If he was abused and the kids are mocking him for his hangup, which may be related to the abuse, then they're truly monstrous.

Conor hasn't mentioned his presidential campaign at all this season. Did they just drop it or is he dropping it because the Broadway play has killed the campaign, unless he gets a cash infusion from Logan?

Plot is really hard to follow. ZSofia's father is being harassed by young men who want to be noticed by Gomorrah, which is some Islamic group or in the video they speak in Farsi and talk about battling the cross or something. ZSofia says they're linked to some Islamic group based in the Ukraine. But the young men are anti-immigrant and there are Hungarian politicians who stoke anti-immigrant anger. Andreas Juszt was taken in by a Muslim immigrant couple until they died and when he grew up he fell in with some anti-immigrant group? And that group decided to kill the husband of the UK ambassador to Hungary and take her sons for what exactly? Compared to the seasons of Missing, these are very elaborate cases. In those early seasons, Baptiste made a lot of personal sacrifices to pursue these cases. In the last season, these sacrifices included putting his family in danger. Although his family wasn't directly harmed by that case, it led to his daughter relapsing and dying of a drug OD. So you can say Baptiste and Emma have empathy for each other because they've lost children, even before this case. Then again, Baptiste has always had compassion for the parents, as that is what presumably drove him to pursue these cases to the end. I don't recall if they showed much of his personal life in those first seasons, other than that he had a terminal condition so that kind of drove him, to solve these cases and return the children before he would pass away. So I'm not sure if the pain and regret from losing his daughter would be especially important at this point. Even if he didn't suffer that loss, he'd still be in Budapest working this case. Even if it meant his wife leaves him. It's telling, the man who helped Emma abduct Andreas can't be involved any longer because he has a family to return to and he can't get in trouble for their sake. So it makes it seem like Emma has to turn to Julien since he's lost his daughter and now his wife but the truth is, family never stopped him from working these cases.

In season 1, at the wedding, Greg tells him, outside the castle, that he saved some docs. Kendall was looking to get high so it’s surprising that he retained it. but it was right before he took that fateful drive. notice Marcia subtly suggested to Logan that he could use that event to take Kendall down and Logan said something about how he could be blown up too.

Do they go to actual restaurants? in the early seasons, some of the restaurant names and concepts sounded like satire. -
OTOH, I don't know why they'd be impressed/intimidated by donuts. Conor was complaining earlier that he had to fly commercial instead of private and had to settle for refrigerated cheese in first class. Is there some luxe donut makers which cater to the ultra rich? Like those $200 hamburgers with gold leaf?

Would Kendall have had a better chance if he approached his siblings individually instead of as a group? Because the competitive dynamic probably didn't help his case.
-
I don't think Rhea is coming back -- what did Marcia call her? The actor who played Sandy is not coming back, which is why they had him on speaker in this episode. Instead they introduce his daughter, played by Hope Davis! So they're adding some heavy hitters.

The Shiv and Tom "I love you" exchanges go back to that scene in the beach of the season 2 finale, where Tom says he doesn't want an open marriage or a threesome and how he's unhappy in the marriage. Shiv wants him more now? Is she going to be a good wife from now on or just until she comes across another Nate or the actor? Or a yacht stewardess that she claims she lined up for Tom but is interested in herself? She might have to button down her personal life though, if she wants to take over a very high profile role in the company.

Curb Your Enthusiasm - General Discussion

Sure but the reaction to Larry seems universal. Jon Hamm said when he did a movie based on Larry, the audience they tested always came back with the reaction of the character being "repugnant." Now he's pitching a show based on his life, Young Larry? Funny premise, and I guess the inside joke is now he's going to streamers because he's burned his bridges with HBO and all the broadcast networks in season 2 when he was pitching shows for Jason Alexander and Julia Louis-Drefus. -

