  1. It's not. It's an original story about a family that uses Alanis' music
  2. Saw "Come From Away" in Philly last week and freaking loved it. I was obviously familiar with the real life story but went into the show totally blind. I've already re-watched it on Apple TV. Just utterly lovely. I have upcoming tickets for "1776" but I'm wavering on whether I actually want to go. Reviews both here and in the press, have not been kind and I've heard it's a bit of slog. I'm debating swapping my ticket for something else. What would you do?
  3. "Ms. Gellar, what was going through your mind when you accepted this role?" "I hope they pay me in candy."
  4. I don't think I even knew how to tie my shoes at 5. I'd be curious to hear how the case study is presented in classes and I'm not sure what McDonald's motivation could be for including the 5 year old who appeared in the commercial instead of simply Burger King and its ad agency. 🙄 I was also struck by how she hates when people remind her just how long it has been since Buffy. I absolutely HATE all of these "30 years since the release of X" commemorations. I know I'm old - I don't need you to remind me of that, damn it!
  5. She did greet them. If memory serves correctly, she kissed/hugged Alan and Beverley and did a double hand grab with both Margot and Cate.
  6. I'll sit at the olds table with all of you. I don't even bother to watch the Grammys or any other music awards shows anymore because I've never heard of 85% of the performers/nominees. I have my artists that I like and support but unless I know that they're performing, I don't bother with the shows. I'm indifferent re: Beyonce as a solo artist but I loved me some Destiny's Child back in the day and I don't think I've ever heard a Harry Styles song in full. đŸ‘ĩ Fandom these days frightens me. Can you imagine if social media had been around during the days of New Edition vs. New Kids on the Block vs. Menudo??? Bloodshed. 😉
  7. UGH! Why does it have to be Andy Cohen??? NBC Universal couldn't find anyone else? đŸ˜Ŗ
  8. Ugh. I've been reading this whole thread and confusing JLo and JLaw and American Hustle and Hustlers and I was so confused. Derp. đŸ‘ĩ
  9. I really can't see them rescinding her nomination and don't think they should at all. If Will Smith can bitch slap Chris Rock and then win and keep his Oscar, Andrea's nomination should be allowed to stand. Also who knew Frances Fisher was a member of the Academy and an apparently influential one at that? 🤷‍♀ī¸
  10. This is all so ridiculous. The Oscars are a subjective contest - she didn't dope and then go on to win the Tour de France. As others have noted, the major studios and their strategists are pissed that they played the game the way they have always played it and something that did not follow that script broke through. I know Will Smith hosted several screenings of Emancipation for his close friends, many of whom are Academy voters. Setting aside the fact that he is persona non grata with the Academy and it didn't move the needle at all, should he be "reprimanded" too?
  11. THIS. He drew way too much attention to himself with his inability to STFU. When he introduced himself as a veteran, I was confident he would be able to blend in and observe the dynamics without drawing too much attention to himself. He did the exact opposite.
  12. One of the most egregious recent examples for me was Rooney Mara being nominated for Supporting Actress for Carol. Yes, Cate is the bigger star and the movie was CALLED Carol, but in my opinion, the movie was 100% Therese's (Mara's) story. And I've never looked at screen time or anything like that, but they were both so obviously co-leads, the category fraud was ridiculous. And I'm still salty that Mara lost to Alicia Vikander.
  13. When Riz Ahmed announced "My Year of Dicks" I nearly choked on my coffee.
  14. Very true BUT EEAAO is going to win at least one other acting award (Supporting Actor definitely and possibly Actress) so I'm hoping they spread the love. Angela FTW.
  15. This is why I've taken to watching the show on BBC iPlayer using a VPN - they cut too much from the American broadcast to make room for the commercials. 🙄 I loved this couch but I'm biased because Cate is my fantasy wife. Alan grates on my nerves after a time but he didn't really bother me this episode. I just loved that everyone was talking TO one another and really engaging with each other.
  16. They probably checked my IP address. "South Philly? Definitely a Melissa."
  17. Gotcha! Personally I'm glad they didn't find a reason to shoehorn Carrie into the situation. Given the fact that she nearly had a nervous breakdown when she and Tina broke up, no good would have come of that. BUT I'm also saying this as someone who has hated Carrie from the jump so I'm biased.
  18. Well I wouldn't call it contrived at all. Shane and Alice are B&T's best friends.
  19. THIS. I found so many of them to be total non-entities. When Alan announced that Amanda had left the game we looked at each other and said simultaneously, "Who's Amanda?" The reality folks know what the producers and editors want to see and for the most part, deliver it which naturally gets them more air time. I also think the producers assumed that viewers would want to see more of them than the "nromals." Which was a mistake on their part, IMO. With any cast this big, it's going to be hard to get a sense for people's personalities until the numbers really start dwindling but I think the British version managed this just fine without throwing has-beens into the mix.
  20. Thrilled with the result! I've always loved Cirie and was happy to see her finally come out victorious. I did feel badly for Andie because I believed they were genuinely hurt and genuinely needed that money. ☚ī¸ I'm happy that Quentin didn't win anything because the dude was so comically obtuse. For me it came down to being satisfied with Andie or Cirie winning the money, no one else. I know I thought that Christian would be the first traitor booted but now I'm sort of glad he wasn't because it gave him more time to believe his own hype. In addition to being supremely annoying, he was also just a comically bad actor. Every single reaction was dialed up to 11. He also reminded me of when I was a teen and would get caught lying to my mother because I COUDLN'T STOP TALKING. I found Kate hilarious. In real life, I would hate her but she provided some nice comic relief here. If they do move forward with a 2nd season, I hope they chuck the reality tv folks angle as I just think it was a distraction (I recognize the irony in this given that I was thrilled with Cirie's victory). I just think when people come into the game with preconceived notions of some of the contestants, it takes away some of the mystery. I'd like to see an "all normals" season.
