Problem with that is as you age, you can’t defend yourself as well. Live by the sword, die by the sword.

Well the character he plays here is not that different from Walter White in some ways. Michael is desperate to protect Adam, just as Walther White was desperate to make provisions for his family. But in the process, WW becomes a slave to Fring, scared for himself, for his family. Here' Michael is scared of what Jimmy will do to him and Adam so he rigs the trial to get Carlo acquitted in season 1. In season 2, Michael is again someone's bitch, this time Olivia. Now Detective Costello is going to pursue him for the possible death of his wife. He's no longer a judge but he seems more hapless than ever. In the end WW got his revenge and took Fring down. I don't know that Michael has similar wherewithal but he's going to have to thread the needle. Only, the writing here isn't as good as BB so they've tossed a lot into the mix, gang war, federal prosecutions, local prosecution, possible cartel involvement. Why would Big Mo have Little Mo beaten up at her club in the French Quarter? She put a lot of money into that club, risking the cartel coming after her. She's going to do criminal work there, possibly risk her investment? It's as dumb as Jimmy threatening to blow out Michael's brains in his own high-profile hotel. Then you have Gina, who's been withholding sex from Jimmy, giving him sexy times after he cut a deal with Clay Davis, who's now working for Olivia, trying to bust Jimmy. Bet Jimmy has some mistresses stashed throughout the city. Is an angry wife who keep harping on how you don't measure up to her father a turn on for a mob boss?

My point is military discipline wouldn't break down that much. But cops would be another matter, also ICE, which have been brutalizing civilians. Look at Ukraine. Russian soldiers are committing atrocities against civilians and POWs. Ukraine soldiers haven't been mistreating POWs, probably because they're aware that NATO would hesitate to continue supporting them if they did act brutally. But they certainly could act with brutality, the way their country has been destroyed. I'm not even that pro military but the US military has a better record than most others because they didn't misbehave, particularly in WWII. But we're speculating because the story doesn't spell out exactly how FEDRA was formed or how these QZs were organized. It certainly sounds more organized or an attempt to preserve some semblance of order than the TWD universe where it was basically every tribe for itself, with each tribe having their little defining characteristic, like cannibals here, farmers there, etc.

You can't not notice how artificial Christa Miller's face looks whenever she's on screen. There was one profile shot and her chin was elongated, not in a flattering way. It's tough for an older actress, you want to see them keep getting roles and such. But is she suppose to be a contemporary of Jimmy, around the same age? Liz and Jimmy have children who are around the same age too. Paul has Parkinsons, won't tell daughter. Sean probably has PTSD, won't talk about his war experience. Jimmy is still in grief, can't be a good father to Alice. So they're all working through various levels of dysfunction, while being funny? Or maybe the pun in the name of the show is that they're shrinking in different ways from their responsibilities or courses of actions they know they should undertake.

In the end she went for the cheaper of the two options. Mother talked sense to her, see how she likes it, not as big a financial commitment. Her business is selling herbs or something. Is she going to ship them out from Puerto Vallarta? -
Not sure that I buy people behaving this way. First who are FEDRA suppose to be, former military? US soldiers are not pristine, there have been cases of them brutalizing or massacring civilians but those cases are relatively few — at least the ones which are general knowledge. But soldiers generally are taught discipline and following the military code. Now if they’re former police, it might be different. KC FEDRA apparently committed all kinds of crimes to stir up so much hate that they’d desecrate their corpses. Kathleen may have led the rebellion but people motivated to defeat oppression must surely see that she’s just as much a bloodthirsty criminal as FEDRA was. Ordering the summary execution of those people and they carry it out without question? Did mostly sociopaths survive the fungus apocalypse? As far as the episode, they set up some scenes of rare serenity just to undermine them with carnage and then ultimately heartbreak. It’s an unrelentingly bleak world. Joel may have done bad things but this world is full of monsters, both living and dead. You would hope they’re going through all this for something, not just be the last survivors.