I just watched the episode from season 3 where they're looking to invest in a restaurant and Larry is impressed by a restauranteur preventing spilled coffee from staining a couch. The B-plot is that Cheryl is spending a lot of time playing tennis with an actor and Larry is suspicious of his motives. At the end of the episode, Cheryl has wine spilled on her blouse and the actor uses the same trick Larry learned to try to prevent staining and he's rubbing Cheryl's breasts while Larry is looking on confused whether it's a legit attempt to prevent staining or the guy is using it as an excuse to grope Cheryl. I thought Larry was going to try to use the same trick to prevent staining in this episode. -
Kendall is trying to juggle a lot of balls. He could drop the dime on Logan with Greg's papers, he could cut a deal with the siblings or he could cut a deal with Stewy and Sandy. Or all of the above. He seemed to be really counting on the siblings agreeing to join him. He was right, and Gerri agreed, that if they all came out jointly against Logan, they'd kill any chance he has of retaining control of the company. Maybe Conor was the only one who wasn't ready to betray the father. For Shiv and Roman, the notion of Kendall having the top seat was a dealbreaker. For whatever reason, both of them really want it, as does Kendall. They were all spoiled all their lives -- you see them riding an elephant on the estate in the opening montage now -- and Kendall at least worked his way up through the company, though very fast rise probably, and Shiv cut her own path outside of the company. Roman hasn't done as much but he could have just been content with the money he already had. Kieran Caulkin says Roman won't have his brothers or sister over him in the company. Maybe it speaks to their ambitions but when they were arguing about who'd be in charge, it seemed like siblings but adolescents fighting over a toy or over being their parents' favorite. Ultimately, it may just be that spoiled rich kids grow up to be spoiled rich adults, with no complicated motivations like drive or ambition, just getting what they think is theirs. The Roy kids may all think Waystar Royco is theirs. We don't know if Kendall cut a deal with Stewy and Sandy in the limo but I don't know why they'd agree to letting the Roy kids control the company, not even go to shareholder votes. Unless Kendall promised him so much money that they'd be willing to walk away or they just control the board. Kendall made an interesting assessment of Waystar's past and future prospects. He says the company has had a corrosive effect on democracy so there is money to be made by becoming a trustee media source. Not sure how that would make them more valuable than Big Tech or for that matter, other large media companies with large news divisions. He's also right that they all knew, growing up, that there were creepy people running some of Waystar's businesses and they were warned as well as instinctively knowing that there was wrongdoing going on. They may not have known the details, as Shiv was claiming but they knew something was off. So will that protect Shiv if she's the public face of Waystar and the Roy family? Kendall says her teats protect her and give her credibility because of the sex scandals. Supposedly Gerri wasn't involved at all with the Cruises business but Logan may be thinking that she was still a high-ranking officer at Waystar so she knew or probably should have known. That is what he's dangling at Shiv but she may not necessarily be immune. Logan wanted Marcia back for the optics (and was willing to pay for having her back at his side), to show a united front of family. But when they land in front of the paparazzi, it's Shiv whom he wants to be hugging for the photos, again for the optics.

S19.E31: Saru Jayaraman; Andrew Yang; John McWhorter

Yang is a fraud. He couldn’t get support in the Democratic primaries, couldn’t get support running for mayor, now formed his own party. Then wants to lecture Democrats about not getting it with predominantly white states like Oh or IA. Well some Democrats actually win elections and hold office. -
Interview with Chef Eat My Cooter Rachel. https://slate.com/podcasts/the-waves/2021/10/below-decks-chef-rachel-hargrove She will be on the new season. She says her infamous rant was in reaction to the preference sheet and production. you can read between the lines but the preference sheets are put together by production. They probably contain some of the things the guests want. But they also contain things production wants. She says she got dragged on social media for the rant.

Yeah I agree, but I guess they didn’t want to renovate and she wanted to be in a bigger city with parks, restaurants all nearby. She had a career but guess she was going to be stay at home mother so wanted to be near all the amenities. If they don’t speak French they may also have a better chance to meet expats in Nice. Adrian didn’t make it down there. -

My DVR recorded a Mexico City episode this week. She went from Brooklyn to be with him in MC. She wanted to be in one of the more expensive neighborhoods while he wanted to be closer to his business, which is a dojo teaching Karate. She really wanted that neighborhood, Roma Nova or something like that. It was $200 above their budget of $1000 for a 2 bedroom. The place they chose was $750 for a 2 bedroom and was near this big wide boulevard modeled on the Champs Elysee but goes on for 9 miles. Yeah she didn't like the noise and lack of neighborhood vibe with the restaurants and cafes but she relented in the end. They said in the months after scene that they were now engaged. -
Wonder if Chase has the desire or the energy to do a series.

