Glad to hear it but what is this 2-part season BS? Guess they wanted to get it out for people since it's been awhile and then save some for when more people are watching in the fall instead of the summer? Now if they were saying that they planned to film more this spring and those would be the second part of the season, that would be great, but I'm guessing no. That Nomad show sounds interesting, I guess if Tucci can't replicate the popularity of Bourdain by himself, they'll take another shot with a relatively unknown guy. Patagonia could be interesting but no food porn on that show, one would think.

8000 feet. 8000 meters would be like 24,000 feet or more. Yeah I haven't been in a gym in 2 years though they're open now. I just did walks keeping my heart rate up. But we don't know what became of their jobs, if they're teachers and had to deal with closures and remote learning and also taking care of their own kids, maybe their daily responsibilities are too great for putting in a lot of time to train. Maybe they don't have much expectations of winning, just want free trip or two.

Sicily is great but it's not really full of luxury resorts like Hawaii.
-
Surprised they don't do that in Europe. Tons of paragliders in the Alps. In fact, now that I think about it, they may have done it in Chamonix, France, which is near Mont Blanc.

I missed that. So maybe Akbar was beating himself up, not just Sheri, for doing that task. Can people with fear of heights go on cable cars or peer over the railings from an observation deck at 8000 feet above sea level? I've never had problems with those but I don't know that I would bungee-jump or do paragliding where you're running off a cliff with an experienced tandem paragliding pilot. Has TAR ever done a tandem paragliding or parachuting detour/road block? I've seen tandem parachuting on some other shows but maybe there are insurance issues or TAR doesn't make them sign the same kind of liability waivers as shows like The Challenge. I believe that some professional athletes have contracts with specific provisions to bar them from doing things like that or even something like skiing, not just because of the risk of fatality but serious injury which devalues a multi-year contract.

Thing is, they've been getting bystanders to open GPS apps for them on their phones or borrowing the phones. They've done the same with their taxi drivers too. Or they even got people to lend them their phones to run apps or make phone calls. So they either ban technology or allow it all the way. Choose a lane.

Yeah GPS has taken me on some rural roads where there was barely room for one car in one direction let alone two cars. In some cases, I didn't take the turn and it recalculates for the most part. Obviously there are going to be areas where they haven't surveyed the roads recently. But the point is, GPS software is constantly getting updated maps while paper maps are static. Then you have the points of interest information, so you can search for parking, restaurants, gas stations or tourist attractions -- you can use it while walking on foot to navigate an unfamiliar town.
-
I used paper maps for decades before I went GPS. I would pull over and check paper maps more than once during a drive in an unfamiliar place. Would have to find where I was to get a sense or how much further I had to go or even to make sure I was on the correct path. It used to be Garmin devices on which I'd spend time and money downloading new maps of foreign countries. Then with smart phones, I just decided I would pay for mobile data to have flexibility, like during a drive it would let me detour. There are times when you drive in rural areas where you lose connectivity. But the way Google Maps works is that when you calculate the route at the start of the trip, it will keep tracking even if you lose data connections during the drive. The GPS will keep tracking unless you're in some canyon or something. Or navigation apps will let you download maps for offline use. But it's rare that you lose connectivity and can't have it recalculate the directions.

The actor who plays Nate said he spent 5 hours having prosthetics put on and makeup to make his face beat up. Guess they didn't want him to do that prosthetic thing all season. Plus he's on the show as eye candy.

I think navigation was obviously a problem. Thing is, these days people would use GPS. I know travel is central to the game but people wouldn't be driving thees day only using paper maps. Seems like the eliminated team not only departed for the pit stop later, they also got lost. But they want to keep the format of the partner being in the back being the navigator so that there might be some conflict if they're having problems finding their destination. Or is it because they have to have the camera crew on the right side of the car that they can't have both racers in the front seats? Have they not heard of dash visor cams? Seemed a long shot that the couple who left the mountain the last were able to ace the flag tossing. Did they pass on the first attempt? The peak they went to is Santis, SW of St. Gallen where they started. The cable car is only like 10 minutes to climb and descend, despite being 8200 feet above sea level because they're already at high elevations.