In some other Finals, they did say there would be a point system depending on how they finished each portion or leg. I think based on that, this was where Ashley got more points than her partner and was given an option of taking all the winnings, not split it. Of course they never showed how the points were adding up. At the end they just said Ashley had more points. So The Challenge always had this potential for shenanigans because of the lack of transparency. The challengers either go along with whatever TJ says or maybe they're told something more off camera than the viewer ever see. Really it's old technology to show individual or team cumulative times on screen, or points or whatever. They've been doing this for 40 years now so if they wanted to ,they could always display how the different challengers stand at different parts of the Final. They don't show it in the Final or in the regular episodes with the Daily and eliminations. Well in some eliminations, they will have elapsed time when it involves both challengers doing something which takes a long time for one of them to give up, like say a tug of war or something, some brief displays of time elapsed. But it's easier to manipulate results without transparency. Not saying they are manipulating results but it's so much easier for them to do so, with viewers having no idea where the challengers stand relative to each other after say 50 hours or 75 hours or going into the final few hours. If they were playing favorites, it would be easier to make some older players more competitive in Finals which has long running and swimming portions. So if there were real fit 22-year olds going up against 40 year olds who smoked or something, they don't show the times.

Or say that Alissa said it and then loop it in afterwards in post. Still think of UnReal show, where different producers were gaslighting different cast members, stoking them into confrontations. If reality show producers weren't that awful, that show probably became a bible for producers to stoop as low as possible in being manipulative.

Main thing I could think of about Phenom Penh is that I hope she's not relying on v-logging for her income. The cheap rent probably lets her try it, to see if she can make some money out of it, but otherwise? Kind of an out of left field choice for someone to learn the language before ever visiting and planning for a long time to move over there. -
If Olivia didn't get injured, likely they would have ganged up on Olivia and Horatio, try to hurt them like they did with the sling shots and the bola task (drinking the shake) or they wouldn't have cooperated on the puzzles like Aneesa and Jordan did with Banany. Because they're younger and likely to outrun them. Also it's safer to hurt or freeze out relative unknowns rather than vets with whom you may have relationships outside the game or maybe potential allies in future seasons. However, I think the thing that makes them good for the final, their fitness, probably makes them vulnerable for the mass food eating tasks, probably would have really hampered them.

Slate Culture Gabfest talked about this show, very split opinion. One of them was aghast about the things Jimmy did -- and apparently does more in coming episodes which wouldn't be condoned by any professional therapist. They liked other characters more, like Harrison Ford, than Jimmy.

I think Aneesa's lack of fitness and weight made it more likely she'd turn her ankle or get injured in another way. NBA teams do what is called load management to limit the amount of minutes their star players play. They cite research showing that fatigue leads to more injuries. These are the most fit people on earth but they know there's a threshold where fatigue makes them movement less stable and that is when injuries occur. When you're tired and you can't plant your feet as you run in a consistent manner, that is where you can roll an ankle. The uneven terrain doesn't help but it could also happen on flat surfaces if fatigue makes your feet not land consistently as you run. Jordan's attitude probably didn't help though.

Yeah they definitely showed a side of Joel who killed those guys. But he had no choice, he knew they weren't going to just take their stuff and let them go on their way -- well they would have taken the truck and the fuel and the guns so they couldn't make their trip. His priority is to get Ellie and himself out of there first, figure out how to make it to Wyoming some other way. But like he said, he's been on both sides of ambushes so he knows how it would have gone if he didn't kill them. If this was TWD, it wouldn't have been this ruthless, efficient confrontation. No, Bryan would have done more than beg for his life, he would have given a speech and Joel would have done the same before trying to kill each other. Then Kathleen would have speechified some more, even before killing the doctor.

Doesn't seem like Devin and Tori got enough of a lead for finishing way before the others. Didn't they each start just a couple of minutes later after Devin and Tori left to run towards the cars? In any even the eating challenge flipped the game or at least that day's results. Then they all run towards the helicopter. Presumably Banany goes on the copter first? Nany says her knee hurt but seemed okay the next morning running and pushing the car.

