  1. While I'm totally sad to see Heidi and Tim go, I've started thinking of replacements (plus, I'm waiting for a program to load, and need something to pass the time). Andre Leon Talley would be fabulous (just because I want to see more of him whenever I can).
  2. I watched both episodes and really liked it. I totally have Sly and the Family Stone's song in my head, and will be playing it nonstop for a while. I watched from Canada and have a question about the commercials. During the (many) commercial breaks, all I saw were the same 5 ads for other BET shows. For those watching it in the US, did you have actual commercials? I got to the point that I could recite the BET ads verbatim.
  3. Mr. Hula-la, after watching Darius, stated that it’s not fair that he’s on the show, as he’s clearly miles above the other male contestants. I agree with him. Darius—you were too good for this show and you will be missed. And, as my user name implies, I understand Tahitian dance. They weren’t horrible, but they weren’t great. I guess I should be happy to see Tahitian on tv, but not in this way.
  4. Thanks for the info (and for saving me some tax dollars)!
  5. I’d gladly pay a dollar more in taxes for a commercial free GBBO!
  6. While I’m happy for my American friends, as a Canadian, I’m sad. I’m guessing that the CBC has the Canadian rights ( so it won’t be airing on Canadian Netflix), so it’s currently airing the new season. But, as it shows commercials, there is no technical bake shown. I was looking forward to seeing the whole show when it was shown on PBS.
  7. I'm not sure I should thank you @Rambler, or curse you. I've spent the past hour reading this reddit post, and keep reading bits of it out to Mr. Hula-la.
  8. So, Mr. Hula-la and I just watched the entire series. This is why my clothes don't fit. I totally agree with you that it should be a full series, and I'd much rather watch and hear the stories of these students and their band leader, than "coach" Brown (I put that in quotations, because I'm not really sure what he is. He seems like a coach in name only). The students of ICC I care about, their coach--not so much.
  9. I looove marching bands, so am going to see if it’s on Canadian Netflix. Thanks for the recommendation! One positive of such short episodes is that you wouldn’t feel too guilty binge watching the series in one go (because I have never done that, ever).
  10. I don’t know when this was taped, but the World of Dance World Championships (the “real” competition from which this show came) are this weekend. I saw a preview video on Instagram Stories and Eva Igo is one of the competitors (along with a bunch of others who were or are on the show). Then again, should could have been this season's Jabbawockeez.
  11. THank you @ElectricBoogaloo for the song name. I’m with everyone when I’m tired of the auditions. My birthday is next week, and I clearly remember watching SYTYCD on my birthday, a few years ago, happily watching the Alvin Ailey dancers perform on of my favourite pieces “The Hunt”. I miss those days of the show.
  12. Does anyone know the song that Travis used during his section?
  13. I saw a note whilst watching that you can view the technical bake on the CBC app. Not sure how I feel about that.
  14. I saw it on my DVD listing and almost deleted it, thinking it was an old series. Yay CBC—now I have 2 GBBO series to watch this summer!
  15. It was their travel information (route information?)--the yellow card that tells them where to go for the next leg of the trip.
  16. Maybe it's the teacher in me, but it was rather rude of Nigel to insult Kory's goal of dancing on Broadway. His actual technique was pretty good. He had great height in his jumps, good musicality, and most importantly, was fun to watch. At his age, he may not fulfill his dream of Broadway, but he could totally rock local theatre productions of Broadway musicals. There's no shame in that game, and nothing to be laughed at.
  17. I feel the same way. It's more of a gymnastics or acro routine than a dance. I talk about this show with my physio, and she looooves Eva Igo. I don't get the love, but I keep myself quiet, as said physio keeps my aging body able to dance, so she can believe whatever she wants!
  18. Don’t ask me her name, but I really liked the first girl who auditioned (red bra top), as well as the guy with a jazz background (wearing black).
  19. I’m excited to try it too! I have a students who I’ve been pleasantly harassing to get his mother’s recipes that I can use for class (knowing that family recipes are a set of “add some of this, now some of that”). It’s high time for some fine dining, Filipino style!
  20. I don't know your background, but it could be because it's racist https://gizmodo.com/why-cant-this-soap-dispenser-identify-dark-skin-1797931773
  21. I noticed a moment when Bell turned away from Conrad, Pravesh, and Nic and had the slightest smile on his face, like he decided right then and there how to make this opportunity work for him. I'm thinking that it was deliberate to ask her to destroy the files, so that when she did, he could make himself/the hospital out to be the heroes. Well played sir, well played.
  22. Just watched the episode on Sikhs. There is a large Sikh population where I live in Canada, but I still learned in this episode and quite enjoyed it.
  23. I also like how they acknowledge the differences between working in a northern vs. southern climate. I'm looking forward to seeing how both homes turn out (especially the woman who's home was inherited from her Grandmother).
  24. The last season of the American version was noted for the camaraderie amongst the vast majority of the chef-testants (save one who was just nasty). It made for enjoyable viewing, and I hope that this one will be just as good.
  25. Dale, the season one winner, is on Iron Chef Gauntlet, so Saskatoon is truly on the map!