Lena tells EW that she’s had informal talks with HBO about a reboot, similar to And Just Like that. https://ew.com/tv/lena-dunham-girls-revival-and-just-like-that-hbo-thr/ Hopefully it wouldn’t be too similar to the SATC reboot, that is, it wouldn’t suck.🤗

The point is that he wants to be perceived. He's playing for the cameras. They were walking out of that restaurant and he saw the shallow pool and wanted to jump in but he was wearing someone else's shirt and that person (either Wes or Fraser) pleaded with him not to jump in with his shirt on so he took it off and then jumped in. Showing off the thong for the cameras, the same thing. Everyone encouraging Rayna to get into cooking is the same as them discouraging her from continuing with yachting. In this or a previous episode, they had a wide shot of the yacht at its anchorage. You could see the port in the background so it appears like they moved only like a kilometer out of port as the crow flies. Probably a small island but in other seasons of BD and BDM, you never get the sense that they go too far from port. Maybe just enough to show them moving a bit and then dropping anchor and then returning and docking. Once, either BD or BDM, they had to travel like 3 or 4 hours to pick up guests. But that's about it. When you go to the Mediterranean, you often see these big yachts moored away from the coastline but not that far. Or they're in port like at Monaco. Probably the billionaires want to be near all the coastal amenities, including maybe sleeping in a luxury hotel or dining at a famous restaurant. In fact, they may take their yachts to exotic places like the South of France but it wouldn't be surprising if they just have the crew take the yacht across the water while they will fly in their private jets to meet it. So in effect, these super yachts are like floating lounges for them, but they don't spend all their time on it, despite the hundreds of millions it cost them. Maybe these speculations are wrong though, maybe they really dig the water slides and jet skis that much.

I remember a game on the Sega Genesis that I got obsessed with finishing. Games in those days didn't have much storytelling. So the gist of the game is you fight aliens through all these levels and IIRC, there were little animated sections between levels which told snippets of a story. The hero character that you controlled was on some distant planet and the aliens he killed were bent on invading the earth, using humans for some awful purpose like using them for food or something like that. In the end, when you beat the game, the character saved the earth from invasion. But he's stranded on the planet and no other person will ever know what he did because there is no hope of him getting back. The bittersweet ending kind of resonated, though I didn't play the game again, but thought about it for awhile afterwards.

Maxine didn’t like the guy but she liked another guy on a different episode. Maybe if she found him more charming she’d have shown him some better options. I thought the Gold Coast was north of Brisbane. -

But if they were so tolerant, why is he closeted? Eli may allow him to live with that guy in one of the Gemstones mansions in an openly gay relationship. But maybe Kelvin fears being mercilessly trolled about it by Judy, who’s also married to a guy in denial about being gay, and Jesse. -
Traveling Stories: Station Eleven Book Talk

That would be a big deal, not just to those who survived the pandemic but even to those born after the Flu. On the show, they chose to concentrate on relationships and character development but some of these details on restoring things or securing food supplies have a direct bearing on their daily lives and thus the relationships. Survival or securing basic needs becomes a daily preoccupation and something that forms a larger part of their consciousness than reading comic books or putting on Shakespeare plays. Do the comic book and Shakespeare plays play as prominent a role in the book? Are they the things which drive or preoccupy characters? Only the Sevryn Airport episode really touched on things like getting power. They didn't talk about food other than they had existing supplies but eventually they find a way to farm. Electricity would be a comfort to those at the airport. If they couldn't keep the lights on those survivors would probably be more anxiety-ridden. OTOH, those lights might attract other people, potentially hostile. But as it was described, the airport has one access road so it was possible to secure against intruders. In general, restoring electricity and growing food would be positive milestones, things people would look forward to and things people could work towards. In contrast, it's hard to see how performing plays year after year in some traveling caravan would give people a sense of progress or some reasons to hope life would improve. Sure they could reconnect with old friends or people with whom they bonded in surviving the ordeal of most of the human race dying and civilization ending. Maybe those human bonds can sustain them but indefinitely? Is there some hope that the 23rd performance of Hamlet will yield some truth or inspiration which improves their mood or increases optimism of a better life ahead for them and their children? Or will it be some sense of progress, some restoration of a life other than nomadic, aimless peregrinations which make them more hopeful and brightens their mood? -

