  1. New Rules or Boomer strikes back at Millenials and Gen Z. Is he wrong that these younger generations, who’ve blamed Boomers for ruining the planet, aspire to the same wasteful consumption which has destroyed the environment? Just saw a headline that crypto currency mining uses about .6% of the electricity generated in the world or about the amount used by New Zealand. Here’s another article which compares the energy used by Bitcoin mining. https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2021/09/03/climate/bitcoin-carbon-footprint-electricity.html The figure that 94% of bitcoins (or was it all crypto currencies) are bought by Millenials and Gen Z is astounding. First of all, these young generations are suppose to have less money. Or they complain that Boomers took all the money yet they’re putting money into something so speculative? Crypto seems like a get-rich scheme with the bubble about to pop. Meanwhile it’s likely that most of the 279 million who follow Kylie Jenner on IG are young people. Presumably enough people buy the products she shills for on her IG feed or else she wouldn’t be making all that money just showing them off. In political polling, the younger generations support progressive, socialist and sustainable policies. But even though they are now the largest electoral cohorts, they punch below their weight in elections — lower turnout percentages than older generations. By the time they vote more frequently, they may no longer be as progressive, especially if they’ve embraced the same wasteful lifestyles that they’ve accused Boomers of living.
  2. Was listening to a podcast, that Kendall is the type who'd at least try to make small talk with the help, whereas the other Roy kids wouldn't. They would at best pretend not to notice them or be openly dismissive. In fact, maybe only Kendall tries to relate to Greg while the others are cordial at most. Though Kendall may have screwed up by not buying the watch for Greg, could come back to regret not locking up Greg for Team Kendall. But if you want the perfect distillation of what the show is about in under 2 minutes:
  3. But did Chase have this ending in mind when he wrote it or years later, he gets a do-over, since he has years of reactions from viewers.
  4. New cast additions for season 2 and info. about the setting. https://deadline.com/2021/11/perry-mason-season-2-katherine-waterston-hope-davis-new-cast-diarra-kilpatrick-promoted-to-series-regular-1234868184/ I'd forgotten that the first season, and apparently the second season, is set during the Depression. I think the old series was set much later right, like the '50s or the '60s? So is Perry suppose to be in his 20s in the HBO show while he was what in his 50s or 60s on the old TV show?
  5. Does anyone remember The Producers season (season 4)? Larry rehearses all season and the season finale is opening night for the play. A subplot for the whole season is that Larry gets to have sex one time with another woman but he has to do it before their 10th anniversary, which is also on the opening night of the play. He's had problems hooking up with women. For instance, a beautiful young Hasidic woman, played by Gina Gershon, is interested in sleeping with him so Larry shows up at the hotel room with a sheet with a hole in it (legend that the Hasidim have sex through sheets). But then an earthquake happens and that cock blocks LD. Finally on opening night, a cast member in the play wants to have sex with him in the dressing room and they start making out but Larry sees a George W. Bush framed photo and it turns out she's a supporter of Bush 43. Larry can't do it so that ends that. That episode aired in 2004 so clear what LD's politics are.
  6. I thought the daily gave an advantage to Emerald again. Two extra people pulling on the rope tied to the chest. The other thing, which they might not have done, is to have the two extra people take turns going underwater to unit the knot. Could be the Sapphire, CT and Kyle had to catch their breath going after the rope. Yeah that elimination didn't favor Cory, despite his arm muscles. I think the lower arm muscles came more into play than biceps. Also, it was a contest of maintaining balance between an American football player and a futbol or soccer player. If Logan is hardcore about soccer, he'd have more stamina as well as just strong core and legs. And he picked up a good strategy, which was to time his attacks for when Cory relaxed after whipping the rope for awhile. I'm surprised CT didn't try to help by yelling ideas from the side, because Cory infiltration Emerald would have been helpful. However, if CT gets to the Finals, he can go against any of the remaining men, though Logan is kind of an unknown. But if he has stamina and is willing to eat nasty food, he'd be formidable. But there would be many puzzles in different stages of the Final.
  7. Well she talked the talk in season 1. And even in season 2 she expressed criticisms of ATN personalities and tactics. In season 1, they had that confrontation at Conor's compound in New Mexico. Marcia went up to her in the kitchen, pointed out fake Bernie Sanders, whom Shiv worked for, is trying to hurt her father. But much of season 2 was about Shiv admitting and embracing that she wanted to take over Waystar. She didn't say much about reforming or fixing problems there, just that she wanted the top job. At least Kendall talked about undoing the toxicity of ATN and Waystar's other media assets. BTW, I think this is supposedly what happened with James Murdoch, he wanted to change News Corp's ways and ended up leaving over dispute with his family.
