If they both leave Pierpoint or in Harper's case, is forced out, I don't see them getting a chance elsewhere, if another firm asks them why they left Pierpoint. In that industry, people either get hired away or they create their own firm. Harper has had success but she's only in her third year. Only way she gets accepted is if Bloom forgives her and agrees to give business to whichever firm hires her. If not Bloom than some other big client. I don't know if Harper's story arc is suppose to be representative of the industry or it's a particular tale of a hyper-competitive and self-destructive character. I don't doubt that it's very competitive and tough for a young black woman to be accepted in this atmosphere, or that younger associates are hazed and there's all kind of drugs and partying going on to blow off steam. I don't buy that they're able to do it every night and then show up for work bright and early.

I don't know if Italian food is popular in South Carolina. I don't know if French food is either. But with the affluent clientele in Charleston, there are probably some French restaurants. The cast usually go to these bar and grill types of places which serve spirits as well as beer and wine and a lot of appetizers and such. In other words, the type of places you find in every gentrified restaurant district in every US city. They don't go to ethnic places -- Charleston must have Indian restaurants for instance -- and they don't go to soul food or Southern cuisine types of places.

I wonder if life insurance fraud is a thing in Ireland. I don't know if it's a thing in the US. Like do most life insurance claims get paid or do insurers investigate and deliberate before paying out claims in the millions? I guess it would make sense if they did, but what kind of investigation is performed? Because right off the bat, the Garveys call them "insurance cunts" so maybe insurance agents have a certain reputation in Ireland or UK or Europe? I wouldn't say they're hostile to Thomas but right off the bat, it is adversarial. I get the sense that that's to be expected in the culture, even if the Garveys had nothing to hide. The writers may be assuming that American audiences would get that insurance people are shady or untrustworthy. But it may be something lost in translation.

Jackie was pretty much sidelined this episode. Dee can't find the victims or can't get them to testify against Dryden. Siobhan does an interview and her hit and run problem goes away? Caysen gets the clap. Then he has the Latina ADA tell him she'd go for him except she needs to use it for men who's going to get her somewhere. Well he transferred to the DA's office so he should go crawling back to his wife, tell her he's not a cop any more. Jenny needs to do more than just kiss. Especially when she walked in on Leticia about to give Jackie a handy on his hospital bed.

But they were making decisions which had big financial and long term implications. Sure they're totally devoted to each other but things can change. Not that he's a big earner so Nikki didn't have to worry about being financially ruined or anything, though him gambling with their joint savings before they were married should be a warning. Also, can't believe they wouldn't have been stronger candidates for adoption if they had been married. Or the adoption authorities should have pressed them more on what their plans were, because things like a stable housing situation directly relates to their marital status, or should.

S20.E26: Wynton Marsalis; Scott Galloway; Matt Welch
aghst replied to tessaray's topic in Real Time With Bill Maher
I think Galloway' arguments is that younger workers need to make themselves visible and network with other workers and management. He may not be so cynical but a lot of promotions are based on whom the bosses like. Even tech companies, where a lot of work is done on a computer screen (so it shouldn't matter where that computer screen is), tout how they're all about meritocracy. But it's often workers who are chummy with bosses, even socialize with them outside the office, who are often promoted. So really it's not just about having great attendance at the office but schmoozing people at work -- some performance reviews often include evaluations from co-workers. -

Bill wanted Biden to do a both sides about his MAGA speech. Galloway pushed back on false equivalencies and at least Bill called out Welch wHo tried to compare Stacy Abrams not being gracious in defeat to GOP election denialism. She called out her GOP opponent, who had been secretary of state for making key decisions in his own gubernatorial election. Bill should have pointed that BS out. I mean get real, Biden wasn’t going to Make his speech about the woke mob because he isn’t trying to be DeSantis. Or a bitter comic who can’t connect with young audiences. I haven’t seen the new Top Gun movie but I also find the rave reviews head scratching. Glorification of overpriced war machines, political boondoggles. -
So they just got rid of the Erica character and kept Freddy to have a redemption arc? All the characters are so likable that you don’t mind how things just work out for them. Or we're not suppose to mind. It’s suppose to be a gOod thing that Scott’s publisher went out of business because of the way they treated him? And Freddy somehow became a mogul amidst all his attempts at self-improvement to solve Jason and Nikki’s housing problem? I also missed why they were so keen to have children long before they married. Nikki seems the type who’d want to do things in a traditional order. Did they try IVF? Because it’s expensIve and would be a huge financial commitment before being married. It’s not as big as buying a house but it may be a big chunk of a down payment on a house, at least in the US. Maybe the UK NHS covers it?