There were 50 states and who knows how many county examiners? Probably they had different definitions for tallying causes of deaths, especially in a pandemic involving a new infectious disease. Bill has consistently tried to diminish covid. He flipped on masking and on vaccines real quick. He hated doing shows in his backyard back in 2020 and he wanted to do it before a live audience. Maybe he needed his live gigs to provide the income he was accustomed to. Still keeps saying young and thin people have nothing to worry about. But among the over million deaths in the US and millions across the nation, it wasn't only diabetics or people with other chronic diseases who were dying. May be a small percentage but it was far from zero. -
Yes it did. Sorry didn't update but it's happened more than once and has resolved itself each time. I don't know if it's being fixed on the server or my browser just stops running into the error. Always seemed temporary but I figured I'd report it.

Do you think they weren't counting deaths from car accidents, gun shots, overdoses in previous years? We're talking about excess deaths, before and after the pandemic. Or do you think there was more of an increase in car accident, gun shot and overdose deaths during the pandemic than covid deaths? This is the CDC dashboard of excess deaths, both actual and expected. https://www.cdc.gov/nchs/nvss/vsrr/covid19/excess_deaths.htm It generates different charts depending on which parameters you select. Try selecting " Excess deaths with and without COVID-19" and then click the button to generate the chart. Even accounting for growth from other causes of deaths, you can see that since early 2020, we're well above the expected deaths, the red crosses at the top of the chart. The people who spout the "die with covid, not because of covid" claims don't expect people to do even basic research for themselves. It's probably cost the global economy trillions and will cost trillions more, no matter how much Bill and others of his ilk try to diminish the impact. -
He had some other roles before seasons 1 and 2. May explain why season 2 came out later, especially the last 4 EVs. Probably more money in those other roles. Maybe caused friction because season 2 was delayed. Also, he didn’t seem as into it in season 2, at least in some episodes.

Alyssa is awful but apparently Hayley shirked her responsibilities to clean the bathroom that they shared more than once. The entire interior is a disaster this season. Sandy may be showing favoritism but it says something when the exterior, led by Ross, is better regarded. Katie is such a doormat but it shows how much this is a TV show, not anything close to a working situation of any kind, that Ross and Katie can have sex on the work premises and make out during working hours. The little row over Fraser encouraging guests to pack up early vs. Sandy thinking it was rushing them off the yacht looks like something manufactured. In a real hospitality situation, there are hard deadlines on checking out But no drama because the deadline is observed without incident. Only on reality show would it become a big deal. Producers working overtime for Sandy to alienate the crew or become alienated by them. I wouldn’t put it past them to encourage Alyssa’s vulgarity or give her actual lines or add it in post to “punch up” the scene or the growing hostility. Same with her cursing out Hayley under her breath about their dirty bathroom.

Or Stanley set a high price because he thinks he could get TV and movie roles which pay more, so he's not doing the show unless he gets paid like he would doing feature films.

So in an effort to regain some former glory, Showtime, now part of Paramount +, announced spinoffs based on Dexter and Billions. But they're also kind of bringing Homeland back. They signed George Clooney, not to star in but produce an espionage show called The Department. I don't know if it's explicitly adapted from the French series Le Bureau or just a blatant imitation of it. Like Carrie Mathison, Guillame Debailly is an agent who takes his job too seriously, decided to carry the burden of saving his country alone. Le Bureau is much more engrossing throughout its run, compared to Homeland which started fast and just was hanging on at the end. So Homeland was adapted from an Israeli series. The Department will be adapted (or unofficially copied) from a French series.

I guess with the name change, they're under pressure to find potential hits. They've bailed on American Gigolo and Let the Right on In after just one season. They're going to have to have shows to attract people to subscribe to Paramount + with Showtime. Seems like you won't be able to subscribe to Showtime by itself any more?

could be both. Searching for Mexico is coming to CNN and stanley is a producer.

They said they chose KC for this episode because they film in Calgary and thought it could look like KC. In the game, this stop is in another city.

Yeah it was the obvious choice, only one with 2 bathrooms? The other ones had big drawbacks, since she wanted to be in town. So this is the first episode I can recall in a couple of years where the house hunters are riding together to the houses in the same car. They didn't even bother getting Katy a rental car, so she doesn't plan to have a car -- said it had to be within 15 minutes of central Stuttgart by public transportation.