  8. Yeah those prices weren't too bad in Brisbane. Maxine cited walking times to his work. He wasn't taking public transport? Maybe live closer to the office rather than Bris-vegas or whatever they called it? She may have preferred to be near parks or places where she has something to do, unless she is hanging out a lot at restaurants and cafes by herself during the day.
  9. Susie's obscenity riffs became popular and they try to feature it every time she appears in an episode. That is why maybe you can't take CYE characters too seriously. She's more of a cartoon character, rolled out to do her signature schtik Larry and Jeff do awful things but the antics they get up to may be no more reflective of LD and Jeff Green than Susie swearing up a storm is indicative of Susie Essman's personality IRL. In S04E09, Larry's longtime assistant Antoinette is distressed because her bf broke up with her. She's trying to find a sympathetic shoulder to cry on and Larry can't be more of an asshole, barely listening and then cutting her off, complaining that she forgot to do some tasks and gives her more tasks. Larry tells Jeff that he had wanted to fire her but is now stuck with her because he'd look bad if he fired her now. Then she forgets more errands and Larry tells her she's not doing her job and she gets mad and says she's quitting and is going to tell everyone about the things Larry does, the things he says behind other people's backs. Larry is terrified, says he'll be ruined. So he goes and talks to Antoinette's bf, to try to get them back together, not because he wants to help them but because he wants to keep his secrets hidden. So he does a nice thing for the wrong motives and that's suppose to be comic. In contrast, a show like Schitt's Creek is the opposite of CYE. There the characters are ultimately nice and sweet to each other, even if they're mocking or sniping at each other. In the end they support each other despite misfortune. LD would be aghast at doing a show like that, where the people are preternaturally nice, learning life lessons all the time.
  10. What kind of a Swedish name is Buchanan? She claims to be athletic. Wonder if they'll give her another chance.
  11. I have no problems with the replacements for Kate and Sandy the past couple of seasons of BD and BDM. Kate bullied new stews. Her antics wouldn't have aged well if she continued.
  12. I guess their point was that the Pierces weren't this ostentatious family, jetting around everywhere. They were kind of nerdy, with that one Pierce going for his second PhD. The Roys mocked some of them openly to their faces. Naomi didn't live on the Pierce compound, instead she lived in CA and as a recovering addict, I vaguely recall that she lived somewhat of an alternative life, kind of New Age-y. That was in season 2, though later in that season, she was jet setting in Europe and tried to hook up with Kendall in the UK and then on that yacht until Logan chased her off, saying this humongous yacht didn't have enough provisions for an extra guest.
  13. If I'm not mistaken, the water company is owned or headed by the same woman who was one of the alumni on stage at the Stanford reunion episode. But Issa dealt with some other guy who initially didn't like the show that Crenshawn had planned. Issa tried to go around this guy to the fellow alumna but she backed her guy. So Issa then tried to get Crenshawn to cut out some of the things the guy wanted to remove. But turns out the guy liked all the things Crenshawn did anyways.
  14. I thought they clicked pretty well when she picked him up in the Lyft a season or two ago. Then they found ways to hang out, even though he sometimes went back to Houston? That one time, they snuck into her childhood home and went skinny dipping in broad daylight in the pool. But it seems to have been a long time since they spent time together, especially romantically. Issa hasn't dated as many men as Molly has during the run of the show. She seems more likely to try to go back to her former beaus.
  15. In some places, hotel rooms are significant cost, easily $200 a night and up. So for Paris, London, Sydney and other capital cities, it definitely makes sense that the house hunters will want an extra room for visitors. Have no doubt that some house hunters have every intention to host their friends and relatives from back home, because those are also desirable places for people to visit, even if they weren't going to see their friends or family. I would think for close family like parents or siblings, the hosts would be more willing to pay for hotel rooms if they can't host them. Or at least try to help defray costs of visits, since it's pricey airline tickets and then restaurant meals and other trip expenses. But in this NZ episode, it's more of a weekend visit situation. Even though it's the parents of one of the house hunters, you figure the parents would be willing to pay for their own accommodations, since they're likely to have more money than the young couple.
  16. I was thinking more young Colonel Sanders. And a young black woman wants to get with that?
  17. Pan by Sepinwall. https://www.rollingstone.com/tv/tv-reviews/dexter-new-blood-review-1249666/ Looks like the reviews won't be good. BTW, it's called Dexter New Blood so I had to make a new DVR season pass. Maybe it should be a new forum?
  18. One of the podcasters pointed out that Naomi being part of this posse, going around in limousines, is off brand for what we learned about her. Certainly she would be enabling Kendall's addiction but the whole limo scene seems off.
  19. Even if wasn't a set up, his father got killed and he went ahead with killing all those people, as well as fake his own execution. So if he didn't intend to have his father killed, he had solidarity with those who killed his father and went on to work for them.