How do they not know that Kelvin is closeted with his homoerotic god squad thing? He must be getting a decent allowance to house and feed all those men. Jesse can't muster up $10 million to invest in that Florida scam but Kelvin spends his allowance on the god squad? Of course this show is going to go there with manscaping and highly suggestive visuals. -
No definite timetable so maybe later this year if filming goes right.

Jersey Shore Cape May certainly is not what one would associate with New Jersey. Certainly historic with the Underground Railroad and the Victorian buildings. Then all the bucolic landscapes with farms. But if you look at it on a map it’s surrounded by water as one would expect with that name but Samantha didn’t feature any waterfront. For oceanfront, she featured Ashbury Park, which is much further north. Of course a lot of music history with Springsteen’s past there. Again these places seem like weekend destinations for people who live nearby, such as when she had episodes in upper NY state or Vermont. Tourists visiting NYC would be hard-pressed to visit these places. Ashbury Park is almost 2 hour drive from NYC while Cape May is almost 4 hours from the Big Apple. Samantha isn’t distancing or using a mask like last season. She even goes inside the Stone Pony club, refers to how we haven’t been able to go listen to music in a club for a year. Maybe this episode was filmed before Omicron and even Delta variant had taken off. Bars and clubs are not great places to be these days.

This production had a big interruption. Apparently they filmed two episodes, which were way out of order of what they released. Then the pandemic. Other shows got disrupted by the pandemic for months or over a year. But a show involving a pandemic, suspended by a real pandemic? I wonder if they reassessed some of the details. More importantly, maybe the interruption contributed to a sense of disjoined narrative? Of course they brought most of the characters together at the end, with feel-good reunions and such. But maybe that was kind of forced?

House Hunters International - General Discussion

All the properties were in the hills, so far away from the beach and the town? Great views overlooking the city and the ocean but would they have to go down to town and back uphill for things like groceries and such? Maybe they had a car or planned to have a car. Does Taniel work all of Mexico or only the resorts on the Pacific Coast? Did he do the Mexico City episodes or the Riviera Maya ones? Such a contrast from resorts to Mexico City. -
It was winter time in the Poconos. Don't recall if Deena and Laurens was showing. So now they both gave birth since last season. Was there enough time for Angelina to get major facial plastic surgery? As for Vinnie, maybe he just wanted to get away from Staten Island, which wouldn't be the worst impulse. Mike was tearing up because the baby had a fever spike and they had to wait a day to take him home. First couple of times he got weepy it seemed heartfelt. But is he able to tear on for the cameras any time now or still real?
-
That aired 17 years ago. He would have filmed it around the time he was 23? He's from Tennessee. Maybe youth and cultural background. Question is, is he better now, especially as a father? He probably doesn't have the most progressive views but one would hope he's gotten some bit of wisdom over the years.

House Hunters International - General Discussion

It's possible some House Hunters want local charm. But it's far more likely the producers have them say that and repeat it throughout the filming, given that we've seen it over and over again. The way you know this person didn't really care that much about "German charm" despite uttering the phrase repeatedly is that she dropped it instantly and went for the modern apartment, which she decried lacked "German charm." She didn't even care enough to try to change up the phrasing for varied. -
Yeah how would they have gotten to the safe before the others? Darrel and Janelle left first and it showed at least Darrel running by himself. Only way CJ and Jonna get to the safes first is if they run by them. They might run by Janelle if she was struggling with her back but I don't see either of them outrunning Darrel, unless Janelle stopped and Darrel was forced to stop with her. Janelle said that she had the right combination numbers and that she followed the directions. Unfortunately they cut out any footage showing them following the directions and still being unable to open. Editing is suspicious.