It’s getting panned with extreme prejudice, 15% Top Critics score so far. Hmm may be time to catch up with Yellow Jackets or We Own this City.

Thing is though, what would they do in second or future seasons? Presumably the actors and the cast would want to do several seasons, get a good payday. Unless I missed that this is suppose to be a limited series, one season and done? If they show how JP died by the season finale, what happens in future seasons. Are they going to commit other bad acts? Or will they be constantly evading people questioning how JP died, even if the Claffins give up on trying to find out that JP may have been murdered?

It looked like Whitney tried to kiss Naomi but she turned it into just a hug. So much for the hot it couple du jour. Could be she just doesn’t want to do PDA on camera or she isn’t hot for him like they allege.

I think Leva would probably want to show her restaurants more. Same with Craig, it's free publicity and exposure. Bravo just doesn't want to give it away because they monetize product placements so they can't give placement on the show for free. In earlier seasons, JD loved having them film at his restaurants. That probably helped get some fans of the show to visit his places. Then he tried to push that Gentry Bourbon, hoping that TV exposure and social media would lead to some big acquisition, which is how money in booze seems to be made, a celebrity comes up with a brand and eventually sells to some spirits conglomerate.

The dog died from the poisoned liver. Paintball, guy lost his eye maybe, Bibi needs to get rid of the frozen pellets. I can't even remember the other attempts now. JP gets the kitten killed and makes Grace take the fall. And he totally was at fault for Bibi losing her eye. What's the deal with Eva and the closeted guy, he just wanted a buddy? Other thing they seem to be trying to depict are that these are all good people, good parents, good sisters, etc. So they were driven to homicidal lengths by this villain. Speaking of bad people, Matt and Thomas' father was a cheat who defrauded people for years. So now, JP probably wasn't insured and the Claffins can't pay.

They did a good job of showing why these fans are lifers. They showed supporters like the 97 year old man who became a supporter at age 6 or 7. Or they showed an actual kid, who was like 8? Became hooked after seeing his first match a couple of years ago. People bond over sports and have memories associated with specific matches and happenings around the team. I think the socioeconomic situation of the town adds to this. It's interesting that instead of turning to opiates like some US cities in the Rust Belt, the football club was their drug or at least kept the community together.

Was it Eric who told Harper that if she can lock down Bloom, she can go anywhere with him? Then she tried to screw over Rishi and Pierson and DVD overheard her? DVD also had told her that Bloom probably has Harpers at all these other firms. As the previous episode showed, Harper was driven to succeed, something which broke her brother, who blamed her along with their mother for making life miserable for him. She was oblivious, telling him she couldn't stand to see him live like this. Then in this episode, Gus' sister tells him to shape up, he's not going to work like a social worker, making only 17k Pounds, dealing with people like the guy who shit in the tupperware. Yasmin's co-workers give her a wholly inappropriate gift and her first day, Celeste seduces her. But somehow, Yasmin seems less than excited to find out that Celeste has an open marriage arrangement, so she didn't just seduce her married boss into committing infidelity.

No this is an acting job. A lot of BD cast don’t take it seriously, especially the BDDU cast. Some are veteran yachties and plan to keep working in yachting but others are hoping that appearing on the show will lead to other th8ngs.

