ian again. When he asked Ian if "this is goodbye" right before Ian threw his stuff into the car and climbed in. Noel's look of contained glee was amazing. So yeah... I really like them together and really wished they had a normal relationship... without all the dysfunction. But, then it would be "Shameless". Of course, Ian running away with Mickey will end in chaos and separation... Ian will likely sacrifice himself so Mickey can narrowly escape (to keep the door open for his eventual return)... and Fiona will have to use her windfall of cash to pay for a good lawyer to get him off.
