  1. I swear I thought Nana was played by Nichols. It didn't register that we never saw her.
  2. Maybe 94 in the US with Ronaldo and Baggio? But that was scoreless. Last time was high scoring, but Croatia was never in it. I really don't remember much before 1990 because I think before that it was on UHF(!) in the US. I think I saw the 86 final, but I only remember Maradona. He was so big, he was even a name in the US.
  3. Not bad consolation for the president of the country to come up to shake your hand. He's 23.
  4. I mean, announcers, the keeper can go the right way and still not get it if you blow it by him. It's not as much in your head if you don't let it.
  5. I don't really have any skin in this fight, but just as a soccer fan, these are clearly the two best teams leaving everything out there. I mean, there's two breakaway saves in stoppage time of extra time. Donovan - I don't smoke, but I need a cigarette. Watch, we're going to end up with the keepers shooting at this point.
  6. As much as I complain about penalties, these all were legitimate. Unbelievable.
  7. I don't know why the defender didn't plant himself on the goal line. He was fully in the net.
  8. Let's see if the next 30 minutes are as wild as this last ten.
  9. Messi has gone completely invisible. France has to stop throwing themselves on the floor in the box and play the game.
  10. I was being sardonic, but wow! I don't know if the touch pass was better than the guy just throwing Messi down with one hand.
  11. No, totally. As soon as I read it. But the ref, was questionable. Not so much the penalty, but anyone coming in contact with the official, gets set off. He didn't have control of the game in the second half.
  12. There's no deserve in sports. Or in life. I don't think it's Messi's fault that the narrative surrounds him, and it's a generally bad narrative that if ___ doesn't do ___ then their career is tarnished in some way. Especially in soccer. Higuaín doesn't miss an empty net, and this isn't ever a conversation.
  13. I actually use the increase in earthquakes in Oklahoma from fracking as a case study in class! Did they not know the state capital is Oklahoma City though? I was confused when they said Eliot hasn't spoken to his father because he already did. But then I realized that was when he was Jake Stone and a Librarian. Nice callback to the robot bodies too. They certainly picked an excellent guest star for Eliot's father. The ending monologue was a little corny, but correct - It doesn't matter who got the medal; the people in the camp know what happened. I don't know if it was deliberate, but it's the same theme for the frog peeing episode where the mark was bloviating about saving everyone on the bridge.
  14. That was Jane Curtin. It was a recurring segment where she was an investigative journalist where Dan Aykroyd played different sleazy businessmen.
  15. My dog loved the vuvuzela. I used to be able to do it.
  16. They showed flashbacks. They could always do a prequel.
  17. We're not lacking storylines. Messi's last shot, the first repeat in 60 years. It's Modric's last game, and Morocco could make even more history.
  18. It seems like bottling is akin to what we call choking over here.