Indian couple were set up by their parents for arranged marriage but they didn’t get married? Or did they? They had different names. He was Rangeet something and she was K-something Rangeet. She was ribbing him a lot. -
Did princesses have their prerogative despite how sexist this culture is? Raynera seems like the type that wouldn't GAF so given the modern audiences for the show, they would probably depict her getting it on with a man of her own choosing at some point, even before (or after) fulfilling her political obligations. She better, because she was being matched with little brother Egon and the only reason Viserys laughed it off is because the boy just turned 2.

I’m confused, Steven is Kyles invention and he told the guests aBout it and they asked for Steven. But Kyle didn’t think the guests would like Steven? So why did he mention it to them in the first place? Preference sheet is loaded up with stuff so more chances for crew to mess up. Natasha over provisioned but she claims it’s based on the Pref sheet. So maybe more producer shenanigans with the Pref sheet. Dave still hoping Tasha will be turned off by her bf again and he’ll be right there with a shoulder to cry on? Well she’s seems flighty and does seem like she’s souring on him. But to go there again with Dave? These two need to get away from each other ASAP.

Jackie is surprised when Jenny gives him his old FBI badge that she had fished out of Boston Harbor. But he uses that badge to portray himself as an FBI agent and to serve himself some cocaine. He still keeps running down the case, doing the legwork, gets an FBI agent to find out that all the young women Dryden goes after were part of this scholarship program that Dryden funded. Finally he takes the case to DeCourcy, says the easy thing would be to keep taking Dryden's money, so that he could provide for Jenny and pay for Bennie's education. He says he wants to take down Dryden, partly to get his FBI job back and partly because of what happened to Bennie and the fact that all the young woman victimized by Dryden were Bennie's age. DeCourcy says no initially because he doesn't want to get screwed over by Rohr again. But then he has some success convicting some crooked cops so it's going to be Jackie and De together again! Or maybe just the rest of the season. Caysen has his name cleared but his wife is still gone and his kids are slipping away. He gets propositioned by a widow but decides to hire the services of a prostitute instead. Siobhan still feeling some PTSD bolting the doors and windows. Even tries going shooting. Finally agrees to therapy. Meanwhile the construction company which she's suing for her client injured in the Big Dig site is digging up dirt on her, saying she was fired and now digging up an apparent old hit and run case in which she may have been involved. Jenny working on her own demons, either has to apologize to her father so he would drop his suit or has to tell her lawyer about the abuse she suffered from him. She isn't ready to do either.

I can't believe they had the cast actually cook stuff. We sure they didn't go to the supermarket deli and then threw that stuff in regular cookware? They all probably had Thanksgiving dinner with their own families. This dinner was for show. And they probably had someone off camera taking care of that turkey. It would have been funnier if the deep fried turkey wasn't pulled off correctly and they started throwing food at each other.

I missed that JP became the asshole after his sister died. His mother was saying he was killing kittens as a child? Was that suppose to be after his sister died? If he was doing it before then, he's some kind of a psychopath. Regarding the pussy picture, are they all using iPhones, this being an Apple TV + show? That means it's up on iCloud. Also, why was the quiz such a big deal? It featured workers at Eva and JP's company? But it's somehow related to the promotion that both are going after?

That's a tough commute for the sisters in Madrid. So they had to live in the northern part. These English-teaching jobs, they seem not to have long term prospects at least if you want to make some money. They got their degrees in something unrelated so maybe after a year or two, they go back to WV. -
Yeah the Fab Five sounds like an informal thing at least when this episode was filmed. They probably didn't discuss strategy or consider that Angela had this big alliance going. But they should have been suspicious when Leo got thrown in in the previous episode. There were 7 women left going into the first women's elimination. How many women were going to at least start the Final challenge, 4 or 5 at most? And this was the 8th or 9th Daily Challenge, so they probably could guess that this season was only going to have 10-12 episodes or so. So at most 2-3 women's eliminations before the Final. They should be evaluating each other, what kind of alliances they probably have with each other. For instance, everyone knew Angela and Tyson were in an alliance and there was a chance to throw Tyson in the men's elimination but somehow the script was flipped and Leo was sent it. That should have let the Fab Five know that the winners of the previous episode had made a deal with Tyson and Angela at least. They're all newbies so maybe they weren't gaming out the season.