  20. Maybe it's suppose to be comic because Susie terrified both Jeff and Larry. So he cheats. In the early seasons, Jeff has Larry retrieve his porn stash while he's in hospital because he's afraid she might find it. Then in another episode, Jeff is attracted to one of Larry's ex-girlfriends and hits on her. They were separated for awhile and then he goes back. Meanwhile Susie got a big dog as protection but Jeff is allergic and Susie and their daughter refuse to get rid of the dog. So maybe Jeff cheats to have a little rebellion. Not justifying it, maybe the joke is that he's married to someone he's not attracted to, but is scared of. So instead of divorcing her he has to sneak around and Larry gets ensnared in these plots where they have to secretly get into shenanigans.
  21. In season 4, Larry is cast to be in The Producers on Broadway by Mel Brooks because he was impressed with a karaoke song Larry did. Another arc from that season is that Cheryl is going to permit Larry to have sex with another woman, one time, for their 10th wedding anniversary. She had told him he could before they were engaged. She's skeptical that he could get anyone. Larry learns to dance, practices it and becomes good at it. He's not doubling down on his wealth and privilege either. In fact, he befriends a blind guy and cleans up around his house for him, tries to fix him up with a woman. So this current Larry, who is pushy with his opinions and makes others accommodate him is quite the contrast from Larry of earlier seasons. He does get into predicaments though, not because he's using his privilege. For instance, he inadvertently mistakes the golf club attendant as being Swedish but he turned out to be Norwegian and took offense at being mistaken for a Swede. So he takes one of Larry's favorite golf clubs and puts it in the casket with Marty Funkheiser's father for the funeral. Larry notices this and conspires with Jeff to swap out the clubs with one of Jeff's clubs and they get caught and thrown out of the country club. Cheryl and Susie are both irate. Cheryl suggests they join a club in Beverly Hills but Susie says no way they'd have them because it's a WASPY Republican club, which wouldn't accept Jews. Cheryl and Larry try to join anyways, pretending to be Republicans, having met while working on Reagan's campaign, driving a Hummer. Meanwhile, Larry goes to the bathroom in Jeff and Susie's home and their dog bites him in the penis. So a dental hygienist who's been coming on to Larry suggests they meet but Larry tells her he can't because a dog bit his penis. For whatever reason, Larry has dialed up the cantankerous old man meter way up in the first couple of episodes this season.
  22. They're going to make a big deal out of Eddie calling Rachel out for her drunken shenanigans from last season? That beach setup was nice, a wooden boardwalk with canopies and a nicely set table, with water views all around. How is that any different from having their little lunch on board the yacht? Considering that they had to wait a couple of hours while they waited for Sean to set up the picnic, why didn't they complain about that instead of a nothing burger like the trash bag and towels? Why were they going around barefoot on deck? The one guy got his foot cut but when they were docking, he stepped on the line to catch it. Another "it's going to be SO tough" docking scene.
  23. So Gomorrah tries to pin the kidnappings on Islamic extremists, which would be their enemy since they don't want any immigrants in Hungary. It's actually far right nationalists types, anti-immigrant, who want to kill immigrants. Yeah they need to explain why Alex fell in with them and set up his father to be killed and his brother to be abducted, just to keep his cover. It's one thing to become a true believer, as far-fetched as it would appear in Alex's case. But it's another thing for him to kill his father and abduct his brother. If Alex's role isn't plausible, this season could fall apart pretty badly. He was an enthusiastic sniper so he obviously had no problem with his father being killed and his brother being abducted.
  24. On the one hand Kendall felt good enough to play the good tweet/bad tweet game, as well as be in on the Oedipussy put downs. Certain amount of self-awareness yet Shiv’s announcement made him curl back into fetal position like most of season 2. Notice that Logan’s security guy reminded him not so subtly that he covered up the death of the guy in England. Wonder how Shiv would feel if she learned what Kendall went through. It’s like she didn’t even notice he was morose, even suicidal after they returned from England.
  25. Seems like both of them got comfortable not dating but mostly spending a lot of time together since she broke up with Lawrence. The flashbacks to Molly’s dating history from earlier seasons were good. She had an epiphany that she was always finding reasons not to be with men? Yet no way was she going out with Herbert, the guy her mother pushed on her. So will it finally be a new Molly to match her new haircut? The fashion show worked out for Issa but not a good thing that the street fashion designer went against what the client wanted. But is it suppose to mean that her business isn’t going to succeed in the long run? Or was it just one snapshot which doesn’t mean anything either way? She’s unhappy about what happened, leans on friend Nathan to drown her sorrows, then it starts to turn into a friends with benefits situation and then she can’t go through with it. These BFFs each need to find a good man?