Yeah I noticed how unnaturally white and bright Kyle's teeth were. If he wins the big prize, he might blow it on more cosmetic procedures. Though who knows if he will get serious with the baby momma and actually try to have a more family lifestyle.

Sydney couple made the right decision as far as commuting for him. The place they chose didn't have views but they could walk to waterfront views of the Sydney Opera House and the Harbour, as well as the Harbour Bridge, all iconic sights. I do like views of Bondi too. They also have these boardwalks along the coast there so you can really get a lot of water views. But if their main lifestyle is work, then going out to eat and drink, probably better near the CBD. -
DIdn't TJ said the team who goes the farthest and fastest? Even if Kyle doesn't get credit for the plug, he went further than anyone else who didn't get a plug. Who knows how they decide the winners of these things. Then they had several of them FaceTiming with people back home, like they all had to win the money. Cory didn't FaceTime but he had a stack of prints of his children's photos. Maybe if he ever wins the big money, he can get a large screen phone with a big cloud account so he can always access photos of his kids. He organized boot camp for the Ruby Cell so MTV would have some filler footage to fill this episode. I don't know that Ed had an easy opponent, though he may have been able to beat Nelson, Cory and maybe CT. Probably Logan too, though I don't think the hamstring would have mattered that much in Pole Wrestling. They did all those glam shots of Ed flexing his biceps and he goes 0-2. He did burn himself up while Kyle preserved his energy. Strange that Kyle didn't infiltrate Emerald, though there probably would have been resentment. But CT also wasn't too happy to get Kyle either.

Looks like Caitlin Fitzgerald (Tabitha) won't be in this season as she's not credited in any of the 2021 episodes. Last episode she was credited in was Dundee so she wasn't in either of the final 2 episodes of S02. Makes sense, that is when Roman went to Turkey to try to get money to take Waystar private and then he was held hostage and finally got out for the finale. They had an interesting dynamic, Roman and Tabitha, who continually mocked him for them not having sex. Why did he even get together with her, because he wanted to troll Tom? Why was she interested in him? In any event, they're doubling down on Roman and Gerri, for now.
-
Retired after many years in the police so probably has a nice pension. But he did sleep in the hotel lobby and ate some food that was out there.
-
That reminds me, first season at a family get-together, Logan got mad at Kendall's kid, yelled at him or slapped him. But the cast was on Colbert and Bryan Cox said that Jesse Armstrong told him that Logan loves his kids. So he was apologetic when he slapped Roman and he did try to do therapy in the Austerlitz episode, though it was mostly photo ops for PR.
-
Well something was bothering him most of season 2 after the Chappaquiddick. Kendall was crushed when he and Logan went to visit the parents of the guy and later came and dropped a load of cash. He couldn't openly apologize or express contrition. He may not have the biggest conscience but he has a conscience. You wonder where he would have gotten conscience but Logan probably wasn't too hands on with raising the children. But their mother doesn't seem like the warm and emotionally-supportive type either. Jeremy Strong also has said that he believe Kendall flipped on Logan when he dismissed the guy who died as NRPI. Kendall doesn't have the same sense of ethics, especially when it comes to poorer people, as his father.
-
But he does have a conscience whereas Logan doesn't. That's why Logan uses terms like NRPI and derided Kendall for not being a killer. Logan will do anything to hold onto power. He was going to try to put on a soft face by hiring Lisa Arthur, who is apparently like Gloria Allred who's represented sexual harassment victims, so it would given him credibility to be defended by a lawyer/advocate known to champion victims of sexual harassment or assault when he is accused of covering up repeated sexual harassment and assault. When he didn't get LA, he said they would hire Layton and go beast on his opponents.
